XT1033 (Australian Dual Sim 8GB) upgrade to KitKat? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys, bought my phone in Australia at retail. It's running 4.3 JB. I've already unlocked the bootloader and installed a recovery. Now I want to run KitKat. I checked and there's no OTA, it says I'm already up to date. I don't care about the dual sim at all as I only have one sim (it's actually quite annoying having two icons in the statusbar).
Can I just go and install any Moto G KitKat ROM onto the phone and it will work? Is it better to have the official OTA so that it updates the radios before installing a custom KitKat ROM? Do the radios matter? Will I brick my XT1033 if I install a ROM for XT1031, XT1032 etc. ?
Just asking before I kill the phone.
Thanks guys

Single SIM ROMs are not compatible with dual chip XT1033.
From what I have read there is only 2 options:
1. unlock the phone and load en.GB 4.3 ROM and wait for the 4.4 kitkat update on it
2. CM11 by dhacker29 - Read first post about the details about how to flash to XT1033 where you need to flash a modem as well. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2608377
Whatever you do, make sure you do a backup of the stock ROM as I don't see Australian ROM in the stock images thread yet. So if you need to go back you can safely restore. To Restore from CM11 you need to flash the old modem as well that is in the same thread.

There are no cases of bricking so far that I am aware of. Also you could try fastboot flashing* the en.GB 4.4.2 firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49861244&postcount=101
*mfastboot may be required.
EDIT: You should be aware that flashing the GB firmware also includes the GB Modem/Radio firmware. If you notice data/wifi/coverage issues after flashing, this may be the reason. There is currently on AU firmware image you can restore with.
Excluding the following commands should allow you to retain the AU Modem/Radio firmware:
flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
erase modemst1
erase modemst2
flash fsg fsg.mbn

I downloaded and uncompressed android 4.3 firmware - Blur_Version.14.71.8.falcon_umts.Retail.en.GB from http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=14
then ran the "flash-all.bat" script. Rebooted and then did the OTA update. A single (primary) sim works no issues, and my model number now says XT1032 instead of XT1033.
I'm sure you'd get the same result by just flashing straight Android 4.4.2 for Great Britain - Blur_Version.174.44.9.falcon_umts.Retail.en.GB
I only need one sim anyway, so it works well for me. then I make lots of modifications with Xposed.

I am really curious so I'll try this. Downloading "Blur_Version.174.44.9.falcon_umts.Retail.en.GB" and will report back, worst case I just run the stock flash all again (Blur_Version.14.85.4.falcon_umtsds.AsiaRetail.en.03) now that I know there's no risk

I used this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219
Changed the filenames for these commands to reflect the files in the folder:
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk1
to
mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
It is rebooting now.
Boot animations works [OK]
"Preparing Device - Please Wait..." [OK]
Choose Language (KK style!) [OK]
So far I only have one SIM card working with only one set of icons at the top and it has successfully connected to Vodafone AU (YES!)
Wifi network detected [OK]
OK everything is running! WiFi is working, phone is now running 4.4.2 KitKat! Just called myself and it worked!
THANKS GUYS
I will follow up later on. First thing I'll try is recovery, root, xposed framework and see if I can change the battery icon to show percentage (this wasn't possible on the JB ROM but I suspected because of the dual sim and likely a different SystemUI.apk

I had trouble rooting but then just used this flashable zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2585755 and it got there.
I installed Xposed and everything worked as expected, using gravity box I changed the battery to one with a percentage and reduced the navigation bars to 70% (gives more screen real estate). Using the Google Experience Launcher, Google Keyboard and enabling ART has made this device a bit closer to my Nexus 4 which the screen broke on, so I'm very happy with this device.
Now I just need to work out how to get rid of the carrier name in the status bar (VODAFONE AU takes up a lot of room :silly
EDIT: Thanks Moto X community http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.penree.android.xposed.hidecarriermotox now it's gone

I think you should be waiting for general thread for moto G dual sim, and also they will create another rom for it.
I use Q10 now, bored with android :victory:

I flashed Google Play edition 4.4.2 ROM on my XT1033 + added Xposed GravityMod. Gives me 90% of what Cyanogenmod does so I am pretty happy.

it works for me, changing XT1033 to single sim and kitkat.
1) download the file in the link
2) run the program and flash image with outside usa
3) flash cwm recovery
4) push superSU
5) install xposed framework with framework installer.

Then I rebooted into the CWM recovery and used adb sideload to load to root it - follow this post exactly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49996027&postcount=19
Once rooted installed Xposed and customise

How do you find the Play Edition compared to the Motorola version of KitKat? Pretty much the same thing just without the Motorola apps, settings, sounds and wallpaper?
I'm really happy with the Motorola software but wouldn't mind putting the Play edition on if it's much better

Its not that much different.
The main issues i have with moto edition is that there is no internet calling in dialer (This is for VOIP accounts - Moto removed it from the Moto G for some reason and most 3rd party apps suck compared to native VOIP calling)
Minor issues (Nothing that can't be fixed with root)
- hidious career label in status bar (in en.GB 4.2.2)
- ugly dual SIM 2 signal bars wasting space on the status bar + 3G/H+ icon
- No useless Motorola apps that I don't need
Whats better in Moto ROM
- Camera App (GPE has no HDR)
- FM Radio (not in GPE)
- Faster file system (but this is barely noticable, GPE feels the same speed for me)

Is it ok to update to kitkat from 4.3? Ive only just tried it and says update available

Anyone Captured the Verizon G 4.4.4 update?

Verizon announced yesterday they have released the OTA update for 4.4.4 for the Verizon Moto G, 210.12.41.falcon_cdma.Verizon.en.US. I was wondering if anyone has captured the update yet as mine still says Software is up to date. Even tried the Framework Trick with no luck.

No luck here...there is post over on Android Forums that Verizon users are getting the 4.4.4 OTA update but nobody has posted the captured zip file yet.
Captured Verizon CDMA Moto G 4.4.4 Update Zip
Here's a link to download the new Verizon Moto G 4.4.4 CDMA version of Blur_Version.173.44.20.falcon_cdma.Verizon.en.US.zip

I have not installed it yet as I'm running a Boost Mobile Moto G flashed to Verizon Wireless running on Page Plus that's rooted. I'm waiting to see if someone has completed the update without problems before I try.
If someone attempts the update for a Page Plus flashed Moto G let me know how it goes.

That 173.44.20.falcon_cdma.Verizon.en.US is the 4.4.2 Kit Kat currently installed on the G's. I am looking for the newer one. 210.12.41.falcon_cdma.Verizon.en.US which is the 4.4.4 update.

It was pulled from the /cache folder. If you put in /storage/sdcard0 you may also need to rename to update.zip

Yes please do. My wife's phone is wanting to update since Sunday night.
Seems to work just fine on Page Plus after the update, root works, and nothing has caught on fire yet. Edit: Tested data and calling, both seem to work fine.
Steps to update (this assumes your bootloader is already unlocked and you have cwm recovery installed):
Save the update zip and the cwm flashable supersu zip to your phone.
Boot into cwm recovery and do a backup (assuming you have space on /media/data for a backup.)
Reboot to bootloader.
Restore *just* your system partition to stock with fastboot (using: CFC-fastboot_falcon_verizon_user_4.4.2_KXB20.9-1.10-1.20_22_release-keys.xml.zip)
Boot into cwm again, apply the update zip, then immediately apply the supersu zip.
Boot up normally and let it do its update stuff, then go into titanium backup and kill off any of the verizon bloatware that you don't want.
If you want to get rid of the ugly "WARNING BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED IT WILL KILL YOUR FAMILY" boot logo, flash the logo.bin (fastboot flash logo logo.bin) in the attached zip file. It is just a simple hex edit of the logo address in the file header. I've included the original as logo.bin.bak so you can verify it against the original, and compare the two files if you want to see how it's done.

I think you can select "apply update from sdcard" in the recovery mode. No?
EDIT: You flashed to PagePlus. I missed that part. Sorry about that.
I was on a AOSP based rom.
So I flashed back to stock via CFC-fastboot_falcon_verizon_user_4.4.2_KXB20.9-1.10-1.20_22_release-keys.xml.
Booted up once to make sure the the flash went well.
Flashed CWM via bootloader. Tried TWRP first, did not work with the update.zip.
Renamed the zip above to update.zip and flashed via cwm. Worked fine. (yes the zip is 4.4.4)
Before rebooting, went ahead and flashed supersu.zip.
Then rebooted back to bootloader and flashed my preferred recovery, TWRP.
All seems well. This is on PagePlus.
Bout time we get 4.4.4. I'm also using Boost Moto G to Verizon/Page Plus. I will update when I have free time. Thanks for the info, guys.

It sounds like the 4.4.4 update is working fine...the only issue is that there doesn't seem to be a full stock 4.4.4 flash available (like we have for 4.4.2), and from what I can tell from posts (haven't tried this myself), you cannot reflash the full stock 4.4.2 after the 4.4.4 update since the bootloader and/or partitions have changed. There may be some workarounds, but those seem to be for other models or geographies as best I can tell. Once we have the full 4.4.4 flash, then at least you can always revert to that, but it doesn't appear to be released yet.
I've been keeping an eye out for the update OTA. I guess I'd rather just go down that path officially since my phones not rooted and had stock locked bootloader. Just wish it would hurry up and be pushed to my device.

Thanks for the instruction. Questions:
(1) My flashed page plus moto-g is on rooted stock rom (with unlocked bootloader of course). Do I still need to restore the system partition back to stock?
(2) What is "CFC-fastboot"? Do you mean
fastboot falcon_verizon_user_4.4.2_KXB20.9-1.10-1.20_22_release-keys.xml.zip
(i.e. no underscore between fastboot and falcon) ?
Thanks!
it's available on OTA now yay

[Q] [help] Trying to flash a custom ROM to moto g, getting "bootloader not supported"

[Q] [help] Trying to flash a custom ROM to moto g, getting "bootloader not supported"
My moto g is XT1031, the Boost Mobile version.
I've tried to flash CM, BlissPop ROM, flexOS, and others. I always get "Bootleader not supported. Operation Aborted".
I want to flash a custom ROM because Boost Mobile never pushed out lollipop, and I want to try it out. This is not my primary phone, and is only used on Wi-Fi.
My Moto G is Rooted (I have the SuperSU app) and the bootloader is unlocked (Get the warning message on boot).
I'm flashing via Clockwork mod revocery 6.0.4.7
Any help is strongly appreciated.
Thanks.
By the way, this is the exact message:
This package supports bootloader(s): 0x4118, 0x4119, 0x411A; this device has bootloader 0x4113.
(Status 7)
Operation Aborted.
I was able to flash Cyanogenmod 11 Snapshot M6 Falcon, but not sure what to do after that. It seems that the bootloader is not compatible with Lollipop?

You have two options
1- Either update your bootloader to lollipop one which is 41.19 for cdma variants
2-Edit the updater script and metadata file of rom to allow you to flash the rom
First method is risky but better because you dont have to edit the updater scrip of every rom you wanna flash
sent from falcon
PRESS THANKS IF HELPED?????

I have the links to bootloader for gsm variants but not CDMA
I am asking someone experienced that is @matmutant, so please wait for a day
Till then I will tell you how to edit the updater script and metadata (credits to @wskelly )
Extract the zip and go to
META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script
META-INF/com/android/metadata
Alter the files as shown in the screenshots.
You will see the flickering/jumping of the screen on the first boot, but this will go away after you turn the screen off and then on once.
Screenshots are here

I found the download for bootloader 41.19 CDMA. Found here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934538145
I then flashed it via clockwork mod and then was able to flash BlissPop 5.1.1. All is working fine now, except the screen in clockwork mod has a flashing line. No big deal though, this doesn't impact the actual OS.
Thanks again for your help.

You have flickering screen in CWM recovery because it is based on kitkat bootloader
To remove
Just flash the latest TWRP by @h2o64 from xda ( not from official site )
Or try this unofficial Philz

update to cm 12 or 13, sim / wlan problem

Hello,
long time ago I used a cyanogen mod on an old samsung which still works fine as mp3 player.
Now I have a motorola moto g 4g xt1039. It is unlocked and on android 4.4.4
All installations are done with linux and fastboot
I installed recoverytwrp2-8-3.img and do a backup and it works
I installed cm-13.0-20151226-NIGHTLY-peregrine.zip - no success because of an old bootloader, so I searched for another one and found motoboot_411A_xt1039.img and installed it.
Installation of cm13 works but I have no wlan and no sim detected.
I installed cm-12.1-20151103-NIGHTLY-peregrine.zip and have wlan but no sim
Next: cm-11-20150105-NIGHTLY-peregrine.zip -> wlan and sim detected
Try to go from cm11 to cm 12 -> same effect as before, no sim. I tried different "wipe stages" from nothing to nearly full.
Try to use the update offer in cm11 to cm13 -> same effect.
Found a hint to delete telephony.db -> install cm13 -> no sim and some more errors.
Now I need a hint - I have no idea what to do - any help would be very nice.
I'm not sure, if it is important: after changing the bootloader I saw sometimes a flickering of the screen,
especially when starting the first time. With a newer twrp recoverytwrp2-8-7encryption.img I don't have this
problem, but cm13 stucks in showing the animated cyanogenmod logo.
Thanks

Hi, thanks for your answer,
I have described all I have done, so no update to LP radio (LP == Lollipop?), I did not know, that I need a special one, but me experience seems to say this. Where to get the file? - Just take XT1039_Retail_Germany_5.1_Radio.zip
from http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/4g-development/rom-stock-motorola-4g-lollipop-rom-t3142816?
I will try, but tomorrow

Hello,
thank you, your hint was the right one. After flashing the radio part it works directly.
I tried to install 5.1 stock, then flashing the radio part:
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
After that 5.1 has wlan and sim support.
I tried cm13 from today, it works.
Thank you very much.

XT1550 **Soft Bricked** Can't any custom recovery / ROM / Stock ROM

Okay so here's the info to the best of my knowledge,
Phone Model : Moto G 3rd Gen (XT1550, dual sim, 2gb RAM, 16gb ROM, India)
Bootloader Status : Unlocked
Root Status : Rooted
Recovery : Stock
ROM : Stock ROM 5.1.1
I've been running the stock Recovery & ROM with high hopes of getting an official OTA Marshamallow update.
To truly customize the device to my liking I flashed the xposed framework (the arm version) , it worked fine and all the modules I installed worked perfectly.
I also had Device Control, Xposed Gels, and some other apps to bring my Stock ROM experience close to that of Cyanogen MOD.
When the OTA Marshmallow update started rolling in , I was unable to install the update even after successfully downloading the file numerous times. But i was so comfortable with my device and all the customization I had on my device that I decided to keep using my customized Stock ROM.
4 months later (now) the lack of a gyro in this device and my eagerness to get into VR headsets has left me with no choice but to sell it and get another phone. So i needed it in a sale worthy condition, without the customization and with the Marshmallow update installed.
I uninstalled the xposed framework and all the modules but was still unable to install the OTA update.
So i figured i'd install CyanogenMOD with TWRP custom recovery.
I have done this for quiet a lot of my friends and am fairly used to the steps involved. I use the " minimalADB fastboot " kit and my device on fastboot to flash recovery. For some reason i was not able to flash the lastest TWRP image (twrp-osprey-3.0.0-r2.img ) for the device nor was i able to boot from it :crying:. The fastboot command prompt on my PC would show success but the devices would not restart into the custom recovery like it is supposed to, but the device would stay at the fastboot mode and kept restarting everytime i selected the recovery mode option.
I had an older image (twrp-osprey-2.8.7-r3.img ) which i couldn't flash either but i was able to boot into TWRP with this image. From here i tried installing the latest CM12.1 nightly available (cm-12.1-20160227-NIGHTLY-osprey.zip) as soon as i swiped the device would just reboot, i tried this numerous times and with other nightly builds as well.
In haste and frustration i wiped the cache/dalvik , internal storage and system through TWRP , thinking that changes made in the quest of customizing my device were causing this hindrance. I had no OS now. I went over trying to flash TWRP and CM12.1 many times again with the same issues.
I came about a thread on How to " Fastboot Flash Moto G (3rd Gen) Factory Firmware Images " (http://forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/general/guide-fastboot-flashing-factory-t3187750) & used this firmware image " Retail Asia | India (2GB) - XT1550_OSPREY_RETASIA_DS_2GB_6.0_MPI24.65-25_cid7 ". Still no progress.
The bootloader unlocked warning has come back (i flashed a stock MOTO logo there earlier) which keeps flashing on my screen again and again , no booting into OS or anything else. Not even an error. As if there is no OS installed.
I have gone about the procedure in the above thread a couple of times, with no success and the same problem.
Is there any reason why i'm unable to flash a custom recovery or ROM ??? What am i missing???
Please help i'm stuck, pulling my hair out with no phone and completely frustrated.
Thanks in advance.
Did you check your build no for stock ROM?

Nope. Too late for that now.
If you're asking in regard to the stock firmware I tried to flash, it didnt depend on the build number. Just the model number and the RAM.

okay i am not a developer nor a noop but trying to help you
try to flash stock rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/general/index-moto-g-factory-firmware-images-t3169639 but dont mistake this time double check your model with build number using carefuly the steps from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/general/index-moto-g-factory-firmware-images-t3169639
You will not brick the phone if you use the latest firmware and do a factory reset before flashing.
Good luck.
but do at your own risk i am not responsible for anything

the link provided is the exact same link from where I flashed a stock rom before.
build number for stock rom??? am i missing something???
all i see is the model variant (xt1550 is my phone)
RAM specification (mine is 2gb)
and the region (mine is retails asia | india )
so i went with the following firmware
Retail Asia | India (2GB) - XT1550_OSPREY_RETASIA_DS_2GB_6.0_MPI24.65-25_cid7
where does the build number come into the equation???
Please lemme know if im doing something wrong. Thanks for the replies.
So I've successfully flashed twrp-osprey-2.8.7-r3.img to my device and I've been able to boot into twrp. The touchscreen doesn't seem to respond though. It asks to swipe to begin and I'm stuck again.
I had the screen replaced a couple of days ago.
Could it be a faulty screen or a software issue?
P.S. I have not been able to flash any version of twrp after the above mentioned version (v 3.0.0 is the latest stable version) but the ones prior are flashable.
Hey, contact me via PM and il do my best to help you in this.

Is not big issue
Is it still possible to boot back into the OS? If it is, check if you have OEM unlocking enabled, since you're on stock ROM, it might be gotten unchecked after unlocking your bootloader because that's what happened with me. If you do t wether or not that was checked, you're at a dead end and there's nothing you can do. You can try paying someone to fix it, i.e., Motorola.

[UNBRICK][INDIAN RETAIL 1572] [6.0] [ROOT] How to perfect unbrick Indian Moto X Style

Latest Android 6.0 Build No. MPSH24.49.18-4 for Moto X Style
Scenario:
While experimenting various stock roms for my Indian Version Moto X Style 1572, I flashed 1575 on my phone. Network did not work. But without trying to fix all the issues , I stepped back and flashed back to Indian Retail Version of Stock Rom XT1572_CLARK_RETASIA_DS_6.0_MPH24.49-18_cid7_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip from this page. Everything worked but my Bluetooth stopped working. Then tried almost all custom roms and even cyanogen but BT never worked.
So now I was left for few days with BlueTooth issues in phone. Then after taking hints from various threads I managed to unbrick my phone to get latest stock build and May 2016 Android Secutity Patch Level
In short this guide unbricks Indian Moto X Style perfectly to resolve BlueTooth issues / IMEI Loss / other network related issues by flashing latest stock to Android 6.0
Advantages:
1) An important thing to remember, that above Indian stock rom, you will get Android Security Patch Level dated 1-February-2016. But I with files linked by me in this guide (Brazil Rom) so you will get Android Security Patch dated 1-May-2016 with more security
2) The rom is 3 months latest than Indian Stock and build is MPSH24.49.18-4.
3) Initial free space of usable internal memory is upto 75% out of 10GB, which is much higher than Indian Stock which gives only 50% usable space.
Resolution:
Taking idea from this EU (European) Single Sim version I decided to try BRAZIL's latest Dual Sim stock rom and then flash modem+baseband, and VOILA!! Everything Worked perfectly! No network and bluetooth issue anymore.
UNBRICKING STEPS:
So I thought to put these steps here following easy steps.
1) Download BRAZIL's latest official Dual Sim MM 6.0 firmware - MPHS 24.49-18-4 - RETLA-DS-Brazil (May) from here. Extract all files from rar file into new folder on desktop of pc.
2) Also Download Indian Baseband or Modem file called fsg.mbn (DOWNLOAD and extract "fsg.mbn" file in above new folder on your desktop by replacing over brazillian version of fsg.mbn
3) Start phone in Bootloader Mode (power off phone. Then press VolumeDown Key and Power Key both together to start phone in bootloader mode)
and then connect phone to pc with usb cable.
4) Now open command prompt windows on your pc and from the new folder, execute batch file named "Instalador.bat" at command prompt. Wait until all commands are executed which flashes all partition image files one by one. Press any key when prompted on screen to go ahead and wait until it finishes. When done phone will automatically restart. Now you can disconnect USB cable from phone.
Phone will start normally but WITH FULL NETWORK, Wifi and BLUETOOTH all working just fine.
5) Optional (rooting): First enable debugging mode in Settings >> Developer Mode. Restart phone in bootloader mode and connect to pc and from windows command prompt execute following commands to flash latest TWRP recovery file. (DOWNLOAD TWRP).
mfastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-0-clark.img
Click to collapse
Now start phone in TWRP RECOVERY mode and flash SuperSU flashable zip (DOWNLOAD)
You are done! Network will start showing properly and strongly in both sims Bluetooth also works fine as it should work.
===================================
*Note: 5th step is optional if you do not want to ROOT your phone.
THANKS TO
1) Luiz Augusto Cisneiros Christofoletti from facebook for exact Brazil Stock Link and European unbrick thread.

No! You will not get OTA automatically but you can still flash new one manually over this rom. No need to worry when everything is possible with xda
In any case if you are rooting phone with last step then you will not get ota.
Can u post the process to flash the 6.0.1 build for the Moto X Style Indian Version. It is much more fast and stable than 6.0. It has already been provided for Moto X Pure so would I be able to flash it by changing modem ,if yes then please show the process, becasue no ROM has the stability which stock has and I didnt take the backup the day I rooted the phone.
