[Q] Moto G (XT1031) Boost Mobile [HELP] - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently reverted my Moto G back to stock firmware since none of the available ROMs were any good in my opinion. However, now that I've finally settled into my stock firmware and have decided to let Motorola be my update provider rather than spend all day trying out new ROMs, I have run into a little problem...
As of right now I am running a Moto G XT1031 on the Boost Mobile network with the following specs:
HW Version: P3C
Android Version: 4.3
Baseband Version: MSM8626BP_1032.3102.56.00R
Kernal Version: 3.4.0-g741c020-00001-gaf940d1
System Version: 14.14.9.falcon_cdma.Boost.en.US
Build Number: 14.10.0Q3.X-84-9
Well the issue now is that I have received an update on my phone from Motorola labeled as version: 173.44.18.en.US or in other words KitKat. I'd really like to update to this, but each time I click download now, it goes ahead and downloads the ~189.0MB file, and then asks me if I would like to install now, obviously yes, and powers off, goes into recovery and starts installing the update. BUT IT ALWAYS STOPS HALF WAY AND DISPLAYS ERROR AND THEN REBOOTS THE SYSTEM BACK TO NORMAL.
What could be the problem? My phone is currently rooted and has its bootloader unlocked. Do I need to be unrooted for the update to take place successfully?
Also, I was running TWRP 2.6.3.1, then CWM 6.0.4.6, and currently stock recovery but neither one gives me any better result.
Any help in greatly appreciated.
Best Regards,
David B.

yep, you can't be rooted...bootloader unlock is ok. It sees a file is not correct and it will error out during update.
Cheers.

Great! Thanks for the info.
I can always root it again afterwards, right?

Actually the update still won't take place. I just noticed, using CWM, that the error is being caused because "the update is for cdma" models only and my phone is "xt1031" I have a feeling that this might just be an issue with boost mobile having a crappy network, and this is just a mistake.
I thought it was too good to be true that Boost Mobile had released a KitKat version for the Moto G so fast

they did roll it out fast...
go back to non-rooted stock and then apply update.
(that's what I did and it worked.
btw, I activated the phone w/ Ring+ and still had the update pushed!)

But wait ! I have a boost Mobile version and I can find a way to root. Any help?

Wait, You have a CDMA model..how did you gain root? I thought only the GSM variants were able to have their bootloaders unlock officially and haven't seen anyone take a crack at the CDMA versions.

Verizon is not allowing unlocks. Boost is.

How did u do it. It will be helpful for many, please explain
Thanks

Yes please explain. I have the XT1031(Boost Moto G) and when I go to the unlock page it still tells me my device isn't eligible for unlock.

I have the boost Moto G, and simply following the instructions for all the other Moto G's gave me an unlock, the moto site didn't complain in the least

Need help
I'm stuck and don't know what else to do. Is my phone paper weight now? It also won't charge/keep charge. Both my fiancé and I tried looking everywhere to fix it but it won't work. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it... I miss my phone, had to get a crappy cheap phone.

How did you end up doing it. I'm trying to unlock a boost mobile phone and I can't. Another question. Are you able to use tether or hotspot? Please your input will help me a lot. Thank you

What problems are you having with unlocking your device?
I've unlocked 3 Boost Moto G's - so I know it's possible. Check this out > https://forums.motorola.com/posts/35e4d3be5c
As far as Mobile Hotspot, yes, it's possible with a few edits.

flashing stock firmware and ROM

Hello Everyone,
I am a new Android User, switched from Blackberry (had to use it for work for many reasons, employer requirement) . i have searched the forum for possible existing answer, could not find any.
i have just bought G2 At&t (D800) version from a previous owner, and it is unlocked by the previous owner. i have already rooted my device with custom recovery, it is Stock ROM 4.2.2 and software version 10o
my main two questions,
Q1 : if i flashed and upgraded to 4.4.2 using either D80220a - KOT49I or recovery friendly D80020c method, will that lock my unlocked phone? (i am using it on tmobile)
Q2 : is there is a significant difference between using D8022a and D80010d boot loader mentioned in kk upgrades candidates.
p.s. Since i am a new android user, but with enough backgrounds to be a developer. i will be starting to work on porting M8 sense 6 and contribute To the LG G2 Community. finally have jumped into the bandwagon hahaha. took me a long time lol ..
cheers
Right now there are many unforseen problems with updating g2 so stay away as long as you can

I don't mind taking risks, my only main concern, will upgrading to stock based kitkat ROM and firmware lock my GSM again and be usable with AT&T ONLY. that is my main concern in the first question.
i know for a fact, that firmware originally is installed by the service provider and is separate from the locking mechanism. Most phones can be unbranded by reflashing a different firmware version. however, i am seeking reassurance from experts to confirm such knowledge
thank you

If you are gonna flash kk I suggest you first downgrade to 10d and use Gary's method or upgrade via tot and then root/install custom recovery but I cannot assure that it will remained unlock as I have not encountered many people who unlock and flash custom roms

I see, i guess i will take the risk and re-update here. but will it matter a lot in term of FUNCTIONALITY. using international (AndroidUser00110001- power user edition) vs garyd9 method, excluding the removal of bloatware.

Well using androiduser's Rom is nice because of less bloat plus no ciq but I myself would not flash a Rom that changes the model number from d800 to d802 just because if it soft bricks it will be harder to restore via flash tool, which is why I opted and am a current user of Gary's Rom but I debloated it

Cm12 for RAZR HD?

Hello! I have been running CM12 (lollipop 5.0.1) on my XT926 for months now, only updated it once from the original version posted. I decided to update it again because a few things have become wonky; however, it seems the thread no longer exists. AM I GOING CRAZY?!?! Did it ever exist? Did it have to get taken down? Can someone please fill me in? I have absolutely been ENTHRALLED with this ROM and do not want to put something else on here if an updated version of CM12 is floating around here somewhere. I saw Validus is on here, which will serve as my next ROM if this has ceased to exist. Any info is much appreciated!
Thanks!

[Q] downgrade 4.4.2 and install CM12.1

I just want to say thank you in advance for any help that is given, I use these threads a lot and this is the first time I've had to post a thread because I couldn't find an answer already.
Anyway, I have a Samsung S3 SCH-I535 with Verizon running the latest bootloader and Android 4.4.2. I want to install the latest Cyanogenmod and from what I've found online. The only way to do this is to downgrade sense the bootloader is locked. I've downlaoded all the files I need but odin gives me errors because the software is not authorized. I've tried safestrap and have succussfully installed the superliterom ver. 3 but ASOP do not work with safestrap so my only option is to downgrade the bootloader and manually install the latest CM12.1. Please someone help me with this. I've exhausted all my resources and don't know where to go next.

If there is any way around the q-fuse, I haven't heard of it.
442 is stuck with locked bootloader ROMs, so far as I know.
There are a couple companies that offer downgrades and unlocked bootloaders, Mobile Tech Reviews being one of them, and the other being FWIW (I think).
I've heard good things about both, but have never tried them out.

[Q] Request Lollipop 5.1.x original from AT&T

Hi, I bought last month a LG G3 D850 from AT&T, I'm from Argentina.
I must say that I'm very disappointed about this phone by the way, the extraction of the FM chip is really anoying.
But I have it, and for a year maybe I must use it.
The problem is that AT&T only update Android if you have a SIM Card from AT&T, and in Argentina AT&T doesn't exist.
I rooted the phone and try Cyanogem (the graphics are really poor and the performance is poorer) and Cloudy G3 (that has A LOT of bugs and problems with the system).
So I ask you, if you can help me, the official AT&T Room of Lollipop. I prefer a lot of AT&T programs (that can be uninstalled) that have a rom that crash every 5 minutes.
I apreciate your help a lot.

You can follow my LG G3 back to stock guide and use the tot method. But there's no lollipop. You'd be stuck with kitkat, as OTA doesn't work. There's no official D850 lollipop tot and probably never will be. You'd have to flash KitKat. And hope OTA might some how work or try manually downloading the OTA after rooting the fresh install of kitkat.

That's a shame.
But anyway, it's secure to come back to kitkat? Or there's a chance of broke the phone without a chance of recoverying it?
Can you put the link of the guide?
Thank you!

There will always be a way. . Just like ever since it first came out. It's just very doubtful that a stock lollipop will come out.
It's not easy to link when mobile but here you go. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53452990

Bought a used d850, got a few questions

Hi. Bought a used d850, got a few questions.
I'm running lollipop 5.0.1. Is there any way to upgrade to marshmellow without an at&t sim? If no, what's the best way to get a sim if I'm located in canada?
Secondly, how do I go about rooting this thing? How stable is the most stable marshmellow rom that exists for the phone?
Cheers.

CyanogenMod is your best bet for stability now and no you don't need a sim card. Just Google rooting 5.0.1 and once rooted your good to flash CyanogenMod 6.0, you HAVE TO FLASH 6.0 GAAPS with it as well. Google all this and you'll do well, good luck!

Got a bunch of outdated results when I googled "rooting d850 5.0.1", any chance you can link me to an up to date guide?
Also, how stable is the latest cyanogenmod 6.0 when compared to stock android 5.0.1 that I'm running right now? How stable is cyanogenmod compared to lg based roms? What's the most stable lg based rom?
Also, some other questions. Is the d850 missing any features that the other lg g3 variants have? How do I go about making those features work?
Well I'm on an lgg3 850 running CyanogenMod 6.0 it's stable. If you like stock rom then stay with stock. Not sure if you could OTA without a sim card though.

Yes, just won't have the LG phone or any of the LG apps, CyanogenMod has plenty though, YouTube CyanogenMod. No there's no root for MM you'd have to flash back to Lollipop gain root then flash CyanogenMod after you root Lollipop. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3249803
Not gonna hold your hand through the process dude, do your research like everyone else does...

Sry if im taking longer to understand this than usual, its my first time.
So if I want LG's Marshmellow, I have to get my hands on an at&t sim and that way I'll never have root access. The other way is to downgrade to kitkat, get root access, then get android 6.0 cyanogenmod/fulmics. Is that a correct understanding?
What features of lg get disabled with cyanogenmod/fulmics? Does the camera work fine? Does the battery life last as long as stock?
Also, another question i couldnt find an answer to - does my d850 have qi wireless charging? Can it get qi wireless charging?
Cheers.
