Google Experience Launcher (GEL) - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to fix it?
Whilst being on stock ROM, I've had 4x5 drawer which was perfect. Navigation bar was at 48dp (default), font size was at 90%, and I still had 4x5 drawer. After switching to DroidKang v18, this has changed. Going down to 90% has caused the drawer to change to... 4x6, and I hate it. Tried at all navbar sizes, going from 0dp to 48dp, and it was still the same. Going to font size around 100-110% and 40dp navbar, has brought back 4x5 drawer, and then changing back the font size to 90-95% still retained the 4x5 drawer. But once you reboot, it's gone again, and back to 4x6 drawer.
Can anything be done about it? It's really getting annoying and no way to change it back. I thought it could be GApps, so I've tried PA and BaNkS, but still the same. Tried franco and Linaro kernel (Linaro is default), and no difference. I've fixed permissions a few times, cleared cache + dalvik, and still persists. I've also tried changing dpi from 480 to 445, but this has only further expanded the app drawer to 6x7, I think.
Has anyone got the same issue? Could it be latest version of GEL which has caused it (I think it's integrated into Google Search now)? Any help would be appreciated! I just want 4x5 drawer with 40-48dp navbar and 90% font size. It worked perfectly on stock ROM, around 2 weeks ago, no matter what size it was, the app drawer was always the same. 90% font + 40dp navbar gave me 4x5 app drawer at times, but reboot made it switch to 4x6 instead. So yeah. :|
Thanks in advance!
Got sick of GEL, switched to Nova Launcher Prime and I'm happy. Don't worry about this.

[Q] SlimKat 4.4 Build 4 DPI and Icon Row issues

So I recently installed SlimKat on my Nexus 5 and I didn't like the DPI. So I changed that back to the stock DPI using texdroider_dpi. Now the icon rows have room for icons and it looks crammed because the DPI is higher. Is there a way to change the icon rows in SlimKat? I looked trough the settings and didn't find much.

You are talking about Google Now Launcher right? Have a look at this xposed module.
You can also try force stopping Google Search (the launcher) and going back to the homescreen. It always works for me. The only downside is you'll have to do it on every boot.
SlimKat uses Nova Launcher as their default launcher. Go into your app drawer and choose:
Nova settings>Desktop>Desktop Grid to change the rows and columns.

New app drawer ( Google 5.3) app icon sizes

I had modded my dpi to 280, and on the previous version of the Google app, this caused more app icons to fit because it increased the number of columns and rows in the grid. The sizes.of icons and text were nice and small.
With the 5.3 update along with the vertical drawer, app icons are big and only 4 fit per row. Any way to get around this? Will I have to reset dpi and change it again?
You can change your launcher, some allow you to change the size of the icons. Or try something like Icon Changer Free.

Just downgrade your launcher.

Friend you can use nova launcher which allows you to manipulate icon sizes and you could also hold back to stock Google now launcher like experience on it.

Has anyone figured out a workaround to changing icons on the Google Now Launcher?

I'm using the Google Now launcher on my S7, and it along with a Marshmallow theme from the Samsung theme store has given the phone a nice stock Android look. Unfortunately, the icon pack included along with the Marshmallow theme hasn't applied on GNL. I know GNL doesn't natively support icon packs but has anyone figured out a workaround for this? The TouchWiz icons stand out otherwise. And when I say icon packs, I mean in the app drawer too, not just modded shortcuts on the home screen.
In case you have root you can use Xposed and the XGEL module to use a different icon pack:

Otherwise (i.e. without root) I would recommend a launcher like Nova.
I'm not rooted.

Use Nova Launcher. You can set it up to look exactly like GEL, but it's more functional and performs better. You can use Google Opinion Rewards to build up a couple of £/$ to cover the cost of "Prime" but it's not necessary.
Fyi for anyone googling this or looking for this still. I had my s7 edge display scaling set to condensed to fit more on the screen. Once I changed it back to standard (with the material Samsung theme applied) and rebooted the correct icons appeared. Could be that the change forces the launcher to recreate icons or clear it's cache etc.
Also, stock android lovers, install good lock from the galaxy app stores to bring the stock android notification shade and status bar into your s7. Got a very stock feel now with Samsung material theme, Google now launcher and good lock.
Hope this helps someone.
So switch your display scaling after setting your theme should flush the icons ??

Problem with pixel launcher

Guys Yesterday I installed the apk of pixel launcher and it looked very good, so I decided to make more room on my desktop, switching the DPI to 440.
The result, after reboot, was a mess: now I have only 4 icons on the quick launch area of the desktop, instead of the default 5 and a huge space between the icons in the app drawer. Reinstalling the app haven't sorted the expected effect.
Back to trebuchet launcher, it's working fine with usual icon spacing.
I think there's some hidden config file deep in the phone folders that holds the wrong configuration of pixel launcher, but I don't know what to do in order to get it working correctly.
Change the DPI to 400 or 410... That will work and make some more space. Pixel launcher Icon size and desktop grid depends on DPI , while trebuchet launcher have options to change icon size and grid. That's why it didn't affected trebuchet.
The strange thing is that at the first install there were 5 icons in the quick launch area and a good icon spacing also with 480 DPI. Moreover if I change DPI to 400, the space in the drawer will not change, I will only be able to get 5 icons in the quick launch area.
still got this problem in my 3 devices with resurrection remix rom,did u figure it out?thx
There is no solution for that. Pixel launcher is not configurable enough. Either change your dpi or choose some other launcher. I'm on Nougat and it looks pretty good, with small font and smaller display size settings.

OneUi icon size tweak?

Hi guys,
I am wondering is there a tweak or some way to tweak the size of the icons in OneUI Home?
I wrote this in Reddit, but I still haven't received a working solution, so I decided to post my question here:
I've recently bought S10e and when you switch the grid from 4x5 to 4x6 the icons are getting too small.
Honestly, I think that's a bug, because there is plenty of space left on the screen, especially between icons and at the bottom, and beside this, folder icons are staying bigger, which should be the case in the app drawer. Looks very ugly, unfinished this way.
Already tried 3rd party launcher but there isn't any which is allowing to place icons in the drawer in custom order( most of them sort alphabetically).
I've also tried changing the dpi in developer options to from 411 to 450 and that did what I wanted, but there's a problem with the font in app drawer getting too small...
I would appreciate any help!
I Have same problem too! Icons are too small in s10e i hate this. Before update i think that icons were a little more bigger than now. It's really sad that in 2019 doesn't exist any tweak or APK for display resolution and One UI icon size. Any way for resolve this ?
Can't help with a custom app drawer layout, but Nova launcher will allow you set custom icon size both on your homescreen and in your app drawer. You can increase the size up to 150%. And yes, I checked and it works with the stock icons.
Also Lawnchair Launcher.
I don't bother with any other now. It's very good.
