Power button - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I go to charge my one x. Light doesn't come on. Have to hold power down for quite a bit to turn on . Kinda like u do when u soft reset. I was on cm11 nightly ,torched kernel also. Then I wiped system cache etc and installed back up. Then I factory reset the backup and the prob solved.... But now,its doing it again..went to power on one x and led light was off..then I had to hold power down for like 10 secs.what Would could cause this??if I want a fix, think I could just flash an ruu?
chris

I am think this goes in q&a section.
Sent from my One xl

Yeah, this is in no way development related.
Sent from my Evita

I have the same problem. I'm not sure if it's ROM related or whatever.

My posts aren't being placed in correct sections. But anyways...my one x did this this morn. I wonder why..maybe the motherboard?
chris

It isn't rom related. I deep wiped and flashed a ROM that I know that doesn't have this issue
chris

Mine does that when I let the battery drain until the phone turns off. Then when I plug it in I have to hold down the power button until the lights blink then stop blinking. Then let go and press powet again.
Only then will my phone turn on
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app

This is a common fault across all 4.4 ROMs when you let the phone fully die, which you shouldn't do anyway because it's bad for the battery.
Sent from my Evita

Mine does that even when its a 60 % or when its 90. Doesn't matter what % does it all the time
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app

Are you using a custom kernel?
Sent from my Evita

I got it fixed. Thanks again tim.
chris

Can you explain how you fixed it please? That way if someone else is having the same problem the solution will be public.
Sent from my Evita

I uninstalled that modded twrp of jriors and just flashed the twrp 2.6.3. Idk for sure if that was the correct fix,but it seemed to work.
chris

My posts keep going to wrong section. This xda app is quirky. Lol
chris

So you weren't using a custom kernel? What was the last ROM you were on that it occurred on? And what ROM are you on now?

[CM 11][4.4] CyanogenMod 11 was the rom when the power button thing started...without the modded twrp...but i also flashed the wrong kernel. it was that zarboz 4.4... ...then the "power button" issues happened....so i did a full wipe....
then i flashed the modded twrp then that rom again..then i started having those "power button" issues again..
i once again did a full wipe and uninstalled that modded twrp..and that seemed like the "fix"
but i just decided to flash the kickdroidxl rom for a taste of sense again...

yep..i found the culprit. it is the modded twrp of jriors...i reflashed the twrp and its doing it again. lol

I'm not convinced that it's the recovery. There are hundreds of people using that recovery and you seem to be the only person having the problem.
Sent from my Evita

well..it dont matter anyways..lol..i hit factory reset on recovery and i lost everything anways...trying to flash the ruu but cant do that either...ugh..oh well

I have also had the issues he's talking about that I didn't have prior to the recovery. in particular when I'm charging my phone and I power it down it looks like it shut down but to boot again I gotta hold power for 15 seconds (lights flash) boots
Not a major issue tho it's worth it to have kk roms I'm happy

[Solved][Q] Phone self reboots after shutdown

Hi guys. My phone is self rebooting after a full shutdown. phone is rooted, CWM 3.0.0.6, RCMIXHD V5.2 is the rom installed. This rom has advanced power menu as default. The problem appeared when I switched to coredroid rom and then I flashed back RCMIXHD because I had too many issues with coredroid including this, then I don't think this problem is rom related. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Solution: I took the PD98.IMG file from the link below posted by Bubby in his FAQ thread for one click root:
http://www.google.com/url?q=http://...sntz=1&usg=AFQjCNFB5N69qN9TwX6vS7wvJQ7ZlSxiWw
I just flashed it using bootloader and then my phone shuts down completely. The problem is I cannot flash any rom that have advanced power menu, if so the problem appears again.

Did you wipe data and dalvik, before flashing a different ROM?
I always do so. Wipe data, cache and dalvik cache. The coredroid rom even does the data wipe itself before flashing. After flashing this rom the problem appeared. I had before stock optimized and RCMIXHD and never had this issue.

Noob question: Some roms ask for 3.0.0.6 for flashing. What if I want to flash those roms? It is just to flash back 3.0.0.6 and it is ok to proceed with the rom flashing?

This just uninstall rom manager. I've read in some other forums how to remove cwm. This is what I've found for a Droid X i.e.:
Run "su"
Run "mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system"
Run "cp /system/bin/logwrapper.bin /system/bin/logwrapper"
Reboot
The problem is we don't have exactly the same folders in our device.

[Q] Complete freeze

I have the latest stock JB installed from the google factory images with simple root v1.0 and clockworkmod recovery 5.0.2.0, and my phone completely freezes from time to time. If I push the power button the screen goes off, but if I push it again, only the buttons light up, so I have to pull out my battery to reset it. It happens more and more and it get's really annoying. I just had a full wipe a couple days ago, and it did the same thing before, but I didn't had any problems like this with ics. Anyone else having similar problems or is my phone getting crazy? Any advice?

What? He has stock JB, with the stock kernel. There's hardly anything more stable than that....
The graphics driver had been throwing bugs, but the new r6 release had an update so possibly fixed bug. May be the cause of the OP issue

Can't find stable Android 4.x ROM/ Kernel

Hi guys,
I'm trying to find a Android 4 ROM/ Kernel that doesn't randomly reboot my MT4GS. So far no luck with CM 9.1 from scverhagen r8, r9b, r7b and the experimental 10a3, AOKP 4.2, CM 10 has been most stable of all so far but drains battery soo fast and also got me random reboots or shutoffs sometimes... The other ones usually reboot very fast after flashing. About 10 minutes after that, at least if the phone sits idle. Maybe when the phone is going to sleep or deep sleep? (Don't know what that is exactly)
Since these ROMs seem to be very stable with a lot of you guys, maybe I'm doing something wrong? I always wipe and format data and system and wipe battery stats and dalvik cache before flashing and don't use the phone for 7 minutes after rebooting... I have the newest radio I could find in the forums which is Radio 11.59.3504.00_11.16.3504.20_2
As always, your help means a lot to me and is greatly appreciated.

I am still without a clue, even you guys don't have another idea? Haha I don't get computer stuff even after all these years...
Oh I got another idea. Maybe my battery is broken and because most kernels optimize battery use and undervolting etc, maybe this results in my phone crashing or rebooting? Also, maybe a reboot means a problem with the rom/ kernel and a crash (instant shut down) means higher propability for a battery problem?
Man I'm really desperate hahaha

Most kernels probably wont have undervolting built it, and yes as your rev soff you dont need to flash the kernel seperate.
Battery could be a culprit but not a common cause, maybe pull a last_kmsg next time it happens

You're having problems with every single 4.X series ROM you flash? Even with the original kernel that is supplied with that ROM? That just sounds SO weird! Almost as if you have a secured bootloader. Even with S-Off, that would keep it from flashing with the ROM. You haven't flashed a different bootloader sometime have you?

If you try to flash a new bootloader the only way to get soff again would be via the wire trick, more complicaed then the revolutionary method but better, at the same time not neccesary.

Ok, right now I'll not try flashing bootloader since everything seems to be normal.
What I did to get last_kmsg:
Code:
Open terminal app
Enter "su" to get root privileges
Enter "cat /proc/last_kmsg > /sdcard/last_kmsg.txt" to save current log.
Close terminal app.

I can't remember using a ROM that never crashed, but I'll try a stock ROM if nothing else works. However an old kernel of scverhagens CM 9.1 seems to work flawlessly if battery is not about < 15%. The newest r10 kernel on the other hand always immediately crashes when the phone is not charging. When charging I haven't experienced a crash yet. That's strange and makes me suspect my battery is the problem.

So, I'm reviving this thread, because I stopped writing only because my phone was broken. Now it's back and I'm facing this problem again.
I've tried a lot of the 4.x ROMs here from the forums, but all of them rebooted or shut down after 5 - 10 minutes after flashing. I also tried some without flashing gapps even, but still the same symptoms. Also tested it with my new battery, nothing changed. Even the scverhagen CM 9.1 ROM rebootet shortly after flashing that worked longer previously (guess that was just by chance)
Now I've tried the original image and it works! Ugh. So what can be wrong, any ideas?
I was having this issue as well and it ended up being my battery. I had ordered those gold ones and luckily had kept my stock. Plugged the stock one in and my reboots went away. Not sure if that's your issue. My brother had this issue and we updated his CWM that was older to the latest TWRP and that fixed his reboots. Hope either of those suggestions help

It happened with both stock and new battery (Anker).
Thanks, update to latest TWRP had been my next try, if it didn't work now. But it does! Yeaaah so happy Thanks to everyone again. Almost three hours uptime and not a single issue so far!
To conclude: What I did:
Revert completely back to stock with BlueIX6's stock image (except that phone was still s-off and sdcard not wiped).
Then followed instructions to unlock bootloader, flash CWM recovery and finally flashed ROM (see sticky thread). Works like a charm!
In hindsight maybe radio made my phone unstable... I think it's the only thing that's different from now.

Actually there's no specific reason(at least till now) and hence solution for this black screen bug. Some of the guys who have it have reported to come around it by taking out the battery and rebooting until they get rid of it.But again the number of battery pulls varies from just one time for some to about 40 minutes of battery pull for some others. So can't really say if you tried enough or what else might be the solution. This is the situation as is.
Keep trying or wait till it gets fixed there is really nothing else that you can do at the moment.

Is there a way to keep the capacitive key backlight always on? Didn't spot anything in the main thread about this.
What is with this "♫" symbol?? It's very annoying, ugly, and it's everywhere on this ROM. in instagram, when entering passwords, in descriptions of apps in the playstore.
Loving this so far, but I do have a few concerns. I did make sure to install correctly (CM recovery -> wipe data, flash, reboot, flash gapps), but I'm running into some minor issues.
- My phone seems to be sluggish at times, especially noticeable when turning the screen off and when it vibrates (anything that vibrates twice in a short amount of time). There's a good half-second delay with each of these, much slower than on CM10. Is this normal? Other than that it runs pretty quickly.
- This is the more major issue, the alarm. Everything else in the gapps package works properly except for the alarm function of the clock. When an alarm goes off, there's no popup or anything, and pressing power stops the vibration from the alarm, but it doesn't actually turn the sound off. I have to kill the Alarm Klaxon service to shut it off. Any idea what could be causing this? I haven't heard of anyone else with this bug yet.
Will try flashing once again with BMM this time..

When I boot into Recovery mode, I cannot see any option to Wipe Data / Factory Reset. I am pretty new at this and so if anyone outlines the steps in detail or posts any link to point in me in the right direction, it would help me much. Thanks in advance.

If you are new to flashing ROM's stay away from this because currently a lot of users face black screen issues etc. Also it should not be installed over JB base as well. Read the entire thread from post one till current and you will see for yourself as it will enlighten you on a lot of aspects what people have already tried & which may save you from heartburn. JB gives a great user experience, enjoy it for a while & then get on the bandwagon when you are more of a informed user.

You were right. I watched the video on flashing ROMS from here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kumkZiGbTFI and tried it out. Got the black screen issue when flashing over JB. Then FXZd back to stock ICS and reflashed, but got the same thing again. So i'm back on ICS now. I suppose i'll upgrade to JB later and stay there for a while till this thing is sorted out.
Anyone getting YouTube problems.... Freezing... Could not stream at all with March build.

[Q] ViperS 5 - Headphone reboot

Hi! I have flashed ViperS 5 on my Sensation and I'm very happy with the ROM. The only thing is that every time I try to connect something to my headphone jack, no matter if it's low-end earbuds, high-end headphones or just an AUX-cable, the phone reboots. I tried to reintsall the ROM over the one I already have with no luck. I then tried to wipe the phone, and then flash the ROM again. It worked for a while, but then, the problem appeared again. Do you have any clue on what's the problem?
A guy told me I should re-flash the kernel on top of the installed ROM with VKF (Venom Kernel Flasher), so I tried this. I connected my phone to my computer through USB and turned on USB Debugging. I chose to install the kernel and pressed start. The software said it was successfully connected, but failed to push the kernel-modules to my device. I also tried to push the files to the phone from the fastboot-menu in the bootloader, but with no luck.
How should I fix the problem? If someone have a flashable .zip-file with the ViperS 5-kernel, I would be glad if you could provide me the link. Is it any other way I can "install" or "flash" the kernel-modules?
If re-flashing the kernel is the only option to fix the problem, please tell me. If it isn't, in what way can I fix the reboot-problem?
Are you S-on or s-off? If you're S-On try flashing the ROM again with full wipe with smartflash enabled. If ROM doesn't boot try extracting boot.img from the ROM zip and flash manually through adb with command fastboot flash boot boot.img . First of all try the wizdroid app and see if it fix the headphones issue.

I'm S-OFF, so I don't think the problem lays there, but I'll check out the Wizdroid-app
S-off but locked bootloader by any chance? I had a problem with flashing splash screen as well with locked bootloader(but s-off)
Since Today i got the same issue. when pluggin my headphone in the sensation reboots and stuck in a bootloop until unplugging headset.
I flashed the Rom without full wipe but cleaned dalvik and cache. everyting works fine, and fast, except the headset.
Device: Z710e, S-OFF unlocked Bootloader
Headset: Monster Beats Audio urBeats
Any ideas or need further informations?
So I'm not the only one
Hey guys, i have the same Problem as you mentioned before. I installed the "Audio crash_Test" File from from developer Forum and after that the headphone works, but now i get a fc if i Start the camera. Then i installed the "Audio Crash Test_revert" and i got a bootloop.... Last but Not least, i made a fullwipe and installed the viper5 Rom.... And my phone reboot if i plug my headphone on the Sensation.

Some minutes ago, i installed the "Audio_Crash_Test2" and now my headphone works.
But if i open the camera, the phone reboots.
Can nobody help here?
Just want to chime in here. I am having headphone problems too. Bluetooth headphones as well. I posted it in the official forum but like everything i post it went ignored other than one person giving the ol' "works for me, bro. dont know what to tell you. have a good day" routine.
Also, i could not find this "Audio_Crash_Test2" file. Google fails to bring up any results as well as a search in this forum... anyone got a link?
I have to say i have tried to replicate what yousay and it does not ever reboot my device. Maybe dead battery :S
What do you mean exactly? The way to install the "Audio crash Test" files?

No. It is not a dead battery. All i know is clearly other people are having this problem. i have reflashed this ROM 4 times. Full wipe every time. Before installing nay app or changing any settings i have tried both Bluetooth headset and wired headphone. I am very glad you dont have a problem. That's awesome and you are very lucky. But clearly other people do.
As far as the audio crash file. I am having trouble finding it. Google brings me no results and a search on the forum gets me no results either.

Its not just "Power Amp" if you change any settings about the headphones like equalizers and stuff it will cause random reboots and you will have to flash completely again
I playing music with xplore preview without headphone,, 1 minute music ago then I put headphone,, phone get restart and again, but I have recovery data cwm

so no changes at all
I have. Checked and reboot upon taking a photo with flash on low battery will force a reboot. This also happened to me today whilst I had 14% on bat and plugged headphones in and was greeted with a reboot. I am pretty sure it has to be kernel related issue now and is not a Rom issue. Flashed back to viperS 3.1.4 and never got the issue so I cannot understand what's going on.
Cleared, thanks, just run recovery cwm then restore data only
