Is there any way to root vzw Razr Maxx HD? - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know I missed the boat way back when... I just wondered if any new method of rooting the Razr Maxx HD is out? I'm stock on whatever the latest update is but using on wifi only so I don't care about warranty. It's expired anyway.
I read rsd (whatever that is) is "dangerous" but I don't know what is meant. Does it take personal data or something? I also wonder if anyone ever discovered a new way to unlock bootloader. Someone will say "go read it yourself" but all the threads seem outdated.

Unlock bootloader... I wish! Root on the latest 9.30.1 has a forum dedicated to this. Easy search. Says "root confirmed" in the title.

The last few posts described unresolved problems. I thought it might be outdated? Since I am a wifi only user do I need to freeze updater? In other words do wifi only users get pushed vzw updates?

Ota means mobile data.
Do you have a 926? Then root works.

I had no issues rooting my xt926.

No mobile data no ota ud!!
Edit
No mobile data on your phone plan, no ota.
I think that is right anyway

I get that. I just want to make sure that's the routing process will work with no mobile data

I know updates are free. That doesn't necessarily mean you get them when not on vzw network.
What I wanted to do is uninstall Verizon Drek like backup assistant but since it is in system I guess I won't be able to do that even if I am rooted.

Yes you can just rename the .apk to ."whatever"
Reboot
Leave the .odex alone.
Just remember to fix the extension to take the ota.
Mind you this only applies to apps that you are not allowed to disable in settings, apps.

Blocking OTA Updates

Hey everyone, sorry if this already been posted (mods feel free to delete/lock, if so), but I was wondering if anyone can offer a method on how to block OTA updates from Verizon. I'm currently rooted on Synergy 1.7 and unlocked my Bootloader with EZ Unlock.
What would be the easiest/best method to block these updates?

eschelon said that Synergy was already configured to block the OTA. Even if it gets downloaded and tries to install, cwm should block it if I'm not mistaken

I can't confirm that this works but I work at an indirect store and in eroes (what we use to pull up customers accounts) we have an option to block ota updates. If I can do it, I know customer service can do it. So if your really paranoid about getting one, it might be worth it to give them a call.

You really think they'll do that? When it comes to troubleshooting that's one of the first things they ask about.
If you are running any custom recovery, any OTA will always fail because of that. It might try to install itself, but it won't work.
Perfect. Thanks, guys.

[Q] Verizon Galaxy S3 remove 4.3 update?

Does this method work on the verizon Galaxy S3? Has anyone tried it to confirm it works? I want to downgrade so I can root and install cyanogenmod which I can't seem to do with the 4.3 update.

Yeah I'm a new member and I just learned I can't post links, yet. but the method is from Androidpit and the method requires using Odin and a .tar file of an older version
At this point I'm pretty sure all methods have been tried to downgrade back to 4.1.2

If you took the OTA 4.3 update, the bootloader is locked and it has blocked ALL earlier factory versions and all non factory ROMS.

I looked up your specific tutorial, it definitely will not work.
That only works on the international model. As a general rule, never trust a guide unless it says it's specifically for the Verizon galaxy s3. It's locked down much tighter than any other s3 models, and many alterations that can be performed on the other variants will often brick this model.

You can still root, install a ROM with Safe Root or Safestrap or whatever, and have a better-running phone. You simply can't install a different kernel... it sounds like you can even still have a custom Recovery (modified TWRP is my understanding).

Want some advice? Sell the S3 for a pre-4.3 S3 or sell the S3 for another device. Theres no guarantee that AOSP will ever work with Safestrap.

It wouldn't, you need a CDMA device, the international s3 doesn't have CDMA bands. Verizon leaves you pretty limited in device selection.

First, this phone hasn't even been out 2 weeks yet, relax.
Second, this question should be directed to the developers of FoxFi.

I know this is an old thread but I need some info. I just got the M8 and it updated to 4.4.3 which I had found out before hand that FoxFi worked on that update. As soon as it finished updating to 4.4.3 it asked and I downloaded 4.4.4. I'm reluctant to install it until I find out it works. I've been without FoxFi too long since inadvertently upgrading a previous Motorola handset to 4.4.4. Just got it back with the M8 and don't want to lose it again.

I didn't root anything until the folks at Google decided to restrict writing to ext SD cards. But, if you do there's a lot of info on enabling tethering.

Been a long time since update

The current ROM I have is BoneStockRom V3.3, I like it good enough but looking to see what else is out there. I do NOT want something that I have to flash all the time. I would like something more up to date, stable and has a better radio/signal than what I have now.
know I am asking for many opinions, but I love feedback, so cab you guys give me your thoughts?
THanks

As far as a radio you can update to the latest modem if you'd like which is NE1 without having any issues. I've ran tons of roms on my old S3 but the best by far was slimkat. It's truly up to you what you want but your best bet is to read others opinions

I also have a Note 3 for Verizon, but when I got it it had 4.4.4 and from what I have read, there is not a root for it. I mainly want to root to get rid of the bloatware and get the mobile hotspot freed up. I tried using FoxFi on the Note 3, but that was horrible.
Thanks again.

I have the S3 still simply because it is rooted. I got the Note 3 a few months ago but at that time I did not know that it could not be rooted since it has 4.4.4. I am using the S3 now because it is rooted and I can mess with it. If I could root the Note 3, then I would.

I hate to be a stick in the mud but I agree. Especially since this phone is on lollipop. The N4 might have a chance on KK but I don't see that happening soon either. On the bright side this S6 is running great the way it is and has some nice features so I'm thankful for that.
You know I used to root to get decent performance of of a lagging phone, but I'm not sure I'm missing root that much. Now granted there are a few apps that I miss from no root. But I think I can live without root on this phone at the moment. Subject to change to
I'd love root for the ability to theme (theme store themes are garbage) as well as the ability too add things that should have never been removed. Stock browser, smart manager, etc.
Side note, I really hate that I can't draw on pics/screenshots like I could on my Note 3/4 and my s5. Samsung removes features I use in favor of what? /rant off

Why do you say it will "likely not be rooted"? Is Lollipop that much harder for the devs to root or something? Or is support dwindling?
I need root mainly because I need to be able to tether for my job on a daily basis and I'm not about to dish out even more $ to VZW.....my unlimited data is my unlimited data and I'll use it how I please.

Ever since the Mid Galaxy S4 area rooting has been pretty much useless anyway. The most I can do with a rooted S5 is flash lightened TW software which I can do on a non rooted phone. You can flash anything like Cyanogen or custom kernels so rooting now a days is pointless. With that said though it would still be cool if we could

This is not entirely true and depends on your usage. I use automation apps and without root, you don't have the ability to turn on and off GPS, Data, etc. There are other benefits to root as well such as ad blocking.
