[Q] No connection 24 hours after root. What should I do? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I recently updated my rom to Droidkang v18, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2525627. Still running cyanogenmod 11, but for some reason whem I woke up this morning I had no service on my phone. I can't even contact tmobile to see if it is something on their end. Emergency calls only is all I see. Should I reset to factory settings and reinstall? Should I unroot and reroot? Ive checked the threads and haven't seen a post like this so I apologize if this has already been answered. I unfortunately can't remember which rom I had before this one, but it was running cyanogenmod 11.

Check your sim card. Pull and re-insert.

Nexus S Not Connecting to Network on Reboot

My dad's Nexus S keeps disconnecting from Wind and will NOT automatically reconnect to Wind. I've set it to Automatic. On top of this, *every* time I enable Wifi or Bluetooth on his device, his Wind connection drops and remains dropped until I manually reconnect.
The only way around this issue is if I manually select Wind's network in the settings menu, thereby avoiding 'Select automatically'. The problem here is that when the phone needs a reboot, it doesnt remember the last network and it needs to be manually selected *again*.
I've done a quick search via Google and there are others having the same/similar problem;
http://www.google.ca/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=34411ac78e8a4ff6&hl=en
Apparently the 2.3.6 update doesn't fix this either. Is there a 2.3.7 release? I'm even thinking of rooting and flashing the phone to use a custom ROM (MIUI, its much cleaner with better shortcuts which my dad would like).
Does anyone know of a solution to this? I'm thinking of going into Wind and having it replaced (its less than a week old). Question is, if he's racked up more than 30 minutes, can he still get a straight exchange for the phone? Would it still be eligible for exchange/replacement if I tried the ICS update to the phone?
Did you guys root the phone? Ans if you did, did you installed custom rom? If so, it just might be the incompatibility with the Nexus S. If you didn't root it, the phone just might be defected. Try updating the os. It always doesn't hurt to update os. If that doesn't work, I guess you should return it and get the new one it somethign :/

At the minimum, I would try updating to 2.3.6.
Yeah try to update to newer os. And if that doesn't work, I guess you should exchange your phone or something??

I've updated my original question with more details.
But no, its not a rooted phone. Everything is stock Android 2.3.4. The phone is only about 5 days old, we got it for him on the 27th of December (or 26th, cant remember). I have installed a few applications (cnn news, wp.pl, bbc news, unit converter, etc). I've updated all the applications as well.
How can I obtain 2.3.6 and install it? Is the process difficult and would it render the phone non-returnable to his carrier for fixing/replacing?
If you have stock, the process is easy was snap if there's a avaliable ota update to your phone. Go to setting-about phone-system update (I'm pretty sure) and if there's an update for your phone, you can download and install the new rom from there.

Will it give me the option to update to Iced Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 as well?
Um probably not. Depends on what model you're using. It probably promt you to update to later version of gingerbread :/

Hi, I have the exact same problem as the original poster, except worse.
I lose my data connection when I turn on wifi, or after I reboot my phone. And once I lose the connection, I have to power off and take out the battery for it to work again. My phone was already rooted when this problem start about 4 days ago, was using stock rom (2.3.6) I downloaded for my I9020T (don't ask, minor hiccup when I was rooting my phone...)
So far I've tried the following:
1. boot to CWM recovery -> factory reset, wipe cache, unsuccessful
2. *#*#4636#*#*, changed preferred network to WCMDA preferred or only, unsuccessful (I also had issues with sending SMS, so I also updated the SMSC, which is 07916174080001f6 for Mobilicity in Canada). Also selected "Automatic" in "Select radio band".
3. I flashed the OS to cyanogen, still same problem.
4. In mobile settings, tried changing apn, toggle data connection, 2g/3g, "Select automatically", doesn't work.
5. a whole bunch of other voodoo I found on the web, but none worked.
The only thing I haven't tried yet is flashing with a stock sbf, because I can't seem to be able to find one.
The error message I see in *#*#4636#*# -> Phone info is something like DcInactiveConnection...: unknown data error (sorry can't remember the whole thing).
Also tried asking mobilicity to refresh my service, but that also didn't help.
I ran logcat in terminal emulator and searched through the log for "error" or anything suspicious, the only thing I saw were these,
1. Error loading keycharmap file '/system/usr/keychars/herring-keypad.kcm.bin'
2. caused by: java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Connection timed out
I/TelephonyRegistry( 188): notifyDataConnection: state=0 isDataConnectivityPossible=false reason=apnSwitched interfaceName=null networkType=3
I/TelephonyRegistry
3. onErrorResponse: Failed to send 5 events because of [com.android.volley.TimeoutError]
D/Volley
Tried googling all of them but didn't find anything useful.
I've been at this for the past 4 days and still haven't been able to fix this. I tried swapping in another mobilicity sim card and it also had the same behaviour, so it's definitely something with my phone.
Also, after I power down and remove the battery and power it back up again, the connection still doesn't come back automatically, but I have to toggle the airplane mode to get it to connect.
At this point, what else can/should I try? Or should I just ask them to send it for warranty?
Any help/advice will be VERY much appreciated!!!! And apologies for the essay.
Thanks!
NM, I reread your post. I have nothing for you. Sorry.

Cannot connect to Verzion after CM10.1 update

I've been running the CM10 nightly builds, and earlier today I updated to CM10.1. Immediately upon updating, I had no service with Verizon. I tried to roll back to my previous build, but it was stuck in a boot loop. After many hours of frustration I returned the phone to stock only to face the same issue. I cannot get any service. I show bars, but can't actually connect to the network. Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

It is now fixed. I have no real idea how, but I pull SIM, rebooted and connected to wifi. Let it sit on activating for a bit then I killed it and replaced SIM. Working now.

Good to hear! I nearly died when my phone lost IMEI.
Working again
I had the same problem. Did not fix it in CM 10.1, but using ROM manager I was able to restore from sdcard the backup I made of the rooted stock rom (ICS 4.0.4). I wiped user data firstt, and at the end cleared the cache files you would when installing a rom.Everything works like it did before I installed CM10 M2. Hope this helps someone. This is a US Cellular SCH-R530U, and I did use the correct nightly cw-10.1-20122120-NIGHTLY-d2usc.zip
Does anyone have a link that can tell me how to fix this?

You will need to re-provision the phone. it just worked for me. I believe you must be on TW and im pretty sure this wipes the sdcard too.

[Q] [help] My verizon GS3 won't make or recieve calls!?

So I rooted my GS3 I535 4.1.2 yesterday and everything worked fine. It wasn't until I flashed a hyperdrive ROM that the issue occured. The phone still made and recieved texts no problem and can I could still use the internet, facebook and other data apps as normal but could not place a call and every time someone calls me they get sent straight to voicemail. I quickly reverted the phone back to stock and did a factory reset. After all of the ota updates finished this morning to bring it back up to date from 4.0.4 to 4.1.2 I now have the phone back just how I recieved it out of the box and it is still giving me the same problem. Has anyone else had the same problem? How do I fix it?

First thing you should check is to see if you've lost your IMEI/ERI. To check that go to Settings>About Phone>Status. Your IMEI should be the number that is under your battery and your ERI should read 5. If those say 0 and none respectively you'll need to restore them. But let's see if that's the problem first.
I resolved the issue a few days ago. It was qn issues with verizon. They had to reset the signal being sent to the phone. Thanks for your help

Hey guys... I recently encountered a problem with my nexus 5. Suddenly my phone lost signal and it won't receive any more signal.I was on the latest version of PA on 4.4.2 ...... Now I factory reset my phone and it's stuck on phone setup... What do I do?? I'll try flashing back to stock later and I'll see if it's fixed... Also, before factory resetting my phone, I checked my IMEI and it isnt gone.... It was still there.. Strange... Any suggestions on what I should do? Also, I don't have a nandroid backup....

Still no luck
Guys... Returning to stock didn't do anything... Still the same problem... Now I'm stuck in setting up the phone since it shows that my sim is inserted and it's trying to activate the sim... But it stays there forever ... I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the sim holder... When I tried removing the SIM card for the phone, it failed to eject my SIM card... Now I have to find a way to get my sim out... When I use the pin, it only opens 1/8.. It's too small to fit anything in it... What do I do?? Running out of ideas...
I could give my phone for repair but I live in Dubai and I don't think there are any service centers here...

Phone randomly shutting down

Hi, I've done some research through xda and other outside sources and haven't been able to find a solution or explanation for my issue. The problem that I am having is my phone is randomly shutting down and I have to pull the battery before it allows me to turn it back on. I'm not sure if this is a software, hardware, or battery issue.
I'm running an LG G3 D850, rooted and running flexos 5.1.1, and the 777 kernel. Everything has been fine until about a week ago when I noticed the first shutdown. As of the past two days it has become more frequent. I think the issue may have been with the settings I had set for the app I was using to manage my kernel settings. So I've uninstalled it and will report back. I have a logcat and a screenshot of my about phone, i just dont know how to post it. Any and all help is appreciated, really not wanting to flash another ROM if it can be avoided. Thanks.

Thank you for your quick response. Im trying to avoid that as long as possible, but will turn to it as a last resort. Would you maybe have any other suggestions? I would like to post this logcat as I'm hoping it may shed some light on the shut downs. How might I do that?
