Tasker App - Moto X Themes and Apps

After watching a bunch of tutorial videos about Tasker, I bought the app. But unfortunately I'm finding out that there's things I wanted to do that I cant. I think it has something to do with Active Notifications. For instance, I created a profile to skip to the next song (Play Music) when a variable is true (car mode) by shaking the device. The profile works great when the screen is on, but doesn't seem to work once the screen shuts off, like active notifications are blocking it or something. I was kinda hoping that I'd have a little more control, but I think that's because of the app itself and not the device. Anyone have any input or tips from experience?

In settings to can turn on gestures while the screen is off. And you made a wonderful purchase by the way. Tasker is amazing

app to mute notifications between certain hrs?

Sorry if this has already been asked but is there a way to disable or mute notifications between certain times? Or at least email? This way the phone doesnt go off when I am asleep.
I use Sound Manager. Gives you the option to set the volume levels for media, system, notifications, etc and to set schedules for any of these. I use it to set my notification volume down low after 2:00am and to come back up to high volume around 8:00am and so far has worked just fine.
Tasker works great for this
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Tasker probably can do that but its a ready complicated learning curve imo
Tasker rocks..definitely worth it...
I have the same thing..here is how to set it up in Tasker...
From 23:00 Til 07:00
Silent Mode On
That's it...
I also have it setup for an exception that if one of two people call me from work then it overrides and rings...
I have done a ton of stuff with Tasker -- like turning phone to vibrate during meetings, turning on gps automatically when I run certain programs (and then turn it off again when I close them), Play a sound when the plug becomes disconnected while charging, change the screen turnoff time when phone is charging, etc..
If you can't tell I love it.
Another plug for Tasker. It is awesome. The MacGyver part of my signature is brought to you in part by Tasker. And the letter A, for Awesome.
If Tasker seems hard to get into, check out their site for info: http://tasker.dinglisch.net/
A really nice use I have for it is automatically adjusting my screen brightness when plugged/unplugged.

Tasker does have a bit of a learning curve and if it's just simply turning off notifications, there are probably simpler solutions. But I love Tasker to bits. I have it set so between my usual bedtime hours, the phone goes silent, Screen Filter activates and dims it way down and Orientation turns off so I can lay down and read without it turning into landscape. I seem to always be finding new things to add and tinker.
Also recently added a function where the screen timeout goes away when Maps is activated. Got tired of losing the lock because it takes so darn long to get it back!
I use Volume Toggle - it is free (ad supported) and it has a bunch of different profiles you can customize.
It has a companion program "Volume Timer" (also free) that lets you set days and times for each profile.
I used to use Sound Manager but it decided to stop working, even after re-installing it still decided to quit after using it awhile.
I now use AudioGuru, it works great for scheduling volume settings for anything on your phone (System, Alarm, Ringer, Notifications, etc). Very easy to use and hasn't failed me yet. Recommended.
I use Silent Time Lite. It is free from the App Store and is very simple to use.
Sweet Dreams is available on the market and works great. Easy to use.
Thanks all, Tasker looks like it rocks. I will get it loaded. I like the "if bluetooth connected then read outloud the text messages", this way whenever I am in my car, it will read the tm! thats sweet.

Profile switcher?

I am new to the S3 and cannot find any easy way to switch sound profiles. Is there something built in to the S3 that I am missing? The main things I want to do are: At night, switch off vibrate, ringer, and LED notifications (keep alarm sound and vibrate active). Then in the morning have it switch back on vibrate, ring, and LED. Plus control screen brightness.
I have tried a couple of the profile switcher apps and none work well (ie, they don't over ride the phones settings).
I use tasker for stuff like this, which has a ton of options and conditions.
I have only briefly played with Tasker but see a ton of posts about it.
Are there preset profiles or can you download ones?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
You can search for downloads for tasker, but I think tasker best used by yourself to fully customize to your needs. When I first got tasker I never used it because seemed overwhelming. When I tried it again I really tried to learn it, and now I love it. Interfaces with nfc tags and eva voice assistant which helps me a lot. I have some computer programming experience which I think helped a little in understanding some commands easier like If, else, endif, etc. But spending time to learn it really is what helped me figure it out.
never used tasker
but ive read llama is similiar and free.
check it out
my ROM allows me to create up to 6ish profiles that are very easily switchable. (paranoiandrod)
Yeah, Llama is a simpler version of Tasker. Although I'm not sure if it can do anything with LED Notifications, that's probably something only Tasker could do.
Why dont you just set your ringer and vibrate then when its night time turn sounds to mute? The led will still work

An nfc tag near your bed tag would actually do this perfectly for you.

Night Mode?

Smartphone 2 new owner here.
I am trying to find out if there is a Night Mode for the SW2? I often spend nights away from home on business. I need to look at my watch during the night sometimes to check if it's time to catch an early flight. Is there anyway to switch on a Night Mode that stops the watch vibrating and stops the screen automatically lighting up with notifications?
I know I can turn off vibrate and bluetooth manually, but then I don't get notifications stored, and I have to remember to turn them back on when I want normal operation.
It would be nice to have Alarm notifications operate normally (light and vibrate), whilst other notifications come through, but don't light ot vibrate.
Anyone have any suggestions please?
Disable Bluetooth on the smartphone, it's easier.
You can set also a scheduled profile on the phone that at night turns off the Bluetooth and at morning turns it on.

Many thanks TMI. The simplest solutions are often the best
One more question please... Do I need an app for schedulng this (Blocking Mode doesn't seem to control Bluetooth). And, if so, does anyone recommend a simple app for scheduling bluetooth on/off?
Thank you.
There are many free profile scheduling apps on the Play Store
Some examples:

TaskS2 - useful tasker profiles to use with the S2

Hi all,
as you know @tipztv created a tasker Interface for the S2 called TaskS2.
I am curious to see what you're all doing with it! Please share your tasker profiles which you are using with your S2 or things you would like to do with it, but don't know how to do it with tasker. Please share your experience and knowledge for all of us to learn!
TIA
Hi,
nice Thread.
I use my gear s2 to send predefined whatsapp messages with whatstasker like "I'm driving home now" or "when will you be at home?".
Another task is to Start and stop time measuring for a project I'm working on with the App " Zeiterfassung". Dont know the name of the app in english.
For skiing I would like to trigger recording my Actionpro (german GoPro remake) via wifi. Maybe its possible with AutoInput.
I have just finished 2 tasks/profiles to check the capabilities of th interface. It is amazing.
1.) I have my own house automation system.I start a request from my Gear s2 to check the heating status and heating temperatures via http get requests and get the results as notificaton.I can also switch on/off heating manually from the watch.
2.)It was more interesting and powerful.I created my own sound profiles on my Note4(settings for standard mute and vibrating) With the combination of notification task and notification actions(selected as notification action) I am able to select the new sound profile on my watch directly with own images etc.... and switch the profile directly from watch.
With this second example I feel that with tasker capabilities I can use the watch for anything I want.

This app is very cool! But when It comes to turning on apps as action #1 they work. But for action #2 or even trying to create a task to 'kill app' doesn't work for me. Task executes but all apps remain running. And fix for this?

Not sure but I think this (kill app) may require root. Is your device rooted?
Yes it is, however the app itself doesn't ask me for root access.

My profiles are:
1. Dim the screen at night
2. Twist left to boost the screen brightness if I need it (like when I'm outside) and twist right to return to original brightness.
3. Auto rotate in certain apps only
4. Rotate wallpapers every 30 minutes
5. Wave a hand over the proximity sensor to skip to the next song when the screen's off and music is playing. Useful for when I'm driving.
6. Make a popup show up after my morning alarm goes off that shows the date (pulled from system), weather for the day (pulled from wunderground.com), and a motivational "You're awesome, go have a GREAT day!" The popup also shows up with a picture of my favorite actress to brighten my morning even more, haha.
I may not own an S2, but all of these will work with all phones.
Let me know if you want more details about any of these!

Odd. seems to work for me with root permissions unchecked. Does the task itself run and kill apps when you run it directly in Tasker (rather than the S2 app)?
If not then its not a problem with the S2 app and you should post here:

Hi, is there any way to make a notification permanent on S2? With tasker I can make notification with buttons and interactions and with permanent status they would work like any standard S2 widget.Even I i set the notification permanent on phone side it is not on th watch side.Is there any way to do this?
I'm using Tasker and TaskS2 to remote start & stop my 2015 Hyundai Sonata. It'd be better if Hyundai released an official BlueLink app but they seem to be focused only on Android Wear.
I also use TaskS2 to mute & un-mute all of my devices for when I take an afternoon nap.

What app do you use to call http requests? Also how do you manage to get variables like your house temperature in the notification? Thanks for sharing.
I'm looking into using tasker to have the watch pair over wifi when possible and use Bluetooth in all other cases. Does anyone have information on how to do this?
Does Tasks2 support showing notifications on the Watch?
Ie: a tasker profile the sends a notification to display it on the Watch.
I have a lot of Task´s but is very tricky to handle this on the watch, because task2s didn´t have folder
So i have Task Light: On-off-green light-red-light and so on
Music: Start Playlist XY... Safe in Plalist XY... Like this song
And any more i use more than 50 Task not every day..but with task2s is very complicated then i have to scroll down and down and down
Folder would be nice
Is it possible to intercept the Rotation of the phone bezzel and to send a Task using TaskS2 then?
Would love to turn the bezzel to set Audio volume using logitech harmony
I have several simple tasks set up for TaskS2. I have tasks set up to set my phone's alarm from my watch, using predefined times. These tasks also set variables, which are then used to create notifications, like a reminder for me to take my meditations an hour before I go to sleep, or telling me when my next alarm is when I ask. I can also toggle silent mode from TaskS2. I just wish I could input variables from TaskS2, so I didn't have to rely on predefined alarm times.
Anyone know how to have Tasker change a setting on the watch? It seems that most of the tasks referenced here have the watch initiate an action to occur on the phone. However, I'd like to have a couple of watch settings change everyday at specific times... I have a Gear S3. Can this be done? Thanks for any help or ideas you may have!
Exactly it'll would be great if this app had more features like those found on TasGear for the first Gear watch.
It could activate functions on the Gear, show messages, ring, etc
TaskS2 and Anymote
I use it to control my Tv, HiFi and media streaming devices via IR.

How are you accessing an IR device if the watch doesn't have IR?

[Tasker] Profiles to toggle Flash Notification setting automatically

Description
In light of not having a dedicated notification LED I set up some Tasker profiles to toggle the Accessibility setting Flash Notifications. I don't want it flashing while I'm using my phone, or while in my car on my wireless charging mount. This consists of 2 profiles and four tasks.
First profile will disable Flash Notifications when your screen is on and enable it when your screen is off, unless the Car profile says it's in your car and on your charger.
Second profile will disable Flash Notifications when it's connected to your car's Bluetooth (be sure to set it to your cars Bluetooth address), AND it's on the charger, unless the Screen profile says the screen is on, in which case the Flash Notifications will remain disabled until you turn you screen off. In my car, I use a wireless charger, so taking it off the charger disconnects power, and putting it back on the mount reconnects power automatically. My idea was that I don't want the Flash distracting other drivers, cuz they have a hard enough time being competent as it is. If you don't use a wireless charger or don't have Bluetooth in your car, you might have to tweak the activation of this profile to your specific case.
I have never shared a Tasker Profile before, so if anyone's interested in this and it doesn't import or something let me know.
Downloads
I am providing both downloadable attachments, and links to download from Tasker's site. You must also have Tasker and Tasker's helper app "Tasker Settings" installed.

I don't recall having to use adb to grant Tasker special permissions, but I will be doing a fresh install of this on my wife's phone tomorrow and will update if you need to.

Useful. Thanks.

I'm a complete idiot when it comes to Tasker. I have compiled ROMs from source, made many Smali edits, built themes (all many years ago when I had time) but never spent the time to figure out Tasker.
I would like Tasker to disable Holey Light (see screenshot) when Do not disturb is turned on and re-enable it when Do not disturb is turned off. Would you know how to (or could you make a profile) do this?

I second this!!!!
Tasker looks like a super useful tool, but f*** why make it so complicated and not user friendly.
I recently tried MacroDroid and like it more, but its definitely limited compared to Tasker from what I've learned, but it did work while I used it.
To disable Holey Light while in DND would be very nice to have. Please advise.

I'm not sure if Tasker can change the settings of another app without said app already being programmed to be controlled by Tasker. I'll have to see if this is possible.
Also, considering Holey Light is still in beta and being developed, you might try contacting Chainfire and seeing if he can add this setting to the app natively.

He's looking into adding Do not disturb but I already found a workaround for my problem. In Holey Light I just turn off for it to work when charging and screen is off. I charge my phone every night so it works out fine for me.

Only way I can think of having Tasker control it as is, would be to enable disable notification permissions or Accessibility service, both of which require root to do and I have the unrootable US Snapdragon variant.
On another note, Sammy has already added a variation of ring notifications that I'm sure they will expand on. As if now, it works with system apps with screen on or off, and with user apps with screen on.

I appreciate it, I also have the unrootable US Snapdragon.
Samsung's current implementation of the notification light is just plain useless. It stays on for like 5 seconds.
Holey Light is working perfectly for me the way I have it set up.
