[Q] Can't install TWRP over CWM - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Specs:
Tablet:
Asus TF300T running currently nothing previously CM10.2
Recovery: CWM 6.0.2.3
Computer
MacBook Pro running 10.9.1
I currently have CWM installed into the recovery portion and it is proving rather difficult to remove. I had TWRP flashed into recovery and had it working. I decided to get greedy and flash CM11 onto my tablet and TWRP kept coming back with error status 7. All the guides I had seen said to use CWM so I decided to give it a try. After finally sifting through the internet and finding the CWM that works on my tablet, CWM came back with errors saying "E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command" along with a couple other commands. I am also unable to mount the /sdcard/ portion of my internal memory. I am now able to boot into the bootloader and use ADB to flash the recovery and it says it's successful but the tablet totally freezes up after the install and I have to hold the power button down just to shut it off. After rebooting the tablet and choosing recovery it boots into CWM. My final goal is just to get CM10.2 back onto my tablet along with TWRP.
Anyone have any ideas as to how to accomplish this?

What bootloader are you on? CM11 requires either the touch CWM or TWRP 2.6.3.1 and both of those require a 4.2 bootloader that is not 10.6.1.8. You may have to upgrade by flashing the stock ROM first.

I had the stock 4.2 Asus ROM installed before I rooted my tablet. Right now I can't get cwm to even see the internal storage /sdcard/ along with many of the other spaces

When you start up the tablet and press Volume down to enter the fastboot menu, what is the version on the top left corner of the screen?

Well for starters it says
Code:
Key driver not found.. Booting OS
but the next line says
Code:
Android cardhu-user bootloader <1.00e> released by "US_epad-10.6.1.27.5-20130902" A-03
So I would assume that I could install CM11 but I'm not exactly sure. Also from the bootloader menu I chose to boot android instead of recovery and it booted into CM10.2 so i guess that part of the problem is fixed but I would still like to be able to install CM11 on my device.
Thanks so far!

OK So you need to install TWRP 2.6.3.1
Follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48508679&postcount=7
After that CM11 should be working fine.

The terminal only threw the usb_write error after I manually restarted the tablet but it will just hang if I don't manually reboot it. It also automatically starts up in the CWM. Is there such a thing as blessing start up drives such as with Linux/Mac? Or did I flash the CWM to the boot partition by accident?

Pretty sure you just flashed the wrong file?
Take the TWRP zip and extract the .img file. Then do:
Code:
$./fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash recovery /Users/henry/Desktop/TWRP/recovery.img
I hope you hadn't flashed a 4.1 recovery earlier....

I'm usually pretty careful to make sure that i'm only flashing recoveries for 4.2 or 4.3 specifically. I'm still stuck with CWM automatically booting and if I send the reboot to recovery command it is still going to CWM. Also I keep getting the could not clear input/output pipe errors.

So when the tablet starts up, it goes directly to CWM or will it go to the fastboot menu after holding down VOL Down? Try running
Code:
fastboot devices
as soon as it gets into CWM

It will automatically go into CWM. the only way into the bootloader menu is if I send the command
Code:
./adb reboot bootloader
if I type the fastboot devices command nothing shows up and it just goes to the next line.

[Q] fastboot flash recovery problem? "variable not supported"

Not sure if this belongs over here in Q/A as a new thread, or if I should append this to shabbypenguin's root thread. I am attempting to root my Photon Q following shabbypenguin's method. I downloaded the latest SDK bundle, installed latest Motorola drivers, successfully unlocked the bootloader.
I can't seem to get any recovery images to flash correctly at this point, though. When I run "fastboot flash recovery cwmrecovery.img" I get the following output:
Code:
(bootloader) Variable not supported!
target reported max download size of 31457280 bytes
sending 'recovery' (6632 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.519s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 2.363s]
finished. total time: 2.885s
Not sure if "Variable not supported" is a normal message or not, but otherwise it appears to have completed successfully? But when I reboot into recovery mode, I always get the android with a red triangle screen, like this. I have tried flashing shabbypenguin's CWM recovery image, the latest TWRP recovery image, and the stock recovery image linked to in this thread. Same result every time; red triangle screen.
My phone is running the updated OTA build (77.8.10). Is that what is hindering my ability to flash and root successfully? Not sure where else I could have gone wrong. The only other thing I can think of is that before starting with all this, I did have encryption enabled on the phone. But before unlocking the bootloader and attempting to flash CWM recovery, I performed a factory reset to remove the encryption.
UPDATE: it doesn't actually seem like the recovery images are getting flashed at all. At first I thought something was being corrupted (given the red triangle).
But if I press the Up/Down Vol buttons on that screen, I get the Android system recovery utility menu. So if a recovery flash had occurred, this would have been overwritten, right?
I'd be grateful for any suggestions of what to try at this point.
i've never seen that bootloader message before, but it seems like your recovery might be getting flashed back to stock when you reboot. another guy had this issue, you might hopefully be able to solve it by reading this short thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2017748
edit; in short, you could try rooting with Motofail2go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1940594, then use your SU priviledge to rename recovery-from-boot.p to recovery-from-boot.bak,(in /system), then reflash recovery of choice and it should stick.
Thanks yogi! That was indeed my problem as well. I hadn't come across that thread in my initial searching, so I really appreciate your ultra fast response and the sage solution you figured out in the earlier thread. You rock!
Ah, glad that worked for you also! I'm not sure why some people have had to do that, while I don't think I ever did(I have a file named recovery-from-boot.bak, but I don't think I actively renamed it). I am also not sure why we have have an unlockable bootloader, yet without a 3rd-party exploit, some people are getting stuck
In shabbys supersu zip the script had it rename that boot on recovery file. Maybe people are skipping that step after flashing recovery or moto changed the file location and it doesnt match shabbys original script now.

Ah ok, i figured something was renaming that file. The thing is, is there a way to boot straight into recovery from the bootloader? I've always had to boot into the system and then adb reboot recovery.
just hold up like normal after
fastboot reboot
ah yes ok, i guess people should do that after flashing recovery so they can get SU flashed before losing their recovery. and we'll see if Shabby's SU zip still disables that recovery file. i guess that's sort of standard procedure on phones in general, but i don't think i ever did that on this device.
Nice, thanks! Yeah, I was booting back in to system and doing adb reboot recovery as well. The couple blog write-ups I was following weren't clear on that aspect, but then, using the hardware buttons to force it directly to recovery makes perfect since; wondering why I didn't think about that at the time.
Guys!
I have the same problem!
My phone version XT925:
4.1.2
unlocked bootloader
no ROOT
Phone not loading to recovery! so I can't install SU.zip, to get ROOT and rename recovery-from-boot.p.
And because my version 4.1.2 I can't use exploit to get root.

Have you done the hardware key method?
Power + down till phone resets than power + up will you are in recovery?
Otherwise use this command in fastboot(meaning you have SDK tools and you open a command window in platform tools folder):
adb reboot recovery
than the phone should reboot itself into recovery
let us know if you need anything else

This means you have stock recovery.
Flash a custom recovery - TWRP, CWM, OpenRecovery.
If you are having issues with recovery not sticking, there is a thread right below yours which addresses this.
Especially see this post from kabaldan.

great thanks !
Had the same problem trying to flash TWRP to my XT926. Flashing multiple versions of CWM or TWRP gave the same results. (bootloader) variable not supported, but flashing would still appear to proceed ok. However the recovery was always jacked somehow. The only thing that would flash correctly (even with the error) was the stock recovery.
I was using minimal adb & fastboot. Clued in off of a thread off of droid rzr forums (cannot post url due to my new user status) I FINALLY realized I needed to replace the included AOSP binaries with the motorola ones.
Upon replacing the binaries flashing proceeded without error & TWRP was installed & running correctly.
So as this thread came up most of the time when searching for solution to my error, I hope this reply helps.
So, in short double check your version of adb fastboot (or its binaries), your usb drivers, & your recovery is appropriate/ latest update for your phone/ firmware.

Thanks for this tip. I used the fastboot version from Motopocalypse instead of my standard ADB installation version, and the variable message stopped appearing. :highfive:
I was puzzled for days being stuck in endless "Flashing recovery ..."
In the end I decided, after saying 1 hour waiting a hypothetical "success/congrats message", NOT QUITTING the current fastboot screen, to select the recovery option in this very fastboot menu (on a Razr i : Vol- to highlight recovery item, then Vol+ to select) and bang I was in TWRP menu. What to do next once in, it is another story.

[Q] Brick - Can't get cold boot / broken cwm

NB/EDIT : I am pretty sure this is due to cmupdater requiring "next boot" to recovery. Is there any way to get through this?
NB/ EDIT : Now, I can cold boot. But the flash (DD/ fastboot seems not be working. hope better news next hours).
Dear all,
I've googled this unsuccessfully and haven't found any reference in the forum to that combination of two issues...
I have flashed through CWM on my TF700T the 10.6.1.14.4 bootloader. I was previously on CM10.0 stable.
Then, don't ask me why, I tried directly from cmupdater to update to the CM10.1 nightly.
But it seems that my CWM is broken saying
"E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command"
"E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log"
etc...
And I can't even get a cold boot since it seems cmupdater will always point to recovery...
Do you have any ideas or reference?
Thank you a lot...

Thank you elfaure, but I'm not really sure understanding.
I had a fully functional CM10.0 on my tablet. Then I used CWM to flash the newer boot loader and reboot.
Once I was in the system, through parameter, i requested an update of CM to 10.1 nightly.
It rebooted my tablet, and then, entered the CWM, but with the error messages I printed above.
Now, if I try a hard stop (power + volume up) and then a cold boot (power + volume down) then it doens't propose me the options, but directly goes to CWM. And in CWM, I can't move up and down in the menu, neither with my volume keys nor my finger. The only I can do is use power to reboot and then it come again and again to that broken cwm... Please tell me I don't need to return the tablet...

Please take what I say here with a grain of salt as I have no experience with custom ROMs or custom recoveries. But your one saving grace I think would be if you left ADB enabled on your device and have already upgraded your SDK for privileged ADB connections [required for 4.2 only] (if not then you can still do this from the PC end).
If you can get into ADB then I would think you can fix it. If not, then I think you are bricked. From ADB you can push a new ROM or recovery.

This looks like a hard brick. But I have one more idea that you can try:
Download this file and unzip it: View attachment bootit.zip
Then push it to your device:
Code:
adb push bootit.ko /
and run insmod on it:
Code:
adb shell
insmod /bootit.ko
If you are very lucky, your tablet should instantly reboot into Android.

The funny serial number is normal for the recovery.
Try the procedure again and hold down volume-left immediately after pressing "Enter" in adb shell on the insmod command. Maybe you can get to the bootloader menu. If not, I'll try to build another kernel module.
That's so kind of you...
even holding the button volume left didn't worked.
I will send to you my jabber through MP if you do aggree to get this easyer. I promise if this works to make the full summary here.

You're a genius, I can now fastboot and / or cold boot. When I cold boot I have my fully functional previous android. But unfortunately, with flashing with dd on block 4 the cwm, at reboot, i have exactly the same as before...
do you have a link to another bootloader ? or a way to directly flash something else ?
How can I deactivate once booted to android the fact that it boot first to bootloader?

[Q] Brickety Brick

I couldn't leave well enough alone and I f'd up somehow trying to flash my pad to 4.2 stock from Cyanogen with TWRP. Now booting thru vol- and power brings up TWRP only. It asks me for a password, which it never has before. I hit cancel and it puts me into home screen. Only ray of hope I see is that ADB still recognizes it and interacts with it. I've tried pushing every ROM I can get my mitts on to the pad. When I try and install it fails after a few seconds. Then the files I just pushed are no longer on /sdcard. I don't have a clue.
Anyone, anyone? Bueller, Bueller...

Make sure you have flashed the correct version of TWRP. as there are three different versions on their website. If you are confident you have flashed correct TWRP version then you may need to downgrade to the previous version of TWRP. I had a similar issue I downgraded to 2.4.4.0 JB build. Hope this helps
"...you may need to downgrade to the previous version of TWRP."
I can't get into fastboot to install an earlier version. I think I'm screwed.
Theoretically I could use TWRP to totally wipe the pad and then ADB to push the system files back on, but... I don't have that kind of tech knowledge and I doubt anyone who doesn't work for ASUS does.
Edit: My mistake. You can use ADB to install TWRP. I'll give it a shot, though I'm pretty damn sure it's a long one.

I don't get three or four icons. It boots directly into TWRP. ADB still recognizes the pad and I can still push files to /sdcard. I tried reflashing the ROM but it fails after just a couple seconds, shuts down and boots back into TWRP.
I'm going to get a flashcard reader today and format my external card FAT32 and see if I can't install a new ROM from that.
im in a different situation
i did a erase system in fastboot
now i can only go to fastboot with preload on it
or
apx
is there any wait i can fix it and bring it back to live
Update: Bought a card reader at local Discount Electronics. Plugged it into my PC and it promptly froze my computer and destroyed my $80 64G sd card. Can't catch a break here. So I need to get another card and reader before I can attempt to install rom from external card.
The card reader is by a company called Zeikos. http://www.amazon.com/electronics/dp/B001T9N0R6 You have been warned.

if you manage to flash a recovery run the command: fastboot reboot recovery.

You are a god amongst men! Thank you sooooo much. If you don't mind...now what?
I get the following messages:
Key driver not found..Booting OS
Android cardhu-user bootloader <1.00e> released by "WW_epad-10.6.1.15.3-20130416" A03
Starting Fastboot USB download protocol
and then the three icons, RCK android and Wipe Data.
After this mishap I don't trust myself to weed through the mountains of info here again. I'm trying to reinstall 4.2.1 and keep it rooted. I'm assuming reinstall 4.2.1 and then reroot, yes? Would you mind terribly pointing me to a reliable post I can follow.

You will have to reroot but with motochopper that is minor.
Unzip 10.6.1.15.3 till you have a blob file. Place the blob in the directory with fastboot.
Reboot into bootloader and wait for fastboot to start. (watch the upper left of the screen)
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash system blob - wait for the flash to finish then
fastboot -i 0x0B05 reboot
Good Luck!

Reboot into the bootloader. If you get into the bootloader cold boot - volume down on the first icon.
If your tablet fails to boot into android go back to the bootloader and reboot into recovery.
I'll wait for your response.

From off state it always boots into TWRP. I stupidly installed an older version on accident. 2.2.2
With your help I was able to boot into fastboot with the adb command. I've run installs of both the ROM and tried an update to TWRP. According to the console everything went fine but when I give it the reboot command nothing happens. Somewhere in there it looses connections with the tablet it seems.

Excuse my noobishness.
I can get into bootloader with the adb reboot bootloader command you gave me
When I go to recovery, RCK right?, it freezes up.
From cold boot it goes directly into TWRP, which asks for a password which it hasn't ever before this mishap.
If I go to android from bootloader and it goes to TWRP as well

[Q] Bricked TF300T - ADB semi ok, no fastboot, some (strange) options left

I made a really stupid mistake...
The Good Part:
...I flashed my bootloader/blob via fastboot with the latest update from ASUS (TF300T-US_epad-10_6_1_27_5-UpdateLauncher.zip), and at that point no problems. Messed around with the thread that mentioned CWM (regular and JB). Found that I couldn't access the SD Cards with CWM JB, so I tried flashing TWRP.
The Bad Part:
I read everything closely, ..... except the darn file name on the TWRP site, so I ended up flashing the TF300TG by accident, instead of the TF300T recovery.
Here's the sum of what I have left:
- no fastboot (Power + VOL DOWN won't work)
- I read about APX mode (Power + VOL UP???) but no dice there if that is supposed to work
- after i realized I lost fastboot I think I panicked and managed to erase the current firmware, so no OS currently on the device
- I think that I may have killed busybox on the device, and any chance of fully using ADB the normal way to restore ROOT/anything else
- I can get into TWRP recovery
- I can use the ADB connection, but none of the commands that would normally use busybox actually work
- under NORMAL circumstances I can't access the internal memory (/SDCard/ mount) nor can I access the external memory
- I CAN select the option to mount SYSTEM, but the contents of SYSTEM are actually my external SD Card (so I can put files on my device)
Through my hours of googling (and searching XDA) i found a thread for another device that mentioned fixing the mount points. I can't seem to find that thread, but again it was for another device, so the commands would probably be different for all the mount points anyways.
So in a nutshell:
- I can use the basic linux commands (like LS and CD), on ADB and in TWRP command line mode, but no mount or push/pull commands
- I can mount "SYSTEM" from TWRP GUI but the contents of SYSTEM are actually my external SD Card, so I can put files on the device
- I can still use TWRP to CHMOD stuff
--->>> Remaining mounts that seem in tact: (all entries are folders unless specified / anything not specified such as ROOT or SDCARD exists but is blank)

/default.prop and several other files

- /TMP/
/recovery.log (file) ... I think this was an attempt to use TWRP command button to "Copy Log to SD"
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
I know recovering from this is a major long shot, but the good news is, I have all the data backed up, so nothing is actually lost. Granted I have brick, but it's a brick that I can actually play with, and ADB still partially works. I was wondering about manually installing busybox, fixing mount points, etc, so that I could get back to a state of flashing the proper recovery and/or reflashing the bootloader to an older version.
Of course I'm noob enough to not know exactly where to start, with manually reviving busybox, fixing mount points, and using all this to actually push a bootloader or recovery without fastboot ... and I'm hoping desperately that someone will take a little pity (at least enough to see me squirm???)
I'll appreciate any advice at all to help me recover from my stupidity. I know this is a major long shot. Of course, I'm not above paying ASUS a pretty penny to fix it either, but I'd rather learn and better myself before I shell out money.
I've read a few things about letting the battery completely run out when trying to fix some cases of BRICK ... and supposedly that may get you fastboot back, but I'm holding off on that for the time being while it seems that I may still have a shot since I don't exactly have a 100% brick. My device won't stay on, I can shut it off... (i also read that device staying on all the time = brick??)

i tried all fastboot (reflashing recovery, boot, system etc) no dice - especially since writing system was done after 3 secs all the time.
Here how i restored my TF300T JB
download your appropriate lates firmware from Asus (WW, US etc.) and extract the zip twice so you have your blob file
install your device drivers if needed (i used Google SDK ones) (and as a Tip Win8 sucks for Fastboot stuff so try to get Win7 Vista XP for this)
Reset your device with a paperclip/needle (about 2 cm down of your sdcard slot) and hold vol-down to enter fastboot
(the folowing i did at least 10 times already but didn't erase misc)
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase misc
fastboot erase cache
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash system c:\adb\TF300t\blob (this is my path - your's may vary depending where you stored your blob) ((also this was the first time i saw the loading bar while flashing)*
fastboot -i 0x0B05 reboot
* it also took a lot longer as it should:
C:\>fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash system c:\adb\TF300t\blob
erasing 'system'...
OKAY [ 1.695s]
sending 'system' (800935 KB)...

im now setting my tab up to get back to CM (which initially caused this sh1theap due to autoupdate error, same as my A700 got bricked )

If I have helped you in any way, shape or form, hit the thanks button. If I have given you a link to someone on XDA that helped you, give them thanks first.
Hi,
well with wrong twrp it only means your mount points are wrong - so as long as you dont wipe/erase anything within twrp your PITs should be ok.
and with twrp loading you still be able to issue adb commands - have you tried "adb reboot bootloader" while in twrp?
you said you can't boot into fastboot with pressing the keys but using the adb command it should boot into something. Also have you tried getting to fastboot using the reset button?
Whatever you do - do not issue any erase/wipe command while in the wrong recovery.
plaese check if you can get to fastboot either via adb command or reset button. if yes - first flash the correct recovery then i would suggest to see if you can flash stock rom blob to make sure all PITs are ok. from then you can go and flash a custom rom.
and don't try fixing the mount points manually - since they have been changed around a bit by asus from every which version. only if someone has a solution for your FW version you were running you could try it - but i haven't seen one yet for the newer FWs. (i think i remember one for 4.0.4 but that would likly result in a more severe brick than now)
gl
cheers

Successfully unbricked!!!
I can't thank you guys enough!
At the moment I'm able to run the stock 4.2.1. TWRP (the right one) is installed, and all seems to be working. When I did a backup of the stock ROM on TWRP it said FAILED up top, but everything else seemed to go ok. There were 2 other error messages too:
Code:
E:Unable to find partition size for '/recovery'
E:Unable to find partition size for '/boot'
I know usually the recovery and boot aren't messed with when running a custom recovery, so I didn't really worry about it, but I figured I'd post it here just in case.
Now I'm messing around with a few versions of CyanogenMod. I guess I'll try the "failed" backup if neither version of CM wants to work. Since I have fastboot back I can of course re-load the blob from the 4.2.1 stock update.
Seems like the latest stable CM (10.0.0) doesn't work so well on the 4.2.1 bootloader? Or should it matter? Now I'm trying the nightly (10.2) and it loaded up much quicker than CM 10.0
Thanks again guys!

Seems like the latest stable CM (10.0.0) doesn't work so well on the 4.2.1 bootloader? Or should it matter? Now I'm trying the nightly (10.2) and it loaded up much quicker than CM 10.0
Thanks again guys!

Hi,
well with wrong twrp it only means your mount points are wrong - so as long as you dont wipe/erase anything within twrp your PITs should be ok.
and with twrp loading you still be able to issue adb commands - have you tried "adb reboot bootloader" while in twrp?
you said you can't boot into fastboot with pressing the keys but using the adb command it should boot into something.

Buster,
Looking around you are the master with these tablets. I have a question. I am on CM 10.2 I flashed TWRP 2.6.3.0 In my hast I flashed the TF300TG recovery. My tablet always boots straight to recovery but I can't mount anything. I discovered that I can use ADB commands and have it boot to the bootloader. From there I can select the android operating system and the tablet boots and runs as normal. I then tried to flash the correct recovery the same way through terminal emulator on the tablet. It says that it pushed the recovery fine but no change was made. I then tried booting into fastboot and flashing through the computer. As soon as I hit enter the green flashing box around RCK stops flashing and the computer says it was successful but it just sits there. I have to force the tablet to reboot. Reboots right to recovery with no change and I have to use ADB to get back to the bootloader in order to boot the tablet.
Is there another way to get recovery on the tablet? Do you think I'm going to have to redo the whole thing in order to get it working again? Not sure if it matters but in fastboot it says Key driver not found.. Booting OS

try fastboot erase recovery then reflash scannos latest twrp for kitkat from his omnirom thread. (also i think that 2.6.3.0 and above are kitkat recoveries)
this way you are at least sure that your recovery partition is clean.
also I use @scanno omni rom as my daily driver try it. (but bear in mind that without a jb backup you will have to do some work getting jb running again)

So I went into fastboot and and erase recovery. Did it. Then I tried to flash recovery and again it locks up. Rebooted and it went straight to CM 10.2 Tried flashing recovery with terminal emulator. Said it was copied. Rebooted went back to CM. Rebooted again to recovery but it went back to CM. Booted to fastboot again and selected RCK. now it says
Booting Recovery kernel image
Booting failed
Unrecoverable bootloader error (0x00000000)
It does boot to CM but now I have no recovery. OmniRom was the one I wanted to flash but at this point I'm thinking im going to have to start from square one. I just don't understand why it doesn't want to flash a recovery
Thank you for your help, you are the man
strange, which recovery did you try to flash just now? what is the output in fastboot when you flash the recovery there?

I was trying to flash the most current blob from the twrp site. I get the following:
fastboot erase recovery
erasing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 1.965s]
finished. total time: 1.965s
fastboot -i 0x0b05 flashe recovery twrp.blob
sending 'recovery' (6448 kb)...
OKAY [ 2.561s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 2.394s]
finished. total time: 4.955s
When I erase recovery the green flashing box on the tablet keeps flashing. When I try to flash the recovery the box just stops on what ever shade of green it was on when I hit enter. Also after if I do fastboot devices I get:
???????????? fastboot

Sorry, typo. Should have been flash.
So i unzipped the recovery.img file and placed it in my fastboot folder. I get the same results.
fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash recovery recovery.img
sending 'recovery' (6892 KB)...
OKAY [ 2.445s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 2.477s]

The green box stops flashing as soon as I hit enter
Could it be that my recovery partition as gotten messed up, would formatting it help you think. Guess there's only one way to find out.
EDIT: Never mind, can't format a 'basic' filesystem
huh?
fastboot erase recovery
then
fastboot reboot bootloader
then
fastboot flash recovery scannostwrp2.6.3.1
fastboot reboot
then boot into recovery

Still a no go. The only recover on there was a flashable zip file. That's why I was trying to get anything on it so I could flash that. I'm at the end of my knowledge. I've always had Samsung so I got use to odin. Never had to use fastboot. I really appreciate your help. Guess its going to have to run CM10.2 and hope it doesn't have a problem

odin is a bastardisation of standards set by google.
please check the tf300 forum. there is a how to for noobs or smth like that with a script that does all. mb you have more luck with that

Hi Buster,
I have a similar problem, but I cant reach the fastboot. I tried to reset and push volume down, connect tablet to PC with volume down pushed, turn off and start the tablet with the volume down pushed, but nothing. My recovery is corrupted, because it doesnt recognize any file in the SD. I tried to type adb reboot bootloader from the pc, but it says "erro: device not found".
Do you have any idea?

Motorola Photon Q - Crashing all apps, can't erase or flash anything

Good day, its my first thread here, so I'm sorry for my english and terminology.
My Photon Q had CM-13-Nightly installed, bootloader unlocked and Clockwork recovery installed. Everything was working fine, till few days ago. Phone was left unused with drained battery, so I charged it and powerd on. After that, all app started to crash one after another. I was trying to do factory reset from recovery, erase everything from bootloader menu or using bootloader commands (bootloader erase data, bootloader -w) but nothing worked. I still have my system, with same apps, wallpaper etc and apps still crash. Are these all symptoms of damaged partition or internal storage? Will be thankful for any help
Erasing in bootloader/fastboot mode can be dangerous... be careful.
I would just factory reset and reinstall the ROM. Don't use ClockworkMod for recovery tho, use TWRP. CWM hasn't had updates in a long time (and frankly I'm surprised it was able to flash the latest CM).
I have tried to change recovery, but it was also impossible. I also tried to wipe data / factory reset, after that flashed new Rom but nothing changed. Still all my apps and settings remains. There is one more thing to add, that I can copy file from device when connected to my laptop, but cannot delete anything. Anyway, how to change recovery? Phone doesn't keep any changes for example adb debugging in developer options. CWM update is turned off, but cannot change recovery

Boot to fastboot/bootloader mode, 'fastboot flash recovery twrp.img' assuming twrp.img is in the location you are running fastboot flash from...
How did you flash CWM recovery in the first place?
I have bought this phone with Cyanogen Recovery and Custom ROM flashed already. I tried what You posted, it shows that TWRP is flashed, but when I enter recovery again, I still have Cyanogen. I tried with 3 different versions of TWRP downloaded for Photon Q... I also don't know what does it mean "(bootloader) Variable not supported!"

I think you can safely ignore the bootloader message.
As for flashing TWRP, did you boot TWRP immediately after flashing, or did you boot Android?
I believe you need to make sure you boot TWRP immediately after flashing, otherwise CM Recovery will blow it out.
After flashing TWRP hold power until the device shuts off, release, and now hold power + vol down to enter recovery. Please use the latest version of TWRP from kabaldan, or the latest official TWRP.
I did exactly as You have posted. Still Cyanogen :/ I got recovery from here: https://dl.twrp.me/asanti/twrp-3.0.2-0-asanti_c.img.html , its the newest I think

Sorry it's power + vol UP (according to my own guide...)
3. Hit power - device turns off. Hold vol up + power, then release power when the screen comes on - continue holding vol up. When you see the moto logo dim a bit, release vol up. You should now be in TWRP!
Did that - Cyanogen again :/ Have any idea why is that happening? Internal memory broke down?

I'm not sure why people have issues with this... I always thought it was how they 'completed' the flashing process. I don't recall being able to reproduce the condition.
Perhaps boot Android then boot TWRP? Or try to reboot directly to recovery from the fastboot cli? Try something different... or just fastboot boot the TWRP image? There is a problem in the process, I'm just not sure 'where' since I don't have the phone in front of me.
Already done that, before I started this thread... Nothing works. I have tried multiple combination, such as reboot to this (I don't know how to name it, B&W menu with APfastboot, recovery etc), boot system first than recovery, boot directly to recovery after flashing new one etc. Are there any fastboot commands, that I could use to forcefully erase recovery or data? You sure that it's not physical damage of internal memory?

IIRC this device will let you 'fastboot boot' images directly - I think I suggested this - have you tried it?
I'll dig around and see what else I can find from the TWRP thread. I was pretty sure it had to do with the process, but I could be mistaken.
Edit - I'll flash CM Recovery on my old Q and see if I can recreate this as well. It's always bothered me...

I guess they only allow fastboot booting kernels... at least I used to do that on this device.
So I just flashed CM Recovery no problem. Going to flash back TWRP.
Is there anything I can do now to put this phone back to work?

I'm... kind of at a loss. Make sure you have the latest TWRP. I just downloaded the latest CM Recovery, fastboot flash recovery <cmrecimg> and it rebooted to Android on its own. I reboot to recovery, CM Recovery is installed. All good.
I reboot to bootloader mode, grab the latest official TWRP, fastboot flash recovery <twrpimg>, this time when I unplugged it was still in fastboot mode. So I hit the power button, phone turns off. Then I hold power + vol up until I see the screen turn on. Continue to hold vol up, but release power. Then when the screen dims (or when recovery starts if you can't tell) release vol up.
Maybe that'll help you? Good luck.
Did exactly the same procedure as You described. Still Cyanogen. I can even record it and send here...
Could You please send me a link where I can find another TWRP ( You mentioned some developer few posts above, I guess), differend that I have found?
