Call Recorder? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys... i have a moto G that came with Android 4.3 and Call recording was working perfectly using the app Automatic Call recorder.
Now the phone auto updated to 4.4.2 and the call recorder has stopped working... and i have tried about 15 different call recorder apps but none seem to work. They manage to record the mic... but not the speaker.
Im on Stock 4.4.2 and unrooted.
Also Call recording is legal where i am so no need to worry.

Kit kat wont record calls with any program from line on this device; it did with JB perfectly. Idk why

The only one expected to work is Callrecorder, but you need to be root and on a CM rom.
Settings fixed to Moto x and CAF. It's supposed to work but I can't assure because I'm on Unrooted stock rom.
¿Could anybody test for us and share results?

Yea I tried this app as well but as you said I think it needs root... Not sure about the CM thing... But it doesn't work on stock unrooted...
Don't really want to unroot or change ROMs for now... But question is has kitkat actually been changed natively to stop call recording...?

No, is not a question of KitKat, because I have other devices running kitkat and I can record calls without problems.
I don't know who is the black hand that has disabled this option on Moto G under KitKat...
I am thinking seriously on coming back to Stock JellyBean.

Are you sure its recording both ways of the conversation...?? Input and output...?? Because seems you only made a small clip. Most apps do record the mic and if you volume is loud enough it, the mic will also catch some of the incoming convo as well if its quiet enough...
But being able to actually record the proper incoming sound feed is what's the issue.
Please confirm this and let us know the result...

I can confirm that after someone call me, or i call... But i think is working, because sound in my 'test' was clear on both sides. It was not only my voice loud and clear, and other was not only something in behind...
You can try it too

Now i can confirm it...
Both sides are loud and clear... But time shown near recording on 'main screen' is wrong... My last call was more than 10s long, and time shown is only 1s.

Good to know, but I decided to downgrade to 4.3 because I didn't want to unlock the bootloader and lose warranty... Thankfully we can do that... But annoyingly the phone will ask to update every day... Don't know if that can be turned off...
Also I read in the description that the call recorder in the thread is only a trial... You need to buy the app eventually... And can't make online play transactions where I am...

I got myself recently upgraded to much hyped MotoG 4.4.2, 16gb, Dual sim. Phone. I am shocked to find that none of the recording apps are working which were working on my earlier Sony phone. I need this facility badly. Just because of this reason i have started disliking this phone.
Anyone please suggest me pointers to documented steps to get call recorder working ?. I don't want to root this phone and loose warranty. I need this facility badly.

Well unfortunately there is no way or form to get call recording to work on KitKat at all, whether you root or not. The only thing you can do is downgrade the software back to 4.3
Having said that there are various apps that say the recording is working on 4.4, but that's BS. What's working is only mic recording, not proper 2 way recording.

Please give me the documented procedure you used for downgrade. Did you notice any side-effect due to this downgrade?. Was any functionality broken ? Please help. How long will it take for downgrading ?. Any precautions/backup i need to take. Sorry if they are trivial questions.
TIA

There is no effect on the phone itself, except your going to an older firmware which is not as good as the newer software by rule of thumb. But nothing which is really a deal breaker. It is just unruly that for once there is a phone that gets regular immediate updates, but your forced to use old outdated firmware which is missing new added features.
Having said that, you mentioned you are using the dual sim moto G, so I'm not 100% sure if they phone launched on 4.3 or directly on 4.4. IF it launched with KitKat, then sorry you cannot downgrade. If it launched in JB 4.3, then you can, by downloading the factory image which is about 350mb. The procedure itself takes about 15 mins if you know what your doing... Takes about 45 mins if you dont.
Just search xda for a factory flashing thread specific to your phone, I'm sure there should be one. It will have all steps listed.
Be advised tho... When downgrading the firmware, ALL data on the phone will be erased... Both system AND the SD partition. So yes you will need to backup your imp stuff.

When I was interested on that feature I usually used an app called Callerrecorder or something like that. By then it worked fine, I dunno if still being avalaible or updated btw...

Can anyone please confirm if a call recording apps work on new update 4.4.4 kitkat update on Moto G (16GB version).
This feature was working on 4.3 and was broken on 4.4.2. When i checked with Motorola Customer support executives on chat, few days back they asked me to wait for the next update.
Can anyone confirm if any of the call recording apps are working ?

Call record working on infuse!

Using the stock povided kernel with the UCKI4 leak I have sucessfully recorded incoming and outgoing call with both voices. Most apps only worked with the speaker phone on but this seems to work internally. Have not checked to see if it is a battery hog yet either. I got it from one of the I1900 roms I was playing with and I think it is still on the market also?
I take no credit for the app or the rom. Just that I found that it does work. Testing has been limited so please also post your results if you do try it......
Thanks. Been waiting for Google Voice phone numbers to open up here in Alaska so I can record my calls. Sounds creepy when I write this but with my line of work I have to occasionally reference conversations. I'll let you know ow it works.

Nice to know I am not the only one from the great white north
thank you, ive been looking for something similar to this, i like how you can make it incognito and you dont have to see it running all the time.
I have a couple of companies that keep calling me after repeatedly asking to have me taken off of their call list so NOW i will record it and save a couple of them and if they dont stop i wil forward them to my lawyer! In the state of Texas only one person in the conversation has to know the call is being recorded to be legal. (obviously i know i am recording my own calls) now if someone uses my phone and they do not know about the app on there i would not legally be aloud to use the conversation in court. (as per my lawyers information)

OK so this modem does in fact work with call recording. Awesome! I tried for weeks to get an app to record the digital input from the other caller to no avail not realizing that the modem was the issue. However this app you posted does not (for me anyways) record anything but the audio coming over the speaker. What is working for me on the digital recording front is an app called total recall. It has an auto feature that finds the best recording setup. Option 3 or 4 worked best for me. But it does record both sides of the conversation without using the speaker.
EDIT **
Looks like only outgoing calls work properly. On any incoming call the caller cannot hear me until I go click speakerphone twice, and then recording uses the microphone, meaning is does not sound very good.

Any updates for call recording? I use the MIUI port 2.1.6
There is an icon for "record" in the dialer but it is greyed out.
I live in the state of Indiana where, as long as one party in a conversation is aware, either phone calls or personal conversations can be recorded. So it's 100% legal.

Hi. Came across this site and been going through it and love what I see. I enjoy this call recording. Works well on my Infuse 4g. Thanks
Are there any updates on this? Do I have to root and load a custom rom? I have tried the app and it seems that no matter what app I use, when it starts the call, the other party can't great me until I do the speakerphone on then off trick, but when I do that the quality of the recording is pretty much gone. Have to transfer it to computer and put the columns at like 500% to great anything.

I'm not sure about your phone. I see that you are on Roger's. I'm assuming that it is 2.3.3.
If you are still stock, I would suggest calling Roger's support.
I'm using modified unofficial firmware (MUF), rooted deodexed 2.3.6 UCLB3. Once I downloaded and install the apk, it runs in the background. Every time I made a call, it is recorded in a sound file. It sounded fine to me.
Anyway, sorry I can't help more.
If anyone wants a kinky recorded phone call, let me know. I'm selling them for $1 per download. It features Bigjoe using the Note, oldbbman using the SG3 and THE AMAZING JESSICA WABBIT on the Infuse, running AEON. Sorry folks..no videos available.

hey,
think everyone got this since the update. We had some posts on this in the german android help forums.
I mailed motorola, they said I should try a factory reset.. which didnt help (so you dont have to try).
I mailed them again and they said they forward that error to the technicians. So when I here something about this I post it here !
Please post all questions in the Q & A section. Thanks! Thread moved.

My MZ608-32 have the same problem after I upgrade to ICS, only sound on one speaker, I try to factory reset two times and nothing, in some aplications the lower speaker function with very low volume at example some YouTube videos. With readphones both sides work fine.
In my MZ607 from Brazil I have same bug. But I like so much this bug, with it I send my MZ607 for warranty and probably I get my money back. And get unlock bootloader tablet.
Not Good
I have a Xoom 2 ME and since updating to ICS, I too, have the same sound problem. Do you all think it is worth us clubbing together and sending a mass e-mail to Motorola and see if we can get some form of OTA update to fix the problem? We are only getting half the speakers working and we paid for them ALL to work!
Has anyone got a place we can send such error reports to?
Many Thanks in Advance

Let's see what will be the excuse this time...
Hi guys.
I found a workaround for this bug. For now im using some Tasker profiles to change the speakers configuration when the screen orientation is changed, but i plan to write an app to do this automatically. Root is needed to workaround this bug, and permanent rom changes aren't necessary so it doesn't break OTA updates.
In not sure why motorola disabled this feature on the ics update, it works ok here, a "pop" can be heard when the screen is rotated, maybe thats their reason...
Hi, it would be great to make the speakers work again.
Regards.

At least the Xoom 2 ICS works well.

[REQUEST] Touch screen calibration

Hi,
Just wondering if any devs will come across this thread since I was hoping that they can make somehow a touch screen calibration app for the z1 since it really has touch issues. You may refer to the thread found in the sony forums and youtube to see how worse is the issue.
Touch screen fails to recognize touches and its really annoying that it affects the daily use and you cant use your phone when gaming..
I really hope someone kind will help me out as this will also be a great help to other people who have the same exact problem.
Many thanks.

Is there a difference between your flashable zip and the one here in the forums? my model is c6903 LTE. will it affect my phone since I'm using what's designated in my country. Or if that did not solve the issue can I use SUS to revert back to my original firmware?
EDIT ADD: so you do have before the touch issue when using the phone during games and when its flat on a surface in which the phone stops registering touches?

I just merged 259's system in flashable .257 zip.
You can uncheck all "Wipe:" and uncheck Kernel only and check all others in "Exclude:" to prevent overwriting your system or baseband.
I'm using C6903 UK LTE, I flashed my zip and kernel only and I can still use LTE on .259 with no problem.
Yes, you can always use SUS or Flashtool to reverting back.
My issue was during games.

Thanks for the detailed explanation mate, I'll send a pm also to you later. I'll try what you have said by the time I got home. I hope it works. For the mean time, may I ask a favor? can you please try placing your z1 on a flat surface and try running the service test to see if the problem is really solved since the issue is very hard to replicate. Several tries/attempts are needed.
First try placing your phone on top of a paper, then on a pillow and last is on a flat table.
Sorry to trouble you but you really got my hopes up for my ****ty z1.

Thanks mate, been waiting for your reply as I'm refreshing the page once in a while. Have you tried continuous lines or scribble since that triggers the problem when you're using the screen continuously without lifting your finger.
Sorry if I'm really bothering you but I really just have to confirm and once this fixed the problem, I can share your tip to the guys at the sony forum so that they will be freed from the touch screen curse. I really appreciate your help and effort.

Thanks dude, I've been trying to replicate the issue by swirling and swirling until the line is broken. I'm itching now to try to flash what you have told me and I hope it works.
Thank you very much for your time and effort. oh By the way, before you flash the .259 is the problem extreme or very persistent?

Yep, that's my main gripe with the touch issue as it loses touch and returns again. I'll try what you have told me at home then if it works or not I'll get back to you.
I'll be holding on to what you have said that the touch problem is not there anymore since you flashed .259 :good:
users on .259 reported that their touchscreen issue was not solved even after updating to .259
Really sucks since my problem gets from worse to worse day by day

I made flashable zip for myself, but I think flashing 259's kernel is enough.
There are too many bloatwares... haha

So your saying that flashing the 259 kernel alone would be enough to eradicate the touch screen issue? Don't really want to flash another rom but it is annoying.

From Customer Support at service center, we had an email conversation. if this is the case then why did Sony not include this in the update?

If you get it then put it out here, let the community benefit.
As for customer support, i emailed them about the bootloader issue with people who have a status of No and the response was just like i was speaking with a robot, i asked is there a way around it and that the previous response was neither helpful nor educational and I got another of the same responses, i've sent a third email asking if they just copy and paste an email from a list and if I don't get a human response with at least a glimmer of hope then i'll be boycotting Sony for life and i'll make sure everyone knows how poor their services are.
I've never asked them a question in my life, I did mention that and this is the response I get, lol forget that, I've learnt a few lessons from getting this phone, first one being never buy a sony again and second, always check if the bootloader is unlockable and not locked because of a networks request.

[Q] Any word on screen capture/recording apps or any solution for it?

I recently ran into a thread here:
reddit.com/r/Android/comments/1tilcf/any_word_on_screen_capturerecording_apps_or_any
and unfortunately for me, I'm running 4.3 and adb shell didn't seem to recognize screenrecord command. I check the Play Store and all the apps seem to be useless since 4.1 (some updated only to 4.2 maybe) and newer phones since Galaxy S3, Note 2, etc.
So I was wondering if there is any news. Cheers!

Hello there, regarding to your question, there really isnt a "good" capture or recording app for android yet. Most on the google play store are poor and scams. I suggest you do more research. There maybe one.

So you don't know if anyone's developing a decent recording software? I just tried a bit of SCR screen recorder but after one recording, my phone just crashes and it seems that I'm not alone in this looking at the reviews of screen recording apps. I didn't have such a problem when I was using 4.0... What changed?

Probably your phone crashed because of overload or poor ram management (screen recorders use a lot of ram) BTW what do you exactly mean by your phone crashed, did the application crash or the entire phone?

The entire phone, but my phone has problems. I've had a history of bad flashes (GS3 currently running Slim Bean with Cyanogen kernel). However, I've tried with Nexus 7 2013 as well and it's not working too pretty on that either (stock). As mentioned previously, if you look at the reviews in the screen recording apps, they will complain about the apps not working too well on 4.3 and 4.4. Slim Bean is 4.3 at the moment and I just can't wait to use 4.4's ADB screen capture. That would really solve a lot of things and really, no need for apps.

Maybe if your phone still has problems, you may want to flash the stock rom and start from there. (Often, the stock rom is the stablest) One more thing, is recording on your phone very important to you?

I'm not sure if it works on 4.3, so my suggestion might be entirely useless, but a friend of mine uses SCR Screen Recorder for his tutorials. The device we use runs 4.1.2, so like you said, it might not work. Figured I'd throw my .02 in.

I just gave up on custom ROMs and decided to just stick with the stock ROM instead. I'm just going to get rid of the TouchWiz UI. Neither Hyperdrive nor GPE 5.0 worked unfortunately. The GPE ended up with boot loops. Hyperdrive booted, but wifi + phone radio didn't work.
Recording on my phone is okay now, but I'm still looking for a good method for future reference. Well, recording was for my Galaxy S3 and I was trying to make S3 tutorials so it's far too late now. My problem with the ROM is S4, which is also somewhat dated, so recording isn't really necessary for it either. Thanks for asking.

I thought call recorder is made by people from xda but nevermind. I really wonder why did it work on earlier version of android.
buy Total Recall from playstore.. It's very good and stable in recording voice call In and Out...
Make sure you purchase it to unlock the full feature and unlimited recording time. Worked in all Lollipop versions.
There is only one worth getting. Its £8 and record off the line. I have it and it works perfectly with kk, and all the ? updates. I'd get that. The Dev is very helpful and will sort issues out within the hour it uses CAF method but will use others. Most, even paid use the speaker.
