my proximity sensor has been acting up since the 4.3 OTA update, my screen stays black after calls, sometimes after screen time outs and I normally have to wait awhile before it'll turn back on, The infra red light for the proxy sensor stays on as well, it used to just blink occasionally. and yes I can see the infra red light, first sensor to the right of the speaker, for those of you who cant see it try looking at it with a camera and it'll become visible. since this seems to control my screen even while not making a call I need to disable it or calibrate it, I have already disabled it at phone, call settings, turn off screen during calls.

The option has been removed from 4.3 OTA, there's no way to calibrate them. Also none of the third part apps are compatible with this. :crying:

I find this behavior of my touch pro irritating and stupid. The screen goes off during coversation. We all know that. And we know that we can tweak it via the registry not to go off at all.
But WHY can't it just act like my wife's iPhone does? The iPhone turns the screen off during conversation by using the LIGHT DETECTOR. So when you put it near your ear screen goes off and immediately returns when you move the phone away from your ear. I am using my wife's iphone a lot and I can say this behavior works excellent, flawless and so much better than the Touch Pro, where it's either goes off and I have to click on a button each time to turn it on again. Or just leave the LCD on even I talk for half an hour. Did anyone fix that ?
Look for Touch InCall Screen Tweak.
Check the options for:
"Ignore Light Sensor"
"Ignore First Screen Off"
and I believe it'll work how you want it to.
unless one talk for a long time turning on and off the lcd backlight would most likely use more power then having it on during the call these devices don't have led backlight or use oled
so there is still a neon backlight type of thing I believe
and they use most power when turning on

I just want to second this. The behavior you describe really annoyed my about my fuze as well, when I had been using a Samsung Eternity that operated similar to the iPhone (detected when it was at your ear to turn off screen).
Get the program mindfrost said, it works like a charm! You can even make the phone automatically turn to speakerphone when you sit it face down mid-call, and go back to normal when you pick it back up! It's an excellent add-on.
I don' understand one thing. Why do we check Ignore Light Sensor? I have the program, my phone now works like an iphone with the settings you described but that option is throwing me for aloop
I went to the thread for the app and found that the app is working a bit different than I thought. I do enjoy this app. Nuts that this isn't an out of the box type behaviour.
the iphone doesnt use the ambient light sensor, it uses the proximity sensor which the touch pro doesnt have. if you tilt it up to the sunlight you can see 3 black spots on the iphone. one that is the light sensor, a proximity beam and sensor. it can tell if an object like your face is too close to use the screen and turns it off during a call.

Thanks for all replies. I will try Touch InCall that you guys suggested.
Jack : I didn't know that. That seems like a smart thing to do, better than using the light sensor I wonder why the HTC guys didn't think about that being that the HTC devices are more expensive, newer and should have better tech. Oh well
I'm a bit curious why everybody wants their screen to remain on while they are talking on the phone. Do you like to press the screen with your cheek while you're talking? What do you need to look at the screen for? I've always had the option of turning the screen off while talking enabled.

I don't think anyone is saying that - they want the screen to turn off when the phone is against their face, and turn on if the phone is moved, to type in numbers, take notes, etc.

I guess the impression I got from the Tilt (which doesn't have a light sensor) and the users of the Tilt, they didn't like the screen to blank during a call. I always turn my screen off with the power button if I have to while I'm on the phone so I never understood why they wanted it to stay on.
I think the problem with using the photo sensor reading is that if it is dark, you'll never get the screen to turn back on, even if you pull the phone away from your ear.
On the Raphael/Touch Pro perhaps the improved screen sensitivity and the non-bezelled screen makes for ear shenanigans while ear mashing.
I could get away with ear mashing on the Tilt and the Wizard.
What if you are using bluetooth in the car?
My Galaxy S has a problem with the Light Sensor, every time i make a call my phone freezes or black screen, I tried running some sensor tests but also does same when i try the light sensor, so that must be it. have this problem for a year, at first i thought it was the proximity sensor.
When my headphone is plugged in, i dont have this problem because the light sensor wont interfear then.
I want to disable the startup of the light sensor,
I already setup ADB, so im ready to push and pull, but i don't know wich file i need to edit. remove a # here and there
Can anyone tell how wich file it is?
Got inspired by :

Sure its not the proximity sensor? Cause I got the same problem. When I accept a call screen goes black, the upper bar is visible and after a while the screen turns off. Im ceratin that is a problem with the proximity sensor or not?
Same here, yeah think its the proximity, but my light sensor also doesn't function properly, auto brightness adjustment doesnt work also.
Very anoying problem.
Hello everybody. Firstly I'd like to sorry but my English is poor. Ok, so what's going on? One day I saw that 4 touch buttons don't have backlight. So I tought it could be that light sensor. I've gone to the display settings and I set up auto brightness. And nothing has changed... No matter where I go, brightness doesn't change at auto. And this no backlight of 4 touch buttons... My question is: what it could be? What is wrong with my HTC? Could it be software issue or rather hardware?
the autobrightness setting your messing with is for the backlight of the screen, not the 4 buttons. as for the 4 buttons, what kernel and rom are you on? newer xe kernels have brightness setting for the buttons (if its bright outside itll turn off, if its dark then itll turn on). does the backlight of the 4 buttons never work or just sometimes?
I use stock 1.50~~ ROM with stock htc kernel. Sometimes (as now for example) 4 buttons backlight works, sometimes not, it's lottery... Now there is working also light sensor. I woke up today and it has been working, but since monday to yesterday it didn't work. Strange issue...
Try check tour sensors with androsensor from Market/Google Play.
It shows you whats sensors do work.
Light sensor is at the top left hand side of the phone at the front beside the speaker. Put your thumb over it and see if the buttons light up. If they do light sensor is working!
My sensors are still not working to all the time.
I did edit the build.prop with this line at the botten:
ro.mot.buttonlight.timeout=0
Reboot 2x
Wich helped .
But now its gone again,it drives me nuts
There is shortcut for light sensor check, for example on Samsung i9001 I can use *#*#0588#*#* - Proximity sensor test
hope this can help

And what should happen ?
Tried it,nothing.
Thanks tho.
Do you have it in a case? I put mine in a gel case and although it didn't appear to block the sensor I was finding that when I finished a call the screen didn't light up again. I trimmed the case so that it had much more clearance around the sensor and it works well now.

Is your proximity sensor working during calls?
Not for me
(Ps.factory reset in total dark worked till reboot)
Did anyone figure this out?
I bought a used phone for a great price but my light sensor and proximity sensor dont work. Confirmed with androsense.
I would really like to just have the buttons light up all the time when the screen is on. Anyone know how to make that possible?
I have this problem: I use AcDisplay as lockscreen since I bought my M2 (like 2 week ago), and I have activated the option of "Active lockscreen" (automatically turn on the screen when I take my cell of my pocket). Everything was fine until last night, when I took my cellphone out of my pocket while the screen was off and I discover that it was some kind of red light next to the LED notification light of the phone. I tried rebooting the cell twice but the problem persisted. The only way I found to solve it was to turn off the option of "Active lockscreen" of AcDisplay, but I think it was something very useful and I want to have it back (without the red light of course).
Do you know how to solve this?
The red light you saw was proximity sensor. AcDisplay use proximity to make active lock screen works. So, it's normal.
I've just got this device 3 days ago~ And i noticed that my led notification light hasnt been consistent or light up at all unless i use Light Flow but even with Light Flow its still inconsistent. I'm on stock KitKat 4.4.4 never rooted etc. Pulse notification led is on.
Without lightflow it just doesn't light up at all for applications like whatsapp, wechat, games(Does the led light up for games too?). Whenever i receive a phone calls however it lights up white for a split second and then it turn itself off.. If i don't pick it up, it doesn't light up to show me that i have a missed call either, but when i turn the screen on, it lights up for a split second and then turn itself off again.
Using lightflow , i haven't get to try it with whatsapp yet but for charging and phone calls it works great but for wechat it only works if i have the screen on. If the screen is off nothing lights up and when i turn on the screen by pressing the power button and then put it to sleep again it works. I have the run in foreground on,Reduce wake on(not sure if i need that), and Nexus 5 force LED Reset.
Also since i'm already here, how long does it takes for google to fix the lollipop if at all? Should i update it to see if the led works on lollipop? Does OTA update introduce problems and bugs? Sorry if my questions are too long and my english is bad.
