That's about the price for the original cover. You won't really find it that cheap cause I believe the original cover has either NFC or a wireless charging chip infused to it. If you look at the back cover you'll see it has some metal connectors on the inside.

If you decide to change the battery cover and neglect to replace it with an OEM battery cover then of course an LG technician will know that you're using an aftermarket battery cover and it will in fact void your warranty.
Its just like any car you buy from the dealer. Even if you change the radio it will void your warranty. Everything must be factory spec! So what you can do is whenever you want to take it in for warranty simply switch the battery cover back to the original one and they'll never know.

Does anyone know where to find a (hopefully cheap) replacement battery cover?
Ebay had them for about $15.

Much appreciated, but I can't buy on eBay. Been eBurned too many times.
globaldirectparts(dot)com has them for $28.46.
$14.99, but currently out of stock.

It would be a good excuse to buy the big extended battery that comes with a cover.
I knew someone would say that.
I just can't do it. I like the current shape and my seido case is so sexy!
Thanks for the input though!

Nowhere. You can't.
Nowhere. Yet....
I imagine it will start popping up on supply websites a few weeks after launch. But wireless charging/NFC will make a straight swap difficult, as those are glued to the back and will likely NOT be included on a replacement.
I'll be keeping an eye out though, I love the white color. I just don't want to lose qi charging/NFC for a color swap though.

All the replacement backs on third party sites are visibly missing the Qi coil needed for charging. For example- http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-lg-nexus-4-e960-battery-door.html
You would need to use a heat gun to remove the "sticker" from the original door and reapply it to the replacement.
Not saying you won't be able to buy one with everything included, but most for sale only include the physical back with no additional hardware. Which means a straight swap with one of those would remove qi charging and (I think) NFC.

Yeah once you remove the back and place a third party back, hardly ever come with the NFC coil which is also used for wireless charging, will no longer enable you to use NFC or Wireless charging.
You could try to take it off but its hard. Since its heavily glued which could also lead to a risk of breaking the original back cover.

Yup, if any of us want white backs it is going to be difficult to just buy a replacement part. Either you need a heat gun and a prayer, or go without wireless charging and nfc.
It will peel off & stick on new back...

Does anyone know of or can recommend a nice wireless charging station for the S5? I'm glad the phone is dust/water proof, but messing with that micro USB cover my get old after a while. Plus, it could break off. I haven't used wireless charging since my Palm Pre days so I have no idea what's out.

I've got 2 of them that I use on my Note 3 with wireless charging cover (1 at home, 1 at work) - they're both great.
I bought one off Amazon for ~$40 and another for ~$25 on some daily deal site. Well worth the investment to not have to futz around with cables.
Only thing I see so far is that Samsung isn't offering the wireless charging back for the S5 yet; with the Note 3, it took them a month or two after launch to put them online for purchase and even then, they were backordered.

I've got a close friend who works at the samsung experience shop within the local best buy and he had training last week on the s5 and its accessories. He said they are expecting the charging back in store within a week of launch. Good news is the first one that come in has my name on it so hopefully I dont have to contend with too much.
If you get a wireless charging back does it make the phone too thick for traditional 3rd party cases. What I want to do is get a wireless charging back plate and then put a case around the whole phone. Is that possible?

I had an S4 (and Note3) with wireless charging back covers and cases on both...SOME cases work.
For the S4, I was able to use Cruzerlite TPU cases with no problem. Any of the hard cases didn't work for me (Spigen) and I even tried the multi-piece cases (TPU + hard bumper) but the only ones that worked were Cruzerlite TPU.
In fact, I'm so sure that the S5 will work with Cruzerlite and a wireless charging back cover, I already bought a new case.
I'm gonna keep on the Best Buys for a wireless charging back and charger. Gonna get a white phone and black backplate. Mmmm sexy.

It's samsung's way of making more money, i prefer a receiver insert, it's thinner and i've been using them with all my phones.
I will be picking a few up in the next few days in china, need to check what the quality is like.

Really??? I got one for my S4 and it was awful - so thick that the case bulged out in the middle of the back...so much that the phone didn't lay flat on the table anymore.
Even though the Samsung battery cover is a little thicker overall, at least it's symmetrical and doesn't look home-made.

Wireless Charging Pad mini $39.99
Wireless Charging Pad $59.99
Galaxy S 5 Spare Battery Charging System $49.99
Galaxy S 5 Wireless Charging Cover, White $29.99 (Also available in Black it says)
Most important thing of course we ALL want to know with these Qi-charging covers are: "The Wireless Battery Cover was designed by Samsung to seamlessly match the look and feel of your Galaxy S 5 ensuring that your phone maintains its original style and slim profile. In addition, Samsung has incorporated sealing rubber into the battery cover to retain the Galaxy S 5’s water resistance."
Please sticky this at least for the first quarter as it is a list of the Official products.

Im hoping this little line in their description means that the wireless back wont add too much to the phone to prevent the use of normal cases.
Here's the link to the black wireless back, just needed to change the W to a B in the product number =)
We need to know if it adds bulk and if standard cases can be used. I have a QI charging pad that I use with an insert in my S3. I'm guessing my charging pad will work with this back?

Wonder if they will have any price drops or a coupon code to score these cheaper. I might have to go w/the insert if the covers add bulk.

Damn, didn't think of that. I hope some company takes that into consideration. Sammy should have made wireless charging standard on this phone but it looks like they want to make more off of accessories.

Yep. Another money making ploy. If the nexus 7 can do it, Samsung could certainly do it.
Problem is, even the thinnest wireless adapter creates somewhat of a bulge, which could ruin the water resistant seal

If samsung starts making them standard out of the box, then it's standard size and any case will fit, even the water resistant seal.
so there won't be people asking questions, will this bulge or will this case fit as with the S3, S4, note 2 and note 3. but as usual it will never happen with samsung at present, may be in the near future.
Like the Note 3, with the wireless charger you won't see the bump where the camera lens are. It will be flat which is a good thing for me.
Hello does anybody know if the s5 wireless charging cover adds thickness like the s4 one did? As in cases wont fit?
am I missing something here or have people simply not read the description?

Yes. Most places will have them on the 11th. Check amazon, mobile fun and usual places.
words matter
The problem is that "original style and slim profile" is inexact and open to interpretation. Proper wording would be helpful. Something like "original style and exact form factor" or "identical physical specification" or even ""will not affect fitment with standard phone cases"....words matter.
Any one want to put money the wireless charging case will be thicker? There has to be some extra depth to accommodate the charging coil. On the standard back I can't see Samsung deliberately make back thick so it lines up with the wireless one.

So I know some people out there at first hated the port cover. As being one of them, I initially removed it. Then after seeing countless threads about how you can't do the trade in without it or that you will be charged for it. I looked into replacement parts. At this point it was to early, so I left it alone. Now after some time I looked back into it.

Now I know it doesn't sound like a big deal, but this is for the people who did remove it.

Honestly just buy a few of these for a few bucks a piece. Remove the battery cover and you can replace it taking out 1 screw by the battery slot.
No one will ever be able to tell as long as the door is an OEM part and you don't strip/mangle the screw or something crazy as warranty still intact.
