Rooting without SD Card? - General Questions and Answers

Is it possible to root my S4 mini without an SD Card?
-Weekend

I dont own your device but generally speaking, it should be possible. but if you want a custom rom, you'll need an external space to put your system image.

it should be possible to do that with adb by sending the files directly into the phone with the recovery menu, you should check the tutorials for that

[Q] Rom Manager and internal storage....

It seems that Rom Manager wants to use internal storage but recovery wants to use my external SD card. When I back up my phone from Rom Manager it reboots into CWM and backs it up on the SD card. When I go back into Rom Manager to manage backups it doesn't see it because its looking in the internal storage. If I download a rom from Rom Manager it downloads it to internal storage and when it reboots to CWM it can't find the rom because its not on the SD card.
What am I doing wrong? How do I get this to work properly?
I am experiencing the same exact problem. I can not download roms to the external SD. It a freaking hassle to download and flash a rom on this phone. Any help is appreciated.
I am not even sure I can flash a rom with it. The couple times I tried it failed because I chose the rom through the /externalSD directory and thats linked from within the internal storage.
How is everyone else using it?
I copy the files from the internal and put them in the same directory on the SD card. For example the folder internally is /sdcard/clockworkmod.. i just move that directory to /sdcard/_externalsd/clockworkmod
that way when you reboot everything is already work CM is naturally looking for it. Yes.. it's a pain.
Alternatively.. when I had my G2 i got into the habit of just moving the roms to the root of the sdcard so it was easier to flash right from cwm (I rarely flash via rom manager). Nandroid backups HAVE to stay in the backup folder in the clockwork directory tho.
I found out with boat browser mini I set the download dir to /mnt /sdcard/_ExternalSD and my roms actually download to the root of my SD without errors. That's a start its a lot easier than hooking up to a computer and moving stuff around
Sent From from my G2X
It seems that this would be a normal feature to come with such a product. It makes more sense to have access to the ext. sd card than not.
Maybe there is a very good reason for it? I.e. It can't be done?

Click to collapse
Same here.
This is a bit of a pain.
Instead of moving backup files across, I restore directly from the recovery screen.
As for ROMs I have to download them directly from my laptop and copy them the external SD card.
Not good.

[Q] Save Apps Data to External SD card jellybean????

I have a samsung galaxy young s6312, stock android 4.1.2, rooted.
Now I know that i can move apps to sd card with the help of directory bind, link2sd, etc.
But i have only 300 MB free internal memory & I want to download Asphalt 7(1.13 GB)
So I dont even have enough free internal memory to download the game first and then move it to sd card.
I want to save the app data DIRECTLY to my external sd card, as I do not have enough free internal memory to download it to my internal memory.
Plz give me a detailed answer as I am a noob here (just got my first Android a month ago )
Plz help me as I want to play that game very much...............................................
Did you figure it out? I got the same issue.
Well, ayuro123, if u have got the same device as mine (GT s6312), with android 4.1.2 and your device as rooted, then you might try out these steps:
1. Format your external sd card with FAT32.
2. Copy everything on your INTERNAL sd card to your EXTERNAL sd card. You can use any file manager. I might recommend using stock one. This step is necessary, else you will run into problems with your apps.
3. Go to this link and follow the video tutorial:
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Mf2n1LweU2c&desktop_uri=/watch?v=Mf2n1LweU2c
4. If u want the external sd card to be replaced with internal one permanently, then after following all the steps in the video, just click the 'At boot if init.d' button(after pressing the external>internal button). If u do not do this, then the swap will go away after you reboot.
Now, I might recommend you to have a Nandroid backup ready, in case anything goes wrong.
Also, if u cant have a nandroid backup, then I will recommend you to have stock rom and odin ready on your pc, in case you get stuck in a boot loop or any other ugly thing.
NOTE:
I haven't myself tried it. A friend of mine told me, who has tried it without any problems. TRY this IF and ONLY if you have a samsung galaxy young s6312 running stock android 4.1.2.
I use gl to sd, is an app to transfer all data app to sdcard but you need to install in the sdcard first

Need an immediate help!!!

Hello team,
I need to move my GApps to my sd card. When android was in kitkat it was able to move to sd card without rooting from android sdk, but when i upgraded it to lollipop that method is not working. Whenever i try to install new apps from play store its telling not sufficient storage.
Is there any way to move every app to sd card without rooting.
My warranty will be voided if i root my phone.
Please help me.
Thanks,
Suhas
Bro don't worry about warranty avoid just root your device then use app2sd application alike link2sd .later on you can flash stock rom via flash tool. This way is better for phone having less internal memory like ours

Custom ROM suggestion for a specific need

Hello,
I have been a happy user of a Huawei P9 Lite with Revolution ROM. However, I just got a new Galaxy S7; unfortunately, Revolution ROM is not available for that device.
What custom ROM do you suggest I get for the S7, given that I have the following very specific needs:?
1. I need to access the external SD card in both Read and Write mode (R/W).
2. I need to password-protect / encrypt the external SD card.
3. I need to partially install or at least be able to mode some apps' data to the external SD Card.
Items (1) and (2) are the most critical.
Any suggestions?

J7 prime use sd card for internal store

Hello everyone
I need your help.
I want to use my sd card as internal memory
but it turns out that in android 8.1 it is very difficult.
I tried adb but it does not recognize the Shell type commands
(try sm force-adaptive)
If someone has a solution and wants to help a noob, comment and help make my life easier.
Thank you for reading
PS: I am not root
You will need root first. Then install Apps2SD and partition sd card to use as internal.
Use the SD card as a data drive not an OS drive!
You got it all backwards.
Even if you can use the SD card like that you'll take a needless performance hit.
Store all critical data, backups etc on the data drive. Leave the downloads on the internal memory until they're vetted malware free before moving to the data drive.
in have j7 prime (rooted and have magisk) i tried everything adb, apps2sd and many more but nothing worked in adb everything is fine but nothing changes on phone i also cant do it on apps2sd please help my devices original internal storage is too little i need to make more storage with my sd card (sorry if my engilsh is bad)
