So, yesterday, I had a perfectly functioning, stock 4.1.1/rooted unit.
Got a little frisky and decided to try out Liquid Smooth. Flashed that through recovery (it's a 4.2.1 Beta 2) but forgot to do the bootlocker.
The latest LS has a Bluetooth sound problem that's pretty bad. So, I thought I'd switch over to CM10.1, their 4.2.1 effort.
Well, without the bootlocker in place, you can pretty much guess how that worked out.
So now, I've odin'ed a variety of roms and so forth; no clue what happened to my backup.
My main focus has been what I call the dunce-cap routine, of going back to stock and starting over.
The problem? I did that and now I'm stuck in roaming mode and my calls don't work.
I'm dead without this phone (considering how long I've been working on this, since 8 pm or so yesterday except for a couple of hours of sleep, I might be dead, period.) and I've got to have one functioning. It's so bad that I'm considering just trashing it and buying another one, even thought THAT would hurt.
Almost everything I try winds up either getting the yellow triangle or the odin fail.
Now, thanks to some help I've gotten here that focused me into understanding this total screw up is MY fault completely, I believe I know what has to be done.
The plan was to go back to stock, root and DO THE DAMNED BOOTLOCKER, then go back into CM10.1 and make some changes in subscribing to CDMA or something (don't have that in front of me this second) to get the phone part of the phone operational but I can't get there.
In the guide here I have completed step 1, flashing the factory image.
The next step is blowing me up. I have used the file I have for the Recovery: CWM6023TouchVZW.tar.md5.tar, maybe 4 times.
NOW when I try it, odin fails and the phone tells me "secure check fail : recovery."
And help would be appreciated. Before I feed this thing to my Doberman Cavalier Spaniel. Or something.
Have you tried Odin with a completely stock rom?

Yup. Completely stock rom is installed. The next step was installing the recovery... and using a file that I had used before, that's where I'm running into the problem of the secure check fail.
That very file HAS worked before, 3 or 4 times with no problem.
Why does the file end in ".tar.md5.tar"? It's supposed to end in ".tar.md5" Since owning this phone, I've never seen a file with ".tar" twice in the file name.

Update: OK... have gone through the guide which went brilliantly.
Now, do I just boot this thing into recovery and flash the CM10.1?
Is there anything I've overlooked? Anything else I need to do?
And do I do the factory reset/wipe dalvik and the rest before, or after?
I presume I have to use ezlock to unlock the bootloader again after this, right?
No, you still need to unlock bootloader and backup your IMEI. You may want to do quite a bit of reading, CM 10 is not as easy to fix some of the potential problems that you could possibly encounter.
I am not hating on them, but don't think it is as simple as one of the TW ROMS.

When I try this method to back up the IMEI it doesn't do anything after entering the *#7284# and if I hit the phone, it just sends me to a Verizon intercept operator.
The only reason I'm trying to get into a 4.2.1 ROM again was this:

Just flash cm10.1 and fix your mobile settings. CDMA subscription > ruim/sim and toggle airplane mode.

Of you followed the guide I linked you are unlocked with cwm so boot into recovery wipe caches and reset and flash cm10.1 and gapps. First verify you are unlocked

You should fully research and understand any root/mod process, before you start it. You also shouldn't rely on YouTube guides, this being one of the many reasons.
Yes thanks. I realize I should have done a little more research. I will certainly in the future.

Since my **** up with trying to install cyanogenmod, my phone has been in continuous bootloop and only going as far as the HTC screen before rebooting. I can get it into twrp. How would I be able to get the zip file from my computer to my phone? Is there something else I need to do to fix this problem? Thanks for any suggestions.

Go into TWRP, connect your phone to pc, select mount in TWRP menu, select mount usb storage, your phone should show up as a removable drive now, copy file from pc to phone.

When in tarp and I press mount, a window opens up which shows the storage. It says SD card (0MB). Should something be checked off in partitions to moun t? I tried to mount the SD several times an nothing shows up. Thanks.

I have now found out that it does not show up as an htc device. It shows up as an f drive and a g drive. I tried to copy the gapps to the g drive and it said I need to format the removable disk. I hope that this works.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Ah ok, you did a factory reset in bootloader at some point didn't you, that corrupts your sd card. You will need to format it like Windows instructed, format it to fat32 format and you'll be able to access it again. Unfortunately any data you had on it has been wiped now, I hope there wasn't anything too important on there.
Sent from my Evita
Thanks. I did reformat the SD card as windows asked. Then I copied both files onto my phones SD cars and followed the instructions again using twrp. It said that they were both installed successfully but theCyanogenMod home screen did not come up after completion. When I reformatted the SD card, I just let windows do. I did not set it to format to anything specific. I will try it again when I get home tomorrow from work,. Thanks again for your help.

If you're s-on you need to flash the boot.img from the ROM zip via fastboot after you've flashed the ROM and gapps.
Sent from my Evita
Thanks. I am s-on. I will look at it tomorrow and figure out how to do that.

Just extract the boot.img from the root of the ROM zip, put it in your fastboot folder on your pc, bit your phone into bootloader and connect it to your pc, wait for it to say fastboot usb on your phone display then give this command:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Now reboot your phone and it'll boot into the ROM.

Hi Timmaaa. I am still having problems flashing the boot.img from cyanogenmod to my Evita. I put it I'm my fastboot folder and typed in the command as you have told me. I get this message pop up from fastboot.exe. ( this application has failed to start because AbdWinApi.Dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem). I just do not understand what I could be doing wrong. Is it possible I am not using the right folder? I started this a week ago but got the Norovirus from work and could not reply sooner. Thanks for any assistance you can give.

Hey everyone,
I am new to the android phone arena and would appreciate some help.
I bought the nexus 5, rooted it and was attempting to flash CyanogenMod 11. I didnt realize I need a windows computer to do and was trying to do it through the phone itself. (i know, i know...terrible, like I said, I'm new)
The phone froze and will not even restore from a factory reset. It is like it is trying to reset from the CyanogenMod ROM (which wasnt installed properly in the first place). I have tried restoring from a backup, but none exists. I tried mounting a flash drive with the stock hammerhead ROM on it, but it will not mount. I am using ClockwordMod Recovery v6.0.4.4.

Ok lets try decrypting this first.
It sounds like you got through the rooting process, and got yourself a custom recovery. Ok
You flashed CM11, but it started to boot loop on you.You tried to revert back to stock, but you failed to make a backup. Now you are stuck since you cant mount the phone as a disk from recovery and restore a working rom.
Is this what is going on?
If so, you still have hope. You can use adb from the boot loader and push the stock firmware back on.
Follow this thread and start over from the beginning.

Yes, Un-root, go back to stock and try this again. Next time, make a backup before Flashing like mad.

Hi guys.
I have some problems with my recovery, here is my story.
I was running last TWRP, and while doing an update of my favorite ROM, the installation was stuck at fomatting system... I tried to reboot several times and nothing to do it couldn't work.
So I installed (in a dirty way) CWM to try it. Formatting seemed to work and it's still working (or at least it's written that the operation is done) BUT when I want to update my ROM and when the script needs at the beginning to format system, it's stuck for several minutes. Sometimes it works only after 3 or 4 times (or maybe it's because I don't wait enough) and so then everything works out but I've got a message like "the error was system", can't remember sorry, if you need what is exactly written I'll tell you.
So why should I do ?
Thanks.
Hope you understood me, my english kinda sucks..
I think your best bet at this point would be flashing the factory images and starting fresh. I don't use twrp myself, but for what I've read here, it's best to let it finish what it's doing and not reboot.
