Hello, couldnt find anything about converting Moto G to Google Play edition. So is that possible and if it is does ota updates come to device normally. What is needed to do this convert and how to flash those to the device.

When it's possible, we'll know how, there's no doubt about it.
Yes is GPE image possible now, but this image is US, EU mobiles have problem with gps and wifi, may be some radio frequence are disable too.

There is no GPe firmware image available. There is a ROM made from a system dump. Flashing this in CWM/TWRP will not change Radio/Modem firmware. The issues are to do with the ROM itself.

It's quite likely considering it's status as a Google Play edition device.

Will it be possible to turn my unlocked U.S GSM Moto G into a Google Play Edition with it being able to receive OTA updates from Google?
My Moto G is all stock atm.

it should be possible by soon, just as its possible for HTC one and GS4 to turn into their google edition roms.
I just hope it's possible for dual sim as well since the google edition one is only out in single sim version

you will likely need to unlock your bootloader but other than that, it should absolutely be possible.
And I'll need root, correct? I remember when I had my at&t HTC one that you couldn't just flash the GPe edition ROM for OTA updates you had to do something else for that..

Most likely not. But we will not know until they post the rom.

Why not? Some people may appreciate the Google Dialer or the pure Nexus experience.

New dialer, no bloatware, full list of system languages (like Russian for example)
I am waiting for such conversion guide. I did the same with my HTC One before.
UPD: As I am using Nexus 5 I want only stock Android on my other devices . Because 4.4.2 is awesome ) I really enjoy it.
Thanks for the replies, i wasn't asking it to sound rude,
just didnt know what the differences where.
I don't know about u guys but I have the Google dialer on my stock-non rooted US GSM moto g. On 4.4... It's the same one as my nexus 4...
So besides the camera software and no Motorola features/ apps (which I find cool/ useful like the battery saver) there's really no difference.... Yeah software updates... Whatever.

Faster Android updates and probably outlast Motorola's updates..as OEMs typically stop putting out updates once another device comes and steals the thunder.
As for the dailer I think that's still exclusive to the Nexus 5 where it shows a picture based on the number which it gets from a automatic Google search I think..possibly more features.

IMO we don't know yet if GPE versions will actually be faster.
Moto mostly just added a few Moto apps for their OEM version. That's why they had 4.4 ready so fast I think.
And the reality with GPE is that the OEM, Motorola, is actually responsible for the work.
So Moto could decide to release simultaneous or delay one or the other.
If they ship both OEM and GPE 4.5's shortly after Android 4.5 is announced, that will make them look good (and will be good), and I'd bet that's part of their plan.
An unlocked Moto X can have the bootloader unlocked and then have different firmwares flashed to it. For example, I had a Moto X from Mexico...sim unlocked. I unlocked the bootloader, of course voiding the warranty and I flashed the ATT firmware to it. So I basically converted it to a ATT Moto X. Which is similar to converting a ATT HTC One to a GPe HTC One etc.
Nevertheless, because our Moto G's bootloader can be unlocked and we can flash firmwares etc once it unlocked, I'm assuming we'll be able to flash the GPe Firmware to our Moto G..

Is there anything else better en retail non-gpe rom ?
Does someone confirm ?
It took me hours to install and customize GPE rom, damn it... if I had known earlier..
Any link to download directly the best stock rom available ?
The non-GPE ROMs have got lots of optimizations from Motorola, that the GPE lacks. Yes can add some of them manually on the GPE, but rather use the non-GPE.
Get the UK KK for example, if you decide to switch.

Hello,
Can somebody please give me a link to download stock kitkat Asia retail rom for MOTO G XT1033?
I searched for a long time but could not find a flashable zip file. Also didn't make a backup of my stock firmware :crying:
Additional details in screenshot.
Stock ROM XT1033
Motorola don't seem to have uploaded the 4.4.2 Stock ROM anywhere out there.
Download the 4.3 JB on the firmwares page below, & then update via OTA.
sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=14
P.S. Download the OTA update and update via sideload if you have troubles
Faith is the key. Don't lose it
And I thought ...
hey, thanks for your reply.
After hours of searching, I found this:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/3t4v75yvhrd5/RETAIL-AS_FALCON_KXB20.25-1.31_cid7_CFC_1FF.xml.zip
The build version is the same as the stock Kitkat rom. Although I haven't tried it yet, been lazy.
Personally, I do not think that Moto people would be so biased towards XT1033 Asia users and not even release the fw in question.
Would update once I have tried this rom.

If you have ordered it from Google, and have no "Motorola" apps on it at all, it is a "GPe", if you bought it in a store, and has a MOTOROLA logo and APPS (camera, assist, whatever) it is a non GPe version.
It makes no difference, the only difference is that the GPe is stock Android from Google, non GPe is not.

Just download 4.4.2 firmware..
