Select Value Unlimited Everything for $35?? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently on the $30 unlimited text/data plan with 100 minutes.
I have a friend who is on a $35 plan with unlimited everything including unlimited voice (+$8 for insurance).
How do I switch to that? Attached are some screenshots. Notice it does not give me the option to switch to the "Select" plans?

You get 0 data with the $35 plan and it's probably only available for new activations, like the $30 plan.

You can't. Select Value plans are no longer offered. People that have them are grandfathered into them like Verizon and unlimited data plans.

Is there any Nexus 5- and LTE-compatible service with unlimited voice and data for less than $45/month?

Straight talk does for $45, but I wouldn't recommend them. You could always just try it though. BTW, it's not really unlimited, it's 2.5GB at high speed then the rest at 2G. No one is going to give you unlimited everything for less than $45. If someone is, please tell me who because I'm switching right away

Not unlimited everything. Just voice and data. I use Google Voice so don't need texting.
The above plan in the OP is close to that. I wish there was something less than $60 though.

there is... if you find 4 other people, and get a 10-15% off corporate discount from t-mobile
then get a t-mobile simple choice family plan with 5 people. base account price of $110 split by 5 people = $22 per
add in $20 for unlimited data = $42. add ~15% fee/taxes, minus 10-15% discount... should be under $50

With or without throttling? Straight Talk's base plan is $45 unlimited with throttling. I don't know off the top of my head, but I think there are other MVNOs for about the same price. As for unlimited everything without throttling, you're not going to get that for under $70/month. There is no free lunch.

Throttling would be ok. I'm comfortable with 1.5 to 2 GB at LTE.
500 MB is a bit low though.

Well like I said, you're not going to get a free lunch. If you don't want to pay for it all, you have to accept throttling and/or limited airtime. AIO offers 2 GB for $55/month. Net10 has 2.5 GB/month for $50. GoSmart has a $50 plan with 5 GB/month at 3G speed if you can live with that.

Thats why I told you straight talk a while ago. 2.5GB at LTE speeds for $45. They have horrendous customer service though.

Cheaper unlimited data plan available

i have been browsing this forum, and i haven't seen anyone mention that they have a preferred data plan.
however, tmobile does offer a $20 preferred android unlimited plan. it can be acquired by calling tmobile retentions department and just asking nicely!
this plan satisfies the data requirement that is needed for the $200 upgrade price on the g2x.
hope this was a help!
More details? I pay 59.99 a month for 1000 minutes and unlimited text/data 4g with the even more plus plan. Would I benefit?
Is it still throttled?
When I was at Tmobile, the store manager said I have to get the 4G plan to get 4G data. I told him I already got Android plan and he insisted to change the plan to 4G. He said there is no different in price (My Android plan was $25 )
Congrats. You've just been throttled to 2GB.

Im also on the same 19.99 android data plan. It was given to me after complaining about the 4G/3G coverage in my area.
And data is still throttled after 5GB to a speed of dial up.
I called and had the $20 preferred android added on. The first time I called, the rep insisted on renewing my contract to 2 years, I declined, and called back an hour later. The 2nd rep added on and the whole conversation took less than 3 minutes.
Just want to throw that out there, so you don't renew your contract.
I signed up for the $60 1500 minutes + unlimited text special, and then the unlimited (5GB) data for $20.
A few days later they switch the same plan around to "unlimited" everything for the same combined price ($80)
I tried switching but my data plan would change to $30 instead of $20 for some reason.

In fact you would end up on the 2gb throttle at that point.

Oh they'll say unlimited data. I haven't seen a single "unlimited" data plan without some sort of throttling to 2G built in.

Yes, true. Go look at their website. They started the unlimited everything for 79.99 right before the G2x launched and suckered people into a 2gb throttled plan.

Very easy if you're into youtube or slacker radio on high quality
This looks pretty good to me, but I have two questions:
I just got the g2x, and it's my first android phone so I'm not too familiar with what's a normal amount of data usage. If I will just be using my phone for web browsing and twitter and facebook with light photo uploading, and occasional youtube, will 2gb be enough? Right now I get 200 mb.....so anything would be better.
Also, is there a special number I should call for retentions, or do I just call customer service and ask about the plan?

Tmobile.c om has a meter at which they calculate data usage under different scenarios. Give that a try. From my personal experiences with data usages on a smart phone, 200mb is not nearly enough to be satisfied. Watching youtube for 10-15 mins can already take up a chunk of your limited 200mb. If you're going to stick with that plan then i suggest you use wifi whenever you're able to.
I don't think there is a specific number for their retention lines. You can just dial 611 on your tmobile activated cell and ask to be transferred to retentions.
I am currently on a preferred data plan for $20 and unlimited family text for $10. I'm not to sure what they would give for a single plan. Ask about these deals.
Good luck. I hope you can get it all worked out fine!
I am confused????
I am going from a G1 with unlimited text/data , So what happends when I get my phone and put my sim card in does it magically stop the unlimited data/text plan???
I am new to posting but been a long time reader.

AT&T new Data Plans

Surprised nobody has posted about this yet...begins Jan 22nd *for new customers*
300MB DataPlus - $20 (plus $20 per 300MB overage unit)
3GB DataPro - $30 (plus $10 per 1GB overage)
5GB DataPro w/ Tethering - $50 (plus $10 per 1GB overage)

Just an upsell to force people to buy more data than they need and pay more. I hate this, they did it to their texting plans recently, and I got forced into a higher one because I requested to change my plan for only that month and then have it go back automatically (which I've done plenty of times when I go over) and then they changed the tiers between that call and the next month and wouldn't change it back.
If they made the bottom $20 tier something like 500 MB to 1 GB, that'd be another matter, but they know where the sweet spot is and they don't want to sell you that.
Plus they start throttling speeds when you hit like 1.5 GB, so it's not like you can even get what you pay for.
They need a way to make up for that money they lost with that tmobile deal.

The reason why they don't throttle tiered plans is that they want you to burn through your data faster.
Well...yeah....they want you to pay for what you use, thus why they throttle unlimited plans and then suggest user switch to the tiered plan to avoid throttling
Sprint is the lone unlimited unthrottled left (though if you read the verbage closely they do reserve the right to throttle/modify/cancel your service at any time)
Hell they canceled my service for excessive roaming on an unlimited everything plan.
As for the new tiers...nothing has chanhed that much pther than the 300mb plan. Its still roughly $10/gb ...isnt that what it was before (i am on unlimited so I honestly domt remember)
250mb was $15
2 gb was $20
4 gb was $40 or something along those lines...then they had tethering or pro plans

WEAK SAUCE!!
Phuck AT&T for xrists sake holding that data so close to your chest and it may just
end up drowning you one day.
The plans have not changed in pricing at all.
I am currently on 2gb mo and since I activated my Rocket I have been buzzing right through it.. example with my cappy I would stay under 2gb consistently and use wifi when possible. Now the Rocket just sops it up. Passed my 2Gb within the first 2 days on my first month.. took 2 weeks to hit 2 on the second month.
With each additional Gb costing $10 (outrageous!!!)
I have NO INCENTIVE to boost my plan to the 4-5 Gb plan.. As it is now I will pay for how much I use.. No Gb going to waste. $20+2Gb was my first LTE month equalling $40 thats, same cost as the tiered 4 gig plan! This month I tried to limit use but for some reason watching the SAME amount of youtubes and Downloading APKs et all IS USING MORE DATA THAN IT DID ON THE CAPTIVATE ... I really meant to track every bit of this month to catch AT&T miscalculating my DATA USE.. alas an unplanned night at a friends with my MHL adapter on hand and TUBE got outa control and I lost track right away. I really have been meaning to exclusively track the data cost of a day/week/months of google VOIP (goog voice) for ALL calls instead of using plan minutes.
Back to my suggestion.. Throw tiered data subscribers a bone here.. give the $40 a month user 6 gigs instead of 4.. give the $20 subscriber 3 Gigs... Adding incentive by way of an extra gig for $5 or two (on the bigger plan) for $5 each x2.
Show the subscribers who stuck with you while you played favorites with your iPhone darlings. We suffered dropped calls and lousy coverage while your lines were inundated with exclusive iPhone users clamoring for the only company with the apple phone. We waited for you to unveil LTE (and many still are waiting!) and now you claim the country's fastest network..WELL LET YOUR SUBS USE IT!!!
Time to pony up the data guy.. we been waiting for it.. Be honest the AT&T show was pretty weak during the 3g era.. that's putting it nicely.. You care about OUR money? show me.

It's just another way to rip money from our wallets. Me and my wife's usage won't change but we'll have to spend more money. F--k you AT&T.
.
am I crazy for being tempted to switch off unlimited for the $50/5 gb/tethering option?
i tether lightly and usually my usage is around 1gb-2gb. i could tether more (w/o running the risk of being the subject of AT&T's ire) and not worry about throttling.
it's basically paying an extra $20 so i can tether and avoid throttling.

In general terms, mobile bandwidth is at 80% capacity at any given time. I work for an isp, and we refer to that as high bandwidth utilization. In Europe, and in parts of Asia, the bandwidth utilization really isn't an issue. Here in the US, it's about the infrastructure. Phone makers, and app developers are encouraging the use of greater data consumption by the consumer, but the carriers are providing plans for the consumer, nor are they upgrading their infrastructure quickly enough to help with the problem.

Part of it is due to the hit they took in Q4. The iPhone is sucking the life out of the mobile market.

Question about Skyrocket and AT&T data metered data?

I currently have a Epic 4G Touch over on Sprint with their craptasic unlimited data. I'm lucky to speed test 5~30kbps on 3G, yes you read that correctly. I've been a 10+ year Sprint customer and the more and more smart devices they get, the slower the network becomes.
I think it might be time to jump ship!
So, my buddy just had the same issues as me, slow 3G. He flashed a Verizon PRL file to his phone and well, lets just say got out of his contract without paying an ETF.
He just picked up the Skyrocket and could NOT be happier. He came over to show the phone to me the other night and and his data speed was amazing! Unfortunately, we have no 4G where I live so I'm stuck on 3G but both his LTE and 3G were blazing.
He has a 3GB a month LTE packages that is metered for the LTE but he claims the 3G is unlimited. Now, pretty much everyone in my office but myself has an AT&T iPhone and they are all saying they do NOT have anything unlimited and that my friend is mistaken. I'm trying to figure out which is correct because I'm thinking about picking up a Skyrocket this week. Is it different between say an iPHone and an Android?
Thanks!
They throttle you after 5 gb if you are on a grandfathered unlimited plan. If you are on a tiered plan you dont get throttled and if you go over your limit they add another whatever gb you had to your bill. So if you had 3gb for $30 and you go over it, they give you another 3gb and charge you another $30

That's true or you can get 1GB for $10...
So then my friend is full of sh__... He is a brand new AT&T customer as of about two weeks ago and he is very insistent on the fact that the only metered data is the LTE, the 3G is unlimited.
He seems very sure that when his LTE is out, he can just jump on 3G and use that at no additional cost until his cycle resets.
I thought that sounded wrong.

If he's a NEW customer then he should not have ANYTHING unlimited. Which means he will be most surprised when he get's his phone bill and has overage charges, because they won't throttle the limited plans. He will still get 4G once he exceeds his data limit, AT&T will just start charging overage charges.

You are looking at the classic plan. As I said look for the Value plan. Otherwise there is no other way of getting unlimited internet.
http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Packages/ValuePackages.aspx
Also since you are probably on the 100 min unlimited plan then you can jump on the 500min unlimited plan which is $59.99 or the one without unlimited texts for $54.99

Wrong, look at the list.
There is a 200mb option then a 2gig option and then last an unlimited plan which is nearly 1TB.
There is a 69.99 unlimited everything but there is probably a catch lile for new user only with 2 yrs. Agreement

Nope, It does require a 2 year contract but it's not for just new users. It's not a limited time plan or anything.
Damn why can't I just change plan without contract

For me, it would end up costing about $20 more per month as I'm on the value family plan and pay $90 before taxes for 2 lines with unlimited talk, text and 5gb data.
I'd go into a store and see if you can strong arm them into giving you the plan. They hate losing customers since their only advantage is being cheaper, nicer and more open to a range of devices.

That's a lot of advantages lol. I recently switched to Simple Mobile and the speeds are the exact same, signal is the same (uses T-Mobile towers) and I hardly use my phone's data to watch much youtube since there's usually wifi somewhere, including my house. Whoever watches Netflix on their phone via your data connection... you'rs just asking to get capped.
Are you always traveling? Try to use WiFi.

The unlimited data plan tmobile just introduced includes a proxy redirect if you try to tether your phone to another device. If you're blowing through your 5gb cap because all you do is watch youtube and netflix on tmobile, you have two options...choose to loose the ability to tether, and maybe pay a little more.
I get redirect now without. The new plan

t-mobile unlimited data promo?

Anyone see this? Unlimited at no extra cost. I can't find anything where it says how long it's no additional cost. Anybody have any more info?

I'm not positive but I believe that's for the people that have the unlimited plan. They say to have the 10gb hotspot you have to enable it first.
Im on the 2GB plan, but seem this. I went ahead and changed to the "unlimited" but I have to wait until my next cycle to see the change. I'll guess I'll find out in a week.
This is a legit promotion they are having in order to counter Verizon's new unlimited plan. This plan includes everything unlimited, 480p/ 720p video streaming (no longer 360p but 720p 60 fps gets throttled, 10 GB of 4G hotspot tethering (then throttles to 3/2G) and includes data overseas (not at sea) and texting on planes through wifi. This costs altogether $75 but with autopay, goes down to $70; I did this in person at a kiosk so I knew I wouldn't mess it up. It's a great deal and this is also available with the 2 for $100 and other T-Mobile one plans.
I'm currently on the simple choice 2gb plan. But seen I could upgrade to unlimited at no additional cost. Just thought that it was odd.

You get 10gb for LTE hotspot or usb tethering. But you do need to enable that option which is free. After the 10gb you get slowed to 3g speed. That's only for the hotspot and tethering. I pulled the trigger and switched last week. Today we finally paid off both the S7s we had financed. T-Mobile emailed me telling me my new bill will be $158.12 That's for 4 phones. I was on the 2 gb plan. As of today my oldest son who now lives an hour away has used 6gb and not been slowed down yet. So apparently the new plan kicked in immediatly.

what was the verdict with the unlimited data promo? I see it as an option on my account as well and curious how it worked for you.

Sorry I don't recall the exact outcome of that, but I know I still only had 2gb of lte. A couple months later I went to the unlimited all in.
