Just recently updated to SlimSaber / 4.4.2 on my Galaxy S 4G SGH-T959V.
Love that we've got new life on an old device, thanks to those who made this possible!!!
Question: Is it possible to use the "OK, Google" voice command with this phone without pressing any buttons?

You have to flash or install the GEL - Google e_whatever launcher - to have that feature, find it urself. Slimsaber comes w Launcher3.apk, a modified GEL so it doesn't support that feature natively due to license or so I think.

Thanks, Where would I get this, and would it be safe to install that alone from TWRP or do I need to do something prior to intstall (wiping, etc.)? Also, any negative performance implications here? I love the performance of the phone as it is.
First off, any time you add new functionality to a phone (any phone), especially if it has "always on" capabilities (including checking things for you in the background and data sync) you will see "performance degradation" to some level. You're asking the phone to do more. There is no getting around that. The question is really, "Will I notice worse performance?"
You will:
Consume more of the space in /system, potentially not being able to install the whole 150 MB or so of Google apps without removing some of the other system apps or converting them to user apps
Consume more space in /data/dalvik-cache, potentially running out of space in /data
Have many more services running in the background, meaning
Lower batter life
More data consumption
More competition for system resources (less responsive phone)
How important that is to you against voice-command operation of your phone is a personal decision.
Where to get Gapps? I'm using the ones that @BaNkS puts together -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012857
Others like the ones from Paranoid Android -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942
Within reason, they should all be about the same, as long as they are current. There have been a couple revisions of the apps from Google since the initial release of KitKat, some of which apparently work better than others.
Find the apk and install it like a regular app.

If you want, you can try the PA stock GApps, It replaces the default AOSP Launcher with GEL (Google Experience Launcher) along with other google apps. Here's a link to it from my DB. I'll warn you now though, it's huge in file size(about 264 MB). List of what's in the package is below.
GOOGLE STOCK PACKAGE
This package is recommended for most users of current devices (legacy device owners may want to use Mini Modular GApps due to the size of this package). It includes all the Google Apps that come standard on Nexus devices.
In this package you will find the Core Base¹, Google Experience Launcher (replaces stock/AOSP launcher), Google PhotoSphere Camera/Gallery², Sun Beam Live Wallpaper, and the following Play Store applications:
Chrome Browser (replaces stock/AOSP Browser) | Cloud Print | Gmail | Google+ | Google Calendar (replaces stock/AOSP Calendar) | Google Drive | Google Earth | Google Keep | Google Text-to-Speech
Google Keyboard (replaces stock/AOSP Keyboard) | Google Play Books | Google Play Games | Google Play Newsstand | Google Play Music | Google Play Movies | Google Play services
Google Search | Google Wallet | Hangouts (replaces stock/AOSP SMS App) | Maps | Quickoffice | Sound Search for Google Play | Street View on Google Maps | TalkBack | YouTube
http://acidify.us/LN6CyL
If you want the Mini Modular GApps, let me know and I'll link that one also (currently downloading and syncing to my DB, so might be a little bit). That file size is around 122 MB.
Thanks everyone. I think I will stay streamlined and just use Google search voice commands.

Good call, in my mind nowhere near worth it, just a cheap parlor trick not worth giving up the space or the power drain.

Hello,
i just upgrade my Nexus S to Jelly Bean a couple of days ago and found that it contains a lot of Google apps i never use (Currents for example). I started doing what i did with previous Android versions: remove the apks from /system/app.
So far i have removed Currents.apk and EmailGoogle.apk (i only use Gmail). The system works nicely without that.
I think that Google Earth, Movie Studio and Play Books can be removed safely. You can install some of them later through Google Play.
Anyone tried to remove that also?
Anyone tried to remove Browser?
Regards,
Massimiliano

Actually I don't remove them, I just disable them so they wont appear on my drawer.
+1. Just freeze them. If something goes haywire, at least the application is still available to defrost on the phone.
Here's one of the apps you can use to freeze system app: App Quarantine
I removed(renamed) books, currents, partnersetup, googlefeedback, Googleplus, exchange the market with froyo market, Facelock, googlenow (Cool, but takes some RAM), talk, nfc, tag, launcher(I have another one), latinime (I use another keyboard)
I always do this, no problems what so ever, my only goal is to reduce RAM
I disabled google+.
Hey there, can I install only certain apps from gapps?
If yes, how do I do it?

The apps are distributed among 3 folders :
Optional - Camera/Gallery and facelock
system/app - most of the unwanted stuff & few of the wanted
system/priv-app - most of the wanted stuff & few of the unwanted
The thing that's bothering me is -
Can I safely delete from PRIV-APP folder ??
I remember I messed with mine with priv-app folder. It should be fine tho. But remember, do at your own risk. I won't shoulder any blame upon any damages incurred.

A better idea is to freeze or diable the corresponding appps u don't need as they are directly integrated into the framework
So deleting it in the .zip might not go so well and might end up with FC's in other apps......
Get Titanium backup and frezze those apps u don't want it should do the trick...

Here's a gapps package that I made for myself out of the most recent Slim minimal gapps. It only has the bare necessities for getting the playstore to function. I added Hangouts for you but I don't have the apk's for maps, google keyboard or launcher, or photosphere. You can download the keyboard and maps from the playstore. AFAIK, photosphere is incompatible with the Atrix 2 because it doesn't have the proper hardware. If you can upload the additional apk's that I didn't have I'll drop them in a flashable zip for you and re-upload the zip here.
Download this one for now:
https://db.tt/mrHPZ08t
Make a backup then wipe cache and davlik and flash in recovery. Of course, you're responsible for everything you do including but not limited to any and all modifications you make to your phone. I have personally tested this and can verify that it works but, hey, $#!+ happens...
If I had a dollar for every time I said that, I'd be making money in a very weird way.

I use Slim GApps for my 4.4 ROMs, it contains the least apks. Here again there are some apps, which, I prefer not to install. I use 7zip to get rid of these apks. just open the zip package and remove the apps from /system/apps, I leave /system/priv-app/ folder as it is. Hope this helps, good luck.

Just curious why you'd disable the apps that are just as easily uninstallable (ie.Hangouts, GP Books, Games, Music, Drive, Earth)?
If you don't plan on using them....ever....why not increase your storage capacity?

Are you using a custom ROM in which they're baked in? If so, the process for removing system .apks is a bit different, and you may in fact want to simply leave them disabled rather than removing entirely so you don't encounter any potential FC's or loss of functionality.

You removed facebook ? so you downloaded it and then uninstalled it, madness man madness.
I remove these every CM flash :
STK-SimToolKit ( PoS junk )
Terminal Emulator ( No need if you have a custom recovery )
MMS ( not hangouts )
Movie Editor ( WTF what is this a phone or a PC ? )
All Live wallpapers ( Saves some space, and i don't know anyone who uses them )
Email client and exchange ( don't use exchange because of pin entry swapped to gmail on Android 1.0 )
Any non-google camera related gallery(s) ( for AKOP / AOSP builds )
Sound recorder ( useless for me personally )
Any Browser that's not chrome ( always use linked devices to follow links from home / work )
Google+ / Magazines / Books / movies ( never used these and why bother magazines and books / movies are all integrated into play store, if GAPPS includes these )
You disable Drive? Dang son that's how/where my schoolwork gets done haha.
I'm on stock, rooted.
Disabled:
Email
Exchange services
Face unlock
Google Hindi input
Google Korean keyboard
Google Pinyin
HP print service plugin
IWnn IME
IWnnIME keyboard (white)

That doesn't make sense I'm pretty sure. Disabling an app has the same effect as uninstalling the app. The apk is simply not accessible to the OS, as it doesn't run. So you wouldn't prevent any dependency problems by disabling than by simply removing.

Hi,
I'm always insist on using upgraded ROMs and softwares. For months I was using Marshmallow and my SOT was around 3.5-4 hours. But it was 5.5-6 hours on Kitkat! I thought maybe my battery is aged, but today again i flash Mahdi-Rom 2.9 (Kitkat) and again my SOT is 5.5-6 hours with same usage as Marshmallow! I want to know whats the problem? Do you have same experience? I really like Marshmallow but i'm thinking to use Kitkat as daily driver!
Thanks.
Did you try to compare KK vs MM without Play Services? I'm pretty sure that Google related stuff require more and more battery.
Actually I have +50% of SOT since I removed Google apps.

Sorry but this makes me laugh! There's a world besides Google apps and services I don't want to give all my personal data to one company. There's plenty of good apps to use, even apps that respect your privacy.
There's also a FLOSS framework to replace Google Services (microG Gms Core).

I've read about them (also on Replica project), but are they safe security wise? microG is heavy alpha and F-droid was accused for outdated apps. For me privacy is not that big of an issue (I'm pretty sure Google, FB, Microsoft, NSA laugh etc. can figure out pretty much anything even if we use open source software), however power and memory consumption is.

The main purpose of microG is privacy concerns, not security (even if I don't notice anything special about security) and it's working well for my needs. Other reasons to use it: free software, no bloatware, legal issues with gapps... The better battery life is just bonus
F-Droid is a small team of enthusiasts of free/libre softwares. Most of the time they have to manually build the apps so don't blame them if they need time and support to update the repos. By using apps from F-Droid, you know that the source code is available and apps respect the users.
In addition, there's a big difference between open source softwares and free/libre softwares. GAFAM shouldn't have too much power and it's dangerous (example).
After trying a couple of different custom ROMs, I've decided to relock my bootloader and use the Stock ROM, I don't think the Stock ROM is the best but for the purpose that I need is the one that works best. Since I can't stand the bloatware I've made a simple bash script to remove system apps of the Stock ROM(Android 10) on the Moto G7 play smartphone, you do not need ROOT nor an unlocked bootloader.
This is meant to be used with the Stock Android 10 ROM, I've made this for my own use and decided to share here to whomever may it concern.
What apps will this script uninstall?
facebook app (com.facebook.katana)
facebook related services (com.facebook.appmanager)
facebook related services (com.facebook.services)
facebook related services (com.facebook.system)
google music app (com.google.android.music)
