Hello everyone,
Earlier today, I decided to try out the Light Flow app (to customise LED notifications). I didn't really like it so uninstalled it again. Since then I've noticed some issues with Hangouts SMS notifications. When someone sends me a text while my phone is locked, my phone does nothing; no sound, no vibration, no LED. When I unlock the phone (just pressing the power button so the screen pops up), the message immediatly pops up as if it arrived just then.
Does anyone know what could cause this, is there some kind of option for this which the Light Flow app turned off? Also, the issue I just described doesn't always happen, sometimes messages just pop up (sound, vibration, LED) as they should, sometimes nothing happens untill I unlock the phone.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Go to SETTINGS, DISPLAY & then make sure PULSE NOTIFICATION LIGHT has been checked. Rule of thumb: Always restart your phone once uninstalling or adding an app that makes such alterations to the software for seemless performance.
If I've helped you, then please help me and hit the THANKS button .

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. The PULSE NOTIFICATION LIGHT is checked. The problem doesn't always happen though, sometimes messages do pop up as they should. Also, apps like Facebook Messenger and Whatsapp seem to be still working as intended.
I also restarted my phone already, didn't seem to solve anything .
I think I somehow need to make sure my Hangouts app will still run in the background when the phone's asleep, no clue how though.
Any other ideas are greatly appreciated!

OK, go into HANGOUTS, hit the SETTINGS tab (3 dots at the top right corner), then click on SMS to check if NOTIFICATIONS is checked & then back out once & do the same with HANGOUTS by clicking on your email name.

Hey,
Thanks again for your clear reply! I appreciate the fact you're taking your time to take screenshots to help me out . I had all those options checked though, so that couldn't have been the issue. I think Light Flow somehow altered my software so other text programs don't run in the background anymore. Although this doesn't explain the fact that most of the time messages seem to appear as they should. I'm lost...

You're very welcome. Is suggest downloading LIGHT FLOW once again and see if there's a setting you can unchecked then uninstall. Also check ACCESSIBILITY setting and uncheck LIGHT FLOW. I believe it should pop up in there once installed.

How about clearing data of or uninstalling/reinstalling Hangouts?
I'm having the exact same problem. It also started after removing Light Flow. Did you get it working again? I tried different SMS apps but still no sound when I receive a incoming text msg.

Title says it all, but it's still vague as hell. Vibrate problems on ringing/notification? Haptic feedback in general? Elaboration is your friend.
Staying on post, I didn't notice any vibration issues while I had it turned on, but its since been turned off to conserve battery life.
I have this problem all the time, Im vague for everything without realizing it. I meant vibrate for notifications. I tried turning it on in settings but nothing.
If you want it to vibrate for your text messages you must go into the settings in the messaging app and turn it on as well as in the global settings. Same for email i believe.
Well, that did it. thank you very much.
thx that helps me too.
I just want to chime in on this situation and say that I had the same problem on my completely stock evo shift. One moment it worked perfectly and the next it didn't. After several attempts at checking settings and hard/soft resetting, come to find out it was a faulty motor in mine that worked when it wanted to. Had my phone replaced at the sprint store after a supposed cleaning fixed it and then failed again after 3 vibrating notifications. Just another possible resolution/observation.

Actually I have the opposite problem, I cannot disable notifications vibration ( for messages ) on MIUI ... but I found out this was caused by the apps settings ( Fb messanger / Wechat / What'sup )
Hi,
Is there an app (working with the Sensation) that can make the LED notification light flash continually until you actually open the new message or am I stuck having to bring the phone out of sleep incessantly to check if anything new has come in?
Surely such an app would just eat battery up for no reason.

I've been having a look at this myself,
(i am a noob when it comes to devolping apps)
but i was one first to get desire and there
was a command that you can run (without root)
to get the led to flash different colours length etc..
Tried this on the sensation and just get a file cannot be found.
(if you want to now the command then pm me or
il post it up not that it be much help)
so basically this means all existing apps with run on this old
command, so a new one will be needed when somebody figures
out the file name for the sensation led - then you can
just push a number to it using the echo command and itl work.
put into a java script and your done

You know, I never noticed that since it's my second line. Interesting. Maybe part the reason the standby time is so good on this phone. (really reaching)

I just got the phone and the lack of a notification sound or light is a big negative for me.
I would love to see the app NoLED work for the Sen4G which would be a perfect fix for this issue
The HTC Sensation does have notification by sound, LED and Vibration, look closer at your settings check out the settings in HTC Hub

The problem I'm having with NoLED is that I also use Handcent SMS and when you clear the NoLED notification screen it also closes the sms popup window. It's kind of annoying. A fix around that issue is the problem I'm having.
Just installed SMS Popup & it seems to have an option to repeat your reminder & can set an interval. It even turns on the screen which I missed!!!
Testing now.

Edit: yep, works perfectly. Only downside is you lose the awesome lockscreen feature of showing the envelope & text

Haha yes! And I've successfully converted a few others as well. I mainly use it because I can text via my work PC or my home PC. Texting with a full keyboard = a thousand times better
Plus saving on text messaging costs, and ease of porting number over yadda yadda
Anyway, I've been testing out NoLED today and it's a nice app but I don't like that it turns the entire screen on. Massive battery loss there.
Is there a better way?
from what I've read NoLED was made with an AMOLED screen in mind where black doesn't drain the battery because those LEDs are actually off
I've been using NoLED with Handcent. There is an option in NoLED that is Handcent specific that seems to keep the sms popup under the NoLED notification. Just unlock NoLED with the volume rocker and the popup window will remain open. Only downside is when the phone is on vibrate you will be constantly taking the phone out of vibrate mode to unlock NoLED to view sms popups. At that point you'd have to use the home or back key to unluck NoLED but it will dismiss the sms popup. So NoLED is ALMOST a nice fix. Gonna use it for now until something better comes along.

After going through all the app's options and menus extensively, I now have it set to disable the screen via the proximity sensor (ie if in my pocket etc).
Now I'm trying to use the Blink feature so if my phone is on a table or somewhere exposed, the screen isn't 100% on. Rather, it turns off/on periodically.
However, it seems the Blink feature doesn't work on the Sensation? When I get a notification, the screen never turns on.
If I disable blink, it works again right away (but then the screen is on 100% of the time when not in my pocket).
Anyone else experienced this?
Hello everyone!
I recently replaced my 3 year old Nexus S with a Nexus 5. It's my second smartphone and I love it. Naturally, I rooted it and everything.
One of the apps that peeked my interest was Light Flow. It's a bit mind-boggling what you can do with it, but I'll figure it all out. However, I noticed one issue straight away...
Notifications in different colours seem to work. I did a test with whatsapp and it blinks green: perfect. However, after a couple of "blinks" a white light flashes "through" it if that makes sense. It doesn't alternate between green and white, no, they just flash through each other, the white light slightly before the green light.
I don't know what is causing this white light to flash, but after I turn off Light Flow and close the app entirely, it keeps flashing. I have to restart my phone to make it stop (or disable notification LED in the Android settings menu).
Does anyone have a similar issue? Or can someone maybe tell me what boxes I have to tick in the Light Flow settings? It could very well be one of the settings is causing this issue. If someone has a certain set-up and it works fine, I'd love to try it and see if it fixes my issue.
Thanks in advance!

I tried another app (Light Manager), and I had the exact same problem. Don't get me wrong, the app is working fine, but once I set everything up and I do a test notification, a white notification keeps flashing even after I turn Light Manager off. The only thing that helps is to disable LED notifications in the Android settings, or to reboot the device.
Something is telling my device that there's a notification, but I don't know how to fix it.

Thanks for the personal reply, andrew! I really appreciate that
However, for some reason my phone keeps flashing this white light, even after I turn off Light Flow. I have to turn off the notification LED in general or reboot my phone for it to stop. The white light notification starts after I do a "missed call test" like described in that link (that works perfectly fine by the way), or after any test I do with Light Flow for that matter. And it doesn't stop no matter how often I clear my notifications.
EDIT: NEVERMIND. Totally forgot that I don't have a sim card yet. That's what was setting off my notifications. Weird though that even after disabling Light Flow it keeps flashing, and weird that it was white instead of cyan like it's supposed to be.

Sorry for wasting your time. I totally forgot I didn't have a sim card so Light Flow was making the LED flash because it thought I had no signal.
Still weird that it keeps flashing even after I disable Light Flow, and that it's white instead of cyan like it's supposed to be.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your help! It works fine right now. I'm not too sure how the cycle thing works yet. I've tried it with a red slow flash for low battery and a green fast flash for whatsapp but the result is the LEDs flashing kinda "through" each other. Naturally, with different flash rates, I guess.
Quick question for people. For the last couple of updates I've been getting quite a lot of reports of certain notification types not working. Hangouts, emails (not gmail), whatsapp etc
I know that all the types that people are having issues with have been using the notification listener (quite a few stock apps don't use it), has anyone else been seeing this. I'm trying to track it down, but I can't recreate it and the beta testers haven't been able to either. Just interested to work out how much of an issue it is as I've never had reports of this before.
Hey Andrew,
I tested the color cycle for textra app, and google voice. I purposely got both notifications with the screen off and waited for the colors to cycle. It started off cycling both colors, but the cycle was not consistent. For example, the colors were red and blue. It would show like this- blue....red....blue..red..blue..red....red....red....red....red
The time between colors was not consistent, then eventually one color took over. I have the setting to 'cycle all - medium' under battery settings. Have not tested under charge settings yet. I am not using the 'highest priority' or 'show latest' options.
This isn't a deal breaker, but would like to bring to your attention.
Thanks!

I use it for WhatsApp, BBM, Hangouts all w/o issue on my stock N5. My only complaint is the perma-notification in the notification tray. Can't seem to get rid of it with any of the options in settings. Wasn't an issue with older versions (I'm using the latest)
Ive been using lightflow on my N5 and it's working well
I have multiple notifications set up - all set for 'permanent' rather than flashing. I have turned EMAIL notifications OFF
however - sometimes, I am not entirely sure when, I notice a white (slightly bluish?) blinking LED. I can't figure out what causes this. I suspect it MAY be email (exchange email, not gmail) - but I am not sure - I can't reproduce consistently.
Also, sometimes when I do a 'test model' on SMS apps, no LED lights up. I've stopped using "SMS Apps" and now am using "Hangouts" as a notification instead and that seems to work
Had 2 hours full wakelock on lightflow this morning -from the minute I unplugged from charge
very strange
Isn't the white light you're seeing the default LED color? Whenever I get a Gmail or Exchange mail it blinks white. I don't have Light Flow installed.
Yes I think it is the standard light. however with lightflow that's not meant to occur.
either way it appears to have stopped now.. not sure how/why!
Try turning off your LED notifications in each program and just have Light Flow control them. That should stop the default white light from showing.

Hey Andrew, Great work on this app. It is fantastic and I was happy to upgrade to the full version.
Just wanted to share that I have the lingering notification scenario also. essentially I get a few notifications and once I clear them out and the screen turns off, the light continues to blink. It is usually the last notification that came in (I have different colours set and I can tell that what sticks is what came in last).
To be honest, I wonder if it is Kit Kat not clearing out the notification and the issue has nothing to do with LF. Interestingly another way to clear the issue is to bump the notification with another real one, and then accept that notification (i.e. light still blinks without any active notification, I call the phone and miss the call, it blinks for the missed call, I clear that, and we are back to normal)
Hope this might have helped.
Anyone able to get the Camera Light LED/flash to work? The one on the back.
I enabled it in setting and I've tried all the other ones not officially supported too with no success.
Also had the notification light not dismissing problems too. But I'm thinking I got it figured out now. Hasn't happened since.
Am I going crazy, or is there no way to stop notifications from waking the screen? Everytime I get any sort of notification, my screen wakes up to display the notification on the lock screen, and then goes back to sleep a second later. I would like to turn this off and it drains battery.

I have tried to find a solution for this, but I haven't been able to. I am guessing it is just unconfigurable behaviour of the Samsung messaging app.
Yep. I installed 8sms and Textra. Both allow you to disable the screen wake. Decided on 8sms for the long haul.
Help
Ok, so I am also irritated by the same issue with the screen waking up every time I get a text. My phone is usually in my pocket, and by trying to take it out to see the text, my camera or dial screen is opened cause I touched it while the screen was on. I have tried downloading Textra, Handcent, and 8sms to use instead, but in every one of those, when I try to send a photo, it fails, and I have dug through all the settings in those apps as well. I can send them on the stock messaging app just fine.
Has anyone found out how to turn the screen wake up off yet, or what am I missing on the other apps that is preventing pictures to send?
The other thing that is bothering me is that in the stock messaging app, it is displaying a call back # on every text I receive. Is there a way to turn this off?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
-Nick
I'm also trying to find the solution to this. G920I with Vodafone Australia.
Did anyone find a resolution to this issue? My phone turns on with every notification, not just sms.
I don't have my phone on me, but check settings > lockscreen and security > Show information or
settings > lockscreen and security > other security settings > notification access
I disabled all lock screen notifications and the screen still turns on randomly. I thought it may have been facebook so I disabled notifications then uninstalled the app with no luck. This problem is very annoying to say the least, when I go for a run I take my phone to stream music etc and can end up taking a few hundred pics of my pocket; lol.
Yeah I've this problem too, samsung didn't include the option to disable it :\
Are you saying there is no way to stop the screen from coming on?
Doesn't look like you can disable it, sadly. Nothing stock in touchwiz that gives that functionality. Or am I wrong? I just searched the entire settings on my phone..

another annoyed user, looking for a solution
The inability to prevent the wake-up is annoying not only because of the instant battery usage, but because when the phone is in pocket it then causes all kinds of mispresses which lead to unintended app openings, changes, and screen staying on much longer. Samsung needs to provide option to disable screen wake on notification.
Samsung we have f#%$*ng RGB LED for notification!

I remember asking about this in a thread a long time. Ago. Good news, (if the other suggested fixes aren't working), I know how to fix this. First, you have to be rooted (naturally). 2nd, install another text app, I just use google's Messenger text app, nice and basic and I like it. Open that app and let it set itself as default or do it manually in settings. That step might not be necessary, but should do it just in case or possibly be left with no text app by accident. Finally, go to system > priv-app > SecMms_Delight-Open > Copy the app which is our stock messaging app and it has the screen wake function built in and paste it somewhere else like a backup folder in the priv-app directory so you know where it goes back to. Delete the app inside the SecMms-Delight-Open directory and reboot. You'll notice the yellow stock messaging app is gone from desktop and app drawer and now when you get a text, no screen wake! :good:
This annoyed me quite a bit because for a living I deliver catering orders and each time I get an order, it sends a text to let me know to check the browser for order info. So I was getting like 12 to 20 texts a day in addition to all the normal texts from friends and family. It was waking a lot!
I wish the build my edge came on was rootable. Sad face for sure. No root, no downgrade, no happy.
Hi guys,
I'm having problems with getting messenger notifications. Sometimes I just don't get them, only after half an hour. It happens when the phone screen is off and I don't use it. However other apps notifications arrive.
And sometimes I get the messenger notifications in wrong order and it's very annoying.
I tried to solve it by setting the app start to manual but it didn't help.
I hope you can help solving this.

Click to collapse
whats your app launch settings
for me when i go to app launch and click the blue tab the choices i leave is
auto launch on
secondary launch on
run in background on
then i press ok.
Thanks
I can recommend keeping the app you've got issues with open in the recents window. Swipe them down to "lock" them which should make sure they aren't automatically closed. That fixed my issues with WhatsApp without changing any other options.
Okay
Thanks
