Simple ROM and Device compatibility question - General Questions and Answers

I have a Nexus 4 running on 4.4.2 update base ROM. I've unlocked and rooted my phone, with multiple root tests to be sure. I've also downloaded the Franco kernel. Though its not working, so I assume its cause its a nightly version. From the information I've found those don't always work.
Back to my question though. My devices is a Mako, which goes along with being a Nexus 4 right. So why is it when I downloaded the cyanogenmod mako latest ROM it didn't work? Came up with an error comparing device and product as being mako, and some status 7 thing. I did a restore and now I'm here.
I've tried to install it view clockwork recovery, and from the ROM manager app. Both came up with those errors. Am I doing something wrong?

[ROM] Pure AOKP

First I would like to say that I don't take any credit for this ROM. I am not a dev just simply providing the links to a stock AOKP ROM.
http://androtransfer.com/?developer=AOKP&folder=grouper
All thanks goes to AOKP team and their outstanding work!
Of course, I don't take responsibility for damaged devices, but this is xda so I'm sure we can get it up and running in no time.
- Includes ROM control (kang from aokp)
- Includes AOKP toggles
- Lock screen options, battery and navigation customizations
- Root with SuperSu
- Stock Browser
You will need to flash your own gapps, which can be found here ( just download latest jb version):
http://goo.im/gapps/
This ROM is basically yours to customize from the ground up so Enjoy!
1. Wipe data / factory reset and cache/dalvik.
2. Flash ROM then gapps.
3. (Optional) Flash preferred kernel.
4. System Reboot and Enjoy the reasons why we all use android.
Those who want tablet ui take a look here. All you need is a rooted nexus 7 and file explorer to edit build.prop

Been running this for a few hours. Really impressed by the number of customizations but it feels a bit laggier than the rest of the roms.
Edit: I think it's just me.

Installed and running nice and smooth for me.
Won't boot with motley's 1.1.1 (had the same issue with the previous builds).

Yes.
Ok, so it did not boot on motley 1.1.1 but booted on Clemsyn's 1.8 kernel. Wonder what the deal is.
Can anyone else verify that this will not boot on Motley 1.1.1?
I just flashed motley 1.1.1 and it booted for me. Try wiping cache and dalvik.

I re-downloaded and got it to boot. Not sure why that worked as I was using the previous download with PA.
I do notice a little tear in the splash screen when using motley/Clemsyn, probably when the GPU OC is activated.
Also, the lockscreen battery percentage seems to be stuck on 100%.
I came from pa ROM too, just flashed both kernels, and lock screen shows the correct percentage for me.
-------------------------
When I first boot the lockscreen is stuck at 100 but after the apps load it recalculates and works on my device.

No problems here. Running Trinity Kernel wiht OC GPU and OC to 1.6 Ghz and runs smooth as. Battery could improve a bit but its still first build.
Love the customization options on AOKP!!

[Q] Fusion Kernel issue after installing a newer cm build

Trying to install the latest version of aokp(4.1) on the one S..... Prior to 4.1, had no issues with the fusion kernel (2.0)....
Because of the wifi driver being built from source now Fusion ultimate AOSP will break wifi on newer CM builds . Klin1344 suggest using the new kernel since it's much improved and faster...:good:
So I followed the installation instructions on the AOKP Jellybean build 4.1.
Installs great... The kernel switchs from fusion to the new one and WIFI works... as soon as I reboot and it reverts back to the fusion kernel and lose WIFI... I literally need to fastboot the boot.img from rom.zip after every reboot and its driving me crazy.
What do I need to do to prevent the kernel from switching back after reboot? I also tried installing the cm 10 nightly that has a different kernel and it does the same thing. I had a back up( my only backup since my old computer died) with the Fusion Kernel 2.0 with unofficial AOKP Jellybean 4 on it and i have no current issues with this build besides the video glitches.
Cm10 now uses a unified kernel for the one xl ,one s and evo lte. It is also using a open source WiFi module now. Fusion is not using the new kernel source and is not compatible

So how do I install aokp 4.1 if I have the fusion kernel installed on aokp 4? As soon as install 4.1 , the new kernel works and then as soon as I reboot the phone it seems to revert back to the fusion kernel

Anyone ? Really want to remove this kernel ... please help

What you're saying doesn't really make sense. When you flash one kernel, it erases the one installed previously. I'm guessing you are not really flashing the kernel properly in fastboot.
Trying to install the latest version Cm10 ......any build prior to October 1st , had no issues with the fusion kernel...I understand that because
of the wifi driver being built from source now Fusion ultimate AOSP will break wifi on newer CM builds . Obviously I want to update to the latest build and update the kernel ..
my problem is after I install the latest build , The kernel switches from fusion to the new kernel and WIFI works. Then as soon as I reboot and it reverts back to the fusion kernel and lose WIFI completely... I literally need to fastboot the boot.img from rom.zip after every reboot and its driving me crazy.

Does that make more sense

So you're saying that without intentionally flashing the fusion kernel it is reflashing itself every time you reboot? Doesn't sound right..
Delete the fusion kernel zip from your phone then reflash the Rom, forget about the kernel.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
Yeah so I've deleted the fusion zip from the SD card, but its installed in the current rom(aokp 01 10) then I follow the installation instructions for both cm 10 nightly 10 09 and aokp 10 08 as usual .... I've tried flashing the boot.iMG in fastboot first then flashing the rom.zip and also flashing the rom.zip then fastboot the boot.img .... the new kernel is there until I reboot and them fusion reappears as the installed kernel and no more Wi-Fi

Wild guess here... Your'e not confusing fastboot boot boot.img with fastboot flash boot boot.img? The former would just tell your phone to boot using the boot.img, the latter will flash it permanently to the boot partition.

SPH-L170 d2spr update/upgrade Cynagenmod & gaaps

OK so I rooted my sprint galaxy s3, and installed cynagenmod with the current gaaps(at the time).
I have upgraded cynagenmod several times through
>settings>about phone>CynagenMod updates
At one point I stopped running cm updates because goomanger prompted me of a new version of gaaps. I was not sure if I needed the current gaaps to also update to a newer release of cynagenmod.
I am currently running
10.1-20130304-EXPEREMENTAL-d2spr-M2
I would like to upgrade to
10.1.2 (stable build)
I have TWRP as my recovery,
Can I just flash both the upgrade for cm and gaaps and not have to reset my phone?
I am not sure if I need to do a full fresh install, because I recall various upgrades making changes to the boot partition.
So I guess I am looking for the proper procedure to upgrade/update cm and gaaps.
When a fresh install is necessary, and the order in which gaaps needs to be installed..., before? simultaneously? Or after?
thanks

[Q] XT926 won't boot after installing cyanogenmod

I am trying to install my first custom ROM on my XT926 ota kk 4.4.2 rooted bootloader unlocked. I have cwm 6.0.4.4 and I have tried installing cm 10.2 stable and then I tried cm 11 snapshot and it says it has installed .zip files successfully but when I reboot it just hangs up on the M logo and I have to restore my ota to get my phone to reboot, any help would be appreciated, thanks.
I believe most of the Roms in the Dev forum are still using 4.1.2 base, which means you cant flash them unless you go back to jb first.
There are some 4.4 test builds around you could flash on kk, sorry I don't have the link to them.

I tried one of the cm 11 ROMs from cyanogenmod's website, are you saying that those are also designed for the 4.1.2 kernel? If so does anyone have any suggestions on how to revert back to the jelly bean kernel, Also I was wondering if its OK to download the custom rom.zip file directly to the phone and put it in the right directory instead of moving it from the computer.
Unless they were updated to 4.4 source in the last week, I would say they are still on jb source. Most of the Roms you will find are a jellykat mix.
I posted a guide in the general forum, near the bottom you will find a pre-edited jb file you can use to flash with rsd.
Yes you can DL Roms right to your phone if you wish.

Paranoid android problems

I'm currently running Rooted 4.4.2 with Franco and xposed. I created an nandroid and downloaded paranoid 4.41 and gapps and flashed em both, and after numerous attempts I can't get mobile data to work, no 3g or anything. I'm now back on 4.4.2... Anyone have this problem.
Mine works fine. Are you sure your APN info is correct?
