[Q] Live Icons and Memory Content - Windows Phone 8x by HTC

Hello guys.
I was wondering two things.
1st; the live icons (moving icons) on the home screen, how can I turn them on?
and 2nd;
Whatever new folder i do,when I connect the phone into the PC,it doesen`t show up on the phone.
For example,if I make a new folder named "xapps" and put into it some xap file,or if i make a folder named "documents" and put inside some stuff, like pdf files or something,I can`t see it on the phone.
I was wondering if there is some File manager ,like on Android, that shows me the memory content on the HTC Windows Phone 8x ,with at I can browse the files and folders I create when I am connected to the PC.
Thanks in advance,
Kiko.

File Explorer Problem - Too Slow

Hi all,
When I use File Explorer to open the Windows folder in my Touch Cruise, it took very, very friggin' long time to load all the files. Is this normal and is there anyway to solve this?
I need to open the Windows folder so I can put themes file .tsk in it. My PC's Vista's Autosync can not access this folder on desktop.
Pls help.
Thanks.
try total commander, it's much faster
For me too windows folder very slow,
in default explorer and in resco explorer same slowness
But i think its ok cause windows folder have about 4000 files and now manila2d adds about 450 files so it takes time for explorer to read them all and to show all files info
*in resco explorer there is option "send to" for any file so i configure "send to windows" and i click any file and can send to windows folder without opening it, and resco can even overwrite read only and rom files - its my solution for this problem, before i found resco i preferred to not accessing windows folder at all....
and themes can be stored in my documents folder or sd card its not important where to put .tsk themes

Click to collapse
But if theme files stored in My Documents or SD card, they won't be listed in Settings/Today/Themes. Only if they reside in Windows folder they will appear there. Pls confirm if I miss anything.
I may be wrong, but try clearing out the errors and duplicates in your notifications queue. Doing so helped my file explorer speed a gread deal when browsing the windows folder. It went from something along probably 30seconds or so to 7 seconds.
Hi,
I'm suffering from the same problem. Listing the Windows directory takes about 40s. It used to take about 4s before instalation of Manila 2D. I've uninstalled Manila but the problem persists. I haven't noticed any left file nor missing free space on the flash or functionality, everything seems to be back as before but the Windows directory still takes about 40s to list and therefore the whole system is slowed down.
Could you please specify how to clear notification queue?
Or any other idea what can be wrong?
Could this be a filesystem problem? As I noticed the same behaviour with any application which installs to the Windows directory, the only difference is the amount of seconds which it adds
Thank You.
EDIT: I've already cleared notification queue but it didn't helped at all. Still looking for a solution.

Troubles with winmo 6

I have bought a htc tilt and I am wanting to dress up the today screen. I saw the retro clock and I downloaded it to my laptop, but I cannot seem to push it through to my cell phone. Any help would be appreciated, please.

if it's in a cab format than copy the cab to your device and install the cab from your device.
Send it over to your device from your commputer either throubh activesinc (when connected) or WIFI for those who have it, or Bluetooth.
Over Activesinc - Just connect device to computer (Assuming activesinc already installed and set up - if not then do so) then go to my computer, find mobile device and explore it as you would any drive. Then you can just find where you want to place the cab for installation on your device - I create a folder called install - and copy and paste it to the folder- once the cab is on your device - just tap on it to start installing it.
I have noticed that through WIFI, I can just go to view the shared folder on my desktop with my device over the network, click on the cab and it installs on the device even though the cab is not on the device but only on the desktop.
Thank you for the information. I cannot find cab. What does cab mean? This is my first all microsoft phone with vista laptop. I just don't understand the terms.
If I extract a cab file, what have I just done? Where is it at at that point? I know that eventually I want it on my phone. What is the next step toward delivery on the phone? When I check the windows mobile device center there is nothing there to import? to phone. Is there a missing step somewhere between the cabinet file extact and the windows mobile device center? I'm trying to think this through.
Don't extract it, just copy. You are "exporting" not importing.
Go here for how to install a cab
Exactly = Don't do anything with the cab except for transfer it to your device. On your desktop a cab looks like a zip file or a rar file. You might be tempted to unpack it but don't - All you will see is a bunch of stuff that doesn't make sense- Just send it to your device and then tap on it or click it to start installation. Most apps are in cab form; however, some are in exe form and must be installed to your device via your computer through activesinc. Just check the extension - it will either be .cab or .exe
I think I might have sent it to my phone, there were 6 files and when I attempted to send to my phone it said send to phone documents. Where is the phones documents at? I am looking in programs and settings on my phone and I don't see the documents. How can I know where I or if I sent it? Man, I can't believe I've worked all day on this.
stop thread please. I give up. Thank you all who really tried to help me.
Ronald Quint -Documents is in the first tier of folders - Just open file explorer and if you need to click the up soft key (bottom left of screen) then scroll until you see documents - There is also storage card documents if you search through your storage card. I created a special folder just for sending files over, and then move them around afterwards. I created a folder called "install" and send my cabs there. Then I just have to navigate (using file explorer) to the install folder and there is everything I just sent over - Music I send to my music folder however, and movies to my movies folder - to save time. It sounds like you unpacked the cab and sent the files to your device. What you can do is
1. using your computer - open the cab to see what is inside
2. using your device - use search to find each individual file which was sent to your device. (you will find them all in the same place)
then start deleting them
(you could just forget it and leave them be (it shouldn't cause any harm) and just resend the cab to your device (pay attention to where you are sending it. - use file explorer to navigate to where you sent the cab and then click it to install.. Once installed - you can delete the cab from your device.

managing program folders

I am flabbergasted: I can't find a way to manage the folders in Programs. How do I create an application sub folder and how do I move applications into it? This should be intuitive but I just don't find it. Thanks for your help
Using a file explorer (I use Resco), navigate to Windows>Start Manu>Programs. Then Menu>New Folder. You can then move or copy shortcuts as you wish. If you're going to be doing a lot of this, you can also just do it from your PC via Activesync>Exlplore or by using a remote control program like Pocket Controller.
thanks emesbe, but I probably wasn't clear: what I am trying to manage is the icons in "Programs" (e.g. Media, Tools, Games...). How do I move applications in or out? How do I create a new folder of applications?
We may be ships passing in the night here, but I think the answer I gave you is what you are looking for. "Programs" is in the Start Menu subdirectory in Windows. You can rename, move or create new folders in Programs and then put whatever shortcuts you want into them.
It took me a while to figure out what you meant. I still find the process very unintuitive. But thanks a lot
Consider Using A PC
If you have a PC configured with Activesync, why not use it to make the changes. It's a lot easier using a mouse and keyboard, and the familiar Windows interface over Resco or Total Commander.
If you don't want to sync your Fuze to the PC, that's OK, just click cancel on the first PC popup, and you can still "explore" the device from your PC.
Then, from the Activesync window on the PC, click explore, navigate to Windows (takes a while to load) / Start Menu, and move things around to your heart's content using your mouse.
Some files or folders may be marked read only or system. You can sometimes change this from the PC using right-click/properties. Sometimes, you will need to use Resco or TC from the device to change these attributes, but you can then drag/drop from the PC.

Where to put the .tsk file on a MDA Vario IV??

Hello all,
I'm kinda new to this forum and also new to the windows mobile users. Last week I got my 1st smartphone ever. It's the MDA Vario IV.
Im now trying to change the interface a bit, cuz I got the ugly t-mobile interface. I've already put the black HTC TouchFlo3d on it.
Now I want to put a black Windows Mobile theme on it.
I downloaded the .tsk file, and now I got told that I have to put this
into my Windows dir on my phone. The problem is, i can't find a Windows directory. I did a search on both my phone and pc to look for .tsk files, but can't find any, so I can't locate the Windows dir.
I checked settings/personal/today and I got some themes installed for Windows Mobile, but just can't find them. Can anybody help me please?
Im using Windows Vista btw.
on ur phone in the file explorer it should open "my documents as default, just above the list of files to the top right (under the windows logo) it should have an icon of a phone and the word my documents if you tap this word a drop down menu will pop down and show some locations
My device
my documents(with a dot to the left)
then a line the any extra storage you have
click on my device
now you should see a new list of files
application data
connmgr
documents and settings
etc
the last file should be windows, click this and paste the .tsk file in there
Many tnx to u jayjay8585! It worked, ur my hero!

Files and folder inaccessible

Hi all,
I’m having a weird problem with my HTC Diamond.
I have 1,5 GB of MP3’s on my Diamond, organized in folders.
Recently one of the folder has become inaccessible (via the phone, active sync and the USB drive mode). I cant play the files or delete them.
All the other files and folder are fine.
Does anyone know how this happened and how i can delete these files.
Thanks Gino
