Nexus 5 unable to authorize - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My friend got a new nexus 5 and for some reason the window that usually pops up to authorize the computer does not show up. Tried different cables, debugging is enabled, tried hard reset, software is updated. My nexus connects and authorizes fine. Inability to authorize is preventing us from being able to flash custom recovery. I was able to boot device into bootloader mode and unlock it though, but no luck when it is booted. Any ideas?

Yes, you know how a window would popup asking to reject or accept when debugging is enabled? That window never comes up. So, apps like nexus root toolking or most adb commands do not work.

You may need to run your pc without antivirus and firewall.. Right click a program and select run as administrator..

Sounds like you don't have the latest adb&drivers. This happened to me also. Those can undoubtedly be found somewhere on here by searching.

Not just the drivers, use a newer adb too. If that doesn't work you can clear the authorized devices on the phone and there is also a file located on your computer that I think needs to be deleted also.
My nexus was really picky on the debug 'handshake' whereas I had to remove all authorized computers/delete the file on my pc and use the newest adb and drivers - and even then I had to reboot the phone first (once everything was cleared) and use the newest adb & drivers to make it work right.

It's not clear what state your phone is in but if you can boot and have root mobile odin should work.

You can try to flash the below official ICS Stock roms via CWM, then try to reconnect with PC to flash via ODIN for complete stock.

Do you have the necessary drivers installed on the pc? Try installing Kies on the pc. It will install the proper drivers for you.

Yes i have installed keis i even downloaded the drivers straight from the Samsung website too. Everytime i connect my phone to the computer(any computer) it says usb not recognized/malfunction. I have read many threads about how to fix this but none have worked for me. Im thinking about returning this phone because its still under warranty but its rooted.

Works fine but i connect my phone to my comp for backing up files and flashing you know that kinda stuff. I wonder what could if caused it. I remember it started when I was using fb app and it suddenly just shut off and wouldnt come on. When I tried to charge it because it seem like it was dead it would keep vibrating over and over again just like boot looping. Even now if phone is off and I connect the charger it won't show the battery meter but automatically turn it self on. So I think I'll have to send it to att warranty.

USB debugging & download mode not working

I have an infuse on uclb3 and I decided to flash aokp. I downloaded the rooted heimdall package and my phone wont show up in download mode.
So I decided to root on PC but USB debugging wont show up at all. Any ideas?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
So you are in ulcb3 stock without root or cwm right?
You made sure your phone was entering download mode when trying to use heimdall?
Edit: in settings > applications> development there should be an option to toggle usb debugging on or off

I know both of those but the adb icon in the top doesn't show up and download mode doesn't show up in Odin or heimdall
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Sorry I'm not quite understanding you :/
An adb icon where exactly?
For odin or heimdall to detect your phone you must first place it in download mode by:
-Remove battery and put it back.
-While holding vol up and down, connect your device to the Pc
If it still does not recognize your device then it could be the drivers
Sent from my sweet and buttery Infuse
I got drivers installed and I can connect and transfer files just debug/download modes don't work or something

Okay, so you say you are trying to root your device.. using superoneclick?
You made sure you have usb debugging on? Does the program return any error?
Please I need you to be as detailed as possible to be able to tell what is happening and to be able to give you better assistance.
Edit: agreed, if it is on it should appear right next to the "usb connected" when your phone is connected to a Pc. You double checked it is switched On in settings?
Sent from my sweet and buttery Infuse
I'm not using super one click just adb for temp root usb connected woeks
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
May I ask why you want temp root instead of fully rooting it?
To obtain temp root through adb is a bit complicated and it requires using a series of commands to push our phones exploit and run it from within.

Strange.. Well that leaves us with odin or heimdall..
If after entering download mode neither of them still recognize it, then the problem could be the usb cable or the usb port

Bad Bootloader in Nexus S 4G

Hi, I made a bad flash bootloader I put in my Nexus S 4G a Bootloader.img of korean version. Now I'm not root and my USB can't set connection. All things are working less USB and CDMA radio. I can start in fastboot mode and download mode but the usb connection is broken. I tried to follow this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1566475 but when I opened my nexus s 4G the electronics things was in different side. I made a USB to UART converter and I could see a linux debugger and a state console and sent me a message such as: The bootloader are not ready to start a USB connection. As I have a Android 4.0.4 working now I'm waiting a Jelly Bean Updated to patch a new Bootloader image. What do you recommend me to fix it?
Flash this.

Thanks you very much but I don't have CWM recovery and it can start in fastboot mode but my PC(Windows MAC and Linux) doesn't recognize it when I plug in it. I thing the protocol USB is broken for the bad bootloader for this reason I can't set connection with fastboot or download mode.

You need to re-install the universal drivers for that device as well, no matter if you installed for another previously. Happened to me with 3 nexuses 5 at home.
So do I just remove the old drivers then plug in my new n5 then let it do its magic? Or install it myself on Android sdk

Yep, uninstall. If you got google drivers or universal naked drivers, install them
It makes the regular USB sound when plugged in then immediately makes like a awkward different sound after assuming that it's not recognize man I need to do this before school tommorow
