What application have to work with the radio? I'm looking for one better of the stock but I don't find anyone. ?
I use TuneIn Radio from the Google store, works very well for me.
Works with the antenna earphones of the phone?
I use TuneIn as well, it streams radio stations from the web, its great... Doesn't use the headphones as it streams instead.

Ok tanks to both. But I'm looking for a app which works with the antenna earphones of the Moto G. Anyway tanks.

Try with SpiritFM or Motorola's app
Thanks Alberto97 I will try SpiritFM one more reason for root my phone. Do you think exist a app which no need root?
Check the thread it for Spirit FM. You will see that it is the only app that isn't part of a manufacturer's stock ROM. It's hard to do FM radio because the methods used on each phone are not well documented.
So, as a result, Spirit FM is the only independently developed radio app. The rest use internet.

test new FM radio, it works for me
Thanks mrcorey I had not thought of that it's a good explanation.
Thanks albstime, but you refers to the app stock of the Moto G?

Hi all
I was seriously considering purchasing the nexus s when i saw that theres no mentioning of radio, and for someone who listen to radio a lot it kinda disappointed me.
is it true? will i have no radio if i buy the nexus s?
i guess you mean FM-Radio...
after all i read, is the chip fm-enabled, but the OS is not. so you would probably have to wait like on the Nexus One till some guys enable the FM software sided with an app or so!

Personally, I don't care about the FM radio, but your suggested solution isn't a complete one for a few reasons:
1) iHeart doesn't include all FM stations, pandora doesn't include any, I'm not sure Wunderradio has them all either (do all stations simulcast on the net?).
2) I think a full time data connection streaming is going to use more juice than an FM radio receiver. iHeart chews through my battery pretty quickly.
3) An FM radio should receive a signal in places that you may not get a stable data connection.
All the other options available to us are the reason I don't care about FM radio (commercials suck on FM radio), but for some it's still the preferred choice (maybe they like a particular DJ or morning crew...
Yes, i mean FM radio and i kinda listen to it a lot. This is realy disappointing to me. I also assume that enabling the chip means i will have to root the phone in order to use it right? which is something i also didnt want to do... guess i will have to wait for the next phone to come, choose something else or just compromise on the FM radio which is unlikely

Yes, the i9000 does, out of the box. I think the Vibrant (T-Mo version) does, too.
I found this great Android app 'TuneIn Radio' on AppBrain: http://www.appbrain.com/app/tunein.player
This Should Help... All Radio Stations should be there and all it uses is Data.. For Free! Yay! =)

Anyone out there know of a working fm tuner? I tried the Bionic version with no luck.

This phone lacks the necessary hardware for fm tuner
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that the Snapdragon processor supports the FM tuner but the software does not... If you were able to flash a custom kernel that supported it then it should work no problem. It's just that Google doesn't like FM tuners for some reason... same problem that the Nexus 4 had.

I am not 100% of where I can reference this, but I am a BIG FM radio listener during college football season, and when this was last brought up I believe the issue is that the hardware, while present, is hard coded OFF in the firmware by Verizon.
No amount of modding can turn it on, short of unlocking the bootloader.

My point exactly. You would have to flash a modified kernel that supports FM tuning. I think a lot of it has to do with the Google Play Music store and their online radio stations that they offer.
TuneIn Radio has completely destroyed FM radio for me. Even on my Moto G, it just sounds clearer.

I agree that is sounds clear and clean. But inside a stadium, trying to listen to play by play, a 8 second delay does more harm than good.
There is a spot for internet radio, but also FM radio as well

If that's your main reason for it, I can see that being a big factor.
Don't know if you're willing to invest in other stuff, but the Sansa Clip is about $20-30 now and can play/record FM radio pretty well.

I have a portable HD radio and iPad nano that both handle FM nicely. But I would love to only have to carry one device.
I just hate that Big Red continues to cripple devices to push data driven services, and then cap the data. I mean, they are making money hand over fist, but it's still annoying.
this is an old thread, but since we are now bootloader unlockable, is this FM radio thing a possibility?
I know that you all will probably say "you can't have an FM radio on the Moto X because it doesn't have the antenna." but in fact it still requires that you use headphones even on the Moto G. So if anyone could please get the moto G radio app that would be awesome!
It will need to be deodexed and what not most likely.

Coming soon but it is useless.
Edit
I have taken it down. If someone wants to prove it works I will put it back.
Anybody get it to work?

moto x doesn't have the hardware for radio fm
Better try TuneIn Radio
As Moto X hasn't the necessary hardware to get working the radio, you better try TuneIn Radio for this. Works flawless and you can choose the streaming radios.
New update has enabled fm radio finally !!!

I think any fm radio app will require headphones, since they are used as the antenna to receive the fm signal ( the Snapdragon 820 SoC can process the fm signal, but needs the headphone wires to be the antenna). You can bypass the audio from the headphones, however, to the speakerphone. I haven't tried yet, but perhaps the audio can be bypassed via bluetooth as well...?
Well, fark! I'll be a bluetooth only monkey. Anything else I'm missing out? My Edge is still "optimizing" apps. Does anybody else, besides me love, that the phone is called the "Edge"? Marketing genius for a geek like me!
I did receive the update two days ago, but I can't use the NextRadio app because it says "This app isn't available in your country". Can anybody here share the apk of NextRadio?

Thanks for all your answers!

I would like to receive fm radio too!
Apparently the Snapdragon has FM radio functionality built-in out of the box.
How do we enable it?
Have you tried the root app Spirit2? I've got it working on a Z3C 6.0.1. I haven't seen many reports on later Sony devices. It's likely not to work though if something's changed as it's no longer under development and the creator passed away.

Did Sony ground the pins or is the hardware fully functional?
I tried NextRadio but it doesn't support Sony devices...
I believe that the premium doesn't have fm tuner.
At least my G8142 doesn't. I have also a Z3v which does have fm tuner but the "awesome" verizon ( to do not say a bad word) has blocked it, but we can see it on the service menu and test it as well.
Just dial
*#*#SERVICE#*#*
And go to the service test menu and look if you have it. (I bet no because before I had bought mine I researched it and at least for the 8142 wasn't available but as far as I remember the 8141 was also unavailable)
Cheers
Sux. FM radio is free and no data usage
