[Q] MP3/FLAC Player Advice - General Questions and Answers

Okay so this has quite a large back story so please bear with me. I started out with and ipod touch 4G 8gb a few years ago and the sound quality was pretty good. The reason I hated it was because the capacity was terrible i needed something that could hold everything (i mean like whole discographys). So i sold this and grabbed myself an iPod Classic 160GB. In a way i was slightly disappointed, the battery life is great, the interface is fine the capacity is great but honestly i think the 2009 sound card does take alot off in the form of sound quality, the ipod touch is significantly better in sound quality. So i then started looking in to android mp3 players as i currently have a Galaxy S4 and the quality is perfect, but i dont like the idea of using my phone for music as i dont really treat my mp3's with respect like i do my phone and battery life ect, so i was looking at the samsung galaxy 5.0 when i noticed its actually cheaper to buy a phone nowadays than a galaxy 5.0. So here i am now, what i want is:
Can play mp3 and FLAC
has a great sound card (so i can use in headphones, amps, car pioneer system)
has reasonable storage 64GBish (or micro sd slot)
pretty easy to use (can change songs whilst driving)
reasonable battery life (am around usb ports all the time so not the end of the world)
not fragile (can chuck in pockets and not have to worry about it imploding)
reasonably inexpensive im talking arounf £150 mark
please help me out with suggestions, and sorry to ramble, thanks - Harry

Sony DRBT50 and HTC Touch Diamond

After quite a bit of research into which headsets were the most comfortable, had the best sound quality and decent autonomy I chose the Sony DRBT50, found a seller on Ebay and ordered them...
Now, to make a long story a little shorter let's just say that they seem to have gotten lost somewhere between here and Germany and I'm going to be given a refund (thank [insert your divinity here] I took the insurance) and the seller has told me that if he was in my shoes, he wouldn't buy a Bluetooth headset as they don't offer anywhere near the same sound quality as a decent wired pair...
He admitted to only having tried them with Bluetooth dongles and not devices with built-in Bluetooth like the Diamond so (here comes my question) has anyone here had any experience with these headphones in particular or any information about Bluetooth headsets in general to share with me? If you don't think that Bluetooth can provide good sound dynamics which are the best wired headphones in a similar price range (around 150)?
Thanks
---I know that some people have problems with music skipping even with wired headphones but I thankfully don't have this problem (so I don't need warning about this issue)---

I am a bluetooth stereo junkie and I have bought a lot of sony erricson bluetooth stereo.I liked DRBT50 on pics, but when I used them I felt they are really very heavy and I dint like them.Out of lot of stereos I bought, I think the best one I though is DRBT22 , which is lightweight and absolutely nice stereo.I have also used DS980, but for some reason , I just have them packed.Even those stereo sound is also good, but the battery life is only 4/5 hrs, so you have to recharge them regularly. But DRBT22 bass and trebles are really good and I like them , and also the battery life is 10 hrs which is very good. I suggest you for DS980 or DRBT22 depending on what you like.Similar to BT22, there is also DRBT21, which looks good , as you can wear from behind the neck, but I havent tried those.

I never got round to answering this...
After over a month I actually ended up receiving the headset.
The battery life is amazing and the reception's pretty good too. I can easily go about ten fifteen meters away from my phone without the signal starting to break up. Basses are good but the mids are a little lacking. The cups have a lot of padding so they're quite comfortable but not perfect as they are much smaller than I'd imagined (no I don't have big ears).
Overall, it's a decent headset that I can happily wear when taking the dog for a walk but I wouldn't recommend them to an audiophile.
If anyone wants any more details about the headset feel free to ask.

[Q] bluetooth headphones

I'm conflicted on which bluetooth headphone to go with. I'm looking to spend less than $40 with good audio quality, comfort, and battery life. So far I'm debating between the motorola S305 and the rocketfish RF-MAB2. Anyone have experience with both of these? if so pros/cons? Thanks!

He's talking about BT headphones... anyway,
I personally have both the Moto S9 and the Samsung WEP 870. I like the 870 because the buds that come with it are the sound isolating kinds and the sound quality is about 7.5/10, and that's pretty good considering its hard to find good quality stereo BT headphones...
thanks for the suggestions but i was looking to get the over the ear type (not the ones in ear since i plan to use them during running and i'd like to hear cars come up on me, feel safer than having the in ear plus i feel more comfortable wearing the over the ear too)
I bought the S305 when newegg had them on sale a few months back, 29.99 shipped. I love them, i use them all the time. I can be listening to music on my laptop while at work and if i get a call, it will switch over for me. I also use them when im working out, and they never move. Seem very comfortable to me, really good sound i think. I can get about 3 hours continuous use out of them. A couple days of sparatic on/off just watching videos at lunch or something.
Bonus: comes with a micro usb charger for them that just happens to fit my phone perfectly.
I have used the Motorola one and found it very uncomfortable.
Its more expensive then you wanted but it does allow you to use higher quality headphones or ones you already own.

External Speakers for G2

Looking at buying a set of external speakers to play Pandora on with my G2. I don't want anything that's compatible with iPods, because I don't need that stupid dock connector. Hopefully I can get something that's less than $100, has great sound, and connects to the 3.5 mm headphone jack on the G2.
Any suggestions?
Its not the prettiest, but any pair of computer speakers will do the job for cheap. I use an old 2.1 Logitech system that has a sub and the sound is great!
Thinkgeek.com has a decent protable speaker setup. There is also a Sony branded tube speaker that is supposed to be good also. Seen em on ebay.

Agreed. I believe you can get a decent set of Comp speakers at Walmart. If not there definitely Frys.
I'm currently using an older pair of computer speakers that has a sub-woofer and it works great. However, it's not the prettiest thing to look at, nor is it even remotely portable in the event I want to take them somewhere with me. Thanks so far for the suggestions, if I find something that works well I'll share it with everyone here.

this may not be what you are looking for but I have this in my backpack at all times. I use it maybe once every 2 or 3 days... Sucker it pretty loud and lasts a long time. Had it for about a year now, I'm sure you could find one on ebay for 10 bucks.
I couldn't pass up this opportunity. For anyone looking at this at a future date (considering the date of this topic already), looking for a top-notch quality external speaker for the G2 (or any other Android device at that) the X-Mini II Capsule Speaker has served me well. It provides more sound than you'd ever be able to get out of the phone, and it's really worth the money you spend on it compared to some of the other suggestions listed (such as computer speakers, which wouldn't be practical).
I reccomend the Supertooth disco --> http://www.supertooth.net/EN/DISCO/#page=page-1 It has great sound and the battery can last up to 10 hours if you let it play on medium sound. Its worth the money the sound is great and its easy to bring with you if you're going to some friends for example.

I would have to Second the X-mini 2's the sound you get from them is superb and the ability to buddy jack them is a feature that is often missed on many models
Just heard one of those new Bluetooth speakers they carry at best buy and they sound amazing. Much better than a boombox even lol. Anyways they run for about 50 bucks and they have their own rechargeable battery built in. They use micro USB to charge to so you can use the same setup you already have. I'm gonna get one you have to hear them to believe it.
bluetooth/minijack jambox set, do the work greatly.
it also have mic for conference mode.
tested with my rom, works perfectly

What portable speaker should I pick? (Sorry if I posted in wrong section)

So, I want to have a portable speaker, but what is the best speaker to buy up to 100€(euros)(can't say price in dollars). I was watching a Samsung Level Box Mini, but I dunno.... maybe in the market are better speakers...
What do I need from speaker: Bluetooth connectivity, Rechargeable battery, LOUDNESS (very loud speakers). Battery life isn't that interesting, but I want it up to 5hrs.
Maybe someone has or had experience with Samsung Level Box Mini? Or had an another speaker that would be loud and from normal company (like Samsung, Philips, Beats by Dre,etc)?
I bought a small used speaker from a shop near me
its loud as hell even though its small and has no name on it :v but its working on my s5 mini
i bought it for 8$
Nice catch!
So, no opinions or recommendations?
Bose Soundlink Mini is by far the best portable Bluetooth box on the market right now!
Many dislike Bose for their poor price/quality ratio - but with this box they just destroyed everything. 10 of 10 would buy again only to have two of them.
But is there any selling this speaker in about 100€ range?
What about picking this speaker in used condition(because it's less price-y)?
I have my bose speaker for over 2 years now. The speaker only looks slightly used, due to the extremly stable case. When you lift it, you will know the reason.
The battery is still like it was on the first day (about 5-8 hrs playtime on high volume and bt connection).
I only encountered some connection problems, when you connect too many devices to speaker - but that can be fixed easily by pressing the BT button for 5 sec for deleting the connected device history.
Trust me, with this speaker you cant do anything wrong. with this speaker you will be the king of portable soundspeakers... And no, the speaker should cost about 150€ (i bought mine for 250€ though..)
I bought these http://www.pure.com/wireless-speakers/jongo-s3x/graphite for 80$, great quality overall, wifi and bluetooth connection + AUX at the back + built-in battery.
I have a Libratone Zipp Mini, the sound is incredible, beter than my bose soundlink, andere it's cheaper, it has wifi, bleutooth aptx, aux, it has an own app where I can change the sound, like outdoor or tabel or floor. I can also change the sound Dynamics it processes. It has more than 60 watts, really loud, with a good sound mod on your phone it goes even louder without distortion because of the 2 built in amplifiers, 360 degree sound, bass is nice but not so hard bass, I like that. Battery is 5-7 hours. I picked it up at the Apple premium resellers Calles "Switch" in belgium for 250 euro's, but I think it's cheaper now. Yeah not your price range bit as an musician Igove some advice: you can better use your money for a more pricey but much better speaker with good sound. I listen Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Rory Gallagher, Jeff Buckley, John Frusciante but also electronic music, it just sounds so good. Greets Beau (very long post btw hehe )
Anker Sound Core
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-SoundCore-Playtime-Bluetooth-Portable/dp/B016XTADG2
Can't say anything about those speakers previously mentioned but without a shadow of a doubt the Anker Sound Core is the best for battery life, which if you think about it is the only reason you are getting a portable speaker. If people make the argument about better sound, that is not relevant because the soundcore doesn't sacrifice sound quality at the price of battery life. I've got the first generation Anker Sound core sitting in front of me right now, I got it in October of 2018, it's now the 16th of April 2019 and I can recall charging it possibly 3 times?
I have used it for some outdoor things at the beach over summer (southern hemisphere) and Christmas, charged it over that period. Used it on and off at medium to high volumes, certainly has a battery life that far exceeds any other device I have owned. It will outlast pretty much any thing else, while still sounding good, having no distortion that I can hear at max volume, being small enough to put in your jacket pocket.
To put it in better terms, unless you leave it running with music on it, you can be fairly sure that when you do have to charge it you won't remember the last time you charged it. That's how long it lasts. Makes sense too because anker makes batteries primarily, so that technology is ported over to their speakers. All batteries don't seem to be equal. Other portable speakers are made by speaker companies who try their hand at battery manufacturing, whereas Anker is a battery company which tried it's hand at portable speaker making. That's the only reason I can see for such a good product. Because of this, I'd say that the superior battery know how of the companys product allows the speakers in the portable speaker to be better arranged electronically than competitors speakers who have less thorough knowledge of batteries.
All I can say is that I was impressed by it, and so were other people online.

Airpods alternative?

Hello,
long time iPhone user here, last year i have been using the Airpods with my XS MAX that i sold.
I am looking for some "airpods equivelant" for my Samsung device (i got S10 and Note 10+)...i have unsuccesfully tried the Samsung Galaxy Buds, i am very dissapointed because the call quality which is the most important thing to me is not good at all, cant even compare it to the airpods...
So, what bluetooth would you recommend for everyday use, with good call quality so i can talk ?? I wouldn't like something like the old style bluetooth like Plantronics etc, i am looking for something fresh like Airpods, Galaxy Buds etc style
Airpods
You have Jabra. They have goods reviews.
From my experience, all bluetooth headsets have horrible call quality, including the Airpods. In a quiet place any would work fine, but once you go in public, it becomes really bad.
I always carry both wired and wireless headsets at the same time, just in case.
Huawei just released their Airpod clones. You could try one of those; otherwise Jabra's lineup are the best you're going to get without going into $250+ range.
Alternatively, you can just get Airpods. Even on Android, they have superior call quality, and there's plenty of apps on the Play Store that emulate the functionality it has on the iPhone or that the Galaxy Buds have on Samsung devices.
I use Cambridge Audio Melomamia 1's
Superb battery life and more subtle in the ears, I love them.

One minor annoyance about the Melomania 1 is the microUSB charging port on the case.
An alternative to consider is the Creative Outlier Air TWS. IMO, it performs better than the reviews - both from the sonic aspects (details and presence), connectivity and price point, not to mention it's USB-C and rated for 10-hr per charge (plus 20 from the case). When it comes to sound quality and connectivity, they are my favorites. I have yet to experience any connection drop in various environment with plenty of radio-noise. The button is not as convenient as others, and I had to paint the LED-ring with flat black model paint to conceal the annoying pulsating blue light when there is no active sound source, even if BT is connected.
Sony wf-1000xm3. Best in class.
Xiaomi Mi Airdots, 30$ (so cheap) and they sound really good even in calls
I bought just now an Edifier TWS-1 ~ $30 from Ali, with ship from Spain. I am satisfied with it, 8-9 hrs battery and case can charge them 3-4 times, sum 34 hrs. It has built-in mic, I think that is crap, but sound drivers are OK. I recommend it.
I ordered the Liberty 2 Pro from Soundcore. I'll let you know if they are any good.
I vote on Xiaomi Mi Airdots too, cheap and awesome sound.

THIS!
Any wireless bud can only put its microphone as close to your mouth as your ear is. In a perfectly quiet setting, this is fine, as even several inches from your mouth, the signal to noise ratio will be high, and others can likely hear you well. For the galaxy buds, they have a second mic inside the bud (but outside your sealed canal. That isn't a very good place to collect sound from your voice, but is better than having a ton of background noise covering up your talking. So they switch to the inside mic whenever the outside mic measures a lot of noise. They just do some equalization on that signal to remove most of the spectrum outside of your primary voice frequencies (especially for intelligibility). It will sound bad (robot-like), but at least the other side will likely be able to make out your words.
If you want a decent headset for calls, you need to get the mic on a boom fairly close to your mouth. That's why you see so many of the wired headset folks holding the mic close to their mouth when speaking. I too keep a wired headset with a boom just for calls. Not needed if I have my buds in and I am in a quiet room, but pretty much necessary any other time.
Airpods works fine with Android. I'm using an app called MaterialPods to check battery status etc.
Creative Outlier Air. A little pricey, but they have great battery life and their sound quality is well above their price range. I bought them for my daughter and I will buy them for myself too.

I googled them and.. I mean... They might sound good, but it would be nice if they won't look like buttplugs for your ears
OP, why not just use Airpods? They work great on Android devices, you still get the same decent AAC audio and the fit and design clearly works for you. I have some of the Melomania as well, but I use Airpods when I'm out and about.
Creative Outlier Air.
Great sound quality, highest battery endurance and very good for talking. No dropouts or connectivity problems in general with my Galaxy S10.
The buttons could have been better, but it's just a minor annoyance.
