Just bought an ASUS HD7 tablet - specs show it will take a 32gB SD. I have a 32gB SD in my Nook Color (CM7) that has a lot of music. Let's bring it over and try that on the new HD7. I unmounted the SD card on the Nook, powered off and powered off the HD7. Inserted the card and powered the HD7 on. After boot, it claimed to be "preparing the SD card for use". I thought, "Great". But, sadly no music. I inspected the SD card with ES File Expl - it identified the SD card but with only 114mB capacity. The card is mounted but shows folders with no files/sub-folders I know are there when in the Nook C.
I pulled out a brand new 32gB SD card - never been used - right out of the blister pack. Dismounted, powered down. Inserted fresh card, powered up, "Preping card - yada-yada". But this time the new card shows an even smaller 96mB capacity.
So obviously I'm missing some key Android-ness point with respect to these cards. Since I've never actually swapped them like this, I'm sort of treating them like a "USB flash or thumb drive" and maybe I shouldn't. Am I just ignorant and missing some sort of prep step or "mount this card" command? Is it possible this reader is defective? (Remember - it recognizes, mounts and unmounts without incident...) Is it a fact that I can independently move these around from device to device in Android even if my versions are different (quite different in fact)?
Any guidance appreciated.

There is no prepping required for Android to recognise SD cards. Usually, they work just as thumbdrives on a PC. The "remove hardware" process should be observed because this will ensure that any cached data will be written to the removable media and that the files are all closed.
With Android, in Settings-Storage, there is a Mount / Unmount. This is similar to add or remove the storage media, eg, SD card.
You can try this workaround. As before, when switched off, insert the SD card to the HD7 and then switch it on. Go to the Settings-Storage and you should see the SD card details. Do an Unmount, remove the SD card, wait a while and then re-insert the SD card and do a Mount. You might be able to acess the data on your SD card by now.
If this still does not work and since you had just bought the HD7, bring it to the seller and have it checked. Also bring along both your SD cards that you had tried to use, as well as the Nook so that you can prove to the seller that there is nothing wrong with the SD cards.

•Say prayer
•Android shows the desktop
•Settings // Storage
•There's the Internal Memory restored to its correct position
•While still powered on, pop IN the SD
•Another prayer
•"Preparing SD Card..."
•Poof - it shows now as the second selection
•Done
Bonus: Tablet now runs smoothly just like it was.

Im having a small problem on my HD2 upon first time boot up from being flashed to CMYLXGO's Stock Desire HD(2).
On the task bar its showing a SD card with a question mark and when i slide the task bar down it says "Damaged SD Card" and that i need to format it, I tried formating it from the phone it self but no luck
Have you tried another SD card yet? Is this your first ROM? Have you put that SD card in another phone, or if not available, an SD card reader? That could help give you some indication as to the state of the card, although I wouldn't rely on that alone to test.
I have toyed around with multiple ROMs on my HD2 and never had an SD card problem, although in the past I have had a card die when doing some modification on my G1. Also, if you are still using the 16gb card that's packaged with the TMOUS HD2, it may be a decent idea to consider replacing it anyway. It's only a class 2 card, and while that may suffice for many operations, it really suffers when you're trying to use an app like QQPlayer to apply software decoding to video.
Okay I found a solution to the problem, I tried using the SD card reader, and it was recognized on the computer, I could read and write from and to the SD card, and this is my fourth to fifth ROM I have tested on the HD2, I been trying to find the best ROM there is for it , and well I just grabbed another SD card that was lying around and.. boom it works im such a noob haha, I didnt think about it until you suggested it, but its still a class 2 SD card. I just had this similar problem with my 16 GB Class 2 microsd Card. Started happening once I created SWAP and EXT2... or 3... (can't remember) on the card for use in Android App2SD. What I did is I formated it in Windows and made sure Allocation size was set to default. Seems to have fixed my issue

The firs step is to download SD Formatter and save the file on your desktop.
Once done, eject MicroSD card from your Android phone and use a MMC card reader to connect it to the computer. You SD card will now be mounted as a flash drive.
Now make a backup of your SD card before proceeding further. You can either copy all folders and file on your SD card and move them to a hard disk folder or use some 3rd party application.
Now launch SD Formatter and click on “Options”.
In options, set Format Type Full (Erase On) and keep Format Size Adjustment OFF. Now press OK to proceed.
After this click on Format and let the application do the rest for you. Please note that Memory Cards with higher capacity will take more time and vice versa. Do not remove your SD card while formatting is taking place because this can permanently damage it.
Once the formatting is complete and you get the success notification, remove SD from MMC reader.
Now insert the card in your phone’s MicroSD slot and wait for damaged SD Card notification in the notification bar again.
Once it is there, simply tap on notification and press format.
Now wait for a minute or two, launch Settings > SD and Phone Storage > and you will be able to see your memory card’s details.
There you have it! You won’t have damaged SD card notification any more and your Memory Card will behave as it should.

I had some problem with the card reader and i accidently removed the card!! Is there any way i could get the card working?
I am having a problem finding thins in "Files" and "Astro" on Tmo GS2. This is a general ? that could happen to me or anyone on any phone, I assume, so I put here. I hope its ok
I just upgraded to a 32gb sd card class 4. I was told it was good. Its a
Sandisk. I was going for a class 10, but people said it was not only not necessary, but it would slow down occasionally ... but be fabulous with games and video
regardless of that, i then looked for a class 6 Only found no names and someone said its better to have a Sandisk at a lower class than one class higher from a no name'
Well I don't know if that has to do with my problem. I can't find things. I search, nothing. I use Astro, now this is weird. Nothing. I plug into the computer, it is listing the phone as TWO separate drives. THis has never happened to me in the past and never heard it mentioned
I am sure it is nothing wrong, but a settingn somewhere and I can get all the files combined
also, I am assuming all of those file explorers on the phone cannot look into the hard drive of the phone? Is that correct, no other excuse? And this other "drive" I am speaking of, one can only assume it is the hard drive

I have the same problem on my eeepad transformer
I bought a 32 GB microSD card from Trascendent. When I nstall apps that are supposed to be installed on the external SD card it does not do that. It goes to the internal SD card. When I sync it with my PC it shows both devices. The SD card is completely empty except for a folder that reads LostDir. How can I get the external SD working?
Any pros or mods, please correct me if needed.
The GS2 does it differently keeping them separately
You can choose on your phone which apps to store on phone or sd card. You can go to settings/apps/ and select move to sd card etc.
some, however will not go there no matter whatt
when you go to usb mode on the puter, you will see two drives show up
One is SD CARD - this is actually your PHONE
The OTHER is labeled EXT. SD CARD (for external) - This is the actual inserted sd card
On the SD Card, you will see in its contents in the computer window the external sd folder within the sd card
...even tho, on the far left (windows 7 and others) you will see the two drives listed separately
That is the best I can do. I understand it enough that it works. I may even understand it better than that but just not able to explain it

I had Memory Express where I bought my ZENFONE 2 install my ADATA 64 Gig MINI SD card. (He at first tried to install it in the wrong slot.)
I can see the external memory on the cell (it does recognize it), and even make folders, but it won't allow me to save any files to it. At the top of the screen, where all the little icons are, it shows the symbol for the SD card, but it also has an "X" on the symbol. Settings doesn't show an option for formatting the SDCard (I don't think I formatted it on my cell. Also, the guy at Memory Express, thought perhaps it was because there was no SIM card in the cell, but I don't think so.
Would appreciate some advice how to fix this issue from those of you with experience in this matter.

Is your device running on android kitkat? Kitkat powered Android phones can't write on external sd card, it's a bug... u can fix this by rooting your device.

I don't understand why My phone does not recognize my Micro SD Card. It has been like that since I bought it four years ago. It didn't work with the SD Card that came with the phone, and even when I bought another one it still didn't work. On the contrary, the card is recognizable by my computer, and when I inserted it in to the phone, using a card reader, it was recognized. But when I put it back in to the SD slot on top of the first SIM slot, it doesn't get recognized.
Please what can be done about this problem. My phone storage is already full. It is just 8GB.

I've gone through the article you referred me to. The SD card is recognizable on the computer as I did inform you in that post, so I tried reformatting the card.
But when I visited the link on formatting the SD card, I got this message: You don't have permission to access /EN/Fat32Formatter/ on this server.
So, what else can I do.
How can I find the the menu item of formatting my storage settings of Micro SD card.

I've formatted my micro SD card with the link you gave me, but the card is still unrecognizable or undetected by the phone. I remember I did the formatting about a year ago.
I am convinced that the problem is a hard ware one, considering the fact that the card can be detected by another phone and the computer. It was detected on my phone when I inserted it in to a card reader and plugged it in to my phone with the OTG cable. But when I put it back in to the SD card slot, it was not detected.
So, the question now is: what can I do now? how can I increase the storage of my phone. My phone internal storage is now full, and I cannot delete any apps.
What other methods can I try out. Or is there a way of fixing the micro SD slot?
The phone came that way. I didn't care to check the SD card slot before the warranty expired.

have you tried going on your Phone setting and searching for the word "SD"
that would show SD card size and option to format it and such
or perhaps have you tried insert other SD card or SD card socket itself has issue?
Inspect the SD bay contacts. Clean card contacts with isopropyl alcohol/cloth and don't touch them with your fingers.
Make sure it's properly seating in the phone.
Try a hard reboot the phone with the card in it.
Try another card.
Whatever app the device uses for storage control check there to see your options.
In the 10+ it's under Device Care>storage>SD card page 3 dots upper right corner.
If it gives you the option to format it, do so. You will lose any data on the card but it should functional then.
It's best to format the card in the device first before using it.
Hi, my micro sd suddenly stopped being detected by phone. Settings app pushed out a notification saying I need to format my micro sd. I tried to format it but it's stuck at 20%. I restarted my phone. Still the same message. I took it out and inserted into card reader and plugged into windows 11 computer. Everythingbis still there. I can still copy and move files of micro SD in windows 11.

Hi. Thank you for your response. I did an additional test.
I inserted the card into a card reader then plugged into my phone as otg. It worked fine. Everything was accessible.
So that concludes the card reader slot is the issue. But my question is that the card was inserted in the phone since a long time ago and i never opened the sim tray even just before it started malfunctioning. Is there a possible software issue or it is 100% sure it is a hardware problem?
