I didn't trip KNOX after installing JellyBeans - Galaxy Note 3 General

I know that I made a mistake when flashing: I didn't wipe my phone first (I was very eager haha).
I knew that knox should be tripped because I installed a custom rom, but there was a part of me (the part in all geeks that is hopeful that logic will not apply) that insisted I check. I just checked it, and I see a beautiful 0x0
Any speculation? Am I late on this discovery?

Is that on a N9005? Does it survive if you power-off and power-on again?

Yes. I have rebooted it many times. But it's a N900V.

I think KNOX is broken on my device XD I've been doing all sorts of installing today, to try and install CM11 (haven't succeeded. it never boots), and it still says 0x0....
fyi, it's only when I flash CM11 into it that it never boots. Every other rom works wonderfully.

Proof? Preferably video so you'd be less inclined to pull a stunt.

Unfortunately, I tripped it just today, after trying to use Clockwork Mid Recovery.
I will do what I can to replicate what I did. I have the means to get another N3, but it will take a couple months. I will record the whole process, from first opening to keeping 0x0.
I am not an attention seeker. I know I should have studied what I had while I had it. It's too late though. I must try again..... I will come back to this when I can.
If another reads this before they attempt modifying their device, and would like to try and keep 0x0, PM me. It would speed up the discovery

Sounds like it was just running on a different partition similar to safe/boot strap - and by installing CWM it's tripped your bootloader hence the KNOX 0x1 - Bootloader contains KNOX, so if you can by pass it - 0x0

That's what I was using. I used Kingo, then installed Safestrap. Mystery solved.... personally, I was hoping that this would be more revealing for Note 3 modification.

I am also going to trip it but my question, how to get backup of data and apps wo root? any links suggested?

I would suggest Helium, doesn't require root but you need to run the desktop application before you can backup.
Really simple and easy
It's blasphemy they sell the devices at a premium and we are not allowed to use as we see fit without any repercussions.
When would rooting ever make phone calls weak , buttons malfunction or whatever hardware related issue man..
@carleone82 if you are not rooting why do you need to trip the counter?

Well, I got my Note3 N9005 (replacing my Note II) in beginning of October. Within an hour after I got home it was rooted with Chainfire's CF autoroute.
Do I regret - No Way, despite that the Knox flag is tripped.
I need the feeling of having full control of my phone and run Titanium Backup Pro, App Quarantine Pro, Root Explorer, File Manager Explorer, Nandroid Manager/Online, Mobile Odin Pro and of course SuperSU Pro.
In addition I use Philz Touch Recovery CWM which has just become available for the N9005. The rest of the phones OS is fully stock.
The tripped Knox flag doesn't really bother me. It's just a kind of a certificate to run Knox and I don't need to run that at all. I do see the point in Knox related to corporate security with a lot of employees running around with unsecured phones on the inside of the company firewall. Not to forget about all the corporate information on each phone totally unsecured. That's where the Knox container comes in handy.
As far as I understand, warranty is not an issue (atleast within EU) if Knox flag is tripped. If the phone is able to boot in Download Mode - just reflash (PC Odin) it with latest stock software. If you have a backup on the external SD card or your PC (you should), do factory reset before you send it back for warranty repair or replacement.
I have a hard time believing that it is possible to reset the Knox flag without replacing a chip on the MB or the MB itself.

i trip it at the third day! Know 0x1, X-Note (Perfect Rom) Rooted, i hope i will not need any Repair at this 2 years

I rooted my Note 3 on KitKat without tripping Knox, also got voice recording working

I just wanted to share that I was able to do it, and without tripping knox.
It was either a miracle, I have a special phone, I have no idea.
What I did:
- Entered ODIN mode
- Flashed CWM recovery for Note 3 (for my exact phone model, Samsung N900W8, it's a Canadian One) -- GENUINELY thought I'd trip Knox, but CF auto root was not working, so this was my option.
This somehow did not trip Knox at all, then all I had to troubleshoot a bit. I tried a few older versions of the SuperSU for CWM package, none of them worked... then finally I found out that these were old versions, I downloaded the 1.89 superSU package for CWM/TWRP, and now I am officially rooted.
Once I booted in, I had to load SuperSu which then said "Do you want to disable KNOX to get root working?" or something to that extent.. At my own risk I did that, still didn't trip the KNOX counter.
Booted up, works, able to use root on a lot of different apps.
I have no idea if it's a miracle it did not trip Knox, if I have a magic phone, etc.. but I thought I'd share.
This is root, not a custom kernel or anything.
Second bit: I was able to get call recording with Call Recorder working as long as I used to CAF (root required) option. No other option worked, not kernel, not with installed Alsa, etc..
If anyone wants any more specific information about my phone, I will gladly share. All I know is knox 0x0 with root is pretty sweet.
Was this the first time you rooted your N3? or did it have root on a lower android version?

Mine does (I think.. there's a line of blue text and I can't recall that it says exactly), but in Download mode it shows 0x0.

Resetting KNOX

After rooting, using SuperSU to disable KNOX, I was playing around. Editing, deleting, freezing, etc, etc... Well I triggered KNOX somehow and had to log into my Samsung account to reset my phone each time.
Well, come to find out, after resetting my phone in recovery and then resetting my phone through setting, KNOX is reset back to 0x0.
FYI
Wait a minute. Are you sure you had triggered bootloader level knox to 0x1, and reseting turned it back to zero? The towelroot and supersu should not trigger the Knox flag. Loading a recovery would do that. Are you sure you triggered knox, or just wiped it and reloaded the knox system?

I had been using my s5 for work, we use Good Mobile. I rooted, thinking knox would be restored per the post, but I can no longer use my phone for work, as root tripped whatever security was in place, making my phone out of policy at work. No biggie, just have to use my tab now instead.

This! Rooting won't trip the KNOX counter, but Super SU freezes it (see below).

When Super SU is installed, you're asked to freeze KNOX. To me, that means any applications that require it won't work...unless you do a full factory restore. The hardware flag should not be tripped by anything you can do on the phone currently, unless you have a Dev Edition.
So this isn't my first time rooting however I came from the S3 which did not have KNOX. So excuse any ignorance.
I rooted the S5, disabled KNOX with SuperSU (and received confirmation it was disabled) and continued to play with the phone at the root level. After playing with it (a lot), I decided to check KNOX status in ODIN and it read REACTIVATION LOCK(KK): ON.
I reset my phone and had to provide my samsung account login to reactivate the phone after wipe. I wiped it a few different ways including using KIES to do a firmware reload. The only way I had not tried was to reactivate the phone (after samsung login) and do a wipe phone reset through the settings menu.
The only way I was able to get the REACTIVATION LOCK(KK): to read OFF was after that method.
System status also read Custom. I have a feeling it was Triangle Away that triggered KNOX.
I have since wiped, it kept root surprisingly, and reloaded everything except Triangle Away with no issues.
Hope this is written as logical as it sounds in my head.

You have to uninstall Good and load the Good root check disabler module for Xposed before reinstalling it. Otherwise it detects root.
Has nothing to do with Knox.
I use "hide my root" from the play store for when I do not need root to hide root from the apps that check for it that won't work if you you're rooted, works great, then when you need to do some work that needs root open the app unhide root tinker away until you need to hide root from one of those pesky apps, then hide it!

Also - I downloaded SU from the play store. WHen I launch it it says "do you want to disable knox" - My brain says YES!! but... what happens? warranty void? Can you ODIN stock back on to restore it?

Reboot into download mode, counter says 0x1 if tripped, but if you rooted with towelroot, you're not tripped. You're fine disabling Knox through SuperSU. As long as you don't trip Knox you can flash through kies or take it to a store to get 100 stock back on it. Overall, I really like mine. Got it for father's day, and so far, no complaints. You'll get used to the buttons. Just put the settings shortcut on your home screen . Have fun!

No, you can't. In order to flash new ROMS you have to have custom recovery, which is flashed through Odin, which trips Knox.

An official install from Samsung would not trip knox, just like when you odin a stock tar does not trip knox. Only a custom recovery trips it, so Samsung would have no problem updating a flawed recovery without tripping knox.
Right. that's my point. So, what "actually does" trip knox? or, how do you package a "custom rom" so that the stock recovery deploys it.
Challenges!

What trips Knox is booting into a custom recovery. I'm pretty sure that using Odin to install it by itself won't trip it, but booting into it will. And of course, you can't install a custom rom without using a custom recovery.

The only counter the S6 has right now is the Knox warranty counter. As long as you flash stock roms -not modified in any way- Knox shouldn't be tripped and you wouldn't loose the warranty and access to Samsung pay. If you modify the device with, for instance, PingPong Root, the status will be shown as 'Modified' and you will lose Samsung Pay and OTA updates untill you flash a stock rom again.
You can flash unbranded firmware without issues as long as its compatible. That was literally the first thing I did to my phone.

You can flash unbranded firmware without issues as long as its compatible. That was literally the first thing I did to my phone.

So I can't flash a debloated rom?

You can. You'd just lose your warranty and access to samsung pay. If you're interested in removing the carrier's bloatware, you can use the Debloater tool. Pretty straightforward, effective and safe. It can even 'disable' system apps so you should be careful with that.

And if I were to flash a stock rom again? Would it return it to pure factory settings?

If you flash a stock ROM over an already debloated one, the disabled apps won't become enabled. You'd need to perform a factory reset for them to become available again. This means you can flash newer versions of stock ROMs as they become available without fear of having to debloat again. This is nice if you want to try newer kernel versions included in the latest ROMs, or to try different basebands.
-As a sidenote, when I say flash the stock ROMs I refer to flashing with Odin, rather than custom recoveries (because installing custom recoveries voids the knox counter)

My bro just told me you can flash zips with flashfire without tripping Knox, so this can be used to install twrp? And how do you know if you tripped Knox?

Knox will be tripped if you install a custom recovery or kernel - that's for sure, whether you use flashfire or odin or anything else.
Post 784 and 785 of this thread kinda reassure it, among others.

Check if knox is tripped by going into download mode (hold power button + home button + volumen down untill a cyan screen shows up, then volume up).
Is there any way to get nexus like navigation buttons on the s6? Also is there an app that can add long press function to the recent button?
Why does my Knox flag say 0x0304 and not 0x1 like everything else I've seen? I flashed TWRP for root/debloat and flashed back stock recovery for deep sleep. I don't care about warranty, I'm just curious if there's a difference. Model 920F.
Sensors not working
I installed Noble Nougat Experience 4.5 S8 port on my SM-G920F. Battery life was bad so I decided to go back to stock ROM.
I did something dumb. I deleted all partitions and Windows could not recognise my device.
I solved the problem with Smart Switch.
I installed stock ROM and everything was fine until I started Asphalt 8 game. I tilted my phone to control the car but car just went foward.
I thought it was the game issue but when I opened YouTube I couldn't go in landscape mode.
I tried to calibrate gyroscope sensor but it still didn't work.
I entered *#0*# in phone app and went to sensors and none of the worked and SensorHub Test failed.
If someone knows is it software or hardware problem.
Please help!!!
