[Q] Installing AT&T stock ROM on VZW SCH-I535 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi,
I just migrated my VZW phone to AT&T, and was having issues with texting. Working with the ATT rep, figured out that "Message Center Number" option was disabled or not available on the VZW install. I don't have hidden menu enabled, running 4.3, so nothing with *# will work. So I thought before, I go ahead and do a CM10.2 install and try it out. I wanted to see if I can install stock 4.3 (or older) ROM on my VZW phone. The GS3 phones offered by phone vendors almost identical.
Thanks for your help in advance.

No, you cannot install an AT&T rom on your VZW phone. There are hardware differences between the models. Flashing an AT&T ROM on your VZW phone would result in a hard brick.

Flash Verizon S4 with T-Mobile Rom?

Droid V: 4.2.2
Baseband: 1545VRUAME7
Device Name: SCH-I545
My Girlfriend bought me the new Verizon Samsung S4....not knowing that each phone is "tailored" for the carrier. She used her upgrade for me for Xmas and instead of telling her "i cant use it" and have her feel bad, i would like to Flash a T-Mobile Stock Rom onto the S4.
I currently have my T-Mobile Sim card in the S4, and it actually does work for Voice Calls, but Data wont work. Ive tried configuring several different APNs to it (per T-mobile's website). But i still just cant get Data. I also can not get "wifi calling" because Verizon's Rom does not offer it.
So quick questions:
-Do I need to have Root in order to Flash my Verizon S4, with a T-Mobile Rom. I am assuming Yes.
-Would any T-Mobile, Stock Rom, that works with android 4.2.2 be compatible?
IS IT AS EASY as i am hoping? I am not shy to the Rooting/Unlocking world, so if its possible, i will get it done.
Here is your fix

[Q] Cannot Send Text Messages on new carrier

So here's my situation.
I have a Verizon Galaxy S3 I535 I have been using on Verizon's network for about 2 years. I am switching to a local carrier that shares towers with Verizon. I am trying to use my I535 on the local carrier. I got a SIM card from the local carrier, put that in my phone and I can make calls and receive text messages but not send them.
In order to attempt to resolve this issue I planned to Wipe the phone and put a custom ROM on to ensure that none of Verizon's software or settings is preventing the texting from working. Problem is I am running KitKat version 4.4.2 that has Verizon's bootloader lock.
I got the phone rooted via Towelroot and CW ROM Manager installed. (rebooted into recovery mode got the "Verizon found unauthorized software yada yada." Got the phone back to a "normal" state with 4.4.2 rooted.)
My questions are:
1. Do you think putting a custom ROM on the phone will resolve my ability to send text messages?
2. Texting works on these same towers using Verizon. Can the backend hardware at Verizon allow the phone to work properly, but not the local carrier? (I have verified Local carrier Galaxy S3 is a different model number)
3. Is it possible to overwrite the bootloader/rom via ODIN
4. Is it possible to brick a phone so bad that you cant even reload the default OS via ODIN

1. Sounds to me like it's not sim unlocked.
2. A custom rom may or may not work in this case, if your on the 4.4.2 OTA your limited to two current roms other than stock using safestrap, disregard the custom rom part
3. The bootloader is locked so once again your limited
4. And yes you could very well hard brick the phone while not doing something correctly

Thanks for the Reply
1. I called Verizon when I was planning to switch. They told me my phone is unlocked to use on any carrier. They also gave me the code '000000' if it isn't unlocked. I never received an error message or a place to put an unlock code when using the new SIM. Do you have a link I can reference to ensure that it is unlocked? I have done several searches and haven't found anything that works. There are several that say to type in secret code *#XXXX# but my phone just attempts to make a call and says "not a valid number". Any help is appreciated.
2. Are you saying that i would be able to put a custom ROM on like Jelly 'Beans' or Clean ROM? If yes, can you post a link for that as well? I have done some extensive searching and most of the results applied to phones that were pre 4.4.x release.

I honestly know nothing about sim unlocking. If it's on 4.3 or 4.4 and it took the OTA your very very limited to what roms you can flash.

[Q] AtT NOte 2 unlocked, now using Tmobile, Can't upgrade firmware

MY sister called ATt to unlock her phone when she went abroad, they did. Now she no longer has ATT and is with tmobile. Using the Tmobile sim card, she can't seem to upgrade her OS using the firmware update option in settings. How can she go about upgrading? she currently has android 4.1.2 with the NOte 2?
also if i flash aokp on her phone, but she don't like it, then flash back the original 4.1.2 firmware, would i lose the unlock that ATT did for her and she can't use Tmobile anymore?

Carrier unlocking is separate from ROM. If you can install custom recovery (CWM, TWRP), switching from ROM to ROM is as simple as doing a backup of one, wiping the device, and installing another ROM. Always save a back-up to your computer, and it's also a good idea (much easier in the end) to do a batch back-up through Titanium of all the user apps, so you can simply restore them to the new ROM instead of downloading them all over again and losing the app data.
Factory firmware can be obtained from sammmobile.com and are flashable with Odin (google it).
thanks for the help but why can't she update the stock rom from the settings though when she switched to tmobile? are the update locked to the att carrier?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The method Planterz gave you will give her the latest firmware. There's at least a few Lolipop ROMs for the Note 2

Verizon M8 unlocked w/ TMO sim, same flash process?

Hello, just upgraded from a Galaxy S4 on T-Mobile to an unlocked Verizon HTC One M8 handset. Popped in the sim, I can send and receive text, data on HSPA/3G mode but not one LTE or Global mode (anyone know why this is? I'd like to be able to use t-mobiles LTE and not just HSPA/3G), get the usual "sim unknown source" stuff. I am wanting to flash Skydragon.
My question, is there anything special I need to do before/after I flash these, since I'm using a different network than what the handset was originally supposed to be on? Maybe I need to flash different radio? This is my first time using an unlocked phone, previously all my phones with custom ROMs were on the same network as the handset variant.
Otherwise, would I just update to the latest 5.0.1 OTA update from Verizon, root/unlock bootloader, install TWRP, then flash Skydragon, and I'm all good?
Edit: Well, further reading seems to indicate to me that it turns out verizon M8 devices already updated to 5.0.x are still not able to be rooted at this time?
Thanks for the help

Some Verizon love

This is just a beg and ask for help thread. So just my thoughts I had an LG G2 and there were tmobile roms that we could use on the g2 with no problems. Would it be possible to have a tmobile rom and use a verizon kernel and radio? But my hopes are that some of you wonderful people could perhaps throw some help to the verizon section of this phone, it seems to be left in the dust compared to tmobile/spring roms. Just one decent rom would be greatly appreciated with root on android 5. Thank you all for reading this.
I assume that you have the Dev edition of the VZW Edge? If so, I would say it would be worth a try, at least with the T-Mobile Roms and not Sprint, because I have seen too many times where its Sprint only on Sprint. I have not had much experience with VZW, but I would say it is safe to assume that you could flash a full ROM with the only issue potentially being a missing APN to VZW. Try RiverRom 5.1.1, that isnt based off a Tmo rom, so it could have better support for Verizon. If anything goes wrong, just use ODIN to flash back to stock.
Ok could someone please help me. I've managed to get the stuff to setup odin and do all that jazz. Boot to download mode download an official stock release of 4.4 kitkat and goto downgrade from 5.0.1 on my n915v but no success, says emmc write fail.
Is my device locked to 5.0.1 can I not even downgrade, no I do not have the developers edition of the phone but I do have developer unlocked in the settings menu and have selected debugging mode.
Any ideas?
You're stuck with what you have. Nobody has successfully unlocked the verizon version
