[Q] mx player custom codec - General Questions and Answers

I am downloading mx player custom codec for my device htc desire c.. But on downloading arm v7 neon the download keeps cutting at 3.22 mb... what to do??/ plz tell me...

First codec is needed only if the device doesn't support mostly default codec in mx player itself supports and plays videos in most devices
Try enabling s/w instead if h/w and play video
Download codec only If mx player recommends codec

MX Player Custom Codec [AC3,DTS,MLP,TRUEHD, etc..]

https://github.com/USBhost/MX_FFmpeg is my modified source where i'm building from
You can download recent codecs here ( GitHub releases ) and 1.35.0-1.8.6 here ( Google Drive ).
Also the XDA download tab is no longer updated as for some reason I cant remove them.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Check which version you need by going to Local Player Settings/Decoder/General
in the Custom Codec tab it will tell you which one is needed (x86,x86_64,neon,neon64/ARMv8).
Note: skip step 1 if your using aio (all in one) version
2. Download the one you need (No need to unzip it)
3. Go back to Local Player Settings/Decoder/General
and tap the Custom Codec tab then select the version you downloaded. DONE!
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) :
What's the difference between MX Player Codec Packs on Google Play and Custom Codec?
MX Player Codec Pack not only contains ffmpeg library, It contains many other libraries required to work properly. If you download MX Player from Google Play mostly it will contain the required libraries according to your device architecture. You have to install codec packs from Google Play only if MX Player asks to install. Custom codec is just a modified version of the ffmpeg library used in MX Player. It's modified to include support DTS/Dolby(ac3) audio tracks. So, Codec Pack is mandatory if MX Player asks to install it. Custom Codec is optional and It's required only if you want to play the videos with DTS & Dolby (AC3) audio tacks
Why Custom Codec is not updated even though MX Player is updated?
In Many occasions MX Player may updated without any changes to ffmpeg library. So, Custom Codec will also remain same. The custom codec version required will be directly forced by the player itself. So no need to worry about it. If it's not compatible MX Player will not load at all.
How do I know that my Custom Codec is outdated & needs an update?
Whenever MX Player is updated, It will check the custom codec version loaded. If it's outdated it will show a error message that shows "Custom Codec is out of date. Replace it with the new version". Otherwise there is no need to check this thread for the new Custom Codecs.

What do you meant?
Can you explain the problem you are facing....
Does not play dts audio or any video?
Have you changed the rendering to HW+ or SW not HW...?
In the latest build of MX Player there is no option in preference to enable SW audio with hw playback.
You have to enable SW audio via audio track button if you are using HW rendering instead of HW+ or SW.
I have personally tested neon build and it is working perfectly.
Even my old build also working with the current version.

When I go to the Decoder section, click on the directory with the files, then MX Player restarts... I'm getting a popup. This is with MX Player 1.7.12 on a Nexus 4 (4.2.2 stock rooted):
Popup says...
MX Player:
Unsupported device or component file corrupted. Please uninstall the application completely then reinstall it if the problem persists.
OK
When I hit the OK button, MX Player closes and when I reopen MX Player, the codec files aren't selected anymore in the Decoder section. I've uninstalled and reinstalled MX Player a few times, also tried just Force Stop ing it, and clearing its cache, but the same thing happens. This was all working perfectly on 1.7.11, so I suspect it's something with the new version of MX Player, but I don't know how to tell what it is.

yes don't work with my nexus with the same error.
Nexus 7 the same bug..... Please, fix it, thank you!
Same problem
Having the same issue as funtek on my Neuxs 10 with version 1.7.12 of Mxplayer with this codec, both neon and not, tried them both. Same error message.
Your new link that you have posted when you recompiled the codec must have done it. That download is working for me on mxplayer 1.7.12 with no error message or corrupt codec message on the nexus 10. Weird... but very happy, many thanks brother! Must have just been corrupt.
AW: MX Player Custom Codec With DTS Support [v1.7.12]
I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S2 and the Codec in op wouldn't work.
The recompiled Codec works.

AW: MX Player Custom Codec With DTS Support [v1.7.12]
The exact same message as in funtek's post.
I've noticed that the files in the alternative zip are only half the size as the files in op, perhaps the zip was messed up?

Hi, Neon Codec on Galaxy Nexus: MX Player Pro crash after set the custom codec and restart application. Next time launched MX Player, the default codec is used.
Also tested tegra2 codec on Galaxy Tab 10.1 - this one is working fine.

No sound while playing a 1080p mkv

I have a 3.25gb 1080p mkv and I have problem playing using mx player pro.
I have tried to switch to different mode - HW, HW+ or SW, video is fine but I got no sound at all.
If I use a different player like BS Player it works perfectly.
Note: I'm using Nexus 5 w/4.4.2 kitkat + Mx player pro 1.7.28 Armv7 Neon

Can you post the mediainfo of the file?
If it has dts audio track then you have to use custom codec.
thanks, it's dts.
I have downloaded the custom codec and now it's fine.
However, may I ask why this codec didn't include in mx player in the first place?
Also the one from the google play doesn't work. I had to use this:

The detailed answer is in the first post of the custom codec thread...!!!
In short DTS people is not ready to negotiate with SW players. So, to avoid copyright issues it's dropped from the official version.

Nexus Player MPEG2 Hardware Decoding on Stock Rom

So, MX Player appears to have hardware decoding, but you have to side load the Intel codecs.
I am right now watching live sports through my HRHomerun Prime using this method.
1) Install MX Player from the market MX Player Free On Google Play
2) Side Load the Intel Hardware Codec from MX Player Side Load
3) Install the AC3 audio Codec from
XDA MX Player AC3 Audio Codec
To Watch HDHomerun Prime channels with the method play the network stream

SHIELD - MX player - AC3 cannot play even after internet recommended fix

When MX player lost its support to play AC3 audio I have found on the internet instructions how to fix it. I downloaded the AIO 1.7.32 codec package zip and set the MX player to use them. Despite this fix the problem still persists. (I think tegra 4 is not supported with this codec package)
Using this codec package Shield is able to play AC3 audio only for very short period of time.
Is there any other way how to make MX player play the AC3 audio?
use vlc less problems
My MX Player works so far properly after I changed the SW codec to HW+ one (I also use the AC3 external codec package) . There are also setting for SW/HW audio codec, just play with it.

[Feature Request] AC3/DTS Passthrough

Hi !
In France , an ISP called FREE released a new TV BOX which is called the Freebox Mini 4K.
This box runs Android TV .
It has a Broadcom BCM7252 Brahma15 dual-core 1.5Ghz SOC .
Many users have installed Kodi but there have some problems .
Many users use MXPlayer because it is the best player on this Android Box, it is on the AndroidTV Play Store and it has the best video quality. But however KODI works with HDMI and S/PDIF passtrough in AC3 / DTS .
Is it possible to have this option with MxPlayer ?
Can anyone assist in the French community? = D
hi, i have the same problem here:
with the new Sony Android TV, i think that MX Player it's the only way to play videos on that tv (VLC actually sucks), but there's that problem with DTS encoding!
Can mx player developers fix it? :good:
Same here in the US. The default plex player does not support mkv, so I have to use mx player pro. Unfortunately MX player pro does not give me the ability to pass through audio! My receiver can decode DTS, Dolby, etc I just need the player to do audio passthrough!
v 1.7.40 can do this. My device have native support for ac3/dts but with 1.8.1 MX refuse to play ac3. Damn it
Hmm @sumantaadk I assume that when it previously worked, you were using HW, and not HW+ ?
@ everyone else, I assume you have already tried the custom audio codec? MX by itself does not support DTS.

My device only support sw decoder for the video I have. I still can play ac3/dts with previous version but the beta completely remove the possibility. I think developer removed support due to copyright issue. So the current issue is bug or because of copyright?
AC3/DTS was support was removed by default due to copyright, yes; that's one of the main reasons to use the custom codec.
I would have thought that if you use HW and passthru to Android media framework to use the device's native render, that this method would have allowed for DTS...

Beacuse, you are using old custom codecs. If you want to play dts or ac3 you must use the custom codec compiled for the specific version of the player. After the update, if the old codec is found as incompatible it will be automatically unloaded. MX Player 1.8.x needs custom codec version 1.8.0.

Sorry but I am not using any custom codec. I am using unofficial cm11 which have inbuilt support for ac3/dts. I have clean MX player. Current market version support both ac3/dts.

Can you play videos with dts/ac3 tracks in HW decoder?

Make sure that you have enabled HW+ audio on SW video.
HW+ is broken in 1.8.x on some devices according the beta page. If HW+ is broken in your device, you may not be get the audio.

Yes. MX Play ac3 with hw decoder. I rarely use ac3 content so that's not the big deal for me. All other formats are suppoted with hw+ or sw.

Audio is auto disabled by MX in HW+
Hi, I found this old thread by searching DTS / AC3 Passthrough. So is this feature active in Mx Player pro. I have the 1.7 version with custom codec, and when I play DTS or AC3 file, the audio is automaticly converted by MX player into a 5.1 output, if I select a 5.1 preset on my AVR I can here 5.1 sound, but I would like to have the audio be direct stream to my AVR, and AC3/DTS be converted by my AVR.

Use HW decoder without custom codec. It will pass the audio stream to the audio receiver. If your receiver has dts/ac3 decoder, it will play true 5.1 channel (or whatever) present in the audio stream.

It won't work with HW+ or SW currently. Probably it may be possible in the next version 1.9.0

Ok, thank you for your help, and lets wait for the next version.
hello, i found the info in this thread very useful thanks. However i wasnt able to quite get everything working so i was hoping someone might confirm i am doing everything right.
i'm using mx player on a nvidia shield to play a stream of h.264 video and Dolby Digital audio, its from my tv server. i want to pass through the audio to my avr which can handle this and looking at posts above i need to use the hw decoder without the custom codec. unfortunately i get no video with the hw decoder. with both the software and hw+ decoders i get video and then with a custom codec i get audio but its downmixed.
is the hd+ decoder with custom codec and downmixed audio the best i can expect for now and is it likely that the 1.9 release mentioned may fix this?
thanks!
