[Q] Homescreen rotation on stock launcher - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is this possible without using any third-party app or launcher ?
PS: The auto-screen rotation options is already on and it's working fine for the apps, its just the homescreen that I'd like to be able to use in landscape mode as well.

I think you have answered your own question. I personally use the Xposed module App Settings to 'Force auto-rotation' in launcher.

Hey, I appreciate the suggestion but what I wanted to know is if it is possible to do this without a 3rd party app/launcher.

hiding apps without disabling them

Sony live with walkman WT19i
rooted 2.3.4 (0.58)
is there any way to hide apps from stock app drawer without disabling them?
i dont want to use any other launcher
From my knowledge (two months on android development) when you run new app this second one goes to background and calls method "onPause" so if developer want to do something in background it will work. You have no influence on it. And if you call back already runned application then it starts from last saved state.

Yeah ! it works, not fully but yes, for a few apps it does work
Has anyone learnt to read in the meantime?
Have you found a solution?
How about the 'incognito' installation in parallel space
You could try using the 'incognito installation' mode in the parallel space app. Would that work?

[Q] Can you delete widgets from phone?

Can i delete the 60+ widgets on my phone that I never use? Does deleting widgets benefit the speed of my app drawer loading?

I've been curious about this as well for a while. Although, I assume if the widgets are installed as part of an app, then the answer would be "no". For example, IP Cam Viewer comes with like 6 different widgets with different sizes and layouts. I'll never use any of them, but I don't think I can uninstall them without uninstalling the app altogether. Can somebody please let me know if I'm mistaken?

I figured. Oh well. I guess it doesn't bother me that much. Thanks for the reply!
@nihn75, @simms22, @charesa39 Actually, you can delete them. Use Autostarts to disable whichever widgets you don't want and they will disappear from the drawer and homescreen long-press list.

Wow! Interesting. Thanks for the tip. So does this do the same thing as the Xposed Module, BootManager?

These apps disable the receivers. ROM Toolbox works as well.

Autostarts seems to disalbe most but there are still 25+ hanging around. Great start, thanks!

Between Autostarts and Rom Toolbox (Thanks @Aerowinder) you should be able to get that number lower.

Some widgets don't have separate receivers. You can't get rid of all of them, but most of them you can.

[Q] How to turn off this Google shortcut?

Hi guys,
do you know how to turn off this shortcut?
I am not sure if it comes with Nova Launcher, or something else, but I've searched through Google settings & Nova Launcher settings and couldn't find that
Any ideas? It's totally useless for me, but often open google when I doesn't need that.
Screenshot it attachment.

Gravitybox lets you disable it
I have Paranoid Android installed, not all functions in GravityBox work for me.
But just to check it - which one and where, because I've also looked there...

[APP][ROOT][2.2+]ScreenOff - Soft Screen Off(Respects Smart Lock Feature) v1.2/v2.0b

Hi,
Important : Requires ROOT
This is a simple App that emulates the click of Power Button.
Handy when u want to reduce wear and tear of the physical button or if the button is not working.
Currently the following method of Trigger are available:
- Using the Swipe Up Assist action which usually opens the Google Now App
- Application icon (In Launcher)
- Shortcut
- Intent Support - Use 'in.pathri.screenoff.SCREEN_OFF' as Intent action to trigger screen off from ANY App, including TASKER
Following are planned to be added:
- Widget (Is it Needed?? )
- Tasker Extension
Advantage over other similar apps in Market:
The usual 'Screen Off' 'Screen Lock' Apps that are available in market, makes the 'Smart Lock' feature introduced in Lollipop not work. Also this makes the timeout period set in the 'Automatically Lock' security settings to not work.
Since my App uses shell commands (and hence the need for Root) to emulate Power Button press, both Smart Lock and 'Automatically Lock' settings work.
Disclaimer:
AFAIK should not cause any problems in any device since nothing dangerous is being used. But still the usual disclaimer : ' I am not responsible for any damage done to your device, hand, home etc... LOL '
Have tested so far in the following Mobiles. Would be glad if others test it out in various mobiles and report here.
Nexus 5
HTC One X
Change Log:
v0.1 - 5th Jan:
- Initial Version with only Google Now Swipe gesture support
v0.2 - 8th Jan:
- Added the following:
Application launcher
Shortcut
Intent Support : 'in.pathri.screenoff.SCREEN_OFF'
v1.0 - 18th Jan:
Modified code to support more Devices. Probably must work in all Android devices irrespective of Android Version
v1.1 - 20th Jan
Shouldn't be showing in recents anymore
v1.2 - 20th March
Added icon for the swipe up gesture
Fixed a bug that was causing adding shortcut to crash in certain launchers(AFAIK GEL based)
v2.0b - 30th March
Adding a new material icon - thanks to @slider112

If possible can you verify If the swipe up gesture is turning screen off in your phone? Would like to confirm whether my App is working across devices
Thanks

AFAIK, If we use tasker to screen off, it will immediately lock and would not respect the Smart Lock feature. Please correct me If am wrong.
Regarding the gesture bringing up the magazine app, have u configured the swipe up gesture do that by default ? Or After installing this App,the swipe up gesture got assigned to it?

Oh..ok.. Then I Guess the swipe up gesture you are talking might not be the one I am referring to. The gesture I am referring to usually triggers Google Now /Google search
Does the gesture that opens the magazine app, work on custom launcher?? If no, I Guess that gesture is part of Samsung launcher and can't be overridden without launcher replacement

Thanks a lot my friend
Regarding overriding the swipe up gesture in ur Note 3 , I think it might be possible with an Xposed module. I have never written one, so not Sure. I am ready to try to make a Xposed module, If it's ok for u to test it out in ur mobile (have no previous experience in writing Xposed module, so a word of caution )
I have tried that mod already it doesnt replaes the gesure action.

Yes there is an app called Shortcutter, when you're in the app allow root features, then go to "Toolbox settings", scroll down to "Customisable tiles" and enable immersive mod. Work very well, i still using it since the first time i've found it.

I have this app, Only that you can not exclude some apps so I prefer not to use it
There is no app needed. See the following thread for details and warning about battery drain. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3621622
I enabled immersibe mode on my Nexus 7 for two single apps using USB ADB command without having root. It works and I have no battery drain.
