Hello xda,
This is my first post, so any tips on how to post properly would be appreciated :good:
I haven't been able to find this problem anywhere else, hence this post
What's happening is, my gps will find and connect to lots of satellites rather quickly, but, once it has a fix, the gps icon will disappear and my fix will be lost until the gps "resets?". What could be causing this?
I'm using a HTC Desire S which is running cyanogenmod 7.2. S is off.
I recently followed these guides to allow my gps to detect satellites, as it didn't before:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1442032 (I have tried a few of those roms)
Thanks

Hi all,
I have a Desire S and am very happy with it. But recently I have GPS problems.
Since I have this device I never ever had any problem with the GPS. A fix within a few seconds. The GPS of the phone had a fix faster and more stable than my Garmin I use for geocaching.
I have installed c:geo and GPS Status from the beginning. And I did not add any 'strange' programs, no games.
But since a few weeks the phone it takes a long time to get a fix. Even in an open terrain, so no trees or buildings. And when it can determine it's location it is very unstable. The phone even has trouble to determine it's location by the mobile network.
I have Android 2.3.5 and HTC sence 3.0 and softwareversion 2.10.401.8
Can anyone help me with this one? It drives me crazy....
TIA, Peter
I can only advice you to install Faster Fix from the market. It changes the GPS configuration for faster fixing. It worked for me but there are also other GPS optimization tips all over the forum, though I can't give you a specific one.

I had GPS problems on my DS as well, googled a bit, and found out you can change the GPS config file.
First use FasterFix, and select your location to where ever you is closest to you, then google "ntp pool" enter the website and choose a region from the right hand side. Use Root Explorer to go to your /System/etc location. Open gpsconf, and type in the "server 0.europe.pool.ntp.org" text. It will change on where you are located. Mine was Europe thats why there is ".europe.pool"
Hope i helped you out man. Peace.
Thanks guys. I will try your suggestions.
Althought I still don't understand why my phone has these GPS problems. Just out of the blue...
I had major problems with GPS fix for several days, until I made a "compass calibration" through GPS status program. A reboot might do the same, but I'm not sure.

Hi all,
I did a hard reset of device and restored the factory defaults. As I did not change a lot on the device this was not a very big issue for me.
But after this the problems are gone. My device now has a fix within a few seconds.
Kind regards,
Peter
Hi,
Becouse, I'm new I need to post my message here in General forum, sorry for that!
I have problem with my HTC Desire, after I installed Mild Wild 5.0 Stable-Release.
The problem is my GPS, it doesn't work. I don't see the notification icon when I run GPS.
GPS Test and GPS Status doesn't see any satelites and of course, my gps navigation doesn't work. I try to clean cache, dalvik-cache, install AGPS Patch from this forum. Almost every type of this patch... but any thing helps.
Then I try look for some information about blocking GPS in source code,. I found information that only in betas sometimes the GPS is blocked by programmers, in stable releases they never do this, also only couple of people had the same problem, so it could be tricky.
FYI: on my original ROM (from HTC: Android 2.2.2) the GPS was working perfect.
Do you have some ideas what could be a problem?
Thank you.
You can't post in the Dev forum, but you can (and should) post this in the Q&A forum for your device.
This might be a silly question, but have you tried explicitly turning on your GPS and then opening an app like GPS Essentials? I mean this instead of relying on the app to turn it on.

Let me guess - is that is Desire PVT4? (It'll say on the recovery-loader screen.)
I had exactly the same problem: on a PVT4, with MW-CM5 no GPS, with MW v4.3 the GPS is fine.
But on my older Desire PVT1, both versions work fine with the GPS.

sup xda..
I've been experiencing a fault which I couldn't find on any other threads, but if I'm missing it please direct me to it.
First thing's first... I've been running CM10 stable, tried the default radio and various others.
So this is what happens - turn on navigation or maps, and it'll work for a moment, give me directions and locate me. 10-15seconds later, my position on the map has frozen and "GPS signal lost" is muttered. Reception on 4G and any network connection is lost as well. It'll stay out of action for about a minute, then pick it up again, and the whole failure starts over.
As mentioned ive tried various radios, the symptoms are the same.
I've tried a clean slate of CM10, the various nightlies etc to no avail, same problem.
Today I tried RebelROM (02122013.. android 4.1.1) - no issues! So I ask...
Has anyone else had this problem? Why might I be experiencing this on CM and not another ROM?
thanks
No one huh . Oh well I guess I'm one in a million.
I am running jellytime on my inspire. Its unable to do navigation with any app including google maps, and mapquest. It is able to find the route and locate me but cannot navigate. I have tried all available gps patched one by one, nothing fixes it. We have 2 Inspire handsets with jellytime, both have same issue. Can anyone help, please?
I'm running JellyTime and navigation is working fine. There was a bug from CM10 in which navigation app would loose GPS sync after screen timeout interval (even though screen does not go off in nav) and not come back. A workaround was to toggle GPS off and on without exiting nav. This bug seems to have been present in an earlier version of JellyTime per comments in the JellyTime thread, but RB reported it as fixed at some point, and I flashed the latest version and the bug went away. Do you have the latest JellyTime?
Also you should install GPS Test and/or GPS Monitor from the Play Store. These will tell you what your GPS status is, so you know if you have a GPS issue or apps using GPS are not working properly.
I do have the latest version of jellytime. Last night, i did a full wipe and installed the ROM all over again. Still getting the same issue. I am using GPS test. My issue is that my phone wouldn't lock to any satellites at all.
There are a few issues in the JellyTime issue tracker about GPS not working:
http://code.google.com/p/jellytime/...s+Priority+Milestone+Owner+Summary&cells=tile
This one seems to be the same as your problem, and there is a link to a fix that worked for the OP
http://code.google.com/p/jellytime/issues/detail?id=307&q=GPS
thanks for your reply. My problem is different. I do get the GPS icon in notification bar, its just not able to connect to the satellites. I tried the fix anyway. Didnt work.
BREAKING NEWS: (lol)
I was able to fix the issue. Here is the list of things I did: (dont really know which one worked)
I did a complete cache and davlik wipe and installed the ROM (still using jellytime 42 R6.1)
Restarted the phone and the installed inspiremod from HERE
I took the GPS antenna off and cleaned the connections (THIS guide helped)
Then I installed the inspiremod + gps from HERE
And it worked!! Now I am getting a GPS fix as quick as 15 sec..
Glad to hear it's working. I imagine cleaning the antenna connections could have been part of the problem or the entire problem. But it would be nice to know if the GPS fix included in the second Inspiremod you linked to is included in the first Inspiremod, which is the one one linked at the beginning of the JellyTime thread.. The first one says it has GPS configured for North America. Are you elsewhere?
Even after cleaning the antenna connection I wasn't getting any GPS lock untill I did the inspiremod with GPS. And, GPS fix is not included in the inspiremod only that I posted a link for in post # 6 above.
Hi,
I have an XPERIA ACTIVE. I unlocked the bootloader, rooted the phone and flashed cm 9.1 (satsuma).
It caused many problems, but all solved, except GPS AND BLUETOOTH, they don't work.
Bluetooth doesn't give signs of life! It doesn't find any device.
GPS: When i use Google Maps, it's constantly searching for the position that seems to locate but it turns on itself wildly as if it could not find the direction.
I used GPS STATUS to find satellites and it takes from 10 to 20 minutes to give the coordinates of the position, but the problem doesn't change.
I tried to modify gps.conf but I can't fix.
Anyone can help me?
Please.
