Hey all
I wanted to update from GB to Custom ICS.
At the begining I was doing it wrong, flashing without the proper img, after I've download the TRWP image and modifying the name to match the one requested by fastboot, worked out but - here comes the trick, the recovery works well, I even flashed a zip file rom on the phone but the phone won't start. Connected to PC rest on the fastboot mode (the LG silver logo) or, not connected it goes of vibrating on and on.
Can someone help me please?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks Karim
I was doing it all wrong. I wasn't putting battery in at the right time.I was putting it at the "wait for five seconds" message instead of waiting for the second run of displaying texts.
Anyway...thanks alot for your help. I've managed to flash recovery on another phone. So now I revived the dead one and made available recovery for the second one. So I have one to experiment with and one for daily, normal use.
Thanks again.

Hi
Bourght a nexus s a few days ago. Today i tried to root the phone using a guide from youtube, if you search for "root nexus s" and look for the user named "Zedomax", thats the one i tried to follow.
First i unlocked it.
next thing was to:
fastboot flash boot recovery clockwork.img (shortend the name to help my self)
last thing:
fastboot flash boot rootboot.img
After this was done my phone is unable to reboot again, it just stops at a google logo with a lock under it. And at that point im unable to do anything. Only thing that works is removing the battery. Think i have killed it
Any ideas to what i could do? is it possible for me to save it yet?
best regards,
Fonain
try to use the pc software to repair it or to reinstall android.. there is no problem..
pc software? could you please tell me what software are you talking about, maybe a link to where i can download it? And do you by chance know how to reinstall android?
any help is highly appreciated
Best regards,
fonain
edit: at work atm, so might not be able to answer right away

I have yet to use it on my NS but i used it regularly on my vibrant. You will need to get into download mode for it to work.
your link doesnt work
does anyone know where i can find the original files for nexus s so i can use em in fastboot and make my phone work again?

which phone model do you have?
i9020 or i9023 ?
Bootloader version is I9020XXKA3
Baseband version is I9020XXKB1
dunno if those version names have been changed while i have been tampering with my phone, if not its the I9020
that looks good
if it's really a 9020 then you can use the unlocking + rooting guide for the 9020 in the general section
once you get CWR installed, you can flash to any ROM you like
Thanks ill try look deeper into that, and see if that will solve my problem.
but it is already unlocked and partly rooted...i think.
have used a clockwork img and rootboot img, and after that my phone couldnt start up again.

those files are wrong use the mirror recovery image on the i9020 rooting topic in general http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895545
Think i should have used that guide instead of the one i have been using the first time... looks great step by step!
But....
i still have the problem where my phone just stops loading.
1: unlocked it
2: typed: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
3: finished at 1.132 sec (no problems so far)
4: reboot my phone, then it stops.
and it stop when showing this screen.
http://i53.tinypic.com/m74byg.jpg with a lock at the bottom which is unlocked.
And it just stops there, waited for several minutes as i have seen that the startup could take up to 2 mins after tampering with the nexus s.
get to the point in the guide where it tells you to download superuser.
Hope you can see if i have done something wrong
best regards,
Fonain
EDIT: oh yes, forgot to mention that the 2 touch buttons to the left on my SNS lights up. First one glowes for a sec or two, then it turns off again. The second stays on all the time.
repeat the fastboot flash recovery recovery.img one more time
after that is done, boot into the CW Recovery
you know hold up and power
then select mount USB
then copy over a stock nandroid backup for 2.3.3 rooted
after that unmount the usb
and select the option to restore rom from backup
and choose the folder that you unzipped into your mounted SD
3 words...
you are awesome!
thanks alot!!

Hello there!!
I flashed XBSALL´s port of 4.0.4 to my phone (P920H V20a), aparently everything was ok and the phone worked. But when i try to go back to stock i can´t!! If i flash it with anything different from XBSALL´s rom the phone doesn´t work, i tried a lot of guides from here and from other sites. The only combination that works is using smartflash with XBSA404_AP.BIN twice (the first time the phone reboots after 81-93% of completion). The only way to enter download mode is with omap4boot-for_optimus first and the after the first interrupted flash i can do it without it. One thing that i noticed is after the flash, the phone boots and the LG logo appears briefly, after that pops a screen with a white android robot and a load bar bellow. Then after that the phone boots normally. If i use any other ROM that white android screen does not appear... What can i do to put the phone in the original configuration? I´ve also tried the boot recovery options: VOL DOWN + HOME + POWER and VOL DOWN + 3D BUTTON + POWER and it didn´t work... Any ideas?
Thanks for your attention and best regards!!

GB roms don't run on your phone because you have ICS bootloaders installed.
Try OS_Hacking's tool to downgrade your bootloaders: [V1.1][Tool][All-In-One] Flash recoveries , downgrade , bootloaders ....

Well i´ve tried several tools and guides found here and so far here´s what i discoverred:
1. I can enter flashboot only using "omap4boot-for-optimus-1.17b" (from the ressurect thead) ONLY, if i use any other version i get a "unexpected 2ndstage response".
2. I can flash ONLY the xbsall ICS rom using the "smartflash" tool, but the phone does not work correctly using it.
3. So far i can´t flash a GB bootloader using either the "all-in-on-p920" tool or the "total-tool", i get the "unexpected 2ndstage response"...
4. I can enter the "download mode" but unitl i flash a GB bootloader i can´t flash another rom except the xbsall's one...
Any ideas?

Hello Folks!!
I managed to recover my p920h to stock rom!!
Here´s what i did:
1. I recover the partition using the "partition test bin" mentioned here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33538730 using the "smart flash tool", the flashing stops midway but that´s not a problem because it has enough time to modify the partitions on the phone.
2. Then using the "rebooter utility" from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1942836 the cwm recovery is installed.
3. From thi point onward i was able to enter recovery mode and even install custom roms, but i wanted a stock rom, so i googled "lg phone firmware" and in the first result you can get all the official roms so far. I got the V20A.
4. Using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18134614 together with this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473781 i was able to flash the stock rom.
5. After that i just recovered the IMEI using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1734330
I probably won´t mess with roms for a while, but i´ll continue to look for ways to better my phone using this forum's help.
I Thank You guys from XDA, you are doing a fine job and this community ROCKS!!
A piece of advice for the noobs (like me): READ READ READ RESEARCH and READ some more !!!! There are a lot of content here but you have to search the forums, so stop your whining and GET TO WORK!!!
Thank you all and Best Regards.

Kdz flashtool could solve the problem or using an usb.... U could leave the phone until the battery goes off and then recharge a little bit and try download mode again... the first method should work ... press the buttons correctly and connect the usb... working in 95%
same problem
tried the mentioned comments but still nothing for me.

my lgg2 d801 simply boots into the LG logo screen and stays there til it dies.
I do not know too many technicalities when it comes to adb or ubuntu, in fact i dont even know if those programs go on the phone or the computer through usb..
simple clarifications would make the world of difference to me as my phone is useless now.
I can enter download mode using your "let phone die then try again method" but i dont know what to do from there..
Please help me restore my phone to the 4.4.2 kitkat i had previously
thannks in advance

I have a D801 that was rooted on 4.4.2, and I stupidly took the OTA update. I can still use my phone to make calls, but nothing associated with google works. The phone will not boot into download mode, there is no recovery and no fast boot. I have tried everything. It will no reroot or anything . Is there anything that I can do.

I can confirm that that method worked for my G2. Make sure you press and hold volume up then plug the phone in. Hold volume up till you see the small box saying its in download mode.
The nice thing about this method it doesn't wipe your data.
Make sure you have downloaded the most current drivers first though before you plug in your phone. Then go to options and update recovery.

It worked for you because your partitions were not messed up. I know the procedure for getting into download mode, I tell you that it no longer works. Volume up while plugging usb in now gets me a battery charging icon . When you have a rooted phone running 4.4.2 and apply OTA update, it screws the partitions up. I can still send and receive calls, just can't sign into google or use playstore .

I had a similar problem with my T-Mobile LG G2 where I was rooted and accepted an OTA. It broke root and I couldn't get IOroot or Stumproot to work. Went to flash a downgrade and found the phone wouldn't go into download mode. It was NOT bricked. I finally tried playing around with the LG Mobile Support Tool (B2CAppSetup.exe). Of course it detected that my phone already had the latest firmware from T-Mobile, but then I clicked Options>Upgrade Recovery.
It downloaded for a while then I noticed it had put my phone into download mode (it said "Rooted" in red letters at the bottom). Then it flashed the same firmware over and I immediately tested, it entered download mode right away. But I didn't end up needing that as Stumproot was able to brute force it now after the recovery flash.
Anyway, I couldn't find an answer anywhere else. Most results also have a bricked phone, but that wasn't my issue. This solved my problem and maybe it could work for others.

Do you mind posting what you did that was able to work? I have to wait to find someone that will let me use a windows computer to run the flash tool I guess as I cant run it on Mac OS X
Stuck on the TWRP screen, and flashing zips doesn't work, every reboot brings it to the TWRP screen and I cant seem to find system.img or boot.img in the file directory from that screen so I am thinking it ALL got wiped
Thanks for any help
Just a little FYI, you named the thread hard bricked, however you were only soft bricked. Hard Brick is a dead phone... No power, no lights, or any response.

Hey all!
Long-time lurker, first-time poster in this subforum (as I have a G3 now). It's late and I'm writing this up here in case someone here has problems with their D850. Long story short: I downloaded CM 13 for the D855 and changed the updater-script and replaced d855 with d850. It flashed, but then it immediatelly rebooted and left me with fastboot, while it said it was receiving commands, they didn't complete. True bogus. LGFlashTool said the BIN file was for D850 but the model was D855 (which was wrong anyways).
Solution (it's late and I need to go to bed):
1. Download TOT (inside ZIP file) from this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64624324&postcount=2
2. Use THIS DLL FILE (yeah, it's for LGUP, but it works): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64624353&postcount=3 (The LGUP_LG_G3.zip - 16.9 Mb).
3. Open LGFlashTool using the first guide and whatnot. However, IN DLL FILE, use the DLL installed from the MSI file in the 2nd guide. In my computer, it was located here: C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP\model\8974\LGUP_8974.dll
4. Follow the flash guide. Hopefully it'll work up to the Factory Reset Status 3. Then, after a while LGFlashTool will be in red and say DOWNLOAD FAIL. OMG IT'S ALL OVER... Nope. Take your phone's battery out and place it back in...
Voilá! problem fixed!.
If I helped you get your phone back after the same trouble I went through and this post was useful, please send me a beer! (use the donate button at the left) I'll really appreciate it
Note: I don't know much about LG flashing, I only had this issue and figured I'd share the solution and pay back the favor
Thanks for contributing. This probably would have fixed my messed up G2 that I had to get rid of. I was also stuck in fastboot with no commands getting executed.
I'm not sure if your also able to help me on this one problem. After the flash tool reaches about 80% - 83% it says "waiting for reset 40 sec" and also resets my phone and briefly shows the android with small, blue loading bar under it. A second after it resets again and into a bootloop. If I leave it alone for awhile it goes into a blue screen with a red number 2.

No idea man, but I think you should wait until it reaches 3, then when it's at 3 you should take the battery out and then it should revive. That's what I did to mine anyways. Also, it takes a long while to reach 3, let it sit for about 30 minutes max I guess. I think I waited about 5, but your case may vary.
i have the same exact issue the .tot flashes suxcessfully and then the robot on reboot and then bootloop..but i dont ever get a red2 it just keeps rebooting

thanks for the reply. yes I can enter into download mode with battery pulled off and connecting to pc with cable.
Hi Everyone, I realized this is a very old thread, but I have an old G3 phone that could only boot into the download mode. LG Flash tool expects fastboot mode, while LGUP tool showed unknow model and refused to proceed. Is there a way to force flash regardless in download mode?
Backgrond: my phone boot into fastboot mode before, but I might have flashed the wrong .img files and now it coud only boot into the download mode.
Thanks!
