Just flashed my tf700 with CROMIX and it has made it into a new device. I've now started looking at my TF101 as well. It had pretty much ground to a halt, but I did a reset and it is now running as it was when new (running last stock asus rom). My TF700 was pretty much unusable so the new rom was a no brainer, but the tf101 is working fine, so not sure of the benefits?
Is it worth putting a rom like Katkis (4.3 or 4.4) on? What benefits/downsides will I see? Thanks in advance
In a word, Yes. Very much worth it.
KatKiss gives the TF101 a new lease of life, Im running KitKat 4.4.2 KatKiss #17 and it is a flying machine
I don't use my TF101 much at all, it only comes out when on holiday or ocassional lazy day at home. You don't exactly need a speed demon for music, movies, mahjong, book reading, email or web browsing.
That old saying of - "if it ain't broke don't fix it". But whilst I don't NEED the latest and greatest, the geek in me WANTS to stay at least semi up to date.
There are some dedicated and clever devs out there and I've been happily using KitKiss for just over a year.
Downsides? None that i can think of.
Benefits? A warm fuzzy feeling you've just put fresh life to an old forgotten child that was once your pride and joy.
Absolutely - Revolution HD 3.6 is a stable, fast albiet older 4.0.03ROM that performs excellently on the TF101. Y

You should try KatKiss, you'll not know what hit your TF if you're still rocking an ancient ICS ROM
I used megatron, revolution, eos, kk 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4
If you want lots of features/customization go with 4.2 as it has loads of that.
KK 4.3.1 is better than 4.2 IMO but has fewer customization and features.
KK 4.4.2 is the fastest of the three but lacks some customization because it's new.
It also lacks the Tablet UI (only Phatlet UI) that google ditched (I don't care cause I switched to Phablet long ago).
Thanks all for advice. I took the plunge and went with kk 4.4. It ran well, bug i had issues with sd card mounting (now fixed in r18) and also had wifi issues with the connection dropping out. I have now gone to kk 4.3 and am seeing how that runs. Have to say that it is very much a learning experience as previous versions of android have always been asus, even cromix is based on asus core. Never really sure if something is missing, asus specific or has been dropped by google (ie disk mounted icon in. status bar isn't in kk4.3, but is on cromix 4.3).
I will certainly persist to see what happens.
KatKiss 4.2.2 #226 is probably the most stable bug free version so far imo if you're looking for stability over new features, very fast and smooth, I don't remember having any issues with that ROM at all, and it comes with the Tablet UI option
Thanks Detection - I did just that. Got KK 4.4 running and after a few startup issues it seems to be working well. Will try a few other versions. Appreciate the recommendation.
tempted...
I'm on EOS 4.2.2 (whatever is in my sig I think) and it's been working really really well. I'm hesitant to try KK4.4 as things have never been better. I'll hold on a little longer until I feel that desire to tweak is too much to overcome.
If anyone has thoughts to persuade me, I'd like to hear it.
Cool! I was just going to ask for this myself after seeing there's not much activity on the TF101 branch for CM. Trying KatKiss now
Well if you are feeling adventurous, you could install Linux on it and transform it into a fully capable computer instead of just an Android tablet. Currently there is the rootbind kernel that allows you to dual boot
twrp 5.6 from play store
Hi all, (pardon my grammar, i am from the netherlands, aka Holland)
newbie here with tablet flashing.
I have been reading to long and thus to much i guess youtube showed a lot to, to people allready having a base on these things...
So i see many trees, so many, that i can not see the forrest through them.
I downloaded twrp form google play, thats not 2.6, but 5.6 (and called 'manager' this is not the same as the 2.6 version, thats not 'manager'?)
or so
Also i got goomanger , goo.im ? sounds like that.
Dragged (from windows) the downloaded KatKiss-4.4.2_019.zip and gapp something something
in to the root of allready rooted tf101 (that i learned and did in i guess 30 minutes)
started the app : twrp > install > the zip file... nothing. Stop, reboot, still on stock 4.0.3
goomanager, install rom, then appears direct the message "no goomanager folder", seeking for that i did not find where or how the goo manager should be or made, or named.
Also, and logical, much is dated in early 2012 for the asus transformer tf101. So broken links, other tool versions, time alwayss advances.
To bad, not many advanced 'end users' will get to a good start anywhere, all i found was texts from people with to much experience.
To make it short and simple, things like Starting how to's with : flash so you have root. Then download rom X, and flash it with (you name it) and oh yeah, set debugging ON."
I hope someone can direct me to a how to, with step 1 and many, not the ones i found, so for newbies, not for those knowing the base of these things.
I have root acces now.... yeeeee... i do not use these app's, well yes, 2 now, but they did not upgrade my tf101 to katkiss android 4.4.2..

Hi, Twrp manager from playstore is a "manager" for TWRP Recovery using openrecoveryscript. Don't use it to flash katkiss android 4.4.2 coming form ICS 4.03 stock.
At fisrt you have to flash the TWRP Recovery. You can flash it with easyflasher or goomanager (if you're root) : Open GooManager > 3 dots menu button top right > "Install OpenRecoveryScript".
Once you have successfully flashed TWRP, you can flash any ROM you like from TWRP Recovery by booting into recovery
(Volume Down & Power until white text appears at the top of the screen, then release buttons and press volume up once)
Copy the ROM & Gapps to your extrenal SDCard
boot into recovery and, go to advanced wipe, wipe SYSTEM, CACHE & DALVIK CACHE, DATA, INTERNAL STORAGE (not external storage wich is SD card)
Go to the INSTALL menu and find your KatKiss ROM & Gapps (on your external sorage)
Flash ROM
Flash Gapps
WIPE menu and wipe only CACHE & DALVIK CACHE
reboot, You should be booting into Kat Kiss now. Enjoy

Wow, thanx for the walk through, i guess i will, if katkiss works, pay you a token of apreciation via PayPal.(if you have that)
Another question, since i do not have a small sd or 'normal size' sd card above 512 MB (and how formatted, fat? ntfs...?) can it be done by wired pc connection?
I have got the win 8 pc seeing the tf101's 'internal onboard sd memory' and offcourse on this pc the mentioned rom's.

Thanx! Finally i got it working!!, because of your directions and explenation!!!
I now have a tf101, clean as a whistle, with fresh 4.4.2. android rom.
(Some things are still not ok, but that's the rom, like ehhhh pictures library, when pressed the standard app on desktop, it mostley opens and stops, sometimes it works...)
And i want to put a little amount of practical thanx there, if you have PayPal.
Private message me your PayPal email adress and i shuffle some over.
kat kitt 4.4.2. netflix and video
Hee all, a newbie here, i can not replye in the thread itself.
What came into my mind was 2 things, also needed stock after some update of android.
nvidia tegra something...
and arm7. (drivers? codecs?)
perhaps these are missing/wrong ones in 4.4.2 and thus netflix and i.e. utopiatv.nl does not work.

Happy for you
I'm on kk4.4 and it's wonderful, but only thing is annoying me is that I can't put accents with the dock in, I mainly write in spanish, so this is certainly a big issue.
Any tip about how to fix it, I already have the dock layout set to Spanish,so this is not the problem.
Thanks in advance!

This is an extremely simple ROM modification to the standard Advent Vega 1.10 system image that only alters a couple of things. These are as follows:
/system partition size increased from 128mb to 155mb. (The reason for this will be explained below)
su and SuperUser.apk added - You can use root apps as standard now.
ClockworkMod Recovery built-in.
Added Pauls simple recovery reboot app to get into CWM recovery.
That's all! No google apps, nothing else, just these simple changes. This isn't intended to be used as an everyday ROM (although there is no reason why you couldn't).
The main reason for this, is to be used as ROM base for VegaComb (and any other ROM you wish to use). I have been struggling with the Vega's default partition sizes while trying to port Honeycomb, and rather than spending tons of time trying to make stuff way smaller than it was ever intended to be, this seems like the better option.
So, flash this in nVflash recovery mode (exactly the same as the stock 1.10 image) and off you go. Done. No need to do anything else. You can use this base with any ROM, the ONLY downside is that 30mb of storage has been re-allocated from /data to /system, which most people won't even notice.
ALL future versions of VegaComb will require that you use this modded system image as a base (as they will require more than 125mb of /system space). To return your partitions back to the way they were, just re-flash the stock 1.10 image from www.myadventvega.co.uk (this is the ONLY way to restore your partition sizes, restoring from a Nandroid backup will NOT change your partition sizes back). You DON'T have to return to stock when you want to switch from using VegaComb, all other ROMs should work perfectly fine on top of this base, including Corvus5 and CM7.
Also, it's handy to have this in case you brick your Vega as CWM is pre-installed
AS ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE FLASHING ANYTHING!
Download ModdedStock_1.10 v2 Here!
Woo Hoo, good sign for things to come
Good work, Love the idea of a bigger /system..saves a lot of messing around moving apps to /data. Cheers. Paul
Just can't get this to install :-(
Keeps coming up with unknown device found!!
Ooops, forgot to plug the charger in.........sorry :-(
I use ubuntu will this work through wine or would i be better off trying to borrow a windows MC
Flash without usb cable?
Is there a way to flash this ROM without using the USB cable and recovery mode since my VPAD10s is giving a huge pain with windows 7 and the driver so I can not make it work.
Is there a version to be used with rom manager?
Thanks guys.
You need to use your PC because this ROM changes the partition sizes in the internal memory, and you need a PC program (nvflash) for that purpose.
Damn! thanks Logseman, I will keep on trying to get my tablet recognized over w7 can´t believe it´s so hard to make it work. wish me luck
Hope over to the Modaco Vega forum and search for YAUDIG and AUDI. They'll get the drivers installed for you.

Hi:
Currently using vegacomb 0.6, i want to nandroid backup, install the new Rom base, then nandroid restore, and then upgrade to vegacomb 0.7 via the upgrade patch, in order not to loose all my settings.
So I would like to do a Nandroid backup, but being Android illiterate, i havent found how to do it in vegacomb 0.7.
Another question is , as I have moved most apps to SD, if there would be any problem regarding the base rom change and nandroid bacup-restore
Thanks for any hint/pointer
Which gapps should I use it for this built?

No, you can only flash it using a pc.

Can someone please tell me how to use the nvflash, cause i'm clueless. I've searched using google but no luck, even on YouTube. I've downloaded nvflash but I can't work it. It keeps telling me about the drivers, although I installed the drivers. Any help would be great.
Thank you in advance.

Hi
Switch off your Vega.
Connect it to the PC with the USB Cable.
Hold the power button on the Vega for 2 secs
Hold the back button while still holding the power button for a further 2 secs.
Release the power button but keep holding the back button for a further 2 secs.
You should now have a black screen and the Vega should be recognized on your PC (check in Control panel under USB for Nvidia Harmony or Shuttle)
The above assumes that you have installed the drivers.
Then open Modded Stock v1 or 2 which you should have already downloaded to the PC and it will install on the Vega (Vega will show NV Flash mopde across the top of the screen)
Once Modded stock is installed go to the apps menu and the recovery app is there. If you have already downloaded and put on your SD Card, the Vegacomb 9n Rom run the recovery and it will put you into CWM.
Wipe data, cache and in advanced the Dalvik cache.
Then select install from SD card and select the Rom and it will install.
If you continue to have problems Google Vegatools 4.1 and download and install
and it can do all the hard work.
Hope this helps

Hi guys, sorry to hijack the thread an take it slightly off course but........
Buy flashing this stock modded rom, will it reset my touch screen issues? Read that its a pretty common problem.
I've tried the fix at modaco, and it works.......for a very brief period, then back to just half of my landscape screen being recognized?
I've only had my Vega a week, can any other of you more experianced fellows point me towards a fix? It would be much appreciated.

I just wanted to say that I was really impressed by trying the Paranoid Android 2.55 ROM pa_p6800-2.55-17NOV2012-053308a, with Gapps package gapps-jb-20121011-signed.
IT IS A TOTAL AWESOME UPGRADE from official Stock Rom Ice Scream Sandwhich second phase. That's why I decided to make it easier for all the other owners of this tablet to just upgrade their tablet with this ROM pacakge.
So here is what I did with TWRP recovery:
1. Wipe Cache
2. Wipe Dalvik Cache
3. Wipe (Factory Reset)
4. Then I made a FULL BACKUP.
5. Then I decided to upload that backup on Torrents so everyone else may upgrade their tablet with a simple TWRP recovery.
Since I am still not permitted to write on the Development forum I would really like to know the following:
1. Should this Backup Recovery for my P6800 work on the same model of the Tablet of other people without problems? In other words, does this recovery work only for MY device or it should work on similar devices?
2. I am not sure who is the author who deserves true credit for this ROM, but I have been seeing the name Daniel quite a bit. AndroguideFr is saying it's not his work. Please provide me the list of people who should take the credit for this before I upload the torrent with the instructions.
Finally tell me if it's a good idea, what you think about it, do you have any advice for me? Do you think this should work?
Instructions & Torrent
The torrent link: Since I still can't post links you can just search for "Super Galaxy Tab 7.lly Bean Upgrade" on the pirate bay website.
The following is the instructions I provided with the torrent. I would be glad if you tell me what you think about it:
This torrent is ONLY for those who own the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 with Wifi & 3G (GT-P6800). Be warned that the instructions provided here will not work on any other device or model.
Noob Definitions:
ROM means FIRMWARE or DEVICE SOFTWARE
BRICK means Phone/Tablet Getting Stuck without being able to boot.
So are you happy with your Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 tablet Stock ROM (firmware)? In other words, are you happy with the original software the device came by? If you are not, there is good news here. I have tried my best to make it as easy as possible to upgrade your Tablet with the best ROM I have come across for this tablet, which is Paranoid Android version 2.55 with Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2.
Why I am recommending this ROM and why I am doing this? Simple, I have tried all previous versions of Paranoid Android ROM for this device and they were all great but with minor to major bugs. This is the only ROM that I have found to be:
1. Super Fast. It consumes only an average of 120 megabytes of your internal tablet memory and all Samsung bloatware is removed by default.
2. Stable. I haven't come across any problems with it up till now and the smoothness of the graphics and device responsivity is really amazing.
3. Battery Saver. All Paranoid Android Jelly Bean ROMs I have tried save a great deal of battery power. You will notice at least double battery standby time switching from the stock IceCream Sandwich.
4. Of course WiFi & GPS are now tested and working.
I have not tested this ROM for more than a few days, however considering all the progress I have been seeing I expect only very few bugs that I would wholeheartedly sacrifice for this great experience on my tablet. The instructions include a full backup of your existing Data/ROM so just in case you don't like your new upgrade you should be easily able to recover your previous ROM/Data as they were before.
Introduction:
- I have made the hard work so you don't have to do it yourself to upgrade your tablet. I followed all the online instructions to install the following ROM file "pa_p6800-2.55-17NOV2012-053308a" with this Google Apps package "gapps-jb-20121011-signed" on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, and then I had reset my device (factory reset) and took a FULL BACKUP with a recovery software called TWRP.
- This torrent is the FULL BACKUP recovery made by TWRP and once you install (flash) the TWRP recovery software on your device you will be able to take this BACKUP and recover it on your own device without problems. So here are the detailed instructions:
BE WARNED:
1. Before beginning make sure to charge your device battery to above 80% !! Losing power during recovery may BRICK your tablet.
2. I repeat: This torrent is ONLY for those who own the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 with Wifi & 3G (GT-P6800). The instructions provided here will not work on any other device or model.
3. The instructions provided here are accurate to the best of my ability and I will help you upgrade your tablet by replying to your comments if you had any problems BUT STILL you will do this at your own risk and I'm not responsible for any data you may lose or tablet you may brick.
4. Please read the instructions in the given order and do exactly as mentioned to avoid any problems. Should any questions arise just raise your hand and ask before continuing. It's better to be safe than sorry.
5. Your Tablet must be ROOTED for being able to install TWRP recovery given the following instructions if it's not rooted try following this link before continuing further: (link provided)
In case this link doesn't work you will find many tutorials online on how to ROOT your Galaxy Tab 7.7 just Google it and good luck, then come back here.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Objective: Preparing Extracted Data
After completing torrent download extract the file "SamsungGT_7.7_Custom_ROM.rar" with WinRar on your PC on your prefered location and leave it there until required.
2. Objective: Installing TWRP Recovery on Tablet
Open Google Play market on your Galaxy Tab search, download and install the GooManager application. Open it, and look for "Flash ROMS", a message will pop-up telling you "IN ORDER TO USE THIS FEATURE YOU MUST HAVE AN OPENRECOVERYSCRIPT COMPATIBLE RECOVERY", just choose "Try to find one for me". This should download the TWRP recovery software and automatically flash your device you will see a pop-up message saying "TWRP recovery is installed successfully". If your device is not ROOTED the GooManager application will not have the privilage to FLASH your ROM. If your tablet is not rooted just quit this tutorial, search for online Tutorials on how to root your Tablet on Google and come back again.
3. Objective: Transfer Recovery Backup onto Tablet
OK, now you have to copy the TWRP folder you just downloaded through this torrent onto the EXTERNAL SDCard of your Samsung Galaxy Tab. To do that, just connect your device to the computer with its USB cable and in a minute or 2 you should be able to see your Device "GT-P6800" under Portable Devices (if you are Windows 7) or perhaps "Removeable Device" (if you are on Windows XP). Just make sure that you copy the extracted TWRP folder on your external storage (SD Card) on your Galaxy Tab. If you did not see your external drives on My Computer you might need to install Samsung Kies Drivers so your tablet is recognized on Windows.
4. Objective: Boot Into Recovery Mode
Now you have the TWRP recovery software flashed on your device and the recovery Backup itself on the external storage. The next step is to Power Off your Galaxy Tab completely, then Press the Power Button and hold on together with the Volume UP (+) button. Once you see the Samsung Galaxy Tab logo remove your finger from the Power button and you should see TEAMWIN with blue background and you will be in Recovery Mode.
5. Objective: Full Backup of Existing Data
Once you are in the TWRP recovery screen just touch on the "Backup" button to make a full backup of your current ROM & Data so in case anything went wrong you can recover all your data later with no problems. Make sure that "System", "Data", "Boot", "Recovery" & "Cache" checkboxes are checked and then choose the radio button "Using Internal Storage" or "External Storage" depending where you have more space (external storage is recommended). Then Swipe the arrow on the left to the right to Backup your device.
6. Objective: Full Recovery of New ROM Package
After successful backup, touch on the home button at the top of the screen and touch "Restore" button so you can now install the New ROM recovery you downloaded on your external storage. You will see 2 radio buttons one is "Using external SD" and the other "Using internal Storage". Since you put your recovery on external storage just leave the radio button checked on "Using external SD" and you should see the "FRESHBACKUP" recovery folder, touch on it. In the next screen make sure that the "System", "Data", "Boot", & "Cache" checkboxes ARE CHECKED. Considering you have made all the steps exactly as mentioned so far Swipe the left arrow from LEFT TO RIGHT to recover your tablet into the new ROM. Wait until all the recovery steps are finished indicating that all is successful. You will find a button to "Reboot System" or similar.
7. Objective: Be Patient, It's Happening
Once you reboot you will notice IT WILL TAKE SOME TIME AT FIRST don't panic, just leave it finish what it is doing for as long as 10 minutes. You will find the "Android is Upgrading" pop-up optimizing your applications, that is totally normal. Then finish all the step-by-step instructions given on the screen in regards to your Google Account and Good Job You are now enjoying Paranoid Android 2.55 with Jelly Bean 4.1.2. You can customize it as you wish from the settings.
Troubleshooting:
In case you had any problems in Steps 6 & 7 or you didn't like the new recovered ROM just go to Step 4 (boot into recovery mode) and recover your original data you backed up in Step 5.

8. Evernote (Great Cloud based Notes - Never lose your important notes).
9. Bluetooth File Transfer.
10. Juicy Defender (Battery Saving App).

12. TapaTalk (Great forum-ing experience for Android).
13. Yahoo Weather (the most simple widget for Weather Info)
14. WordWeb dictionary (great free dictionary).
15. MX Player & ArmV7 process codec package (very good media player).
16. Dr. Web Light antivirus (The lightest antivirus for android with very high detection rates).
17. WiFi Analyzer (great for deciding on which Channel to put your WiFi router so you have the highest reception).
18. CamCard (Scans your business cards and automatically fills-in to your contact list).
19. Adobe Flash Player (It is no longer available in Google Play but you can find it in online tutorials on Google, it's a must for some websites to work).
If you have any inquiries just comment on the torrent and I will respond, otherwise send an email on [email protected] Torrent commenting is more recommended though!
Can you please post a youtube video of the rom

Only problem with Paranoid is that it is based on CM and there are many know issues. My biggest issue is the video codecs. The devs will not fix this and any videos I have that play in ICS will not play in any ROM based on CM. Would love to have a Jelly Bean ROM but with some many know issues I am happy with ICS until an official update comes out, if it ever does.

I haven't faced any problems with the following apps:
MX Player
MX PLAYER ARMv7 codecs
Everything works with me with those. Just tell me what are you trying to play maybe I never tried your formats.

I am not sure about that but this build is acclaimed to be WiFi and GPS fix.

I suggest that you guys give a try to this Rom because the performance versus feature boost makes the ICS stock Rom look like an ancient slow tablet. The delay of opening the Phone app is highly reduced and I rarely ever lag on keyboard.
Quick question befour i flash this rom is otg working or not
Thanks

Sorry what is OTG? Ok I checked on Amazon and I guess I have never used this device. But the usb connection to the computer is working as expected normally.
Secondly, why do you have to take a risk in flashing a ROM? Take a full backup recovery of your existing configuration, should anything go wrong you can revert back so easily without losing anything. Let me know if you need any help.

Finally, I found and flashed with it.
My first impression is positive. Thanks for your suggestion.
GPS and all other HWs are working..
But the Paranoid settings under Settings are not working and not adjustable..
Which version of gapps did you use? What exactly is not working in paranoid settings?

that's what i did yesterday, not sure about all this mumbo jumbo extra steps this guy is posting.
downloaded 2.55 - was coming from stock so went into CWM, flashed PA 2.55, rebooted into recovery, then wiped cache, dalvik and did factory reset, then rebooted into recovery and flashed PA 2.55 again.
booted up, rebooted into recovery and flashed gapps.
easy peasy.
I didn't try changing that the default is fine for me. I guess you can find better help in the development forum on this issue.

All the movies I have are either straight digital copies or dvd rips, they have not been converted into anything. They play fine in ICS but on any CM based ROM they don't, no matter what video player I used. Again it all has to do with the the missing codecs of ICS. I don't want to waste my time converting all my movies just because the ROM does not support them.

If you don't provide the extension of the files, or the codecs of the type of files that you are trying to play I believe I cannot help you. But I am still telling you that I haven't faced any problems trying to play any kind of video file up till now.
Hi
i searched the google/forum but I do not find the answer.
I am newbie in this topic so probably answer is simple :
went that way : http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_xt897
all ok until last moment : point 6.
after wipe data/factory reset - i had to select zip. i copied to sdcard http://download.cyanogenmod.org/get/jenkins/57390/cm-10.2.1-xt897.zip
then i had to select this zip , i choose option "choose zip from sdcard" and.....
Phone hangs! CWM do not respond to any activity, nothing going on on screen, i even hadn't any possibility to choose good file.
what to do next ? pull out battery ? (in photon q is little tricky with torx )
one thing that not happened properly - i went to mounts and storage, i saw /sdcard/ (not external) but when i tried to mount it - mounting fails (there was not unmount sign) but i can monunt external_sd.
last writings on screen - backup comlete, Formating bla bla bla... . Data Wipe complete.
HELP!!! "poor" newbie from Warsaw
solved
i had to unscreew the plus screew from the battery. Problem solved. Please delete post
With POWER+VOL_DOWN (hold for about 10 seconds) you can reset the phone.
You should know that you are trying to install an old ROM.
Look for the CM11 thread in the Original Android Development forum.
Besides CWM is not up-to-date. It is not SELinux/KitKat/Android 4.4 compatible.
Use TWRP or OpenRecovery.

Thanks a lot! i will know this for the future
1: I do not tried holding anything more than 5 seconds.
2: for photon q there is only nightly/milestone snapshot for KitKat - for me this isn't enough at my stage
I don't had so much time to read the cm11 thread and figure out which features works/won't work, so I choose safe option but definitely, I will catch up
3: CM10.2 is a LOT nicer than original 4.1 from Moto, i am pleased that i done this
Second jbbl-snapshot appeared
The PQ have more KitKat snapshots. We just rely on the old jelly bean bootloader (jbbl). That's why we have only two m-snapshots in the jbbl builds.
KitKat is quiet stable. I use it for everyday. I haven't tried the newest (M11) snapshot but I have a good feeling about it.
Btw. if you upgrade from CM10.2 to CM11, you have to clean flash. If you use titanium backup pro, you've got most of the work done pretty fast. (It is possible to purchase TB without the Play Store )
Besides CM11 is more up to date, that's another important fact.
But if you want to stay at CM10.2, please do so. I don't want to discuss anything that you personally prefer
This is my first attempt into breathing life back into my tf300t I've had for almost 3 years. Hardly used it do to the continuing blog down that always occurred and the lack of updates by Asus eventually led me to unlocking/custom rom/rooting and then soon thereafter to here. Knowing nothing about the process and procedures, although somewhat computer literate (I started on a TRS-80 in the early 80s), I did the cursory research for the uneducated I decided to try the lollipop variant of Kisskat 5.1.1. I used TWRP to make a recovery back up and then wiped/flashed/booted. Fooled around with it some but discovered a few quirks. For one, the zone closest to the Asus logo was rather warm to almost hot even if you throttle back the performance. But more importantly after installing my apps via the play store I began to notice some media issues. For one, the video was a bit choppy (I use VLC player) and my mp3s seem to be inoperable on almost any app. (I typically use Fusion and EZ Folder Player but nothing seemed to work). I kept getting issues that seemed to be related to the recognition of folders of file types. Often telling me an mp3 file was not a recognized folder or that the file type was not recognized or in some cases (EZ Folder Player) I simply could not change directories to access files. Any help in these areas may put me back in the KissKat Camp... at least until the thing catches on fire... then we can roast marshmallows and have a camp sing along.
Before jumping on the forum I thought I'd try a more simple fix - try another rom. Tried OmniRom and while not as zippy (or hot) it seemed stable enough to go with for a while. Did the Gapps recommended for the latest pop rom and the superSU file. Loaded my apps from the play store. Then decided that perhaps I should back up all my apps after having went though applying all the correct passwords and what not. Read the Titanium Backup was a the best option. Made an initial internal mem backup of all apps then read that I could create a zip of the apps to use as a recovery method off of an SD Card which sounded the better option for me (seems far more secure). Then I felt that I was at a juncture where I should test my backups before moving on the custom folders and docs and so forth only to find out a problem was in the works when the time came at an inopportune moment down the road. Well I discovered a problem. I booted into TWRP and wiped then used my recovery to bring it back to the last known state before my first flash of a custom rom (not sure if this is even a necessary step but it seemed like it certainly couldn't hurt). Then boot/re-boot to TWRP, and having read a full/complete wipe was necessary I wiped everything (Full data format - then wiped all options in the advanced wipe section other than my SD Card where I was holding my files for flashing). Then flashed (1)OminiRom 5.1.1 (2)Recommended Gapps package (3) SuperSU, and - this is where I may have had a bad moment - the Zip file generated by Titanium Backup Pro - Is this even where I can flash install this file???Was kinda lost there. Well... I think I then tapped the TWRP button for wiping/clearing the Cache / Dalvik Cache having read (although also having read to the contrary) that this was necessary to avoid a bootloop. Then I rebooted and arrived shortly thereafter at the OmniRom Boot animation of the droid bot blinking eyes and wiggling his antennae which is as far as this Rom, which once loaded and operated fine, will now go.
I have since tried several times to reload the rom only to the same end. I have even tried the latest nightly on the rom. Same result. Tried the latest version of TWRP (2 updates since the 2.8.5.0 I initially installed with) and both updated TWRPS were riddled with problems for me - Most importantly they would not reboot - had to force close via the power button only to have TWRP reboot to itself and the process start again. As well, TWRP would not do anything as no partitions were mounted nor could I mount them - just red error messages on the console screen when I attempted to do even a simple wipe. Obviously I was getting deeper into the omniRom twlight zone.
KEEP IN MIND - this is the weird part - I COULD and still can (1) Boot to TWRP and recovery to my initial recovery file I made of JB 4.2.1 stock from Asus (if it didn't suck with lag I would have stayed there to begin with) and (2) I COULD ALSO FLASH THE KISSKAT CUSTOM ROM but as I said I had issues with it which led me to try OmniRom which I thought was a good choice until the problems.
At this point, as I sit here - I have used fastboot to reinstall the TWRP 2.8.5.0 (since it was what worked initially) and I have TWRPed to the recovery JB 4.2.1 and then wiped everything using TWRP - Data Format and all advanced wipe options less my own SD Card. Another issue - I tried the latest release of KissKat #26 and this time, in addition to the problems noted earlier, I cannot seem to mount the SD Card as it is now unrecognized by the TF300t (although it worked fine in the #25 build).
I am at an impasse and any help with any of these problems would be greatly appreciated. I just want to get a decent functioning custom rom on this tablet to get some more life out of it.
Thanks in advance,
Dog.... from somewhere near the outer limits of the realm of... the twlightRom
Hi there!
First I want to thank every poster of xda-developers who did his utmost to "keep the TF700T alive". I bought mine about 5 years ago and within 2 years I stumbled didn't use it because it had become terribly slow. Four years ago I stumbled by accident on this forum and came to the conclusion that I was not the only one that was very disappointed by Asus on this machine, ànd I learned that people with more knowledge had been busy to adapt more recent versions of androïd-builds for the TF700T. Two years ago I decided to try to get a new life for the tablet. I found the tutorial of berndblb for installing CROM BI KK (thank you!!) which guided me within 1 day to a clean installation. However, my TF700T still felt slow (starting up 2-3 minutes, slow internet etc) but: I started to understand the proces of unlocking and rooting, installation of a recovery file etc. This made me more confident an yesterday I upgraded within an hour to Androïd 7.1.2 KK Nougatella (thank you timduru!!). I downloaded the indicated ROM-files and used the TWRP-menu I installed for the first update and in no time I had a quick and smooth operating TF700T. Before starting flashing the ROM I did a factory reset. Now there is one issue left: when I go the the Play Store and ask for "my apps" I get the list of all the apps, including the apps I bought (even with the data I bought them and the price I paid) and the remark: 'INSTALLED'. When I close the Play Store it says: "the app will be installed on your device in short time". Apparently Play Store still uses an old data-file; can anyone tell me what I have done wrong, or which file I should wipe to be able to download every app I like to re-install?? Then my TF700T would be as-good-as-new!
Thank you!
You did not format /data before installing the new rom, did you? Just wiped it?
You'll have to start at square one again I'm afraid:
Format /data, convert it to f2fs, then flash the rom again
Thanks!
Indeed I did not format/dat etc. I will do as you suggested this weekend and cross my fingers it will succeed as smooth as the first flash of Nougatella.
I will let you know if it has been a succes.
Hi,
What an interesting post created by hepkeb!
I have exactly the same situation, and of course I forgot to format the /data partition + convert it to f2fs
Thank you berndblb for your helpful advice :good: :good: :good:
So I go back to square one, and cross my fingers
Bernard
Hello,
It's honey for the soul that I am not the only one that has a crunch for the TF700T, my first tablet and now a toy to do experiments with.
Situation now:
I dit the format etc from the TWRP-menu, and have now a tablet with minimum OS (only 13 apps remained, f.e browser (working, can use internet), email (no accouts left), contacts and photogalery (all empty). When I try to link the tablet to windows10- windows7 or Mac there is no automatic connection established. In explorer or Norton Commander I 'see' TFT700T without any content. When I try to copy or transfer files to the tablet I cannot find the file on the tablet. USB-controller and SD-reader seem to be dead, so I cannot re-install my old OS (CROM BI KK). Is there any hope left for me......?
Oh no - your fun is just starting my friend. You'll just have to go through a crash course here:
1. You formatted data and then reflashed the rom, right??? But obviously not gapps or did you?
Sure everything in /data is empty! You just formatted the data partition! The user data partition is also what Explorer is showing you when you connect via USB cable, so no surprise that you do not see data there.
But why would the microSD card reader be dead??? Which file explorer are you using on the tablet?
Boot into TWRP and go to Install, navigate to external sdcard and check the contents. That's where you should have all your files for flashing btw, not on internal memory where they get wiped. If it does not show you the external card make sure it is mounted under the Mount menu or try a different card. Format on the card should be fat32.
When in recovery you should have an adb connection if adb fastboot are set up correctly on your PC. You can also boot into Android it seems, so you also should have an adb connection in Android. With both you can adb push files from your PC to your tablet to your heart's content! You just gotta learn how! :silly:
But that's what Google is for, right?
BTW, about trouble connecting between tablet and PC: What security software are you running? You may want to shut down your router or unplug the PC from it and then temporarily disable your firewall and virus software. Some of that stuff is incredibly intrusive and blocks you from doing totally legit stuff.

And, guess what? My TF700T is OK! :good: :good: :good:
With the recovery twrp-3.2.1-0-tf700t, KatKiss Nougatella 7.1.2 and the Beans Gapps.
All is functional under Android 7.1.2 :laugh::laugh:
Small history:
- with KatKiss alone, impossible to connect to Google Play, unrecognized device, etc, even with the Wifi on/off.
- with KatKiss and the Beans Gapps, Google Play is OK but... there is a conflict with the keyboard, it plays a message every minute (the keyboard has stopped, etc)
So, after a try with CROMi-X-ET_v3.0-RC2 (beautiful, thanks again berndblb), which was under Android 4.2 (not good for me), I reinstalled KatKiss and the Beans Gapps with a little change: I deleted the Keyboard directory in the Beans Gapps ZIP before the install.
And, magic my TF700 is functional completely, and as a gift it recognizes my new micro SDXC card (400 Gb).
Again and again, berndblb maybe you are the last one standing here to support newbies on the TF700
You work great
Thank you one more time :fingers-crossed:
Well, this rom supports OpenGapps, not Beans', so no surprise if parts of it don't work.
And sure, without the gapps package you won't have the Google services framework which is pretty much the base for running G-apps. But I just dedicated one of my 700s as a music/quasi-Alexa device and for that I don't need or want any Google interference or connectivity. Remember that as this device gets even older and software gets resource hungrier :cyclops:
Glad I could help
Hello,
First I want to thank you very, very much for your support. I must admit that in january I did not have time or energy to start all over again with my TF700T. But now that summer has gone and it has been a rainy weekend
I decided to start again. After reading all the posts in this thread it became clear that in my opinion I had done the upgrade according to the instructions. My TF700T did function on base level (internet OK, visiting sites OK,
Key-board OK etc.) Just problems with access and installing apps from Google Play did not work. I also read your last instructions and only then I stumbled over the word 'gapps' which I only than interpreted as G-apps.
Like you said: thats what google is for: I downloaded the right version of G-apps, flashed with TWRP the file on my TF700T and voila: everything worked! I apologize for not having the right brainwave earlier but a
70-year-brain takes it time sometimes ;<)
I thank you and timduru and I still am very happy with my Infinity! hepkeb
