In a real fix here! Me & my roomie are both having Xperia L. THe problem is that both have the same MAC ID shown in wifi-advanced menu,(ending in :FF I think)
This causes the router to conflict in assigning IPs and we face random drops & dead connections in wifi & manually reconnect to the network again & again after a few minutes the same occurs.
Both phones are rooted. He is on 4.1.2+some custom kernel & me on 4.2.2 + thunderzap latest.
I have already tried mac spoofer apps on play market but they always return -authentication error in wifi status after changing & no success on forgetting the wifi network & so on..thus need to change back to original MAC.
Is there a way to edit the MAC id in one of the system files - I know MAC is hardware coded but can I make some changes, maybe something 'can' be changed in the kernel or so? Please help!
So problem
Much confuse
Not wow
Same thing for my brother and me. We have the xperia v both running CM11. Also tried mac spoofer and got the same thing
*bump*
Ok i found the solution.

Just note that you can use any mac address you want, you don't HAVE to use the 4 new ones from the 4 files. But be aware that if you choose to set it to a custom address they have to be the same except the last (or last 2 if you get over f) numbers. If the last two numbers FOR EXAMPLE of the first address are 38 then in the next address you have to change them to 39, then 3a (because they're hex) and the last 3b. If you didn't understand anything you can reply here or PM me I'll be glad to help

You can use any mac address. Just make sure that the last number is by one larger than the previous. Also know that these are hexadecimal numbers, so after 9 goes a. For example 18,19,1a,1b...1f,20,21...

Hi pax97, I know it has been a long time since you posted here, but was hoping you are still able to help.
I'm really struggling with changing the mac address this way.
Is it possible to just replace WCNSS_1com_wlan_nv.bin with the one from my previous rom (nandroid backup)?
Thanks

I have been googleing this whole evening but failed. www.google.co.uk only give temperature in C for current condition but not tomorrow and the following day. Even that it was indicated as ??F. It should be ??C. I believe that F is hard-coded.
Hopefully the developer will improve further on this product.
Thanks for your help anyway.

great product....needs icons that shows the clouds for cloudy and sun for sunny etc....can someone work on this...maybe copying and pasting pics from the internet and then assigning them to values in the coding....if someone can give explanation on how..i can test it
ryah I know the chinese version has the icons, this is a first beta in english. I am not sure what he is programming in. I used PE Explorer to edit some spelling issues I originally saw. I have the icon set also that he is using with the Chinese version.
Also I have created a CAB file for it, will post it when I get to work. It cretates the folders, and puts the files in, and also created a RAI for :MINIWEATHER (thinking for future).

nope. those are sent by the server so some conversion routine need to be coded in the program.
thanks
Does that show the zip code or the city when you added that?

Xfaith,
I have installed this and it kind of works. I don't get what I had expected after modifying the ini file. I changed the city which I think worked but I do not get current weather and I don't get extended weather (more than one day). I am sure that I have made a mistake with my modification of the ini. After I modify the ini file do I have to reboot the phone to see the change?
Select update now.
Right now I only show today/tommrow on my slide panel, have not figured out (have not had the time) to go past that and see what else I can get going.
I tried to email the developer to add Celcius support from the settings pane, and he said give it about a week for icons, the chinese version already supports the Icons.
I am working on updating the .cab file I created, but can only do so much.

It show the city name. I tried to upload my homescreen pic but xda server is having problem now.
Thanks
No problem I used <city data in mine instead, which provides the same thing. The developer gave me an update but it was just the spelling issues that I already noticed. I wish I knew what language the program was written in. Or better yet could read the chinese version a little to compare the two.
But I can wait a bit longer as he updates the english version. Hopefully it will be less the a week before we can start seeing icons.

In my case if I use <city data I'll get this:
<city data="Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur"
so,
<postal_code data="Kuala Lumpur" is more appropriate. Well, whatever, we achieved what we wanted to see; that matters.
I dont mind waiting for the icons. My wish list:
- choice between celcius and fahrenheit
- display more days
- everything should be done through the settings panel rather than having to modify the .ini file.
- multiple cities choice
- able to modify city name (especially long names which I want to truncate)
Question: does the "Get Network Time" update the device clock? and can I change to a different server to get the time and the weather report?
Does anyone know what the easiest way to fix the time for received text messages on a Touch HD because mine displays them as 5 hours earlier. Please help! very much appreciated thanks!!!!
extremely strange. to my knowledge SMS timestamps are written according to the device's clock...
could be it that somehow the main clock is set to a different time zone to the one your actually in? ie, im in the uk, and ive got my clock set +5 hrs but set at the right time? does that make any sence? mm gotta try that one
All MY messages show the right time, but the person I'm talking to, their messages show a time 5 hours prior

Yip thats wot i just found out. I text my other phone and it the message showed it sent plus 1 hour (ie i sent it at 4pm and it shoed 5pm). That must mean that the time of their server must be incorrect, so if im right, theres nothing you can do apart from telling them

Make sure you have CyanogenMod 4.2.3.1, by the way.
1) Unzip zip to desktop
2) Run Part 1.bat
3) When prompted to press any key, do so; the phone will reboot
4) When your phone is running again, run Part 2.bat
5) When prompted to press any key, the installation process is done.
6) Make sure GPS is enabled
7) Open Maps and press OK
8) Press Menu
9) Press Directions
10) Enter an end point
11) Click Go
12) Just under "Show on map", click Navigate.
13) When prompted to install the voice codec, do so.
14) Enjoy.

This is a continuation of a discussion that started in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4918275
My best guess as to why navigation works in the emulator but not on the phone has to do with what kind of device the Maps application thinks it is running on.
For example, if you start maps and press menu->more->about and look at the "Platform" line, that will be different according to the device (emulator or G1 or other) that you are running on. What we need to change (I think) would be that setting.
According to this link, you can programatically get that string (I'm pretty sure they were talking about that string) through the API. Anyone more familiar with the API know where that string is stored?
Also, any other suggestions as to why it won't work on a real phone may be discussed in this thread.
What does platform say on the emulator? According to the info in that link, it should be null.

You should then just do adb pull /system C: and then bring it here. I'm sure they won't mind you trying to break their system
One thing I noticed is that it repeatedly references epc.tmobile.com as the provider. Let's hope they aren't using that and checking for verizon or this is a fool's quest.
Some interesting things to note:
The Version string of the Maps app is different in the emulator than on the phone as well.
Emulator: "3.2.0 (#3232) Web"
Phone: "3.2.0 (#3232) gmm-google"
Also, there was a blog post put up before 1.5 was released showing a way that you could spoof the ANDROID_ID on the phone by modifying a database (article here). I don't know if this is valid since at the end of the article he stated that they were supposed to fix it with 1.5.
Edit: I may have gotten ahead of myself. The ANDROID_ID string I think is not the correct one that I was looking for. That seems to be unique to the phone and not to the model, maker, whatever.

The question is, even if we knew what the droid said - how can we change our Platform string to match. It's clearly not reading off of the build.prop file (and neither is the device string in the about phone menu).
Maybe it's a database issue (the database gets initialized the first time the phone is booted to the values in the build.prop file?) that just needs to be wiped.

Well let's see... what do we know so far?
The version string shows up differently on different phones and the emulator shows up with a general one, but all have the same number. So it's probably not that, it seems to be building that from information it gathers elsewhere on the phone.
It's probably not reading which network is being used since that would block the emulator(which isn't running off the verizon network).
The only thing left I can think of immediately is the model string. That would actually make perfect sense, check against the model string to make sure that it's either the emulator or the droid. Otherwise turn off navigation. Changing that would be my first thing to aim for.

No clue, probably need someone with experience making ROMs for that info. I'm guessing it has to be in some file somewhere. Seems highly unlikely they'd have done something as crazy as building that into the hardware.
Well, I modified cyanogen's build.prop file to include the lines below:
ro.build.id=ECLAIR
ro.build.version.sdk=5
ro.build.version.release=2.0
ro.product.name=sdk
ro.product.device=generic
ro.product.manufacturer=unknown
As well as put the Maps.apk into the system/app folder in his update file. Then I resigned the file, put it on my SD card and wiped my phone. I installed the "new" rom and booted up. The maps app works exactly as it should sans navigation options. The Version string i have now is the "3.2.0 (#3232) gmm-androidd-tmobile" one but the Platform string is unchanged.
I noticed in the "About Phone" menu, the Model Number (T-Mobile G1) was unchanged but the Firmware version said "2.0" and I'm pretty sure it said "1.6" before.

You would be right, cyanogen only makes builds from soure code. And the source code for 2.0 hasn't been released yet. So, obviously we need to have a modified build.prop before we flash a rom, or it won't read it correctly
I was wrong. I had that same modified build.prop on my phone before I wiped, I just hadn't noticed that the firmware version number had changed. Perhaps I didn't modify the right valued to also get the model number to change.

edit: opened it up and there is googlenav stuff com/google
There is also an android folder too. I'm going to look there first
As I'm going through these I found that Google has these things filled with static locations. Haven't found any that seem to lock it down, but that's not to say there aren't any
Okay, here's my situation. I have a ton of numbers in my address book (well, Google Contacts), and I use this app called Contacts Clean-up to make sure all the formatting of all my numbers are the same and everything. Now the problem is with this application it forces you to format your numbers so they have a "+" before your number (ex. +1-555-555-5555).
I went to use Darch's Legend ROM and for some reason that format of a number isnt supported, it just wont let me call the people. Being that I have hundreds of contacts between Google Contacts & Facebook I need to have my numbers formatted WITHOUT the "+".
Long story short, the app is open source & I was wondering if someone could modify it for me to make an option to not have the "+" in the number. I know someone's gotta know how to do it...
Here's the link... http://code.google.com/p/android-contacts-cleanup/
Thanks in advance.
just take a look at the source yourself. it's pretty clearly outlined when you find
svn/trunk/res/values/strings.xml
i'd do it for you right now... but i can't check out a copy of the source since i don't use linux
but if you look in the strings.xml, you'll see the '+' sign that you want to get rid of clearly. if you're running linux, simply modify the file to delete the + sign and package it back to the apk, i'm assuming. then it should work fine
It just sucks that I'm on my mom's Mac right now.
Any ideas how to do it from here? Or anyone with Linux willing to help a fellow Android guy out?
i'm not sure if it works on a mac, but give it a try anyways!
just go to terminal and enter
Code:
svn checkout http://android-contacts-cleanup.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ android-contacts-cleanup-read-only
To do it on a mac you would first have to install macports, and then run:
Code:
sudo port install subversion
After that you would then be able to check out the source.
Damn I'm on my mom's computer right now... I can't really install anything.
Ughh. Could anyone possibly try to do this for me if its not too much trouble?
I'll see what I can do. I might have some time to do it tonight yet.
Edit:
I have made the edits that are needed. Also, it required a bit more than just editing the strings file. This is obvious to anyone who has experience with Android development since the strings are only for display. As far as getting it to do what you wanted, that was just a few quick edits to the Formatter class.
PM me for a link to the .apk to install it. (I'm a new user, so I can't post links.) Just download it OTA. You will need to enable unknown sources in order to install it.

Hello,
do you know uptimeprj.com? They got a team for Android too.
You can download the app for the project for free in the market. Its called DroidUptime.
But first register on uptimeprj.com by clicking the "subscripe" button at the top or here.
Now login and open the app on your phone, press the menu button and insert your password and username, set the update interval to 2 hours, go back and press start. (if you want to give your phone a nickname just write something in the "hostname" field)
Now join the Android Team by clicking the button in the middle of the site.
Have fun!
App thread on their site
I joined it earlier today for giggles since my N1 is at 16+ days, but I have yet to see the data show up on the server.. Still shows 0 devices, etc.. The service is running and it's updated several times.
Any ideas?

Yep, it's all correct, I'll check it again, maybe look in alogcat.. Nothing in logcat, I've changed the password in the client (just in case I typoed), and letting it run again.

Done. By the way, does this require root to operate? I'm stock, unrooted, etc.

No it doesn't
Odd, I just noticed my Nexus and my wifes Aria both are not updating uptime.. Anyone else seeing the same?
Aha, alogcat tells me why..
W/System.err(24291): at org.r3pek.droiduptime.DroidUptimeService.getMACAddrMD5(DroidUptimeService.java:65)
W/System.err(24291): at org.r3pek.droiduptime.DroidUptimeService.sendUptime(DroidUptimeService.java:133)
W/System.err(24291): at org.r3pek.droiduptime.DroidUptimeService$1.run(DroidUptimeService.java:49)
Weird. I tried and tried to make it work, no go.. So I decided to put the phone on wifi and sniff the connection and see what's being sent up and received... and it's worked since.
Shame, I was trying to get the wifes Aria on the list.. it had nearly two months uptime, but locked up on her the other day.
Version 1.4 is on the Market. Hope it works better now.
