[Q] Factory Reset Not Removing Files - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I've reset my phone a few times and it has removed ALL files (photos / music / movies) etc. which is great.
I rooted my phone a couple of days ago and am still playing. I did the same thing as usual tonight, factory reset within Settings.
This time the files were NOT removed. Is this normal once the phone is rooted?
Thanks!
Craig

Sorry how does that answer my question at all?
I'm asking if performing a factory reset on a rooted device is not meant to remove the files mentioned.

Custom recovery is specifically designed NOT to clear /sdcard (or /data/media/0).
You have to do a data wipe before flashing a new rom.... but then you also wiped the rom from your /sdcard, you have nothing to flash. Also you'd have wiped all your titanium backup data. If you think about it, it makes sense.
By the way, factory reset in settings uses recovery to reset

Weird available memory bug. No Free beer! or boobs!

Ok now I hopefully have your attention...
I think there may be something wrong here. My available memory seems to be a bit low for the very little media/apps I have actually installed on my 16gb nexus 5. Can anyone shed some light on this please. Surely something is wrong...
Should probably point out that I'm rooted pretty much stock with the Franco kernal.
Sorry about the links to the screenshots (won't let me upload here from my phone) and sorry about trying to trick you with free beer and boobs. My bad.

Please use descriptive titles in your thread. Ones that actually reflect your issue.

Thanks
If you have CWM recovery and taken a backup, it will be in /data/media/clockworkmod, instead of the correct place of /data/media/0/clockworkmod.
Fair enough. Sorry teacher, won't happen again

Didn't see your last cwm bit. That sounds like the issue. Didn't even think of that! Cheers. I'll delete some backups to see if that works.

Yeah lol Your suggestion worked so thank you for that. I just assumed the backup would just be a few MBs. Thanks again.
No problem

Can someone upload the New UI sounds from 4.4.1+?

I've heard that the 4.4.1 update to the nexus 5 fixed the volume on system ui sounds. Can anyone upload those? I'd love to have them on my HTC one. I downloaded a file that had kitkat sounds but they are completely inaudibly quiet.
Can anyone help my kitkat fix? :3

[Q] efs Nexus 5

I keep reading the Nexus 5 has the EFS placed like Samsung, is that true or is it safely stored somewhere?
So that a IMEI wiping/corruption isn't possible like with Samsung devices
You must be careful with EFS, just like with Samsung

So you mean the Nexus 5 has stored the EFS like Samsung? Not like the Nexus 4?
I don't know anything about the nexus 4. EFS is a partition, just like my S3

Hi rootSU. Is there currently a way to backup the EFS using Philz Recovery? I can't find it anywhere. I'm using the latest one you posted (v 6.09.2).

Yes, but Samsung devices have problems with it due to the fact the EFS is partly saved unsafely. Is it also unsafely stored on the Nexus 5?

Safe / unsafe - not important to define states. Its corruptible and needs backing up and that's all you need to know

I don't have this device but, the following area of the forum is specific to your device.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5
Your best bet is to post this question within the following Official TWRP thread for your device.

There's always the fallback option in the following thread for your question.

Ty for your answer, but I tried to found answer in other threads. Nothing. I know how to restore backup, but nobody told how to restore encrypted backup. Looks like this thread is prohibited by Lord Voldemort

The last thread i had posted was to the help thread for your specific device.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3624656
I don't have this device and the help thread is where I would go to ask a question if I can't locate another thread for an answer.
I don't have this device but, I do have TWRP and, personally, if I can't restore a backup, then i just delete the backup file and start over again with a fresh installation on the device. It's a bummer but, nothing is perfect or guaranteed.

Making others aware of an issue is a great thing to do but, if there's a specific support thread, like the following, it's an even better place to make any issues known for other members who have that specific device and TWRP.

I wish you the best of luck!

All i did was perform a search using "Software Backup Data" since backing up data, typically, also includes a way to recovering data.
Also, those were just a handful of results from the search too...
Good Luck!

I would suggest DiskDigger. There is a free version as well as a paid version both has there own features.

I found this very interesting. I initiated a firmware upgrade via SPFlashtool and it wiped the whole NAND. I am wondering if I could recover the whole NAND image with the software given above. I didn't touch the device after the upgrade so that the remnants of the old files won't get overwritten.
