[Q] weird behaviour/glitch on N5 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone experience a strange glitch with the system behavior?
Like, when you press back to close an App and suddenly it would open and close a previously opened App.

Yeap, have the same, unfortunately I can't track what could be the root cause, didn't pay attention to it in the first place.
Could be a Google update or maybe switching to ART

Multiple Icons for same application on CDMA Hero

Hey, not exactly sure about posting in the right sub forum but i have a little issue
i am currently using a CDMA Hero for Sprint and everything has been going well after fixing the battery issue with a different messaging app, but now a new little annoying issue has arised.
lately when i have opened my menu bar for all my apps i have been getting multiple icons for the same apps
Examples such as Bonsai Blast and Teeter have 2 icons right next to each other that are the same. They both work but its kinda annoying
also some of the applications names are incorrect. instead of ChompSMS its titles is now com.p1.chompsms along with Google Voice being voicemail.xxx... etc
i have tried searching the forums quite a bit and haven't quite found an answer for this issue and am not sure if it applies to the GSM version (thinking it might be a bug for Sense UI)
anyone have the same issue?
i have tried reinstalling the applications and rebooting and it still keeps happening. (not really wanting to hard reset...)
Any help would be very much appreciated!
Thanks!
you are not alone, yeah for i have two print voicemail apps one with a long com..... something same with google sky and google voice app its odd but hey hopefully we will get eclair soon
I don't think it is the Sense UI. I think it is Android. They show the long namsspace name for the application...and some apps show other weird names as well. It happens when you reboot the phone, at least for me. I think it has to do with the way the apps register themselves when the phone boots. Or it may be sloppy programming in the manifest files. Not sure.
Having the same issues. Google Sky will actually show up as the first application, and titled something with about an End User Agreement. When launched it pops up the EUA and only option is a force close.
Not sure what is causing it either.

I had that happen also. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and it fixed itself.

I bet if you reboot your phone the issue will return though...try it!!!
If that IS the case, see my post in this CDMA forum about app versions reverting. what has happened is that your app, in this case google sky, has reverted to an initial version, without telling you.

Just tested this and you are correct! Google Sky maps and Google Voice are the ones that do this for me.

I've confirmed that this app version reverting issue happens with at least 16 apps, not just the two Google apps you mention. I have a support question open with Google, so hopefully they can figure it out soon. It makes people think something else is wrong entirely.

I really think this now too,
so far i reinstalled Flixster Movies and Handcent SMS and when my phone reboots i get some different weird icon for both that are not the original ones.
also with the reboot, one of my original problems happens with the names of ChompSMS and Google Voice with their com.xxx.etc names
it has to be something changed on a reboot.
Google Dev group is on it. No fix yet though unfortunately:

Mercado, would you mind also informing them that a reboot also is causing apps to revert to their older versions? I think the problems are related. Thanks!

Oops! Sorry for making it sound like I am in on the android developer work. It is way over my head. Just thought I'd share a link I'd stumbled across. If it's kosher, perhaps you might want to share the url to your version reverting bug with that group. Not sure how that works.
In any case, it does seem like this is all related (missing icons, duplicate icons, renamed shortcuts, version issues, etc.). Unfortunately, it so far HTC has not acknowledged their role in the matter. Hopefully as the bug reports add up, they'll do something about it. Or, maybe they'll simply release Android 2.0 with Sense built in.

Ah, no worries. I have no shame, I'll put it in there whether it's kosher or not
After all, without visibility, a problem will never get solved.

App Ops Removed

So, I installed permission manager since I had it on my Nexus 7, and it started to crash. I realized after going through Nova's shortcuts that App Ops was actually removed. I found that to be kind of strange. I was actually hoping that this would be even more accessible in versions after 4.3. Anyone else notice this?

Yes ! I can't find it anywhere ,kinda pisses me off ,I thought it was a great feature and now its gone , I bet its because of app dev's whining because it worked really good , hopefully cyanogen or someone puts it back in .

Additional home screens being created

I have this issue where every time I install a new app, an extra homescreen is added to my phone. I can remove this by creating an app shortcut on the blank screen and removing it, or by restarting my phone.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue? And have you found a way of stopping this from happening.
Am I right in assuming that you have made sure that a new app icon is not being created every time a new app is installed from the store? That setting can be found in the Play Store. Sorry if this is too obvious, sometimes it is the little things.
Yes, I've had this too. It's not specific to the N5, I also get it on my other devices running GEL.
They disappear by themselves as well. No biggie.

It took me a while, but I did eventually remember seeing this setting in the play store, I just double checked and it is definitely off.

Hopefully will be patched up soon! As you say, it's not the end of the world, just a minor gripe.
Thanks for the help guys

OCD: Anyway to clean up old apps that still show insalled on Google Play webite?

I guess from years of rooting and changing roms and such the Google Play website shows hundreds of apps installed on my device that of course aren't.
By using Google Play on my phone and going to ALL I was able to painfully manually delete many of them but after a certain point it stops loading very old apps and no longer gives me an option to remove them from the list resulting in the website showing wrong results.
I Googled a solution but found nothing anyone here have any ideas?

To which Play Store webpage are you referring, "My Orders"? What exactly would you like to do?

My apps is what the OP is referring to. The only way to delete them that I have found is one by one. One of the true PIA's of the Play Store.

I've often wondered this as well. It'd be nice if the store would only display 90 days of download recency. It'd be even better if you could sub-cat the downloads by device (if you've had multiple).

Or something as simple as an option in settings to remove apps that are unistalled from the My Apps list.

I agree.
There should be an option within the Store to sync the device you're on @ that time and show what's been installed/uninstalled from Play Store for that specific device.
Play website leaves a lot to be desired. Lets not make light of OCD. People who genuinely suffer from it have a really bad time

I don't know who that's directed to but I have ocd and don't see anyone making light of it.
Anyway I don't even mind removing apps one by one but it seems after you go back several years time (on your phone mind you under ALL) it stops loading very old apps and there is just no way to remove them at that point.

OK I apologise then. I thought YOU were making light of OCD. You know, the whole "If I don't do xxx then I will die" kind of OCD (of which I am sure you know, there is no other). I'm sorry to hear you have that. My suggestion would be not to visit the play website. It's definitely preferable to feeling you will die because it is untidy.
Although the way you phrased this thread, it reads more like "I like things tidy" than actually having OCD, so again I apologise
No problem. It's not like this is keeping me up at night but it is something that has been on my min d to fix for sometime.

Google Maps keeps minimizing

Hi there,
not sure if this is a phone-specific problem or something else. I recently went from my LG G5 to a Zenfone 6 and used Titanium to bring over all my old apps. But when using Google Maps while driving, the app will randomly go into picture in picture mode even when no other app is visibly trying to open. Is there a way to find out which app causes this problem? Phone is rooted using Magisk boot image.
TIA
SoWhy
I remembered having similar issue in the past...it turned out to be a specific app that I had that kept doing that...(sorry can't remember it right now)

Hey,
To my best recollection, I think it was a bixby remapping app on my old Galaxy S9+ that did it. So unfortunately that won't apply to your situation, but it was definitely an app that was doing it.
Are you utilizing the PiP feature at all? If you don't, you can always disable PiP to prevent it from doing that.

Yeah, I would like to use PiP when it makes sense but not when nothing else is open
