Database Info

Help (if possible)! think my phone is done :(

This is going to be long!
If anyone has insight to this would be appreciated
Precursor: I am on CM9 nightly (7-27-12) with 6.0.1.0 non touch recovery (NS4G)
So last night I go to open my opera web browser and it would flash like it would open and instant close (no error message). I say OK thats weird and decide to reboot. Upon rebooted I am greeted with never ending amount of FC's from every app and service imaginable. I again say OK EXTREMELY weird and decide its time to restore my backup from yesterday.
I reboot in recovery and what do I get greeted with? Unable to mount /sdcard! Long story short after scouring google for about an hour I find that if I do a fastboot oem lock/unlock I should get back up and running. Thankfully that works and I install the newest 7/31 CM9 nightly.
I wake up today without my phone alarm going off when it should. Weird huh? I go to open the clock and get a FC from the clock application. Reboot and it works just fine. OK weird again.
Go to work and leave my phone on the counter to help a customer. I come back to the desk and my phone is in recovery mode? Uhhh what? I reboot the phone and it says "encryption unsuccessful" and the phone needs to wipe data and reboot to continue use...
I decide WTF why not, not like I can use it. At this point I'm worried though. The phone reboots to recovery and I guess does a data wipe (takes 3-5 mins) and reboots. Now I am stuck on the CM9 bootscreen and won't go past.
I have some ideas as to get the phone (hopefully) back up and running. Just curious what this sounds like to anyone more knowledgeable then me (especially the part where it tried to encrypt my phone without me touching it!)
Any thoughts or help is appreciated!
Edit: I tried copying files to sdcard from recovery using mount usb storage. The files copy over and as soon as I leave the mount menu and go to install the zip files WHICH I SAW ON THE SDCARD they ARE NOT THERE anymore.
Edit2: It still lets me install the CM9 7/31 nightly which I had saved on the phone yesterday. Even after wiping everything and reinstalling the ROM I can't get past the CM9 bootscreen
Edit3: Tried fastboot, odin, nothing works. Even after odin I still get the CM9 boot screen. Pretty sure something is messed up to the point of I need a new phone. FML!

Its the internal Memory thats messed up yes, But Please somebody fix this Bullcrap. We don't have the knowledge but I will gladly donate to you who fixes it!
I just bought a brand new screen for my phone and I don't freaking want to buy a new Phone At the moment, So if you find a way to help us then let us know since that could be lifesaving right now.

Pretty sure I've given up. Everything I've tried has failed... looks like it might be gnex time.

Have you tried just going back to the stock rom/recovery/bootloader with the samsung application?

The samsung simple dl tool just says "error" when I hit "start download" nearly immediately. Now I have no recovery or anything. Going to sprint right after I get out of work to get a gnex

Ugh... I'm sorry people Who will get to our problem. Paid samsung services can Help. Nothing else. I be a smart guy and do like NYYFan here and get a galaxy nexus. thank You everyone for help. i set up 48hours for anybody to help me or i get a new device. Might sound rude but its a choice i made.

I HAD THIS SAME EXACT PROBLEM
Temporary solution: heat the phone up with a hair blow dryer. get it hot but not so hot that it melts things. it will be able to boot up and work. I used this method so i could copy my sd card to my computer and wipe everything off
Permanent solution: turn your phone in for repair. there is no remedy to fixing this. apparently the circuit board or chip is bad and you can't fix it.
Luckily I had best buy black tie protection and I am waiting on my new replacement phone.

I work in a computer repair shop and going by that solution...sounds like a problem I may be able to repair using a similar method as some of the board-level repairs I do pretty often...anyone want to send me a dead lab rat? Lol

You can have mine lol x) And Yep i fix computers for friends and so on their friends and this sounds like Nvidia was behind the chip... xD

It wouldn't matter who actually makes a chip if the heating it up is a temporary fix. That is a OEM issue. Basically think xbox360 rrod with the warped boards the solder melting/failing and the chips get loose etc.
Unless heating up failed flash storage temporarily makes it work. Which I doubt is the case but don't actually know. Brings back memories of putting failing HDD drives in the freezer though.

Unfortunately that is good only if software screwed up your phone. In my case and I'm sure others when it is hardware failure, that won't work :\

Stuck at Bootlogo, no Backup/Fastboot/ADB

after some research I found one suggestion that I can't test yet so maybe until my battery runs out one of you can help me:
I unlocked my TF300T ICS 4.0.3 and had CWM running. Probably because of some mistakes of mine it stopped booting at some point and now I can't access recovery, Fastboot, and when I was able to get into CWM, the internal storage didn't work, which is where the NAND backup was stored. Now it only shows the flat white ASUS logo with "device is unlocked" in the corner. When I try to turn it off it automatically reboots.
ADB shell can't find the device so I'm all out of ideas, except that I just read that that once it runs out of battery life the bootloader automatically resets. Maybe that'll help.
Does anybody have any ideas as to how or if I can actually fix this mess?

I let mine discharge all the way, and then I recharged it. I can confirm that it does NOT reset the bootloader.

Well, not totally. We are going to need a whole lot of help though to be able to get bootloader flashed. We can access the device via APX. I think we need the partition table information and the secure bootloader keys (which ASUS has to release to us) in order to use NvFlash to flash the bootloader. Word is that the developers who came up with this procedure for the TF201 are working on this, and have been for a couple of months. Hopefully, a bunch of people bricking their devices all of the sudden will turn up the urgency on this. I'm not holding my breath, but I am keeping my fingers crossed!

Happened to me too. I'm hoping that ASUS will fix it for a reasonable price. Otherwise I'm just going to get a Nexus 7.

Count me in on the bricked parade. Except I did mine a while back. I may be missing something but how do you get to APX mode? I just reformatted my computer so I haven't got drivers or ADB set up yet. I probably should try before asking, however I don't ever remember getting into it before.

You can get in to APX mode by switching it on, holding the volume up button and than use the pinhole reset while keeping the volume up button pressed. If you have it connected to your PC, it will show up. No drivers tho, so it probably won't bring you far.
The problem with waiting for an NVFLASH solution is that we probably need an adapted bootloader to start with for it to work. Since its impossible to make any changes to it without fastboot, I wonder if any solution will become availlable. I will wait another month or so, and then send it to ASUS if no solution is provided here.
I'm sure the costs for repair will be less than the $200 that the nexus costs (and to be true, although the Nexus is a great machine, it's not comparable to the wonderful TF300 )

I was quoted between $87 and $100 to "repair the OS" on my tablet. It's still at the Asus RMA center, so I have no update on what they did with it. I've been posting progress over in this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1825265&page=3

Yeah, I saw your posts somewhere else as well... All the best, I've been hearing horror-stories about having to replace the mainboard etc. That would be a bit too much, I imagine :-|

just a quick update:
i sent the transformer back to amazon and they took it back no questions asked.
phew...

Same happened to me, I sent it to Asus about a month ago, they just replayed to me with a mail, saying that is out of warranty because of the bootloader unlocked, and that is gonna cost me $122 for the mainboard, and $65 for labor, it seems that the mainboard got really bad bricked, and they are replacing it....
Really bad for me, but at least I would have it back...

Unfortunately NVflash will only run on unbricked ICS Bootloader devices. You have to flash some files before you can use the special APX for TF300. So if you are already bricked it will not help.

I've just been quoted $122 + $65 + $10 shipping. Which comes out to a shade under $200 total.
End of the line, folks.
I'm not paying Asus $200 to fix a $300 tablet, and I'm basically going to be throwing in the trash at this point if I get it back.

[Q] How to fix my non booting transformer?

So i did something silly. I rooted my galaxy nexus, nothing went wrong and thought "hey, while im at it i should go root my transformer!"
So i booted it unlocked it using the app, booted it into recovery, and flashed cwm to it using fastboot.
Tried to open cwm to actually root it. Wouldnt work. Stupidly thought "hey im going to press delete data, that will fix it".
Now i have a tablet which is stuck on the asus loading screen and wont go past it nor can i seem to get it back into adb mode.
Please tell me i can rescue it somehow? Ive only had it for 3 weeks!
Any help would be appreciated, and i apologize if this has been posted elsewhere. Im just freaking out its going to burn itself out before i can fix it.

Lots of people have run into this problem. You would've found out had you searched with some key terms. If you "wipe data" from the recovery screen, chances are slim that you'll be able to restore your unit. However, do not despair. Given the mysterious ways this thing works, try this LINK to see if it helps. Some have done what you did but were able to recover, others couldn't. Good luck and remember whatever happens, it ain't the end of the world.

Dont tell me that I cant afford to buy another one. Best i could do is try and sell the dock and make a huge loss. Thanks for the link though - trying to get into apx mode now..

Not to mention the blasted thing keeps automatically rebooting itself.

They will fix it for a fee undoubtedly. Whether you can afford it is another question. It's weird they should provide the app. which if used would void the warranty. What kind of double-bind is that? You should inquire with them first and find out how much. Once ascertained, you should look around to see if you can get a motherboard for less. It would be different if your device doesn't work at all. I'm not telling you to do anything; I'm just wondering aloud how ironic this is where a completely dead tablet is worth more than a repairable one, 'cause if they can't see a thing on the screen, then they can't see a thing. And no-see tells nothing - no-thing voids nothing.

I like the way you think! It is kind of a joke that using their app voids warranty, but hey, i did press i accept.
I shall see how much it is. If i replace the motherboard is it liable to work straight away and is it a hard job?
Im sure they have a generator and all they do is enable apx mode and fix it like that. Wish it was a flat fee of under $100 because if so i would be on that in a flash..

I dont know if it helps, but I also was stuck on the asus screen and adb didnt worked.
I wrote a small story how I managed to bring my tf back to life.
I was out of hope and was willing to try everything before sending it back to Asus so I tried this.
Dont know if it helps, but I know your situation and if nothing works Asus will repair it for a fee...

p.s. one thing which you always have to concern about is making sure to have the correct bootloader (jb/ ics).

its not an app that if used void the warranty, its an app that _CERTIFY_ that you chosed, knowing what it entail, to broke the software "warranty seal".
and the warranty cover only construction defects, it wont ever cover damages thaty you cause by yourself.
why they shoud spend money (as paying the tecnincian costs asus) to fix your errors?

Replacing the MB with a working one is not very hard, and will get it up and running right away. Just follow some of the hardware guides around.

Heheh. This is not the place for this, otherwise i don't think you're gonna win in light of the existing body of consumer law and the reason therefor. Just think of this: what are Asus's interest and motive in releasing such app.? Why did they do it? You want to be law-abiding, that's your prerogative. I'd like to right what's wrong, legal or not, like "too big to fail" crap or corporate shamelessness. You live in a place with no public transportation. They sell you a Pinto-like car that's liable to blow up in your face when you use their special gas not sold anywhere else. But they are clever enough not to disclose that hazard when you buy it. Then they make you sign a disclaimer that you know the risk and assume it AFTER you already bought the car! The warranty should follow conceivable uses of the merchandise. It's the standardized cost of doing business. Especially when they provide the gas that you put in the car's tank. What did you alter or modify on your own that "breaks the warranty seal"? You see the point...

Alright anyone know where i can find one of these? Or should i just try and snag a "broken" transformer and salvage the board? A quick look on ebay revealed nothing.

have you ever seen on the back of any item an adhesive seal that cover a screw that says "warranty void if broken"?
exactly the same.
you can broke it and do wathever you want, its your choice, but dont ask them to fix it for you if you screw up with your modifications, that's not covered by warranty.
btw if you unlock your tf300 and then discover an hardware defect you're still covered by warranty, asus dont want to screw you up, just dont want to pay for your mess.

If you can manage to get fastboot to work at at all, I can save you the trouble of doing any messy hardware replacements. Download the most recent update from asus' website. Unzip the package and pull out the blob file . Run this command where "blob" is the name of the blob file fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash system blob You need fastboot installed on your computer of course. Now if you want to can flash TWRP or whatever, or just use your tab as is.

While the fact of the matter is warranties do only cover manufacturing defects, this isn't a thread for this type of discussion. This guys is asking for help not a f*cking debate where you like to play lawyer on developer forums.

I dont think i can get it to work since all i manage to see on the screen is the asus logo and it freezes. It has the wrong recovery on it now so i think fastboot is out the window. Im assuming the wipe data button wipes recovery too?
The only mode ive managed to get it in is apx mode and thats useless to me.

Fastboot and recovery are too totally different things. Even if recovery is totally botched you can still use fastboot. Its on the same screen where you wipe data. Looks like that. With the unit completely off Hold down the volume down button and then press power button. Select the USB icon, and connect to PC, that's called Fastboot.

So I'm in a similar situation to this gentleman. My tab, boots to the Asus Logo where in the corner it tells me The Device is UnLocked. I know how to access fastboot and recovery, I tried what you instructed, however it still only boots to the same screen.
My problem was I stupidly didn't follow the proper instructions to flashing the new Cyanogenmod 10.1 where it says I had to have the new JB bootloader, which I am guessing I do not have. So before I flashed it I made a nandroid of my old system, tried to restore and it won't boot back into the old system. So I wiped data, cache, davlik. Nothing, it won't boot past the Asus screen.
So right now, I've just downloaded a stock rooted rom of the latest asus rom. I am going to try to flash that from fastboot if I can. Any other suggestions I'm open to.

I had a problem getting my PC to recognize and fastboot my tab too. What worked for me is to plug tab into PC while off. Start adb then turn on tab, as soon as I turned on tab then I repeatedly try to see if adb recognized tab while it was powering up. After a few tries it worked. It was like it had to check at just the right moment to catch the tab. Hope this helps, good luck

Asus Transformer TF300T (i feel so embarassed >.>)

Just flash right one through fastboot. And don't forget reboot after flashing recovery(if don't do so it causes same bug but only for first time).

my tablet wont show up in fastboot... ...cuz.... i cant get into android anymore.(i should i have told that really)

To load device in fastboot press and hold volume_down + power buttons. Release them when bootloader menu will shown.

i wish i could get into the bootloader still....(i know how to get in there) i press power and hold volume down... nothing happens.... but the darn recovery boots... the bootloader is unlocked.

Did you wipe data with the 3rd or 4th icon? Don't nod, 'cause if you do, your tab is bricked now. Otherwise, if you try Buster99's method without result, then try all the ones in this thread. If nothing revives the boot screen, but just the "device is unlocked" and the dead Asus logo, the motherboard must be replaced, I'm afraid.

its a brick ok?... but yea this tablet was broken in my view anyway.... speakers didnt work properly.. tablet often would freeze after a while being on standby...
im going for the asus MEMO pad, is that a good tablet?
i will consider if i will or will not root my next tablet.(it may be hard to believe... but i know quite well what i am doing...just i cant afford another brick lol )

The current MEMO pad basically has the same specs as the TF300, except it wouldn't take a dock or keyboard. The new ones should have better CPUs, but Asus is mum about this. So toss a coin. I still think replacing the motherboard with a used one is a much better and cheaper alternative, unless you can afford a TF700 or 701. Get a 16GB for $50.00 on Ebay, and pop in a hi-speed sd card if you need room.

Did You try to send "adb reboot bootloader" comand when device in recovery?

so the memo pad is EXACTLY the same as the transformer?! what a rip-off!!!... though it is cheaper on the otherhand
seeing as how i already have sent this one to asus in regards of the speakers.... im not going to send this one in again
though i must agree with you its cheaper... this tablet i have now is just not worth all the hassle anymore and i think im better off buying(saving for) a new one instead.
even though i love to take risks... i will refuse to hack and crack the **** outa that thing.... oh well... its just a computer too
just be glad its not my life thats bricked xD

i found an nvflash from my tablet which i made 2 months ago..
i am positive that these files are from this transformer.
but i dont quite understand how nvflash works... and how to use it.
i hope this might fix it. this is really my last thing i will do for this tablet XD

There is manual for tf201. Just use tf300 stock rom and twrp recovery blob instead described in manual. And You may flash rom through fastboot instead 9.15 and 9.16 steps.
P.S.: Rom should match to version of bootloader which one You make nvflash backup. 4.0 can be grabbed here.

In a bit of a pickle

Before the hate police flood my new thread - yes I have searched xda for the answer(s) - but haven't had any luck. I've searched for 2 weeks before writing this.
I did a stupid thing. My device is unlocked and rooted but still had the Asus OS and i tried to change the fonts. Now it won't get past the ASUS boot screen. I also don't get the 3 (or 4 or 5) icons that are supposed to come up.
I've tried the power/volume buttons, motochopper, the Asus unlock (probably unnecessary) and a number of other things my searches but no luck.
I'm trying to find a step-by-step guide that can possibly help me with my particular problem.
After I completely get it going again I am going to install Cyanogen or KKrombi or some other OS.
This is a process that I am famliar with and have been doing since my T-Mobile G1 to my OPO without problem, but this time I am stumped.
Thank you for your time and help. Just point me to another thread or something & I'll take it from there.

Never heard before that somebody hard bricked the tablet that way and that's what you did it seems. Hate to tell you this, but if you cannot get into the bootloader (screen with 3 icons) this tablet is toast.

Bugger. I used Rom Manager to do it. It's funny I saw the icons once but not since.

Yep, using ROM Manager has bricked quite a few of these babies. That explains it. Sorry man....

I know you mentioned using various tools already, but have you tried fastboot commands with it connected directly to your computer?

It's something that I've tried but never been able to do it correctly - well not since my G1 - and that was step-by-step from Cyanogenmod pre-Inc.

Didn't see bernblb's second reply. If he says it is bricked, then it most likely is. I haven't toiled around on my TF700 for a long time now.
