[Q] KatKiss/KitKat Android 4.4 - move clock and notifications to bottom of screen - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Is it possible to move the clock, battery indicator, and notifications to the bottom of the screen? Going to 4.4 I've lost a little screen real estate because it's up to.

That's Tablet UI you're after which is not available in KitKat 4.4 atm / if ever

Obviously KitKat supports 3G, it is a phone OS afterall, but KitKat is not officially released for the TF101(G) so it would be up to a dev to include support for that particular model

Yes, you are right. Thanks for the clarifications

I just went from KKKK 4.2 to 4.4 and was miffed too by the lack of no obvious way to place Notifications in the bottom bar. Bugger.
Maybe being a "feature" that's universal across all KK roms , hopefully someone will make a mod that can be shared amongst developers and incorporated in custom ROMs.

Android 4.1.2

Will we receive android 4.1.2 or asus will just wait till android 4.2?
The only solution for now is to wait and see.
http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/09/...e-gives-nexus-7-owners-landscape-home-screen/
I don't think we will get 4.1.2 as we never got 4.0.4 before
I have no idea, but one thing I noticed in this announcement is that one of the improvements is the ability to rotate the Home Screen in landscape.
Just got my Infinity, and even the original Firmware had this ability, which was maintained in the JB update. I really like this feature.
Ironically, my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus, also recently updated to JB (Stock OTA update) does *not* have the landscape rotation in the Home Screen, which is one of my few gripes with the device. Yes I know some third party launchers will add this, but often create other unwanted effects, so I haven't explored this yet.
I don't think they added anything that will enhance the experience on this device specifically.

On 4.1.2 they have added to the functionality of the notification menu. Instead of having to use 2 fingers to expand the gmail notification, for example, you just need to use one finger now. But they still haven't updated GAPLESS PLAYBACK for google music.

Is there an option that has to be enabled or something? I still need both fingers to expand/collapse notifications.
Features I'd like
I've no problem with performance or battery life... those are fine
The only features I want is:
Wifi-Direct back (why would they REMOVE a feature in a UPdate?)
Fixing the random freezing that happens on normal OTA JellyBean and Custom ROMS. You'd try to turn on the screen but it won't, forcing you to reset the tablet by holding down the power button, that's all I want. <<< most important
Getting the wallpaper to scale nicely in portrait and landscape outside the stock launcher app
Removing idiotic items from the settings menu, like the tethering options. This is a wifi-only tablet, so how exactly would you like to use tethering? Your asking a cart to pull another donkey...

I don't know. I think the 4.1.2 is for the Nexus 7 GNex for now. The update we just got was only 4.1.
what the hell, you only had portrait in nexus 7 up until this update? really?
thought whole purpose of tablets were to go landscape
way smaller phones go landscape...why not for a much larger device off break to do that??
apple would have called this an innovation though

Hm, maybe Asus is going to skip Android version 4.1.2 and they will release Android 4.2 (if google release it at 29. oct)
They had skipped 4.0.4, too.
But its only speculation

4.2

So I'm loving my tf700, but supprised is still 4.1. Has there been any sign of 4.2 coming?

Nope, no sign, no smoke signal yet.....
Google replaced the Bluetooth stack in 4.2 and effectively destroyed Bluetooth on many devices. Google is now trying to correct the problem and have announced that 4.2.2 will be out shortly, whatever that means, and have a fix.
So I would think that no devices will be getting 4.2 for some time until Google works out its self-caused Bluetooth disaster.

I own a nexus 7 in addition to a TF700. It is running 4.2.1. The new Bluetooth stack brings back lag on streaming audio - particularly Neflix
There are partial fixes like occasionally clearing the cache on the Bluetooth service/software, and frequently restarting Bluetooth - but its a pain and it doesn't work well.

Right, and I am also not convinced that the new two-bar system UI is usable on a 10" device.
I also don't like the idea of the wasted screen space. On my Nexus 7 it's such a shame.
No thank you, I'd rather keep 4.1 with the streamlining updates Asus keeps sending us. For the moment 4.2 seems like a step backwards.

I would actually say that 4.2 is a step backwards.
4.2.2 is out for nexus devices. That means the bugs(Bluetooth and WiFi) in the the original OS got a fix so we could expect the update for asus transformer infinity in a month or so. Waiting desperately for it.
Why are you waiting desperately? What does it bring that you can't have now?

The new multi user support creates lags when a second user is added. The fix? Remove second user ... Gotta love googles betas!
4.2 is a keeper for me, mainly because of Google's swype-style keyboard. It's excellent.
And I would definitely like the new UI that is on nexus 10. The new multi-tasking is kinda nice. I guess swiping the apps up or down is better that swiping them sideways to close them.

The stock ASUS keyboard also has Swype-like feature, admittedly it is nowhere as good as Google's 4.2 keyboard. Nevertheless, I personally don't like swype on tablets, since it is a lot more tiring on tablets, I have to slide my fingers on a very big screen. To me swype makes a lot more sense on phones.

It has a mode that displays a smaller version that floats so that problem is non-existing.

[Q] Q: New android version, old layout - how?

Hi!
I really liked the old layout, but wish to have the new android version in the tablet.
Any ideas how to mod the appearance to be like it was before?
I really liked the home -buttons etc in the left corner (not in the middle). And the notifications in the old place.
Has anyone done this already?

There are roms that actually use newer android (4.3) and let you choose the UI style. You'll need to unlock the bootloader though.
I doubt that it can be done on the official osny ROM and with the locked tablet though.

Conversion i9505 to i9505G - Discussion/Rant

I'm not smart enough to do it myself.. however, I am still amazed that no one has been able to work out how to convert an i9505 into a i9505G. I know the partition layout is different, and I also know that there are ported 4.3 GE roms available.. BUT all of that aside.. has Samsung won the war here?
Which leads me to a separate subject.. but.. their knox efuse.. while it hasn't been long.. it looks like they have won there as well.
In any case.. I'm more interested in the conversion to i9505G. Does anyone know more than I do about the status or possibility of ever being able to convert a i9505 to a i9505G?
Well.. This is not as easy as you may think.
Need someone who has both I9505 and I9505G. Also need special connection to I9505 like JTAG to get direct access to flash. Then using JTAG try to dump whole flash from I9505G and upload it to I9505. And then depend on success and whole result, procedure can be simplified.
But JTAG is required at experiment stage if you are not so rich who can afford to buy tens (if not hundred) I9505 while experimenting
A full conversion (think about bootloader, radio) is not possible.
Samsung secured the bootloader very agressively .

I couldn't care less about running ROMs. I unlocked the bootloader but otherwise I leave my devices stock and unrooted. I know how to root and install ROMs but once I knew how, my curiosity was satisfied.
Honestly, I have had Nexus devices my entire Android life. I decided to branch out and try a GS4 with Touchwiz. I really liked my I337, so much in fact, that I also ended up purchasing a Galaxy Note 8.0 as well. There are definitely things in Touchwiz that I'd love to see Google add to the stock user experience. I'm referring to things like air view and having separate wallpapers for the home and lock screens. Alas, though, when you've used stock Android as much as I have, it's hard to use anything else.
The only thing I truly miss about Touchwiz is the camera app. The camera was simply amazing. The other things that are important to me, namely the IR blaster and the S-View cover functionality, both work flawlessly on the I9505G.

What i dislike most in stock Android is halo theme. It's really ugly. Micro check-boxes. Ugly seek-bars. Alert dialogs are too flat and sketchy. Halo theme looks more like concept than theme for daily usage.
TouchWiz theme was odd originally in time of SGS2, but it was getting better and better. On SGS4 it's nearly perfect. May be some elements like ViewPager and title bar need to reworks somehow. But overall it's way better theme than Halo. Also, there are many useful addons in TW ROM like quick settings panel, nice looking lock screen with quick launch shortcuts on the bottom, and other small tweaks making TW ROM much more useful than naked Android. And it's easier to remove unneeded apps/services/tweaks from TW ROM than add them into naked Android.
I would think about I9505G over I9505 only as device with bigger user storage running custom TW ROM, but it looks like not much success here.
From other side, you can buy 32GB version of I9505 and don't think about 16GB-only I9505G.
But hey, there are SHV-E330 and GT-I9506 already

You mean Holo I believe. That's why I use stock Android. TW with its different colors, big buttons that are not even separated from others and mixed styles in applications is really crazy and a pain to use. For people that like to use a phone without distractions it's a plain and simple fail.
Nice to have options as we're all not the same, you keep your TW phone, I will keep my stock Android one.

Yeah.. It looks like your are really serious talking about replace TW features by 3rd party apps
Which app can replace lockscreen? None. It's impossible by android design. Only can mask some app as lockscreen which is completely different.
Having quick settings panel in on-going notification area? Phh..
If you think, it's not serious, then hold on and think first. May be other person, who is talking about this, knows something you don't know.

You're considering rooting a device to freeze/remove system applications. I was talking about simply adding applications to a stock Android from Google Play. I fail to see the former being easier.
And here the "impossible":
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.widgetlocker&hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.notificationToggle&hl=en
In any case what you might consider essential I might consider a waste of resources.
That was the point of my post. That's why Android is a success.
And if you don't like to read people talking about changing non-Google devices you might be better off XDA.
XDA Developers was founded for developers by developers. It is now a valuable resource for people who want to make the most of their mobile devices, from customizing the look and feel to adding new functionality.

If you are able to create custom ROM then removing unneeded apps (and even editing framework to cleanup from some useless features) is much easier than add absent functionality.
I suppose, we are on XDA, i.e. developer's forum right? If you are talking from regular user point of view who usually don't know what is "root", then it's out of scope of this board. Just buy Nexus device and then you are set.

I've told you already: there is no way to truly replace lockscreen by any other application. Lockscreen is a part of framework, not APK. I'm using android devices not the first year, and believe me, i've tried these apps long long time ago. These apps mimic lockscreen using some security holes in OS, but they are not replacing lockscreen. Actually, device remains unlocked all the time. Also there are many bugs and glitches because such apps trying to suppress original lockscreen with different kinds of success/fail.
As for modifying device: there are many ways to modify and it's not exactly by installing CM/AOSP. You can check my topics to see that i'm not just user.
XDA has been created long time before CM/AOSP and believe me there are many other good ways to modify the device. CM/AOSP have their own dedicated forums and repositories which should suit your needs better than XDA (if you want to compete in pointing directions to others).
P.S.: look into I9505G forum to see how users begging to add samsung's standard camera app which doesn't work on non-TW ROM.
Suggest them to install some app from Google play
The same can tell about video player and amount of video and audio codecs integrated into TW ROM. On TW ROM i can use nearly any music player and able to playback almost any audio and video. On GE ROM you have to find special audio player having support of some specific format, and then try to get used to its bugs without choice to switch to another player. With video player it's even worse...
Also, CM/AOSP usually don't have tight integration when it comes to Hardware 3D acceleration. Some selected devices (usually Nexus and GE devices) have good 3D support, but only some.
The truth is: Some people wanna to install CM/AOSP and then they realize they miss many useful (usually not noticeable when it presents) features. That's why custom TW ROMs are present and have a lot or users.

I never denied that TW based ROMs have value for some people, just that as well stock Android is much more attractive for others. If not we wouldn't be discussing this and you wouldn't see the kind of activity we see in this forum.
And I still disagree on the "easier" issue but I fail to see any benefit in continuing the discussion.

Why would you need to ? You have CM/TW/GE to choose from when using the i9505 partition layout. Took us a couple of hours to get KitKat after the GE got it (broodplank delivered AOSP 4.4 even earlier).

[REQUEST] Status bar port from Lollipop to Kitkat

Hey guys. So the thing is I would like to see some sort of port of status bar icons from stock LG Lollipop to Kitkat. The ones on Kitkat just suck and I tried many modules, none of them are good enough, some aren't properly aligned, some make the phone lag (FSBI).
The thing is I used to have S3 and it would get all sort of status bar ports from GS4, GS5 and etc. and I would like to see the same for LG G2. I hate alarm icon especially and want to change it but can't find a proper alternative.
If it's possible, can anyone do that? If not, maybe teach me how to do it , at least kinda change that alarm icon myself? I tried googling but couldn't find any good guides for that, so.
hey i remember you from the s3 forum mate! unfortunately there really aren't much ports of these sorts for the g2, only some mods like iOS icons and aosp icons...why haven't you updated to LP yet by the way?what rom are you using?

Hey, nice to see you !
Btw yeah, that's what I'm talking about , all of them are mostly iOS-like. As for stock LP, I'm not using it because of that animation when going in to recents from an app, it looks bad, also performance isn't really that great, especially after long use. I prefer CM12 over stock LP so...
As for now I'm kinda sticking with stock Kitkat. It's the most 'complete' ROM as for me.
