Verizon phone antennas. - General Questions and Answers

My Verizon upgrade is due in February and though I love my galaxy nexus the reception is terrible constantly in 3g. I had an s3 for about 6 months always had 4g but just missed my nexus to much and switched back despite the constant data drops..
Which phones on Verizon have the best/descent/worst antenna?

[Q] Nexus S from Captivate

I'm looking at getting a T-mobile Nexus S. I have ATT and plan to keep this service. Do the benefits ogre this phone exceed my loss of 3G?

you are crazy if you give up 3g and go back to edge on any of these android phones. they are data monsters which thrive on 3g. kinda stinks without it. plus on edge you may miss calls alot if data transfer is in process.
the ATT nexus s version is coming out in a few weeks, so there is no reason to not wait for that version and buy it for ATT.

I would wait for the att version. EDGE sucks.

att or verizon

soi switched to verizon four months ago because att service has gotten crappy. now i ordered my verizon s3 and find out that the bootload is locked.... should i switch back to att or stay on verizon? what would yall do?
Is it worth an etf?
i'm on at&t and i'm pleased with my service. i don't live in a major city and i consistently get 6-8mbps down and 1-1.5mbps up. for normal browsing it is more than adequate. no issues with call quality.
i'm also pleased with my phone. with my current configuration (see sig) i'm getting 5000-5100 in quadrant. benchmarks aren't a perfect indicator of how good the phone is, but the number is still impressive.
go back to AT&T
AT&T LTE is faster and Verizon new Share Data isn't all that. Too little data for so much money. AT&T!
We only have 3g where I live for at&t and lte on Verizon. I would keep my Verizon line for home Wi-Fi.

Go to ATT!

Att is faster and eventually get to the point where verizon is at with lte locations.

At&t is very good to us, and the service here is amazing. Then again, Baltimore being so close to D.C. is probably the reason. LTE has been deployed here for awhile and the speeds are insane. We've always had issues with Verizon at my house

Just afraid that I'll start having all those dropped calls again, I don't have any with Verizon

I have the att version I got 24.8mbps dl and 8 ul. No dropped calls either. Pretty amazing device so far

I always prefer gsm carriers to cdma ones. It feels weird having a phone that you cannot use if you travel abroad, especially europe where most carriets are gsm.
do you want locked bootloaders or better coverage?
Wonder if the locked bootloader is going to be a trend for Verizon?

Every lock have a key, I'm moving from ATT to Verizon (700$ etf) just because of the dropped calls. Can't stand it any more.

Experience with tmobile prepaid?

Thinking about switching after my contract is over at the end of the year...
I love T-Mobile in my area, I get about 14mbps data speeds. I've been with them a year and have never dropped a call.

Are the radios better then the nexus 4?

Are the radios better then the nexus 4. My service was alwaysnup and down with the N4, and wouldn't have service places I used to. Hope they didn't go cheap on this end. It is still a phone.

Well. I guess I can wait until Monday. Lol. Also. Ups delivers commercial early. Drives by about 10am. I work 2-10. Can 2nd day air go with commercial? Had em drop off early once or twice

Lol. I'm kinda concerned. N4 sucked. But guess I will wait until tomorrow and quit talking to myself. Ha

Lol people with the n5 is probably too busy playing with their new device
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yeah. I agree. But when I'm at work and don't get service because crap radios.I won't be playing with it too much

My Signal strength is better than with n4.
Don't have mine yet, but have a feeling it will be better!
Well that's the thing about radios sometime it may work better for someone else and sometimes it doesn't

To answer my own question, the Nexus 5 is getting way better service than my Nexus 4. On wifi and on tmobile
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I actually had worse cellular radio performance out of my Nexus 5 compared to my Nexus 4 while using it yesterday. Inside my office, I'm pretty sure I was averaging fewer bars, and the N5 couldn't decide if it was going to connect to 2G, HSPA+, or LTE. Outside, it flipped between HSPA+ and LTE as I moved around (mostly driving, but a few times even walking around a parking lot).
So, I'm not sure if it's my particular N5, or N5s in general, but so far I'm not impressed with its cellular performance relative to my N4.
I'm getting better performance so far, which I'm glad about as I also had a pretty bad time with the Nexus 4 over other phones. The 5 isn't amazing, but it's alright and acceptable to me.
I'm getting generally worse reception, especially inside at work. Before with my N4 I got perfectly acceptable reception where I sat. Now with the N5 I literally get nothing.. nothing at all. It won't even give me a smidgen of reception. I have to walk towards the front of our building to get anything.
Anyone else experiencing something similar?
*edit*
So in a completely random way I turned data roaming on and off just for ****s and giggles and within 5 seconds of turning it off I all of a sudden had a full HSPA signal. ????? It appears to work flawlessly now.
My signal on the n4 jumped all over the place. It holds still full and I don't lose service now in a town I drive through. I get WiFi outside my house that can stream video when my n4 couldn't at all.

I have better dbm signal strength on the N5 (comparing to my GS4) in pretty much all locations I've been to so far.
I'm getting better reception than my note 2 it seems. Very happy so far.

Overall, this seems to be the case for me as well. And I'm comparing for reception underground (basement level) where I work.
It's better then the Nexus 4, but I'm using it on CDMA and it's CDMA reception is less then the HTC EVO 4G by 1 bar.

Poor signal

I've had the galaxy note 2 and iPhone 5 in the same place I am living at right now. But when I got the Nexus 5, I barely ever get LTE signal. Instead I get like one or two bars of the 3g... Why is it so bad?

Yeah google, to save costs, used a weaker antenna.
