Stock clock/alarm app, alarm notification icon keeps disappearing. - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just starting noticing that my alarm notification icon randomly appears and dissappear even though I have an active alarm set. Haven't flashed anything lately and previously the icon was always there until the weekend when I don't have it set.
Anyone else happen to notice this?

Yeah it happens to me all the time. I'm running CM11 on my Nexus 5. I've been digging, trying to figure it out, but nothing yet.

I've seen this happen at least since ICS on the Gnex

any of you happen to use the Carbon twitter app? I have a hunch this app is causing the icon disappearing issue.
I've temporarily uninstalled carbon to test my theory.
Carbon recently updated their app and it does some 'hiding' of notification bar icons when it goes full screen. Might be related - or might be nothing at all.
For me, the disappearing alarm icon only started in the past 2 days or so.

No carbon twitter app for me but I did recently install the Timely app, wonder if that has anything to do with this or just a coincidence.

uninstalling carbon wasn't the root-cause; alarm icon disappeared again.
i did install timely within the past week ... i've since un-installed and still get the disappearing alarm icon.

Same here. Timely. I was thinking it might have to do with Timely's syncing, but that's completely untested.

When u uninstall timely do u still have the disappearing alarm icon via the stock clock app? I can't figure this out.

I found a post on reddit that talked about the Timely app ... and that if you uninstall Timely but still had an active alarm, it will cause issues with the alarm icon with the stock app. So I re-installed Timely ... and sure enough, I had an alarm still 'active'. I deleted that alarm and uninstalled Timely - but still have the issues with the stock alarm icon disappearing.
There's a thread going in the google product forums on this same issue: http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/nexus/oWxThT1ZPd0/IkdLlmB110IJ
Seems no one can figure out the root cause / fix.

Even I get this issue. In my previous phone too (having JB 4.1), this used to happen with default alarm as well as alarm clock plus.
Now I have cataclysm in my Nexus 5 and using Timely. Same happens here too.

I noticed this when I had Timely installed and even when I turned to alarm in it off it still made it disappear. I would suggest if you have any time or other app as such remove them and see if the issue continues.
I uninstalled Timely and it works as it should now.
Hope it helps.

I had this exact same problem with Timely installed. I uninstalled Timely and my alarm clock notification no longer disappears and reappears.
I hope this works for you.

I have the same problem (stock, un-rooted Nexus 5). What I've seen too is that it only disappears if I'm connected to WiFi. If I'm connected to T-Mobile's network, then the alarm notification displays just fine. But shortly after it connects to a WiFi network, the icon disappears.

In some of the Google support forums, a guy with the issue root-caused it back to the latest version of the Pandora App. Seems that ever since Pandora added alarm clock / wake-up functionality, it conflicts with the stock alarm icon.
I uninstalled Pandora a few days ago ... and my alarm icon is back to behaving normally.

i have the same issue with the icon... i do have timely... but it doesnt conflict with the app actually working... my alarms always go off even tho icon is not visible

i have no timely and no pandora but my alarm icon disappears anyway.. maybe xposed wanam makes some trouble with it cuz I modified all the colors of the statusbar icons? hmm... did somebody get another solution in the meantime?

My alarm icons only appear exactly two hours before the alarm is set to go off.

Alarm silent when on Silent/Vibrate profile

Hello, i have my nexus 5 for 2 weeks now and I noticed a problem my friend with a N5 doesn't have.(or anyone else) At night, right before I sleep i put my phone on silent so i dont get awakened by calls or anything else . But if i set it on silent the alarm volume gets on silent as well.
Seriously, i didn't have this problem on any other device and everyone sets his phone on silent for obvious reason. I had android 4.2.2 on my older device and even there you could tick "Alarm on silent".
What's causing this bug?
Stock Android 4.4.2
Edit: this is a basic feature every phone has, please dont suggest me getting 3rd party alarms from the google play store, thanks.
Try checking the alarm volume in settings and see if it changes when you put the phone in silent/vibrate.
It shouldn't.
Yes, when i put it on vibrate/silent i cant even scroll the alarm's volume in settings , it goes straight to no volume.
There's a post with users complaining about the exact opposite. They want to know why the phone isn't 100% silent when in silent mode. This would contradict what's happening to you.

Ok, what can i do to repair this bug?
I just tested this on my Nexus 5, and I can confirm that this is NOT happening on mine. Setting the phone to vibrate or even silent has no effect on my alarm setting whatsoever. (See the attached image. Note the vibrate icon in the notification bar.)
Do you possibly have a third-party alarm or other sound-controlling app installed? You say your phone is stock, but do you have anything such as Xposed, that can affect system settings?
I know it's probably the last thing you want to do, but you might try doing a hard-reset, and seeing if the conditions persist BEFORE installing any 3rd party apps. If it's working normally at that point, then keep checking it as you reinstall your apps to see if you can narrow down the culprit. If it DOES persist with a freshly wiped device, then you may want to call Google support, as that would be considered a defect.
Oh! Also, make sure you're on the latest build (KOT49H). If you're on an earlier build for some reason, it could be why your device is acting differently than everyone else's.

Hard restted once with the apps being restored and it was the same, then i hard resetted the last time without signing in my google account and everything works fine now, thanks!
did you ever find out which app caused this? i have the same problem
it might be a late answer, but it may help anyone who happens to find this post with this issue (as i did)...
I was having the exact same problem with my alarm, but I noticed that it happened after installing "Alarmy (Sleep if you can)" app from play store. It somehow overrides system volumes, and locks it after uninstall.
I reinstalled it and set the alarm volume from inside that app, and now it works as expected to do (silient ringer with alarm on).
This might happen with other Alarm apps, remember if you did install any.
Hopefully it helps someone, as this happened even on 4.4.4

I have figured out that problem happened after installing "Xtreme alarm clock."
And I solved this problem with "Alarmy(Sleep If U Can)."
Thanks for your information.

Home screen widgets freezing?

I noticed that when my phone drops down to critical i.e. 10% battery, the widgets on my home screens stop updating. Perhaps this is by design in an effort to save battery, but my problem is that even after I fully charge my phone the widgets remain frozen. I'm not running any special widgets, just a basic clock, calendar, a few toggles and battery monitor, but they all freeze just the same . . . I end up having to reboot my phone in order to get the widgets working again, which can be a pain and seems completely unnecessary.
Does anybody else have this kind of trouble? Could my completely stock/non-rooted device be experiencing issues? This is the only problem I've noticed so far with my S5 - everything else works exactly as it should.
Just a quick update: I did a factory reset and that didn't make any difference - two days later and all my home screen widgets freeze and don't start updating until I reboot the phone. List of widgets I'm using:
Fancy Widget
Switch Pro
Android Pro Widgets
BattStatt Pro
These are all widgets I've used for years without any issue, which makes me think that it involves KitKat.
Any suggestions?
I use fancy widget but haven't experienced any problems with it. Have u checked the refresh rate setting? When I put it on this phone and set it back up the refresh rate was set to refresh like every 6 hours

Thanks for the reply - no that is not it, because it affects all of my widgets and not just fancy widgets. Something odd I've noticed is that even after fancy widgets and the rest all freeze, the stock 'weather' widget still works! I've been reading a lot trying to get to the bottom of this issue, and someone on another forum mentioned the following:
"this issue occurs because kitkat has changed the way it manages background alarms. most widgets that update frequently use "alarmmanager" to trigger each update. but in kitkat, the trigger event is intentionally delayed so that android can group processes together, saving battery life and data use. so, for all those clock and weather widgets, the developers have to write a bunch of new code for kitkat devices, so that their widgets update at the intended time."
After reading this, I decided to test a theory and set my alarm to go off 2 minutes later. The alarm went off, and sure enough I checked 5 minutes later and all widgets were frozen . . . So now I'm wondering if it has something to do with the 'Timely alarm clock' app that I'm using... Going to go back to stock Alarm clock and see if that makes a difference.
Just an update for anyone interested: I found other XDA users on Verizon that were having this same issue, and someone suggested that we try installing Nova launcher. Sure enough, after installing Nova two weeks ago and I haven't had one issue with my homescreen widgets freezing.
I highly recommend Nova, especially if you're experiencing some odd quirks with TW.

Alarm doesn't ring in Marshmallow

It's been a long time since I've been facing this issue but it has become increasingly frequent now. The alarms I set do not ring (possibly because of doze). Using the stock alarm app. Removed it from battery optimizations. Using powernap xposed module but switched it off and still didnt make any difference. I have tried all there is to try so far but am still facing the issue. Any ideas?

Same here.
I am not even using the stock app, but Alarm Clock Plus, which is also in the "not optimized" list.
It happened 3 or 4 times, and now I always open and check the alarm app before going to sleep, just in case it's not loaded or something. I don't know if it really helps, or it's just a coincidence, but it has been working OK for the past month.

Has happened here twice. Had to reboot to fix it. My worry is that this could happen during the night so that the phone won't wake me up in the morning (the alarms don't sound either - in fact no sound at all can be played, be it from ringer, notifications, Spotify or YouTube).
Hasn't occurred now for three days, but I've rebooted each day due to separate issue which involves not notifications not being received unless I open the app (happens in Facebook Messenger and Signal).

Was able to find out the cause... Was the hike app intefering with system sounds.
Once notifications start coming up without sound, clear away the hike app from recents.. should fix the issue... Atleast it did for me
I'm noticing the exact same issue. Sitting here WATCHING my phone ring and making no sound. What exactly is the "hike" app? Is that something you've installed or is it a native app? I don't think I have that on my phone so I'm looking for a solution.

Its a third party app like WhatsApp... I'm certain the issue you are facing is due to a third party app... Next time the sound stops, try clearing your recent apps... And see if that fixes the issue ...

It could as well be another third party app... Doesn't necessarily have to be hike..... Try and see if clearing your recent apps fixes the issue for you
What does clearing mean? Like delete my apps?

I am also running into this issue. Im still in the process of uninstalling apps one by one to narrow it down if it is an app thats causing it. Has anyone pin pointed what is causing this? Im almost ready to factory reset the phone and add the apps back one by one but I would rather not spend the time.

I had that same issue with certain apps. For me though, I didn't realize the extent of Data Saver and had to allow Gmail and whatnot to have unrestricted access and then they started popping in right away.
You wouldn't happen to use Data Saver on your phone?
Just a thought
Cheers!
I appear to have this issue however, safe mode, factory resetting, etc does not fix it. I do not get notification/phone/music sounds.
This issue is still there even after the 8.1 update... Anyone got it fixed?
For me the notifications won't make any sounds, they pop up but silently. I tried playing some music and the speaker works, I also didn't have any issue with alarms. Just notifications.

I have a Nexus 6P and my wife has a Pixel XL and we were both having the same issue with 8.1, no notification sound with text messages and call ring tone. I did most of the suggestions that I have found online (factory reset, clear cache/data in messaging app, change sound) but none of them worked. I was about to downgrade to 8.0 but I saw that both of the apps (messages and phone) were being "optimized". I disabled battery optimization on messages and phone, rebooted and so far it seems to have fixed it. My only guess is that they optimized those apps a little too much. Good luck.

I also noticed the issue on v8.1 that I flashed a few days ago. Thought it would have been fixed by now. Ended up downgrading to v7.1.2 again to fix the issue.
Oreo is NOT ready for prime time in my opinion.

Alarm issues on Nokia 2.1 running oreo go 8.1.

Wow I can't believe I have spent so much time on this simple issue which even old phones were able to do flawlessly.
Brand new Nokia 2.1 running oreo go 8.1. Alarms would suddenly disappear from the lock screen or the top notification bar and then won't go off on the time specified.
Apparently a lot of people are facing this issue as it turns out by google search and I have tried the latest version of the google clock and another 3rd party alarm clock and it happens to both. Contacted support and they ask to clear cache and do things like a soft reset neither of which work at all.
I'm lost for solution as I can't get my alarms to keep running in the background until I open my clock app every now and then again and reset the alarm.
It happens to any other app that can run in the background 'auto silence scheduler' app the notification disappears and the app fails to start the scheduled silent time.
Seems like oreo is force closing apps that are running in the background when the phone is put to sleep for a while. Then those apps wont start until they are manually started.
Alarms is the worst because if it will happen during the night and I won't wake up at the time in the morning.
Exact same issue with my Nokia 2.1, Alarm's are a hit or miss scenario these days.
