No Phone App? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I just recently flashed 4.4 custom CM 11 ROM with a clean install, followed the instructions by updating the firmware, then flashing the ROM and GAPPS, then setting up the phone, then returning to recovery to flash the Kanged apps. There is no Phone app, though when I say "Ok, Google" and tell it to call a contact, it works, and asks what app to use by default (Phone, Skype). When the call began, no app opened, it was my home screen, though the call went through.
Is this a problem with the Kanged apps or what's up?
Edit: I just wiped cache and dalvik cache, re-flashed the PA Gapps [not the Kanged] and still no phone app. Can someone link me to the GApps they used that worked well? Maybe its just a faulty DL.

So wipe cache and dalvik cache, then flash PA Gapps, then try the Kanged again? Okay ^^ Thanks.

Give me the link where you download the cm11, I will take a look.
Also go into /systen/app and check to see if you have the phone app.

Click ROM Downloads, Using the 12/25/2013 (uploaded the 26th) one, as it was said to be the most stable. If you know of a more stable release (I'm looking for working bluetooth and gps, messages and phone) let me know. I'll edit this after checking the system folder.
Edit: Under system/app/ there is a "TelephonyProvider.apk" that has the same picture the Phone App would have. Trying to open it prompts me with installing an update, titled "Phone/Messaging Storage". Attempting to install it gives no results, and just says it wasn't installed.

Ok, downloading the stuff now. While it downloads, where is the option to wipe system in CWM Touch? Its probably in a pretty obvious place and I just overlooked it, I haven't clean flashed a rom since my second one, the rest were just updates to CM. I'll post back when the process is done. Thanks for all the help so far!

Yeah, it had been stuck and I actually failed to wipe system the first time. Did it this time around, and its booted up, with a phone app! The question I have for you now: Is flashing the "Kanged" apps worth it? What does it add? What does it break? I've seen some posts claiming it breaks things, I've seen others saying it works fine. What's your experience with it? Other than that, thanks a ton! Can't wait to get this buddy settled in!

The Kanged gapp is fine, but the newer version, for some reasons it's not working well with some of the app. The one I gave you is pretty much ok with most of the rom. At the end they should be all the same function and the question is which one will work with most of the rom. There is no advantage from one to the others.

Yeah haha, that tends to be how CM is. Its been like that since my OG Droid days haha.
Quick question; do you know how to change what the icons on the lock screen redirect too? For example, making the music icon open Google Play Music, not Apollo, or the messages icon opening Hangouts, not Messages.

OK, I'm not on the rom that you're using, but if I remember correctly, it should be in settings->security-> slider targets and shortcuts -> enable the Eight slider targets then tab on slider targets, you will see the lock on your screen, hold down on the lock and slide to any position on the circle, an app menu should popup, here you can select what app you want to launch for the position. Repeat the same for other positions. You have up to 7 apps to launch from the lock screen, the last one is to unlock.

[Q] About to throw this XOOM into the wall

Hi there,
I have a UK WiFI xoom, and everything was working fine. I installed the ICS AOSP rom, and no issues.
The problem started when I updated the AOSP ICS rom, and the gapps, Now I DONT HAVE MARKET access. The loading circle just goes round and round till it says 'connection timed out - retry'. The GTALK doesnt connect either, it just says 'signing in' till it goes 'offline'.
Right now, I am on the EOS Wifi ICS rom.
Here's what I HAVE done so far to fix it based on ideas in this forum and others (trust me, I search before I post:
- Factory reset, wipe cache, dalvik before every rom install
- Installed every single ICS rom there is, with the recommended google apps
- wiped data on the google services framework
- Installed different version of gapps
- Shut down the firewall on the HOME NETWORK.
It just doesnt work anymore. It used to connect fine to the home Wifi earlier but something just went wrong somewhere and i cant track it down.
Any help would be appreciated.
you have any more info like does your xoom show you are connected to your wifi? do you have any other wireless devices and are they accessing the internet fine? are you flashing the right gapps package?
yea, Wifi is connected fine. Alternate markets like 'slideme', and browser, gmail, maps app etc work fine without problems.
I have flashed the latest gapps package as recommended by EOS rom makers (v. 10 i believe)

First, take a deep breath. It's probably something small that's causing the problem, no doubt.
Some of the EOS Nightly are more stable than others. I would recommend wingray nightly build #56 (very smooth and stable) with the 10.4 GAPPS flashed immediately afterward. First wipe cache partitions, then dalvik cache (in advanced) then flash the rom and the GAPPS, then reboot. This should work very well for you. If you feel the need to do another data wipe, do that before anything else.
IMHO, no need to flash stock images 1st. Just flash on top of your current rom.
Good luck!
ok- will try and respond with results. thanks for the patience/

Hi - I did the steps exactly as you said (with a full data wipe). Still getting nowhere?
Any more ideas?
Go back to stock US recovery ROM. Start again.
Also no idea how to fix it (as nothing previously worked), but the symptoms seem similar to when you haven't accepted the agreement that pops up on new google framework (?) version. Won't let you use market or gtalk.. has happened to me before.
Before flashing, try an extra wipe: wipe system (in some recoveries also called "format system" ). I have been saved by this more than once.

I always wipe dalvick and cache partition. Install ROM from SD card, followed by latest Gapps and then use the fix permissions in advanced settings before rebooting. I have never had a single problem and have been using EOS Wingray nightly since release 11. I am sure the fix permissions is the key to this. No need to do a full wipe if you are on the same ROM!

You can only go back to 3.0 or whatever it is. t will update to 3.2, and then hopefully ICS.
On tablet, so can't quickly find original motorola dev website - try Googling. Here is link to post with hosted firmwares anyway..

Have you tried accessing the market through the browser? You will need to sign in...that may reestablish your link. I can't see why you need to go back to stock Honeycomb. It gets complicated getting cwm recovery back on (to stick).
I had a similar issue on my DHD. It turned out that your language needs to be US English.
Hope this helps

You don't need to bump your post every hour because you haven't gotten an answer yet. Not everyone is on at the same time.
Far as a solution:
First, have you cleared the cache and data for the market app and you still get the same error?
Are you running a ROM - If so, did you dirty flash(just wipe cache and flash the zip) or did you do a full wipe?(factory reset + Davlik cache)
If not running a ROM try to clear your cache anyways via CWM or TWRP see if that helps.

I did everything except clear cache for market. How do i do that?
Go to 'Manage Apps' in settings then click the market. There you'll see four options; force stop, uninstall, clear data, clear cache. Clear the data and the cache. This will make you agree to the TOS again but may solve your problem.

try reinstalling rom and rewiping everything again?
Do you have a directory called "LOST.DIR" on your sdcard that's ridiculously big? If you do, you can delete it - it's essentially the 'Recycle Bin' of Linux.
Also, try removing ALL your google accounts from the phone then clearing the market cache like mentioned above and then add your google accounts back. This is a fix for a different market problem but may work on this one as well.

I unfroze/froze it several times before I uninstalled it. Every time I froze it and boted up I was unable to anything in the home screen for nearly a minute... nothing when I tap an icon... nothing except the volume control and I was able to open the notification screen.
I also found that if I tap the hard 'Back' button when I first go to my Home screen this everything works ok.
I wonder if I can download the app form the internet. Problem is a search brings up "Pico" instead of "Pica".

[Q] GSF ID Key

So I have the issue where after installing a new rom, i am missing the google service framework or gsf id key. with this missing i am unable to connect to the play store. so i would like to know if anyone knows where that key is stored so that i might manually add it in from my previous working rom install. not sure why it does not get generated after going through the install. only time it works is if i odin back to a stock rom, go through and reroot and unlock it and then flash a new rom. shouldn't have to odin stock to get this to work. i have tried literally everything. so if anyone knows where that key is stored after it is generated that would be helpful. thanks.

Ah, now I see said the blind man, so you lose the ID every time you flash the ID. How about try the old Gapp, if I remembered correctly it will ask if you would like to replace the old ID with the new one and you have the option to pick the new one or keep the old one.

yes. i odin to stock, reroot, unlock, custom recovery. make sure play store works. then i reboot recovery and flash new rom. now if i want to change roms again, i should be able to just wipe data, cach and dalvik and flash the new rom and everything should work. but after going through setup and putting in my account stuff. which goes exactly as it should, i cannot use the play store because my phone has no gsf id key. so the only way i have to found to fix is go back to staock and start over.

so the only full pa gapps package that would install was 4.3 from 11-2-13. the others are for 4.4 roms only. and the one for 4.3 didn't change anything.

been there, done that.
I realize this is an old thread but I found it in a search and it doesn't mention what I found out which is my unrooted phone easily changed the GSF ID without flashing anything.
I put the steps here so that we could then move to the next step in learning how to change the GSFID at will.

OnePlus One Random App Crash

Hello to everyone,
so I have this problem.
After a Lineage update, the apps on my phone started to crash repeatedly in a random way (system and installed apps).
I made a clean wipe, I erased everything for a new OS, I tried multiple OS (slim, lineage, oxygen), I update the recovery, I tried older recoveries, I tried everything.
But nothing works & I have no ideas about it. (maybe one filesystem is corrupted?)
I'm really asking for help.
If you need more info just let me know.
thanks
Flavio

Hey
I did it, nothing to do. Same problem.
In this case when I booted for the first time the phone the clock crashed.
In the other case when I install the gapps, well... after that, the panic.

Can you elaborate the list of what gets crashed on boot after flashing cos13? From what I can understand,if it is just the clock app, then there's nothing much to worry about, you can just try clearing data of the app or use another clock app.

No,I'm talking about when you boot.I don't think rom contains apps like fb,instagram and Twitter by default.

No, there aren't app crashing when I boot in this moment. But they started to crash immediatly after and it could be the launcher or instagram
ah and sometimes the phone reboot itself
