Google email app proble: cannot sign in and doubled inbox emails. Not Gmail app - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am referring to the email app where you can sync several accounts. The problem is that when sending and receiving emails, for more than one time it says it could not sign in and then I receive repeated emails in my inbox.
The doubled emails are common and very annoying. I get them after I reply (I receive the exact same email I received just before replying).
The cannot sync issue appears when I am sending and receiving more than one email back and forth with someone.
Does anyone know what is happening?

May have something to do with the EMail server you are trying to connect to. I have 4 accounts (exchange, outlook, pop3) working using the Email app without issues (so far)

All the synchronised accounts are Gmail accounts. I do not know why is this happening

Any reason why you aren't using the Gmail app instead? Works beautifully!

How is the Gmail account set up in your Email app? POP3? IMAP?
I've never used the Gmail accounts on the Email app, so unsure about any common issues. Hopefully others will chime in.

You can switch accounts in the Gmail app, I have two working fine. I only use the stock Android email app for my domain email (POP3)

did not know that, thanks for pointing that out.
but i would like to get the google email app working as i really like it.

Another question. When you receive an email with a link, is it possible for you to open it by just clicking on it?
My links are only recognised as text. From memory I think all links were click able but I can be mistaken.

Desire Email widget and Gmail

Finally figured out how to get the Desire email widget to work with Gmail.
Don't know if this was already posted.
Basically, create a new Exchange IMAP account using your gmail account.

even tho i dont use desire builds right now, that is an awesome find!
Could you give more details on how to set that up?
thanks
I did it last night by doing a search, so I'm a little fuzzy still.
But here us done if the info:
You go to the email app, and add excgange account.
Select IMAP
Server address is m.Google.com
Domain is Google
Select SSL security
Search for the correct in and outgoing ports.
I will look later, and get back.

Push E-Mail

Hello,
This is my first Android phone after using the iPhone. I added all my Gmail accounts to the email app from Samsung, and I'm still not getting push email. It's set at IMAP and everything. Do I need to set it up as an exchange account?
Thanks.
you need to use the gmail app for gmail to push as far as i know If you only use Gmail, you can remove the email app from that bottom dock by going to the applications screen and hitting menu there is a setting to arrange via grid and then rearrange apps and you can drag the gmail app down there and remove the email app

Thanks for the quick reply. That slightly is disappointing since the Samsung email app has an universal inbox where as the Gmail email app doesn't. Is there an app that would help with this issue if I were to root the phone?
I apologize in advanced if I sound stupid or don't make any sense. I'm still checking up with all the Android lingo
How would I go about adding a non gmail and a non exchange account? Would the Gmail app support that? Or would I have to use the Samsung email app for that?
Thanks.

The Gmail app only supports gmail accounts I believe. You either have to use the Samsung email app or forward your emails from your other accounts to gmail.
Another suggestion is to use K-9 Mail. I have my Gmail, AOL, and Hotmail accounts added to the K-9 Mail and Gmail and AOL both give me push emails and I have Hotmail set up for polling every hour.
K-9 seems to be the best alternative because I didn't want to forward all my emails to Gmail and the Samsung email app wasn't pushing my emails like I wanted.
If the samsung email app supports exchange active sync, you can use it to get gmail and it'll push. Gmail now fully supports active sync. I had my iphone set up that way and I got push emails from Gmail no problem.
The Google Gmail website shows you how to set up Gmail as if it were an exchange active sync account. Its really simple and worked great for me for over a year. I have the Captivate now and only use the Gmail app, but I only have one Gmail account, not multiple ones like the OP.

That's exactly what I'm looking. That works out perfect. Thanks again! And if I ever want to sync my contacts and calendar with Gmail, I can always turn off sync for mail but keep sync active for contacts and calendar.
Thanks again.

[Q] Advanced Gmail client?

Im looking for an advanced version of the gmail client. Paid or free, it doesnt matter.
I need the basic functionality currently on offer (just for gmail addresses really), but with more options. Landscape view like in touchwiz would be nice, as well as better attachment options, etc..
Pretty vague but you know what i mean
Why not just use the stock Samsung email client?
Regards,
Dave
that k-9 mail is meant to be good
maildroid looks promising to , one free and one expensive version..
Try Moxier... thumbs up from me. Only cost 20 bucks

Nonsense! I get push email from my GApps account using the stock client.
Hint: Use Exchange ActiveSync, which Gmail supports.

hi,
in stock email app, i will to add a account for my *****@gmail.com
later, in account options, is possible to specify the "scan new messages timeout" that
implies the email protocol is pop. imap don't poll for new messages.

First of all you are wrong in that IMAP doesn't poll - it can use poll at intervals if you wish. IMAP IDLE is a pseudo push, and that is what you are thinking of, but it is still a form of polling in essence.
However, all of this is immaterial!
In the stock email client, when you set up a new account you enter your email address and password. At this stage, you could click next and it would set up your Gmail account as IMAP. However, if you click Manual Setup, you get 3 options:
POP
IMAP
Exchange
Select Exchange account and then enter the follow:
Domain\Username : [email protected] (or [email protected] if you are using GApps for Domains)
Exchange Server : m.google.com (for both regular GMail and GApps for Domains email)
Press Next, and then you get the option to change the "Email Check Frequency", which by default should be "Automatic (Push)".
Job done! True push on stock email client.
Regards,
Dave
Wow, just wow. I didn't know about that exchange stuff. That's insane! Thanks!
hi,
i have configured my gmail account in order to send emails using another identities.
in gmail is possible to select the identity of the sender, but not in stock email app.
it's correct or i'm wrong
Thanks for the info, I just set this up on my tab and I can use the account to send mail but it seems like it's not receiving; also when I click the sync button it says unable to connect to server. very strange.
Thanks. It work perfectly in my tab.

AWSOME!
just tested this on my tab i like the mail app a little bit better then the gmail IMO
so it seems I'm the only one getting this connection error when I attempt to setup gmail exchange on the samsumg email app =(
Has anyone tried this with more than one exchange server? When I try to add an exchange server, the exchange button is grayed out. I'm guessing it's because I already have a different exchange e-mail setup?
Edit: Interesting - I deleted my other exchange account and I'm getting the same "Unable to connect" to server error message everyone else is getting. I even changed the domain to Google (using some old knowledge I used to do something similar to this to sync my contacts with Google on my old Windows phone devices: http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=138636).
Any ideas?
I had set up several gmail exchange accounts, and they all worked. However i think that app is memory hog, it's slow, with buggy notifications and in the end i switched back to the standard gmail one. Did you notice that there isn't really any alternative email client on the market?

Push Gmail on Stock android email client

Pretty much in the title. I have an exchange and google account i want to use the stock email client with, so i can cut down on the gmail app.
Exchange gets push, but the option for gmail is not there
Seems odd that the native android app does not support GOOGLE push?
Anyone got this working?
Failing that, can anyone recommend a stock like app that does do this?
Thanks

Cheers for reply but i think you misunderstood me.
What i am trying to do is use the stock android email client for both my exchange account and my gmail account.
I do not want to use the gmail app.
The stock android email client lets me push my exchange account, however there is no option for gmail, only set times such as 15 mins, 30 mins etc.

I haven't used the stock email app for some time, but IMAP needs to be enabled in your Gmail account. I cannot post links yet, but in your Gmail settings, click on the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab, and then under IMAP Access, click on "Configuration instructions" at the bottom. That will take you to a link where you can click on "Android".
OR you can have your Gmail account collect all your mail, then use the Gmail app on your phone. That's what I do.
Good luck!

would love to know if anyone has solutions to this now...
I did this a while ago on my Tab, but i can't remember 100% how i pulled it off, the following *should* work...
In Mail -> Add Account, put the email address and password, then go manual setup, select exchange, and add the details from here: (i know it's for iphone, just use the server settings etc)

Exchange (office365) does it work for anyone ?

I tried adding my work email but it doesn't work. It pulls the list of folders but it doesn't download any emails. Anyone got it to work with exchange ?
I am talking about default email app

I had no problem signing into my work account (via office365). I had to choose office365 as the account type (even though our servers are Exchange servers.) I first tried "Exchange account", but that didn't work. So I gave Office365 a try, and it worked like a charm. I'm using Outlook for Android as my client, BTW.
I was asking about default app
Does office365 or exchange works for anyone on anything other than using outlook app ? If yes please share which app you are using. I tried Mailwise and default email app and both just pull the list of folders but no mail.
I found it works with "nine" and "blue mail" so far. I guess I can live with that.
