I was messing around on my I535 and I hard bricked it some how. I can across a youtube thread that unbricks i535. I was running 4,2,1 at the time. I tried it and it works! I had a Jig and it did not even detect it at all.

That actually comes from this thread by nconfer13 (page 8 to be exact). Glad you found it through other means cuz its pretty hard to find info on debricking an S3 TBH.
Edit: that's nconfer's video actually

Tried this method and it did not work
I tried this method for fixing Hard Brick and it did not work. I had to send it out for Jtag service. cost $20, 1 week turn around . I used Ebay seller "jtag_recovery"
Related
So this is my second non-fixable brick, except the first time the device wouldn't turn on at all so I sent for a replacement. This time I just had the screen with the phone and computer. Tried every possible combination of fixes for getting into download mode and nothing worked so I ordered one from mobiletechvideos.com and it got here in just two days(not counting sunday) as I was hesitant to make one myself.
Anyways, I really should've followed the advice of others on here and got one(or made one) before I bricked my phone, it will save a lot of headache.
if something comes on the screen it is most certainly NOT a 'non-fixable' brick
dude...waste of moneys
dude, if u got anytings on da screen, its a fixabel brick. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=775911 this post helped me when i thought i bricked it, i didnt

You'll understand more when this post doesn't work for you.
I think I posted this in the wrong forum, I suppose I was a little confused on my phone
I have a US AT&T version of the i727 Skyrocket. I think i accidentally flashed an improper kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369977
I didn't realize I was browsing the wrong forum *sigh*.
Anyway, when I went to reboot after installing the kernel in CWM, I get a black screen. If I hold down both volume buttons and plug in USB, I get nothing. It doesn't seem to put it in download mode. There, it doesn't get recognized in ODIN.
What are my options here? Would a "jig" actually do anything in this case? I can't tell the scenarios it can actually recover from and not.
Hard brick, its done
Jtag or send to samsung

If it does absolutely nothing, i'd say you bricked it which is quite possible if you flashed something for another phone. I don't think a jig will do you any good, based on things i've read before. Not 100%. Maybe someone else will give you some better input.
thanks for the replies. I can't get it in to download mode at all, so I'm afraid it's hard bricked.
Are there any guides to doing the jtag repair yourself? I'm pretty tech-savvy and comfortable opening up the phone, etc. I could get my hands on a jtag unit.
I just don't want to keep bricking it and sending it out for another $50. I'd rather have a solution where I can fix it myself.

I'd hope not to, but on my first try I bricked it. I've never bricked my Nexus S after a ton of crappy kernels. Sigh...
Doesn't look like anyone has figured out a homebrew JTAG solution.

Well, jtag for this phone was just made possible only a month or two ago. There may be a guide somewhere, but I dunno. You flashed something from a completely different phone, any time you do that you are pretty much guaranteed a brick. Just pay attention to what you're doing, man. Read more and flash less.

Right, understandable. Lesson learned there.
I can't tell if this is legitimate or not:

$50 isn't too bad. Obviously doing it yourself, if you could, would be better. I'd be on the safe side though and have mobiletech (i'm assuming you know about them), do it.
Last few days were full of frustration for me I've searched every single website on Internet that could possibly describe me on what can be done to get our phones running after a Hard Brick that was caused by ICS leak. The pain even increases when I see that I've hardbricked without even doing anything that was not possible.
Though there are not exact explanation for our phone but I've seen people getting success for their devices.
I've no warranty so if this problem is not solved I'll probably have to throw my phone in dustbin. As now I don't have warranty I want to fix this phone on my own and I am ready to try every single things that is possible, so for that I need suggestions from all our devs in here.
I've seen people using JTEG and riff box methods to unbrick their phones. I am not familiar with these methods, I want people to explain me these things and what are the chances of unbricking our devices.
I saw this method used for old atrix will this work for us??

Hehe, same my idea. But the fast and possible way to recover our A2 again, just buy 2nd with ugly shape or even broken screen for very cheap price, then we can exchange its mainboard. Easy to do with. Then come back to the fighting road.
---------- Post added at 08:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:41 PM ----------
More info about JTAG method :
- Need the box that supports your phone. Sorry not any support for A2's CPU now in RIFF list.
- Need to know where the test points are in mainboard to connect with Box. We even don't know which EMI shield for A2's CPU
- Need to know the name of each test point is matched with Box to connect ok
- Hardware skills with opening phone, soldering and de-soldering EMI shields !
There are two or three revisions of Atrix 2 will all the motherboards will be compatible with our A2.
Kinda low resolution, but you can get an idea of what's under the emi shields from the FCC pictures.
For what it's worth, the IHDT56MV1 and IHDT56MV2 pictures appear identical.

I don't agree, ICS came up like a virus till it was inside it was good and running and when people tried to remove it, it left them deserted.
But it is the truth, prasannapmv ! Phone will be bricked when coming back to GB.

Yep exactly, and we started warning people after the first 2 people bricked... I have to say though that so far many people have not found any notable issues that would make them NEED to flash back to GB.
Back to the question of the OP. If you have a RIFF box the software will give you a diagram of where the jtag points are and what lead to attach to which point. The software will then retrieve the appropriate files and you simply click the "resurrect" button and it will restore the phone to a state that it can be reflashed. But you need to buy a RIFF box or simllar hardware solution in order to perform the jtag procedure.

There was no "virus" in the ICS rom. You flashed a "leaked" rom. By definition that means a rom Motorola never intended to be flashed by the general public and roms are not built to accommodate people modding the device or flashing roms repeatedly. By flashing a leaked rom you took an inherent risk of bricking your device. You flashed ICS and then decided for some reason to flash back to the previous rom. You killed the phone by your own actions. If you cannot accept the possibility of bricking your phone then you should not be flashing leaked roms. Devs and others warn people repeatedly that flashing roms can brick the device and you chose to go ahead with the knowledge that your own actions could result inn your phone being bricked. Don't blame Motorola for your own actions. They don't release these test roms to the public and don't support people modding the phone. Anything other than flashing officially released roms is a risk. If you flash leaked or custom roms then you must accept the risk that you might wind up with a dead phone as you have.

I can find a RIFF box everywhere (in Cellphone Service Shop) or even borrow it from my friend. But problem is, A2 not in supported list of RIFF or any JTAG's other brand box. No support = no file for flash + no test points + no diagram.

Price of Riff or JTAG box maybe equals 2-3 or 10 times more expensive than buying a new phone. I don't think your love for A2 is so big like that ...

Warning alarm was little late for me I tried to fxz back immediately after you uploaded a ICS FXZ zip a, I had to fxz because ICS leak didn't had MOTO phone portal, webtop hack was not working and the battery was worst in terms of performance

If there is no software/firmware yet, you could possibly work with some people who know what they are doing to develop the files and methods. We have most of the firmware for the A2 scattered around. I, for one, would have no idea where to begin or what to do, but this would be huge if the A2 became supported and could be resurrected..

I never said nothing can go wrong, just what I was alble to confirm worked for me. Again, sometimes ask for help before doing something so drastic, could have gotten you fixed up before ending up like this, that is what this place is for. I am not chastising you here, just saying that we are here to help and both the issues you had were both 100% fixable in the ICS leak.
Call me paranoid, but after reading the thread on Unbricking that got bumped a couple days ago, I'm a little afraid I might one day brick my device. Even though I take all the precautions, it looks like bad luck has set upon a handful of guys, and I feel like it might happen to us all one day. I'd feel at ease, after reading that thread, however I don't have a PC and I have virtually no way of getting my hands on one!! Is there no way to do this on a Mac? Is any dev working on this or able to point me to instructions in case this happens to me? I just want to be ready..
Kinda surprised I couldn't find any threads on this.
The only way you can brick this phone is if you stupidly flash a ROM not meant for this phone. Please know the difference between soft brick and hard brick. Also there isn't any proven method to un-brick a soft bricked S 3 for the MAC. The last time I checked the MAC is a PC made by Apple running its own OS just like an iPhone is a smartphone, an iPad is a tablet and an iPod is an MP3 player but that is an whole other story.
Best response you'll get is to try using Heimdall, if it's working for our phone, if you absolutely must use Mac. Not many people have been trying that from what I see and I doubt there will be any change either. Besides that, find someone with a Windows PC and fix any issue you have.
And I completely agree with jmxc23.

So as long as I don't flash a non VZ rom I should be good and shouldn't get a soft brick? I don't mind having to boot into recovery to fix something, but having to find a PC might cost me a day or two without a phone, and a big fight with my wife. It might be worth my money to invest in Parallels..

If you're a consistent flasher, at some point you will need to use Odin. Maybe not enough times to justify spending money to solve your problem, but you're going to have to borrow someone's PC or use windows eventually unless someone comes up with some Mac development
That sucks. If I reset the flash counter does that help prevent this at all?

Resetting the flash counter is utterly pointless until you need to exchange the phone via warranty. So, no it does not.

Are there any fix I can do at home, yet?
My one x has been bricked for months...
Or is J-Tag my only option?
Anyone know how much it costs total ?:/
I bricked my phone by installing this kernel...
My phone hadn't turned on since ; doesnt charge, nothing. Im really pretty sure I didint do anything wrong.
I remember seeing a post saying someone else got bricked with that kernel.
Ive tried this method : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1966850
Seems to detect my phone (windows make a sound when I plug it in via usb) but I dont think this fix works for my situation .
Cant risk it anymore,so Ive already decided to leave the modding world. Never again. I have NEVER bricked or even broken/lost a phone.
I really loved this one too. It sucks. Totally discouraged.
I tried searching around for recent related threads but its just hard and pointless going through all the replies with no answer,
They really should make it so that people can choose the best answer ,like in Tom's hardware.
Your only option is a jtag repair, that isn't like to change.
