SIM eject tool - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just curious, for those who remove their SIM card frequently (eg; frequent travellers, have multiple SIMs), do you carry your original Nexus 5 SIM ejector tool around with you?
Being an iPhone user for years, I never had to worry as I can find paperclips pretty easily and they do the job... but on the Nexus 5, the hole for the SIM eject tool is so tiny...

i have successfully used cheap toothpicks that you buy from a grocery store.

I used a paperclip at times but was afraid of it breaking some times so I carry a Sim tool ejector right behind my case its very thin and I don't notice any bulk on it

Toothpick? I thought toothpicks are usually thicker than paperclips?

The paperclips I have don't seem to fit...

I keep the tool from the N5 and the one from the Moto X on a keyring and keep them in a zipper pouch in which I also keep whatever phone I'm not using at the time, along with extra sim adapters. I swap between the two phones almost daily so I keep everything safe, handy, and in one spot.

I use the pin in my pocket knife. Seems to work fine, although you have to check them in when flying obviously.

A staple pin will work too.

SkyRocket Dock Charger?

Are their any Skyrocket Dock chargers out their? I have searched high and low and can not find any...
I found a universal one online the other day that would be perfect.
Here it is:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sinjimoru-Sync-and-Charge-Dock-Stand-Samsung-Galaxy-S2-S-ll-Color-Black-/220855903037#ht_500wt_1180
I bought the spare battery system from Amazon.
Part: ET-CGPK004GSTA
Came with a NFC-capable Samsung battery and stand, I put my phone in portrait with it plugged in and can use the AirDroid application to send messages.
looking too
Since they put the usb port on the bottom, I am guessing they want to expand to have speakers, alarm clocks and everything else you can dock these phones in. I am guessing that companies that make this stuff will take a while to get these products out. I'm tired of seeing every type of docking station for iPods.
Hopefully there are making this location standard on all the new phones so it could be more universal to fit most android phones.
If anyone finds anything I hope they will post to this thread!

This looks VERY interesting. I have a flexible skin on my SR, and I don't want to take it off to charge it.....for $5 and shipping this could be a good solution for someone with a thin protective cover.
Yeah, thanks for posting that nexendz. I started a similar thread here with some other options but have yet to find something right. Right now I'm using a business card holder with some foam stick on pads as a stand with the stock charger, although that costs about the same as that Zenis dock.

I, too, am using my old Infuse dock. It's a little big, but it charges fine and might be big enough to hold a SR with a thin case.

The diztronic TPU case works with it but is tight. The USB plug doesn't line up with it while the case is on, but it does fit into the dock with this case. I use this dock as well in my vehicle and I just take the case off when I do.

I use the Seido dock from seidoonline.com
" Innodock Jr. Desktop Cradle"
It seems to be universal and I worry a little about the connection on the bottom of the phone but it charges the phone and stands it up with any of the three cases I have used so far on my phone.
I started a threat here to see if anyone has tried using the T-Mobile Galaxy S2 dock for the Skyrocket. According to T-Mobile and AT&T, the phones dimensions are identically the same.
will that work with the SR?
That's what I am trying to find out

Ordered this one from a different seller; same price, arrived very fast. Works with naked handset but not with the included plastic insert nor with a diztronic TPU case. For $5 I don't mind roughing it up so will try to dremel out the sides and see if I can get a better fit to avoid removing the case every time.
EDIT: Don't mind url butchering, gg 10posts.
Let me know how the butchering goes....got ours in a few days ago and may do the same

Removed 3mm overall from the sides to fit case. Now fits the sides but didn't account for the back so it's a bit tight but I don't mind as it keeps it well seated. It is hollow behind the plastic so you will see the void behind it but since the phone will be in the stand it shouldn't matter, at least it's not white plastic painted black which would look worse.
Thanks!

Case with a mini-pocket for the SIM eject tool

I travel out of the country fairly often, and I'm not in the mood to rack up a fortune in roaming costs so I always swap SIMs once I arrive in the destination country. With my previous phones, this wasn't a hassle due to removable back covers allowing easy access to the SIM. However the N4 uses a SIM tray that must be ejected with a tool (or a similar thin object like a sewing needle) which is rather annoying. Worse still, the hole is rather narrow so if the tool isn't available, you can't use most paper clips like with the iPhone.
Thus, I'm looking for a good case that has a convenient slot/pocket for me to store the SIM eject tool. I've searched on Google, but I don't think I'm using the right keywords, because all I get are thick leather cases with slots to hold credit cards, and I find those ugly and overkill.
I currently use this case for my Nexus 4, and for the moment I just scotch taped my SIM eject tool to the back of my phone before putting the case on.
If possible I'd like a case that's similar to what I have just with some kind of unobtrusive outer pocket for my tool. Thanks!
Scotch tape method seems the best or put the tool in your wallet.

Come to think of it, I never leave home without my wallet, including overseas trips, so this is a solution!
Could always put it on a key ring as well.

No. Paper clip's too big.
So the nexus 5 only accepts like very small sized thinner paper clips and the original Sim ejector

Lol Dam you're really living off the edge.. that thing could break and it could get stuck in there #YOLO Nexus 5
Cut any unuse cable and see there's like thin copper hair size wrap together. Each hair is about 0.4 to 0.8mm depending on the cable you're having.
It fit nicely.. Otherwise bring along your originall ejector pin in your wallet all the time..

LG and Google Like it tight...
Anyways i went to a T-Mobile store and they gave me a defective returned nexus 5 that had the micro sim ejector and they gave it to me fo free!!! :good::good::good:
In a pinch, you can also use a staple. Just bend it out and it should work fine.
This just in!
I used a small paperclip yesterday. It was tight, but it worked.
sharp pointed end of a toothpick.
If you don't have the tool a sewing needle is usually handy and works better than a paperclip/staple.

Magnetic Car Mount suggestion please - Updated 10/19 - Back to square one...

I have been using a Nexus 5. In the car, I have a Kenu Airframe + Nexus Magnetic Qi Charger as mount+charging solution. It's very convenient, just attach/deattach magnetically. Now that my Moto X Pure is on its way (well... ordered), I hope to have some form of magnetic car mount solution. With the weight and curve back, I suppose it is not as easy. But I have read people been able modify generic magnetic mount (by adding strong magnets) to work with Moto X 2nd... Please share your thoughts/experience. Thanks!
Update 10/15/2015:
Found a working solution finally, see: https://plus.google.com/117665583874189322089/posts/CRXv8x1gqpE
Updated 10/19/2015:
The solution works for one day... and somehow the phone starts to spin to the side and then slide off. I think the pull is strong, but the contacting surfaces are too smooth. So, any slight movement the phone will start to spin a bit and then get off. I probably give up at this point, and back to the Airframe+. It's a cleaner mount, once you are used to attaching and getting it off...

I'll be using one of these http://www.amazon.com/Nexcon-Magnetic-Cradle-less-Universal-Samsung/dp/B00QAXY27S as soon as my case gets here. The circle plate has a sticky side that I stick to inside of the case. As long as the case isn't too bulky, it works like a charm.
I have never owned a magnetic car mount before. Do they hold up as well/stay in place as good as one that simply clamps down on the phone and suctions onto the glass or dash or whatever your sticking it to?
For me it seems to be the perfect combination of holding the device well enough but being able to easily remove it too.
Thanks, I don't quite want to add a case... but I missed magnetic mount so much...
Wondering if I could use some really strong magnet and not making any changes to the phone side...
The 3M tape included is really strong and the magnets hold like glue. The tape rolls off easily when you remove it so I doubt it would do any damage to the bare phone. There are no marks on the case when I removed it from my Nexus 6. As a side note, the magnet on the back of the phone gives a nice place to place the fingers, similar to the moto dimple. Sucks I have to remove the magnet from my Moto X case and put it back on my Nexus 6... My X turned out to be a turd with lots of lag and sd card issues. Should get my new one by Oct 1st.

Thanks, so will the phone still lay kind of stable on a desk? And typing on the keyboard ok when lying on the desk?
It will lay flat, but don't expect to type on it without it wiggling around. Swiftkey works if you're easy on it I guess. I always hold while typing anyway.

I use the one from ProClip (Link Below). I also removed the back and placed the steel plate and installed the back plate. Works great. I little pricey yes but this is 3 phone and 2nd car so not too bad.

Wow, you install the steel plate inside the Moto X 2015 Pure Edition? Amazing... there is space inside? And, you probably break the water seal?
Space yes but plate is very thin. The seal maybe but I added the glue back all the way around. I'm replacing the back with a new one this weekend that is an OEM back with the adhesive, so that will reseat it.

I wanted to do this too but I'm a little weary of removing the back after watching a video (ifixit, maybe?). It looked like a huge pita.
Did the original back cover go back on well or do you need the replacement now? What did you use to re-seal it?
Just didn't like the color and the back was $6 so why not
---------- Post added at 04:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:43 PM ----------
The original went right back on. I added some 3m double sided tape around the edge and camera accent . The new one comes with the adhesive already on the back so I'll be cleaning most of the old stuff off this time.
I am still looking for a feasible magnetic car mount solution for the MXPE. The problem is that I don't want to use a case, and I am not brave enough to open the phone to put in a metal plate, and I am also reluctant to stick a metal plate to the back either. I have a green back and most of the metal plates I see in the market are either black, silver, or gold. Today, I found this: http://www.amazon.com/Stiicker-Mobi...=UTF8&qid=1444417486&sr=8-3&keywords=stiicker
It is green, and it looks like it will match my phone's green back, although probably not an exact match. So, I ordered one and it will come in a couple days. Let's see whether that will work... will report back.

Folio cases?

Hello,
Typically I just use my phones in the nude, but with my oneplus one I did enjoy occasionally using the OEM folio case in orange. I really do like my 6p, but its about the slipperiest thing I own (opo ruined me with that grippy housing) and it feels delicate. Does anyone know of a folio style case that can also reinforce the phones structure(so I can finally stick it in my pocket without worrying about bending)?
This is what I had for my opo

I'd be interested in this too, if it isn't too thick.
Google do sell an official folio case BUT I've heard many horror stories about it being far too tight on the phone and extremely difficult to remove, to the point of breaking the phone.

Does this case have a magnet to keep the flap closed? And does it put the phone to sleep or wake it up?
This is on my short list. I had seen it on Amazon

The valkyrie does have magnets to keep it closed BUT no magnet for wakeup/sleep function. The phone easily snaps into a tpu case that is sandwiched between a wrap-around cover, like a book, which gives it protection from both sides.
But I ultimately sent the valkyrie back because there are no holes for the front speakers/mics (the mics are in the speaker pits). This means you have to keep the cover opened to talk. And I just learned recently that if you try to be clever and flip the cover to the back, it will cover the rear-mic and that messes up the noise cancellation and makes you sound muffled. So you now have to talk on the phone holding it like an opened book.
I was seriously considering drilling speaker/mic holes and splicing in a magnet into the cover. But then I found this from tetded. It has a magnet for sleep/wakeup and speaker/mic holds. BUT no magnet to keep it closed and the cover doesn't extend to the back so the back is not as protected as the front. It also costs more since it's real leather.
I bought mine directly from the tetded site and it will ship from hong kong. They have other models for the 6p and some even come with a nice clasp to keep the cover closed, but no speaker/mic holes (why!!?)
