[Q] Best Air Vent/CD slot Car mount - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello I am looking for a good air vent/cd slot car mount that isn't too bulky. I know there is thread for car mounts in general but I am looking for non dash mounts and windshield mounts.
Your help would be great!
Thanks

For CD slot types, I use this one.
Infiniapps Slyde Magnetic Mount.
It comes with metal discs that you can put between the phone and case and it will hold really well. If you don't use a case, it still attaches because of the 4 metal discs in the Nexus 5.
Just know once you go magnetic, you'll want everything to stick to things! hahah

I use the infiniapps as well and it's just great. Very true too that one you go magnetic you'll never go back.

Just a heads-up: The air-vent model I had moved around loosely when I executed gestures on the screen - the springs weren't strong enough to keep it tightly in place.

I have been using this generic air vent holder since getting the Nexus 5 a few months back.

Works great.

If you use the supplied discs in a case does it interfere with wireless charging? Or will it hold without using the disks but with the phone in a Nexus bumper case? Thanks.

I don't have a Nexus bumper, but it works with all of my hard cases with no issues using the discs.
If you don't use a case you don't need the discs. So no worries about wireless interference.
It will interfere with the wireless charging if you put the disc over the center of the phone. What I did was place the round disc (there is one rectangle and one round) higher up, basically close to the camera, away from the center of the phone and the Qi receiver.
This way I can use the dock and wirelessly charge with no problems.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Vehicle Mount. (My proclip review)

Well, I've pulled out my CarPC setup and replaced it with an android tablet. I had been looking for mounting options and Proclip finally sent me an email confirming they had just released a mount for the Galaxy Tab 8.9
About pro-clip mounts:
At first I was quite skeptical about how sturdy this mount could possibly be... But after receiving it, I was fairly pleased with the results. It is quite strong. Feels durable. And the design is just right. Its not monstrous like some of those generic mounts out there.
They have 3 versions of this mount available for the Galaxy tab 8.9.
#511300 ($49.99US) OK.

#512300 ($99.99US)eek...
#513300 ($119.99) ouch >_<
To mount the galaxy tab 8.9 in my 2006 Jeep wrangler, I needed to order two parts. The tablet holder (#511300) and the center dash mount clip (#853223).
The package arrived in good shape. Careful packaging was done so i'm pleased with that.
First lets talk about the holder it self.
The build materials feel strong. Much better than I anticipated. It's all plastic (except the screws of course) but it does not have that cheap plastic feel that some mounts have.
I noticed it has a sticker for http://brodit.se on the swivel mount. Must be the European main distributor perhaps.
When the table is mounted on the holder, none of the buttons or ports are blocked.
Its not very obstructive
And now the center dash mount clip:
This thing is over priced... Its all plastic. Im skeptical of the stability of this particular mount component.
And here are some pictures of the mount installed. Installation was a breeze.
The Table is used in my jeep for GPS navigation, music via a2dp, and OBDII data over bluetooth among other things.
It is held sturdy in place with no slack back, forth, nor side to side. The Tilt and Swivel feels just right. Its not too stiff to adjust, and it does not re-adjust its position on its on even when hitting moderate bumps on a trail.
I went out on a 2 hour drive to test it and i'm pleased. It held up really well. It was not bouncing / vibrating all over the place as I had thought it might.
The tablet gets tethered up to my phone for data, and sends music and navigation voice to my radio over a2dp bluetooth.
Feel free to ask any questions, or request pics if needed.
Have you seen any scratching of the device from its clip points?

Very cool. Thanks for sharing this. I'm still debating whether or not to get one with the built in power cable...
I use this too. This in my setup with the 8.9 LTE:

Im more curious about the OBDII via BT...How did you set that up, as far as software/hardware goes? I have a 2010 Wrangler...<Jeep wave>

Atrix 2 Otterbox case and car mount!

Ok i love Otterbox cases. I have used them with all of my phones for years. What i don't like is the fact that they don't have a car dock for use with the case...........So i made one.
I had to contact Otterbox when i broke the clip on my holster. They sent me 2 for free! My wheels got to turning and i had an old windshield mount for a TomTom gps.
I mounted the old holster to the old gps mount. I drilled holes in the holster so that the camera will work while in the mount and so it can be charged. Not the prettiest mount but it works well!

Nice. I'm going to be doing something similar, shortly, with an Atrix 2 Defender holster.
I picked up one of these to use as the base, though...
http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Fit-International-NS-56-08-G3-Specific-2008-2010/dp/B002OHD8NI
Couple that with an aftermarket Bluetooth module that I'm going to install, and a dash-mounted USB port for charging, and I should be able to keep the wires to a minimum.
Any advice on cutting the holster? I've got an old Dremel that I intend to use, and my plan is to cut away the middle section of the holster's bottom, so I have easier access to my microUSB port.
Regards,
Corporate Dog
cool
But the defender case is too bulky to fit in the "phone" pocket of my many cargo pants/jeans/shorts.
So I just use this with my Otterbox Commuter Case.

It works quite well. It's been mounted to the windshield of my truck for 2 weeks now, and is still gripping strong. I think it'd work w/ just about any smart phone. I'm thinking of getting 1 for my wifes car, for when I'm driving. They're not expensive.

From what i can tell the phones are very similar in size. I am going to grab the bike mount from this site and take my chances. They all use the same piece to hold the phone, so I will update this post with my findings.

Won't fit. I have Defenders for both the original and the Atrix 2 and even checked. Atrix 2 has a larger screen size and therefore needs a bigger case than those custom designed for the original.

i found my old slipgrip mount that was built for the htc desire hd with the otterbox defender. It fits the atrix 2 with its otterbox defender perfectly.
I love these things because they have so many mounting options (clamps, bike mounts, suction cups ect.

Milo Stand by Blue Lounge Review

I found this great product for the Nexus 4. It was probably designed for an iphone originally, although they market it for all smartphones. It costs $15 bucks with free shipping and it is a no-brainer at that price.
This stand holds your phone through micro suction pads, so it probably wont work with many cases. I have tried it with the S-line TPU case and it did not hold the phone, although the stand has a small lip on the bottom that will hold any phone that does not stick to it. That being said for those of you that have your Nexus 4 naked, or with any kind of bumper then this product works great. I use it by my desk to hold my phone upright when not in use.
First let me talk about the design. It is a very simple L-shaped stand. It has a micro-suction pad on the bottom and on the face (which holds your phone) these pads are amazingly sticky on smooth surfaces. I have tried it on marble (which is extremely sticky) and on faux wood (which is still very sticky. The Milo holds your phone incredibly well. I would even trust it for holding your phone upside down. I should mention that I have a best skins ever skin on the back of the device and it still holds rock solid. In landscape mode you can push the volume buttons, and the unlock button with one finger, and push hard and your device will not fall. The micro suction pad does get dirty and less sticky, but it can be easily cleaned by sticking some packing tape or clear tape to it and removing it.
Overall I highly recommend this product, Check it out at http://www.bluelounge.com/products/milo/. Let me know if you have any questions and look at the pictures below,
Don't forget to hit thanks if you like this post.

I actually bought the charging orb too but for me this dock is a no brainer at $15, Its very useful. Even in your car or anywhere you need to set your phone down.
I also got one in white when I had my S3. It only works well with phones with a flat back, tried to use it with a Xperia S and it would not stick. Works perfectly with my Nexus 4 with the official bumper on.
Thanks man!

[Q] Best car mount for S4 flip /s view cover

Since I got my first flip cover for the note 2 a while ago, I can't use anything else. Got one for the s4 and after that, a s view cover followed.
But I can't find and car mount that would work well with it. Everything I find assumes that you have a normal case.
If course I could fold the case and use it like that on a normal mount but I don't want to do that. I want to be able to shoot videos or take photos while driving.
Has anyone bought a car mount that works well with these cases?

I use a Clingo car mount, it works well and the cover rests on the arm on the back.
I haven't tried video recording though, I assume it might work unless the arm is in the way.

It basically sticks to your device. It doesn't leave anything on the back (I used it on both a Note 2 and an S4 and it's been fine for a year).
Also, it's quite reliable, at high speeds or on bumpy roads, although I'm still paranoid about keeping the window open at times.
There's also a small bonus, an NFC tag fits in the space on the back and can trigger car mode. In fact, if you install the tag lost Xposed mod, you can have car mode on when the phone is on the holder and off when it's not.

I´ve heard about those car holders but always though they were gimmick and didnt work properly. Nice to know they do, will try one most probably.
Thanks
So the back cover of your phones is still good after all this time. I was reading some reviews for it and some people claimed that their back covers remained sticky after they took the phone off the car mount.

Yes, it does leave a non-sticky mark on the back that can be simply wiped off. Although I think that's actually the sticky part actually cleaning the device, so part of it looks cleaner than the rest.
Anyway, a simple wipe with your shirt would remove it, it's not sticky or anything.

There is no slot for the magnetic charging port, but I plan on trying to make my own hole. Do you guys have suggestions on how to cut out the polycarbonate shell? The rubber part should be easy, but I don't know how I should cut the polycarbonate. Should I heat it up and then try to cut it like that?
Thanks!

My experience with a TPU case (very similar to that case), was about using a soldering iron (like this: http: //csimg.mercamania.es/srv/ES/00001933974/T/340x340/C/FFFFFF/url/6400-soldador-de-estaao-30w.jpg ) to reshape the holes...
Good luck!!

Yeah, and it SUCKS! Creates a white flare when taking pictures, a lot of dust gets under the cover and it makes your device bulky. But hey, I hope you might have a better experience with it!
Ow yeah, I forgot to most important one... It prevents the flap over the charging port to close properly about 80% of the time.
One more thing, you can't charge battery with the Sony Magnetic Dock DK32, phone with this case doesn't fit in it.

in the magentic dock you can remove the a part of the base to increase the space on the dock, have you tried that and the phone with the case still doesn't fit?
This was the first idea that I had, but I still doesn't fit - I'm talking about the case that LotoTutu called hard case for Z1 compact. There is a slot for magnetic charging dock, but the device in it is still too bulky, and I can't use the dock.

i bought this case about a month ago, and got it replaced couple days ago due to the plastic back is full of bubbles inside. at first i thought it was dirt but gave a wipe and nothing came off. I emailed the company and they said it is not normal, so that sample might be defected. Got it replaced at the shop and i will see how it last this time. Thanks god i didnt chuck the receipt away, never thought it would happen something like that. Let us know how yours going later?
