Chinese devices - General Topics

After testing a few cheap chinese devices with powerful specs I am a bit dissapointed.
Performance is enough, but all of its touchscreen áre horrible. Touching those screens make you feel like if you were touching something rough. They aren't enough sensitive and accurate for básic usage.
So... Before buying any device, how can we know if that touchscreen is gonna be great? Like Samsung device's for example.
I'm not buying more chinese devices unless I certify they have enough quality in their touchscreens.

You can't, you just need to read lots of reviews on them. That's the only way to find out.

But what's wrong with that phones?
The digitizer?

@tiner, before looking at spec, look at the manufacturer.... ZTE and lenovo are big brands and there's a reason for that.

well, there is something called "prejudice". i own(ed) several chinese devices and none of them got such issues. i got few samsung devices (galaxy s, galaxy note and s3 mini) for reference. at least i see no difference between usability, handling, responsiveness or other things. also, dont forget that your "premium" devices are from china, too. sure, there are differences in quality, but if you spend 40 bucks for a new android device, it can't be a high quality powerfull device.
btw: im writing this with a toucscreen of Star N9770 with one of the best accuracity i've seen in devices so far.

yes your right but maybe the lenovo this guy got was a snide?
So far I've owned 2 zte and 1 vsun i5, both zte phones are quality builds and feel solid, the vsun was made of that hard plastic and malfunctioned within a month.

yes, but that can happen on high end devices, too. there is one real problem wit those devices: support. if you got a faulty device, sending back to china is expensive as hell. you can buy on ebay or a local shop too, but they are much more expensive then and i would buy a well known vendor instead. i you want a guarantee for quality, yiu need to buy qauality. same for cars, bicycles,, pc's...

There are some distributors which don't apply you any charges of return shipment. Obviously if the issue appears in the next 2 days to the package arrivement.
However, it doesn't worth it, you áre gonna loose the devices for two months at least.

As I mentioned the vsun malfunctioned. It was from dx deals, I got in touch with them and they said send it back, it turns out that with dx you don't send it back to China but to a drop off address in your own country, it cost me 4 quid to send it back and they have since refunded the phone cost and the return postage, granted its not a quick service due to the distance but I can't praise them enough, the customer service is excellent.

Jiayu G2 - Dual SIM, 1GHz CPU, 1GB RAM, 4.0-inch IPS screen, ICS

Hi! I just ordered the Chinese smartphone Jiayu G2 from an online store. It is dual SIM, 1 GHZ MT6575 CPU, 1 GB RAM, 4 GB ROM, 4.0 IPS screen, dual cameras with 8.0 megapixel rear camera, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Look at the full specs here: http://www.chinaphonereview.com/jiayu-g2
I bought the phone because it has good specs and the price is only $169.99. I'm still waiting for it to be shipped though. I would like to know your opinions about this phone and if there are people who have tried this phone already. It would be nice to have some type of support for the Jiayu G2 in this forum.
Chinese phone usually aren't supported in this forum just because of the fact that most people here by brand name products. It looks like a great device based on specs. Give us your thoughts when you get it.

who knows, maybe it will be a good phone to start the experience with android, but here in italy you can take with 199 euros the excellent somy xperia u, that's a dual core android phone, that it's supposed to be followed by community.
i think that your won't be supported here, but with android you can do thousands things.
i hope you will enjoy your phone.
Sounds like a killer phone to me.

I received this phone from China last week, I am using it to run a business app, all is well, good screen and great to have more memory than on some other phones.
Testing Wifi printing, again no problems, only issue I have is with the Bluetooth and sending large data packets.
Another point I am not using this as a phone so can't comment on that.
But overall I am very impressed with the quality and service provided.

By the way, is your phone's firmware updated? There's an update for Jiayu G2's firmware at their official website www.ejiayu.com dated May 24, 2012. But you need to translate their website from Chinese to English with Google Translate.

Huawei is a more established Chinese brand, so it is much more expensive than the other Chinese phones. But I think Jiayu has a lot of potential reaching the international market because it has its own factory with a research and development department. It also has its own website with support for its products.
phone look nice, but better get a well established phone brand for better after sales service

Hello,
In the about phone tab I have this
Android Version is 4.0.3
Kernel Version : 3.0.13
I just checked the search for updates and it said there was one from 27th June.
When you say firmware is that the same as the kernal version ?

I'm not really sure. I think firmware and kernel are different things. Can someone help us here?
Did you update your phone already? Has your Kernel Version changed?
kernel and firmware are two different thing.
kernel is core component of the operating system (Android) that does the communication with the hardware.

I disagree. Jiayu G2 looks more like Galaxy SII. Meizu M9 costs around $260 from the link that you provided. It's $100 dollars more expensive than Jiayu G2. That's a big difference and Jiayu G2 has much better specs. So Jiayu G2 is clearly worth buying.
I just received my Jiayu G2 today. My initial impression of it is very good. The navigation is very smooth, no lags. The IPS screen is clear even when viewing at angles or at direct sunlight. Tried WiFi connection and it browses the internet fast. The camera is better than I expected it to be. Images captured were clear. The phone is certainly worth it. I'm loving my new phone already.

Huawei Ascend P1 - What do you think?

Hi
Looking for mye first android phone, cause waiting for Tizen turned out to being a big waste
Don't want the biggest screen, nor the most expensive phone. But this one looks pretty mint:

There are no threads regarding this phone on the forum yet, which kind of scares me. If no one is going go get it, there might be no custom roms etc.
Anyone tried it yet? The specs looks descent.Good phone for the money, or just a cheap alternative?
Cheers

I also like it.
But for this price (about 400 EUR) I would 100% prefer to buy a GS2 (now it's possible to find it even <400 EUR) which has similar specs and great support by XDA community.
IMHO, Huawei should drop the price to 300 EUR if they really want to sell units, at least in the European market.

Yeah, think I will get GS2 too.
One more thing is that the Huawei "support" seems very poor. Decentralization information. Hard to get in touch with their support people. Ex. I still have got no answear on whether P1 will get Jelly Bean or not (asked through mail). And I believe no one else but themselves know the answear of that question at this moment. Which leads to one more reason not to buy it.
It has potential, but I have to say that Huawei as a phone producing brand, don't seem very legit. I know they are big worldwide, producing lots of stuff used buy operators etc. But thats it. Seems like they don't spend to much energy (or lets say money) satisfying their customers, and building their brand.

Looks neat.
Not bad at all.
Great phone by looking at pics/specs. BUT!
In the UK at least, it is priced similar to the HTC One S in not a bit higher. These two devices appear to be very similarly spec'd. with the Ascend P1 being a bit shorter/narrower and, perhaps, visually more appealing (that's subjective, of course)
From what I've read - I understand, the P1 DOES have a microSDHC slot for memory expansion - the HTC One S does not.
Yet Ascend P1 doesn't even have its own forum yet and it's been out for a few months now. The One S is very well supported by developers on the other hand.
Bottom line - unless Huawei drop the price significantly - i.e HTC One S goes for GBP 260-280 (Euro 300-320 ?) on ebay right now - and the P1 should be with at least a 50 euro discount to that - Huawei are not going to sell a lot of these, which in turn, means less developer attention, etc...
how to know Getting , ask service ?

[Q] Suggest me a handset between 16-20k

Hi everyone. After proudly using one of the root android handset of all time , i am planning to shift to a new phone. And for obvious reason cant find any better place to take some advice. My budget is strictly between 16-20k. I am considering few sets for myself, one of those is Tab 2 p3100. Wondering how will huawei be. getting some impressive reviews on the net about huawei. not sure whether i can get jellybean out of the box in this range but will certainly appreciate released JB update for the model i choose. Tab 2 has already got one JB update i guess. If any suggestion peeping through your head please help me out .. will always be grateful and amazed by the strength of our community out here in xda....... Viva xda. !!

I expect it to be of cheap quality, but I was looking for near borderless phones for some years now and this phone seems to be the closest to ideal (it's as big of a screen as s3 but it's almost as small s3, *that's * innovation).

Hello there,
I'm from Spain and I'm participating in a jiayu g4 advanced joint purchase in a known forum.
It seems that in jiayu they have many problems with their supplier Samsung, they will not supply in time the 2 GB Ram chip.
As I have understood, this problem will delay to the middle of may the G4 Advanced production...
Please Note also that Jiayu is a quite small company and for producing G4 they will discontinue the production of G3, so we can forget any official android further updates.
If you like very much flashing new ROM every week, I suggest to yo searching a different device.
Bye bye

That's a shame, for the money this device looks very interesting. It's a shame there aren't more tech journalists in Europe and North America covering devices like this. HTC and Samsung devices suddenly look very expensive indeed but tech sites seem just keep on obsessing over them as if there weren't any other options out there.
I might try and buy one in May once the production situation becomes clear.
Any idea when the 2GB model will hit the market?
It is going to take a while, I guess.

Still worth it NOW?

Hello,
I had a Xperia Z1 before and it had some problems so I sent it to Sony just a week ago and they are going to destroy the phone and leave me with nothing (unless i pay, then i get the broken device back) so I'm looking for a new phone just after 3 months :/ The oneplus two seems nice but I don't really want to spend 400 bucks on a phone as i'm only 16 years old and don't have the money for it yet! I can get the 16gb model but my music library is about that size lol! The oneplus one seems nice but I'm not exactly sure if I should buy it or not as I've seen people post stuff about messy touch screens which is a problem I really don't want!
Has this been fixed in recent updates and is this still a good phone to get for 300 bucks(64gb)?
Thanks in advance!

Touchscreen issues have been fixed, only bad thing is that with the latest Android L, the battery isn't so good but it's possible to downgrade to kitkat.

Mentioned touch screen issues were with initial lot.. The new devices don't have any problems..
OPO is well worth the money..
Only advice would be not to upgrade to 5.1 and continue using it on 4.4..for the sake of battery of course.. [emoji56]

Yup, there's no problem with it, I got one bought in January till now and it has no issues at all, no yellow tint or touch problem. Previously I got 1 early China batch one it indeed has yellow tint, but it doesn't as annoying or visible as you think.
Also vote for staying on KK, Lollipop the battery drain like nobody business. (Stock CM12S/CM12.1, Stock Kernel too)
go ahead n buy... no device has comecloser for me in terms of value for money!! no issues left now
hopefully android m will end battery problems as well!!

Alrighty then, the device is 300 euros in Europe and that's a steal! Do you guys happen to know when they will stop selling the one to estimate how much time I have left to buy one?

I don't think they'll stop the sales anytime sooner. The phone is selling a lot even now, after a year of it's release. So take your time.
I'm sorry I didn't see the date of your query, but You will not find a better phone for the money. I won't ask how they managed to refuse to warranty the phone, but that is a shame. Hopefully you can save up some money and get one.
Hi. im also planning to trade my G3 for this device, im worried of my G3 that the crack issue will occur soon so I think of trading it for the 1+1.
is it worth it?

Have you actually read this thread? Or the dozens of others just like it in this section?

Yes its totally worth it. I bought my g3 in January of this year and as days pass by I started hating it. There was barely any development, the battery didn't last long, and it got pretty warm after sometime. I trade it for a one plus one and I'm not regretting it whatsoever I mean it doesn't have the fancy features like the g3 but the only thing I used on my g3 was the radio sometimes and rarely the ir blaster.

Its still a decent device, although I'm keeping an eye on the ZUK Z1 which has been announced for international release to day (available October), with Cyanogen OS. Its basically shares many of the same internal hardware with the OPO, but has some additional features like OIS, dual SIM, finger print scanner, USB Type C, bigger battery, (arguably) nicer build materials.

Oh, they're also working on a ZUK 2 for January! Featuring the Snapdragon 820..

I sold my 64gb One Plus One (only had it for a few months, got it after the invite system went away) to fund a One Plus Two but ultimately decided to get a Mi Note instead. Love it; far happier than I was with the One. The One had ghost touches, yellowing screen, crap and a half camera (who cares about 4K if HD and FHD still look bad) and horrible onboard sound quality. The Mi is fantastic. Giant LCD (I'm 6'6" so this is a plus), OIS camera, best audio DAC I've ever hear on a phone. And I really like MIUI. One Plus MIUI is broken.
The only downside is shipping from China, but mine arrived no problem (15 days, most of those spent in some sort of customs). 16GB are roughly the same, 64GB Mi Note is cheaper than comparable OP2.
Answer to your title: No! You can find better devices with the same money.
Sent from my bacon!!!!!
I just got my OPO for 2 weeks.
It has yellowish band on bottom screen.
But overall I satisfy this phone. (especially I am a flashaholic user.)

I heard that band issue can be fixed by using it in the sun or putting it under some UV light, so if I have it I'll try that
To be honest, I'd take the Moto x Style or Moto x Play. With the new style center from Motorola and the 20 mp camera on the Play edition, it really stands out and may even be better then the 1+2.

In my country, the moto x style is 500 euros which is well over my budget since I wasn't planning to buy a new phone any time soon!
you mean 380 euro in your country look at coolbue.nl, the moto x play is there for 379,-

You're right about the style edition by the way, that one is 500 euros
