High battery drain with mobile data - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I just rooted and installed a custom ROM on my Evita One X earlier in the week. I had used wizzrah's excellent EZToolkit to get S-off, install a custom recovery and then a custom ROM. I had originally had a CM11 nightly installed, where I noticed high battery drain when having mobile data enabled. I went back to a CM10.2 stable build and have experienced the same. It's a really fast drain while mobile data is enabled, maybe a percent every few minutes. I have an AT&T LTE SIM installed and am in an HSPA+ area with LTE nearby. I keep noticing that the status bar icon keeps cycling between H, H+, and 3G. I had noticed the same with CM11 nightlies, but it's also happening on CM10.2. Is this normal? Do I need to flash a new radio? Something seems a bit unusual.

If you've just flashed the ROM, have you done an initial charge cycle? This means flashing the ROM, letting the phone discharge to ~10%, charging it fully, allowing it to discharge to ~10% again, and charging it fully. After doing this you should also let the ROM "settle in" for a few days, the battery life should improve. Once you've done that and you feel that the battery life still isn't good enough come back here with some battery statistics and we can try to analyse what's going on.

Let the battery fully drain last night and then gave the phone a full charge overnight. The phone is at 57% right now after being unplugged for 17 hours. I used very little mobile data (maybe for a few minutes); I was connected to WiFi most of the evening. I'll let it drain overnight and see what it's at in the morning. The weekends aren't a very good use-case for me because I'm not at work and am around WiFi most of the time. I'll see how it goes on Monday when I'm at work and using mobile data a decent part of the day.

If you're at 57% after 17 hours off charge, I'd say that's pretty normal drain. What kind of screen on time?

Screen on is at 32%.

I meant the actual time the screen has been on for. If you go into Settings/Battery and then click Screen it'll show you.

Ah, okay. Time on is 1 hour 6 minutes. I have the screen set to auto-brightness and timeout is 30 seconds.

I think that's about on par, it could be a little better but it's within the realm of being normal. Auto-brightness is a bit of a battery killer, it tends to make the screen brighter than it needs to be.

Just an update after about a week. I've tried a few different radio images ([ATT 1.85 /1.82 (0.17.32.09.12_10.86.32.08L)]; [ATT 2.20 (0.19as.32.09.11_2_10.105.32.25)]; [HTC ATT 3.18 (0.24p.32.09.06_10.130.32.34)]) and the battery results seems to be about the same regardless of what radio I have installed on CM 10.2 and CM 11 builds. The battery life drops about 1% an hour until I'm connected to mobile data and it drops a significant amount more after that, probably about a percent every few minutes. I will try some other ROMs and give my report here.

[Q] Best battery life?

Hi,
I just recently bought my Inspire and rooted/s-off/eng s-off.
I flashed Android Revolution and I can't stand that I can't have my phone for more than 6 hours before 15% battery.
Is there any other ROMs that have better battery life? I'd rather have something like an optimized stock, but I really would love better battery life.
If you're wondering, I don't do a lot on my phone--just music, texting, and mild web. No video, and some e-mail.

For me, CM7 has better battery life than AR.
It's AOSP though so no sense. Though honestly I don't miss sense at all. In my experience the only feature that sense has over stock is the dialer and camera.
How long were you using Revolution? ROM's need some time to even out in the OS. At first they'll rip through the battery like nobodys business. Also, did you reset the battery stats? I'm pretty sure that is in the Revolutions FAQs. I could be wrong though. Also, the ROM in my sig is a great one to try. He also had a sense version if that's your bag.

I flashed CoreDroid V5.1 two days ago, and i'm sad to say i'm experiencing similar DISMAL battery performance. I've ran specific tests on it all day today, and this is what i have seen thus far:
08:12 - 95% - Airplane mode ON
09:46 - 91%
11:32 - 86%
12:30 - 83% - Airplane mode OFF
13:27 - 73%
14:33 - 62% - Airplane mode ON
16:30 - 44%
These stats were taken with the phone NOT IN USE. The screen was off and it was sitting on my desk. So, as you can see from the list above:
with AIRPLANE MODE ON - a loss of ~3-4% per hour
with AIRPLANE MODE OFF - a loss of ~10% per hour!
This is patently ridiculous!
When airplane mode is on and the phone is not in use, it should be basically on standby, using maybe a percent every hour or two.
When airplane mode is off, 10% /per hour?! That is just INSANE! No WONDER i can't get until even 7pm before my phone is dead!
If it can be determined what is sucking down the battery with Airplane Mode ON, and that 3-4% is eliminated, then the phone should have no problem lasting >14 hours.
(As a note, i saw similar performance before i rooted, so it's not just the ROM)
Moved as not android development.
I don't know if it's just how Sense works, but whenever I view the Applications in Settings, ALL my apps are running, ALL the time.
I don't remember it being the case with my Captivate, though..
Charge your battery till it completely charged. Turn the phone off and boot into ClockMod Recovery. Wipe the battery stats and hopefully that should help with the battery.

If i leave my phone alone over night while i sleep after 8 hours it will be at 93/94%.
Download an app called CurrentWidget. It will tell you how much your battery is being used.
Remember to enable logging so you can check the log latter on your sd card .
With my phone idle I normally get ~3mA or less per minute with spikes of ~160mA once an hour or so.
The max "Screen On" time is about 2 hours per charge.
There is also an app called Traffic Monitor Widget to see how much data each app is using.
These may help you understand what your battery drains so fast.

I dunno really. I just took two more screen caps from today. Just my general days usage. I've had the phone for only a week now so I expect the battery to break in a bit more like my nexus did. I was a bit worried about the battery life and this thing lasting me throughout the day but I have been impressed so far. I never even used it with the stock ROM so I can't compare, I dislike Sense.
I've been off the charger for 13hours. I'm at 50% with 1h10min screen on time too. I've had mine for about two weeks now.

I'm running coredroid 5.1 and I fail to see that I'm loosing 10% an hour. Here's how my day was in battery faintly remembering. Woke up at 9:30 took of charger and left for work by 10. From then to I say around 1 I had around 90% only cause I was messing with my build.prop so I was restarting my phone like 20 times doing some test. Also I was ebbing a lot to look for info on what I was doing. And near the end of work around 5 I had even been playing music and games. And was around the 60% I wanna say in the high 60% I played with my phone a lot today and as of right now the same day I'm talking about I'm at 44% and been on my phone like crazy even rebooted a few times again. From what I have been doing to my phone I highly don't see how u could loose so much battery. So from now 10 to to 8 I'm at 44% that 10 hours I was playing with my phone like crazy.
Tips. Use recommended radio's. Charge to 100% clear battery bin. Also give it a few days for the Rom to get built in a little bit. also go download frail CPU its free. It'll help you save some juice when screen is off. Hope this helped.

thats because your phone is sitting in standyby 90% of the time. I've never checked my battery use and NOT had display at the very top using at least 50%. Its not wonder your battery life is great
I have been on many Roms but cm7 rc4 is the best for me. I get about 18 hrs of life with normal usage and gaming. I think Sense is the culprit on other ROMS. Also the free memory on cm7 is 200mb more than on Sense. And this is 90% of the time for me.

I don't think you can beat miui. Pulling 1-4 per min. Of all the roms, I tried this is the best. Ginger with OC kernels too.

I have noticed something funny about the battery stats on different ROMs. In particular, on CM7, I would never get display as using more than about 10%. On the other hand, when I am running stock rooted ROM, my display always uses about 60%. This is all with similar usage patterns and similar brightness settings. What is going on there I wonder?
I have also never seen my display less than 40%! Even today.
Attached are screen caps of my usage, based on what was happening earlier.
So lets see, display was on 1 hour out of 15 hours. And that = 40%. yea. i call bull****.

I am heaving very good battery life with CorDroid 5.1 But I also had good battery life with Rev roms. When I am in a fringe service area I switch to GSM only and it more than doubles my battery life with the radio I am using. If I dont need the high speed I leave it off if it is not a strong signal.

CM7 battery life Troubleshooting thread

I am loving this rom, but also having HORRID battery life, I am literally dropping 10% every 90 minutes with an extended battery.

Now I keep reading that these might be false readings, but I keep reading this as a response to those having **** for battery life... so maybe they are not false?
Anyone having good battery life show readings like this? Those with bad battery life, what are your readings?
I'm running the CM7 w/the 2.5 radio - I'm in a 100% full time 4G area, but seem to have worse battery life when the 4G radio is on, so I just keep the phone on 3G - if I need the faster data I can always turn it on and off.
I'm running the stock kernal, no overclocking or setcpu type stuff going on.
Would like to hear from folks running this ROM w/killer battery life, what are your settings, tweaks, etc. Please specify if you're running an MR1 or Mr2/2.5 version and/or running the latest OTA 2 radio that just came out like yesterday.
I just turned off my FB sync (I forgot about that). I don't have gmail set up to sync automatically either.
I'm going to do this procedure a little later today and see if it helps, this is for the EVO, but, ya know....
34. "Calibrate" battery - (1) Turn device ON, charge it for 8 hours (or until LED turns green), (2) unplug and turn it OFF, plug it back in and charge for 1 hour (or until LED turns green), (3) unplug and turn it ON, wait 2 minutes, turn it OFF, plug it back in, and charge for 1 hour (or until LED turns green), (4) unplug it, turn it ON, and use normally.
Anybody else try this?
today will be my first full day of work use w/this ROM so we'll see what happens.
Best to keep 4g off if not using it. Also, turn Bluetooth off when not in use.

i had horrible battery life the first day - then it got better. then i flashed mr2 official and battery life is really solid. getting like 15-20 hrs with 4g always on, bluetooth on sometimes. one important thing is having a custom lighting table which i will post later.

I have never, nor do I intend to ever do this. I got an extended battery for a reason. I can go all day and then some on the official roms, and all of the Sense roms.
I am not new to CM7, I have run it on both an Eris, and an Incredible. Both devices got FAR better battery life on CM7.
I am not complaining about this rom, or Slayhers hard work. I simply want to gather information so that we may help him trouble shoot.

This is exactly what I did lol, I had lost 10% in the first 90 minutes, now I am at 58% at 5 hours. I have been streaming google music for 2 hours of that 5 though. I would guess I should have seen an increase in battery usage, but have not.
The battery readings are wrong, I get a full day on 4G with my stock battery and see those numbers for cell standby etc. I use lean kernel though

do you see those numbers for BLUE TOOTH though? We know good and well some numbers are fake, but that does not mean all.
FYI I am now at 37% and 7 hours and 7 minutes... I have not used google music since the last post and I am seeing the exact same battery drain as when I was using it.
I have absolutely horrible battery life when I'm at work (which is basically a bunker). On a normal day, my battery will be dead within 6 hours just sitting there on my desk.
However, when I am at home (great 4G signal), I see my device getting upwards of 16 hours with moderate use.
I will also say that since I upgraded to the most recent radio, I have been having much better battery life at home. Additionally, my phone has stayed much cooler with the most recent RC + new radio combination.
I heard if you change the render fx to n1 calibrated, then you will get like 1 hour extra of battery life. You can change the render fx by going to cyanogenmod settings.

The other numbers have to be wrong. Theres no way cell standby is the number one battery user.
my cell standby is also showing 30% with the new OTA 2 radio.
I switched to dream kernel (have not wiped battery stats) and am now at 88% after two hours, that puts me at 6% per hour verses yesterdays 10.

only works for AMOLED screens.
edit: to be clear, it only saves battery on AMOLED.
so what i have found is that after installing dream kernel and messing with the governor settings... along with being connected to wifi. my battery life has improved tremendously. i wiped battery stats this morning after a full charge and didnt notice any change.. then i flashed the kernel and messed with gov. settings... after rebooting ive noticed a huge huge difference.. just my 2 cents for anyone who had battery issues like me
Yesterday I was able to choke out 20 hours while in a 4G area the entire time.
Running RC 1.2, Imoseyon's leanKernel extreme mode (extremely undervolted and OCd to 1.4GHz) and using the InteractiveX governor.
Also, I just happened to reboot and surprisingly it only took away 1% of my battery. Amazing considering whenever I did that on a Sense ROM, I'd experience a battery loss ranging from 7%-10%.

What settings did you land on as best?
cpu is set max to 368 mhz(very low) but i can crank it up if im doing somethign like playing games or downloading and want speed. brightness is at about 15-20 percent. the dream kernel and mr2.0 radio have made a big diff too. the dream kernel made the biggest. usually when id power off or reboot id lose 6-10 percent same as someone else i saw post. now i lose maybe 1 percent which is a huuuuge difference considering you lose 10 percent just because you reboot. also i try to stay on wifi wherever i go. on 3g i def notice it drain quicker, but i am no expert and there are a lot of people on here who by far outexperience and outknowledge me(my new 2 words) so im sure other people have some suggestions

That is strange I am also using CM7 with an extended battery and still have 41% left after 14:56 on battery.
battery use does show
cell standby 31%
phone idle 19%
android system 19%
wifi 11%
dialer 10%
display 6%
voice calls 3%

Guess, I get to ask for help. [Ticket Closed for Now]

Background: I have had phone 11 months. I am very familiar with how the battery drain is while it is stock (WiFi ON all the time). battery lasted ~16h which is plenty for me.
Rooted phone, Battery Life on AR14 and IceColdSandwich (and others) was around 20h with WiFi on all the time and light use.
Recent Kernels (anything IceColdSandwich 3.0.0+ or AR 23+ (haven't tested between 14 and 23) cause a base of around 50mA of drain even when phone is locked. Battery life is ~8-10hours WITH NO USE. I have tried these ROMs without installing ANYTHING on them with the same results.
Current Widget does not identify an offending program from what I can tell.
WiFi off, the phone lasted 2d9hr of pretty light use.
I first started looking into WiFi when I forgot to turn off airdroid and unplugged the phone for 3 hours. I found AirDroid still running but could not connect to it via laptop or desktop until I tinkered with the phone a bit more and the WiFi connection cycled.
However during this time, the charge lost on the battery was a reasonable rate, and after the WiFi connection cycled it dropped like the usual rock.
What I've tried:
WiFix
WiFi polling interval increase
Cleaning/checking battery cover contacts
Changing battery covers
Battery Calibration (which is a myth from other reading I've done)
A couple of different programs like Juice Defender.
On the list to do:
Try a different Kernel
Root my friend's phone and trade him hardware (he says he never uses WiFi, so it won't be an issue for him)
/wrists

on icecoldsandwich ive seen quite a few people show an improved battery draining using lordmods newer bfs kernel. maybe give that a try and report back?

Here is some irony.
Exitz ICS AR25 has been on the phone for a couple of days and has lost essentially 10% per hour when not on the charger (been off work in my house) After the 4th day, I installed AirDroid and AngelCamera. I took it off the charger last night...
92% 6 hours later AND the phone has been awake(?) all night...
Seems I left AirDroid 'running' but couldn't connect to the phone through AirDroid until after the WiFi cycled...
I will see how the drain is today. I'll out of the house all day tomorrow (half a day in Denver), toggle off the wifi for a day at home, and then try your suggestion Darunion.
Here are a few screen shots (first two are old), and honestly, I don't know how much I trust the battery stats.
IceColdSandwich 2.0.0 pretty much shows that battery life I have been used to for a long time including before rooting. Not AMAZING, but not fail. (WTF Proximity Recaibrator 29% of Drain on a 16 hour day?) Also note this is about the same rate of drain I experienced with Existz AR14 last week. Light use and ~16-19 hours of battery life. Not amazing, but I can live with it.
IceColdSandwich 3.0.0 pretty much shows the battery life I have been getting with any ICS roms since.. well 3.0.0 was released. Oh and the voice call that is 37% of drain lasted less than 10 minutes.
Existz AR25 (someofthedrain.png) the steep drop was a 20 minute phone call...
And Finally Airdroidwtf.png is the same install three nights later (this morning) If I could get battery drain like THIS on a regular basis...
Anyway, I'll keep trying to isolate this down to the specific 'area' of the phone that is causing it....
Edit: and as for Darunion commenting about the information I've included... I'm a patient person, I don't want to be a drain on the community, and I have no issue trying to solve a ROM, APP, Radio, RIL, Or watever issue. I'm only posting because the issue isn't unique to a ROM but is unique to a time frame AND the issue is not solveable via Google or XDA search
Right now it is looking like the 'extra' drain on newer ROMs is directly related to the wireless being on*.
Right now the phone is at 1day 19 hours with 14% left and the wireless was only on for the first couple of hours this charge cycle.
I never thought there would be such a considerable difference between battery usage on any ROMs.
I'm going to continue looking around and trying to solve things, and I haven't quite made it to trying the Kernel, Darunion. It is on the list after I toggle WIFI on and off throughout a day.
*The rest of this post is just back-story I have ran the phone on stock for 11 months before rooting it and during that time, I got used to leaving the WIFI running all the time simply because the battery always lasted through my longer days and my-typical light-use. I'm near WIFI that my phone connects to about 80% of the time.
So after rooting, I had a little increase in battery life and I never changed this habbit, or more to the point, I was leaving WIFI on as to make it one less variable in drain while testing various ROMs and different build dates.

Yeah, I know this isn't a typical issue for most everyone, and am not implying so.
Likely it will end up being something very specific to the two WIFI networks I am at for 80% of the time OR something else that is very specific to my circumstances.

Have you, by chance, removed and reinstalled your back covers? I know it's unlikely, but since they contain the antennae, maybe they've come a little loos, resulting in higher imepedence connections.

I have not specifically toyed with the covers as part of trouble shooting. I will be sure that I look at them after my battery finishes charging on WIFI.
It does seem to be more a software difference, (I've casually be at this for the better part of 2 months) as I have seen expected performance when flashing back to a ROM I've used.
Thanks, I like being able to limit variables and this will be one I check before charging the phone again.
(What I'd really love to do is convince my brother or one of two friends who have the Inspire 4g to let me root their phones so I can trade them phones for a week and really isolate out hardware issues

Right now, I'd like to figure out WHY my WiFi is so bad on battery drain with later AOKP releases.
I'll try to rule out hardware issues (I'll look into antenna and MAYBE convince a friend to let me root their phone and trade them for a week... if not then covers at least.)
But likely this is something about newer releases and how my WIFI is setup. I don't live in a high-density area, so it's not because of too much wifi trafficz (I can barely see a 2nd wifi with any device and it's on the opposite end of the frequency choices.... by my settings)
Anyway, I am a very patient person, so I'll continue working on this slowly so that I can be thorough and find the real cause of the problem.
What I would wish is for someone to point me in the direction as to how WiFi MIGHT drain the battery so hard for later releases but not earlier. I'll be reading up more on logcat and how to read it in regards to wifi... but searching and reading is hard because 'wireless' and what not are very vague terms
Now at 1% (still) and 2d9h... is MORE than double my record on the first roms I tried after rooting OR my stock rom. and MORE than quadruple my record on any of the newer roms
I've swapped battery covers with a friend this past weekend, and the WiFi being on still drains the phone considerably (~8%/hr) when turned on. So if it's a hardware issue, it's not in the battery cover.
Wifi and blue tooth are very hard on the battery regardless. But 8% an hour seems pretty steep tho.
I would start by getting the current widget in Google market and put in on your home screen to monitor your Mili-volt ussage. If its running high like the 200+ constantly you have a lot of drain going on. When in sleep mode it should drop down to 0mv up to 8mv. If it stays high in the sleep mode you have apps waking your phone from sleeping. Which causes tremendous drain.
Next I'd try removing apps that have wifi permissions. To see if that drops your mv ussage.
Drop your notifications to less frequent times on your email and Facebook.
Remove any task managers or juice defender. They run constantly.
Google + is a massive battery drainer. Remove or limit notifications and sync as much as possible.
Also running wifi fix apk could also help. If you are knowledgeable enough you could also edit the build.prop to set the wife scan at a less frequent rate as well.
Last but not least get a toggle button widget for wifi and turn it off when not using.
I'd you follow these steps this will drasticly decrease your battery drain.

I started by running current widget for about a week and with a 3 different roms AR23(?), IceColdSandwich 2.0.0, IceColdSandwich 3.0.0.
I was stock for 11 months, and ICS2.0.0 was a little better than battery drain than stock. AR23 and ICS3.0.0 were terrible and pretty much ran a constant 50ma drain asleep or awake as a baseline.
I'd really like to figure out what the difference is with the older AOKP and the newer AOKP, but that may never happen.
Next I'd try removing apps that have wifi permissions. To see if that drops your mv ussage.

I've been testing with stock roms since a couple weeks before I posted this thread. This is because current widget didn't really show any specific program causing the issue, so I wanted to make sure that I didn't have some issue from my installed programs.
The most I've installed (out of necessity is AirDroid and AngelCamera) in the past few weeks. Both were installed when I ran without wifi on one charge for 2d9hrs.
(I don't have a google+ account, I don't have juice defender or any task managers aside from the stock rom)
Also running wifi fix apk could also help. If you are knowledgeable enough you could also edit the build.prop to set the wife scan at a less frequent rate as well.

This is likely going to have to be my solution. Just run cell data all the time unless I am doing something specific like downloading files or uploading pictures.
OR
Maybe I can convince my friend to let me trade him phones (root his and nand backup and then restore all his stuff to my phone) and see if it is about the same drain. His phone was bought a couple months after mine AND from a different vendor, so it isn't going to be out of the same manufacturer's lot.
I'd you follow these steps this will drasticly decrease your battery drain.

I'm in the same boat you are. I'm running ics aospX ar-26 and I can barely get mine to last from 8 til 4. Wifi is pretty prevelent around here and I leave it on most of time. I guess I could try turning it off til I need it. Anyway I'll be following this thread.

You also might consider reading the threads on calibrating battery after flashing roms. I made the mistake of flashing a rom @ 40% battery. It jacked my stats all up. The new rom thought 40% battery was actually 100%. It had my stats all screwed up too. Except mine was Bluetooth. Showed running at 60% of battery ussage. So don't trust that system tool. Because the display is almost alway gonna be the biggest drain on the battery. An app called "spare parts" is a little more accurate.
I ran the gambit on this one finnally got my battery back to normal for me anyway. I've never seen a full days use with out charging. Get about 14 hours Max now. But the calibration steps is the way to go.

I actually have read quite a bit about battery calibration... and before I flashed a new ROM, I've made sure that current widget has been tracking 0ma for a while. (Only reliable way to be sure you have a full battery from what I can tell)
The batterystats.bin file and calibration has been ... contended in a number of places, mostly stating that when taken off the charger 'full' the battery stats file is overwritten... which makes calibration a non-issue (assuming that you occasionally charge your phone for a while after it hits 100% from time to time)
The problem is that the WiFi mA draw is HUGE compared to what it should be (in theory from reading other people's logs), and it's not because of the battery cover. AND It's not as bad in older AOKP ROMs than it is in newer ones. SO it could be a hardware issue exacerbated by a change in how WiFi is handled, but the hardware issue was never noticed because the battery life Stock was sufficient for my needs.
I've been busy working so I haven't been able to continue troubleshooting the phone (damn my patience), but Mondayish, I'll likely have traded my phone with a friend and root it and flash a new rom and see how the drain is with completely different hardware from a different vendor from a different lot of phones.
I had a similar issue with wifi. I changed the build.props wifi supliment scan from every 15 seconds to 180 and used the wifi fix manager apk. That seemed to help. Coupled with a proper battery calibration and I'm back to my display being the major battery draw.
So don't know if that helps but it seemed to work out my bugs.

This I can do right now.. and given I'm on the same, unmodified AR24 release, I can observe it for the weekend before I annoy my friend about his phone.
Seems the WiFi scan interval was already set to 100... moved it to 180 anyway.
I used to have this issue. I could literally see my battery draining while I was using it. I keep wifi on most of the time. I recently purchased an anker battery online. It is AMAZING! My old battery wouldn't last more than 6 hours or so. Right now I'm at about 14 hours on this charge, and I'm at 47 percent. Try swapping his battery for yours for a day or two. Another thing to try is different radios if you're losing power to cell standby.

The phone ran for 2days 9hours with WiFi off and lasts for 8-10 hours with WiFi on. I am pretty sure that it's not a Radio/RIL or a Battery capacity issue. ;(

[Q][SOLVED] Device turns off at 45% Battery

Hello enthusiasts,
I'm having a problem with my HTC One Mini (from German Telekom).
The device keeps turning off at around 45% battery charge. There is no warning prior to the shutdown. You can briefly see the "Battery is low!" warning for a tenth of a second until the phone shuts down completely. It can then not be turned on again unless I plug it into the charger. When turned on immediately afterwards, while charging, the battery status has changed to 0%.
There is a screenshot attached which shows the Voltage of the battery about 2 minutes before the device shut down.
I have already used the search and found numerous threads about devices shutting down with a high battery load, but the linked tutorials are often obsolete or unappliable.
I've been studying Wikipedia articles about Lithium-Ion batteries which say that the lowest voltage for a battery generally is 2.5V. Many manufacturers implemented security measurements that keep the battery far away from this low voltage level. I expect the 0%-load to be around 3V, but 3.3V should still be rather "loaded".
Concerning the overall device duration after a full charge: It has become far worse. After first flashing Cyanogenmod M11 Snapshot M6 a fully charged battery would give me around 20h of time until it would die. I've always recharged the device when it reached about 20% charge, before it turned red. Now it barely manages to get to 12-14h. And I don't even use it heavily.
I've already tried some battery calibration apps, but they all haven't shown any influence on the symptoms.

I've had the stock ROM installed for about 7 months until July and then I've only installed different versions of Cyanogenmod.
Namely Snapshot M7, a Nightly one from July, back to Snapshot M7 (at this point, the problem with the battery started occuring), then a nightly from October 6th and just recently the Snapshot M11. It should be noted that I've always wiped the system partition before installing a new build.

Flash a stock ROM and see if it still happens.
I have this problem also on any roms. But my isn't at 45%. It's usually at around 14% or 30 something. After it reboots my battery will be 0%
I've had the stock rom running for some time now and the battery display is absolutely fine with it. As soon as I go back to my CM M11 backup and recharge the phone, the measurement gets all confused and the phone starts shutting down at ~45%-50% again.

I have the same problem. As soon as my phone gets to about 40%, the battery drains to 0% within minutes, even while the screen is off and no data is being used. My phone is just over a year old and running a rooted, but stock version of 4.4.2. I don't think it's ROM related since it only started doing this recently. My guess is that our phone batteries are malfunctioning. Check out this person who has the exact same problem I have on the One M8:

His screen shots mirror mine EXACTLY. One thing I discovered is that while charging from 0% while in recovery, I was able to see my battery percentage jump from 7% to 50% when I booted to the OS. The battery then died again minutes later. This only happened once, but I'm guessing that our phone might be displaying a higher percentage than what is true just before it dies.
I have a strong feeling this might be CyanogenMod related, as it is known to have caused great problems on dozens M4's with overheating / strange battery drain / weird stuff like that, among many other bugs.
If I were you, I would do a fully clean install of a stable Sense-based ROM and kernel on upgraded firmware and see if problem persists.
Upgrade to the latest TWRP recovery
Wipe everything
Factory/Data reset
Advanced wipe: Cache / Dalvik Cache / System / Data / Internal Storage
Format Data
Upgrade your firmware, if not done yet
Install latest InsertCoin, choose "Perform a full wipe" option in AROMA
When installer finished, uncheck "Reboot phone now" and get back to recovery
Wipe [Cache] + [Dalvik Cache]
Install latest Xceed kernel (for Android 4.4.3)
Wipe [Cache] + [Dalvik Cache]
Reboot
I wish it was that simple. Thought CM may have some known issues, my device and the other example I linked to are running stock Roms.
If it wasn't happening every single day, it wouldn't be such a big deal, but now I'm seriously worried that I can't get a full days use from it anymore and it's barely over a year old. Sending it back to HTC would be a huge pain since I'm rooted. Though I guess it would be worth it in the long run to finally have a phone that doesn't shut down at 40%

Hello everyone, sorry for the delay.
It looks as if there might be damage to the battery as the %-display for the battery is still wrong on a Stock ROM (rooted and outdated) that I've had on the device for a week now.
Okay guys, what to do next? I guess I would like to completely revert everything and reset the phone to 100% stock. Would you guys recommend opening a new thread for that?

I'm running a Stock branded ROM (T-Mobile Germany) with Sense 5.5 and Android 4.4.2 which is OUTDATED, however using the stock Recovery, I can NOT install OTA Updates as it stops at 50% showing the attached image (courtesy of droider.eu).
So the plan is to get the default Kernel (remove root), make the Stock ROM updateable, remove TAMPERED [might require S-OFF if I'm correct] and get everything LOCKED again (and not RE-LOCKED). I need your help to achieve all of this and it would be awesome if you could help me or just tell me to open a new thread.

I am in the same boat with you. I have completely given up on this battery. It's not ROM related. The battery simply doesn't hold a full charge anymore and the only remedy is to send it back to HTC for replacement. Since my phone has no insurance or warranty, I'd have to pay for it completely out of pocket. Fortunately, I've got my old HTC One S that still works perfectly and just loaded the latest KitKat Rom to it. The battery life and over-all performance of the One S is nearly better than my One Mini. I'm not feeling very compelled to get it fixed at the moment, but I'll let you guys know how much it costs if I change my mind. Good luck with yours.

Can you get rid of the tampered warning on the boot screen? I thought it was irreversible. If not, I don't think HTC will warranty it.

Of course you can, at least I assume you can. On the HTC One there are already guides and I guess the Mini is not that much different. It requires S-OFF though, so at least I would have to tinker around with my phone even more.
Our Plain vanilla -stockROM One mini is having similar issues:
It shuts down at battery 30%
- removed unneccessary app's - no result
- Factory reset - No result
Contacted HTC support, they advised to run self-test ( *#*#3424#*#*) in safe mode
Tried that: Boot-up in safe mode - charge full - batterytest : Put it away for the night while batterytest running, hoping for a report in the morning. Unfortunately no report, but a battery status of 1% - so no shutdown at 30%
Second time: Charged full in regular mode (100%) - reboot in safe-mode: Battery shows up @57% and could be charged for at least one hour.
Ran battery-test : after one hour of testing, battery = 91 % while 71 % is lower limit for failing battery, so battery succeeded.
Third time: Just testing the difference between battery-status in regular mode vs. safe-mode
Full charge in regular = 50% in safe mode (and able to continue charging)
Don't want to sent it away for repair: expecting to have it sent back after a couple of weeks: " we did the batterytest, and it's functioning fine. Your device is not broken"
My idea: something interfering with the battery-status indicator ?
But what ?
Any ideas ?

Thanks for reporting a similar problem to mine. I haven't gotten to fix mine, yet, too. Mine even powers down at 75% Battery and now has a horrible battery life of about 2h of normal usage (occasional screen activity, listening to music).
But how did you find a batterytest? I can't seem to find one in the safe-mode via that dial code. Can you explain where you found the battery test?

Wow - I wish you had posted this 2 days earlier! I just had a new battery purchased for my phone and I'm getting a local repair shop to replace it. Sounds like my battery could be fine and I will likely have the same results after it's replaced!
If you fully charge the phone in safe mode, does the phone battery still last the appropriate amount of time in regular mode or does it still shut off prematurely?

Not sure if I understand this: I did the Power-button - volume down - 'Factory reset withour keeping data" - as given on the HTC website

It still does: Fully charged in safe-mode it shuts down @30% - does seem to last longer to reach 30% level
Last night I tried a different trick:
After shutdown @30% I kept the phone off and recharged it to 29 %
I put the phone back on and drained the battery to 0% - ignoring all warnings ("please charge .... CHARGE ..... G*DDAMN START CHARGING, I'M FREAKING DYING HERE ....)
Recharged the battery while powered off from 0% to 100%
Tested this morning: Same battery level in regular mode as in safe mode (98%)
Hmmm, I seem to remember doing some thing similar by accident with my phone when I stopped charging around 30% to use it. It drained to 0 shortly after and I fully recharged while in recovery mode. The battery seemed to last longer that time, but any subsequent charging before letting the battery die seemed to result in the same poor battery life. It's not a real solution but if you can confirm that yours acts similarly, then it's more info for us to have as we try to figure this out.

[Q] battery dropping significantly?

I've been using the latest ota 44s rooted, but with no modifications. its probably the most stable yet. no issues apart from this. despite the battery being actually quite good, i get 6+ sot within 40+ hours. but i'm getting an issue where according to the battery monitor, it drops a few percentages in one go without me actually using the device. its still on deep sleep. no wakelocks or anything like that.
Could it be that the battery stats is not being monitored properly by the phone? where the phone is going down steadily and then it realises the battery is at a slower percentage than its already displaying?
or is it something else?
This has happened to me several times previously. though no reboots, and battery life is still good.
as you can see here it drops from 86% to 77% whilst the -mAh is at -9mAH
Use a app such as better battery stats and debug your apps. There's most likely a app causing the phone not to properly deep sleep

i used to use bbs, but then found wakelock detector easier to use. if i install v2.000b7, do i just go into the advanced setting and add debug info to logcat?

I have also come across the sudden battery drain issue this past week. My phone deep sleeps well and I can find no wakelocks. It appears to use excessive battery when idle. I have tried a fresh, blank install of CM11S 44S and that didn't resolve the issue. I have since moved to Cm11 nightlies and that slowed the battery drain but I am losing 12% battery per hr when idle and the phone is staying warm. I do not understand how this happened and why it just spontaneously began. A fresh install with no additional apps, and no problems entering deep sleep. shouldn't be doing this This phone was brilliant for battery life and I cannot work out how to resolve this.

Have you checked what frequency your CPU is at while idle?

I have checked that and it appears to be sitting at the minimum 300MHz as far as I can tell. Since posting I have tried PA 4.6 for 24 hrs, no additional apps, and now I have moved to Liquid Smooth Lollipop nightly just to see how they compare. Even changing radios doesn't appear to have any impact on the power consumption.
When using GSam battery monitor on both the CM11 and PA (both behaved similarly) my phone was using anywhere from 500mA to 800mA (minimum screen brightness) for no apparent reason. I am unsure what usage this phone should be to be honest but I think that is high.
On Lillipop, the category 'Miscellaneous' is by far the greatest usage category and is seeing 2-3 times expected mAh drain compared to its computed usage, though I am unsure how that is worked out.
The most my phone will last now is 8hrs standby, in deep sleep. I am beginning to wonder if there is something wrong with the hardware of this device now. Perhaps the power regulator... Not sure what test to do next TBH

The next thing I'd do would be a complete wipe and flashing the fastboot images. This still return the device to a completely stock state (including wiping the user data), leave it like that (don't install any apps) and test for a day or two.

Before flashing the CM11 Nightlies to see if they rectified the issue, I had downloaded and clean flashed the stock 44 image via fastboot but the issue remained. I shall re flash it though and post back...

Fresh install, data off and left to own devices for a few hours and it is deep sleeping like you would expect, but a neat linear drop in the battery of 10-12% per hour as before...
I saw the same type of behavior while running CM11 based ROM. At night, I would put device into sleep (no data/no wi-fi/no sync/etc.) - basically everything off. In the morning, it would still show 100% - but then quickly drain several percentage each minute for the first 10 or so minutes. It was like it was catching up to the correct %. I have used wakelock and BBS and nothing sticks out. I also set Google Play services to stop wake (which did help battery life a lot).
