[Q] Will this wipe my note? - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
I'm pretty new to this whole rooting and putting on ROMs thing, so I wanted to double check something.
I am running Cyanogen mod 10.2 right now and if I go into settings -> about tablet, it says I can update to nightly builds. If I do this, will it install just like an OTA update or would updating be the same as flashing a new ROM and I would lose everything? Thanks for the help in advance!

Anyone?

You wont loose anything if you will update it this way. BUT ! nightly updates are not really stable

[Q] Unfortunately Android Keyboard has stopped

Hi Newby here!
Samsung Galaxy 7 GT-P1000
I somehow stumbled my through rooting my stock tab using odin. failed to install a few Roms for Jellybean, but eventually manager to get AOKP build 38 (android 4.04) running. Like an idiot though, the Gapps file was a newer one intended for Jellybean Rom. It went on, however I now get the 'Unfortunately, Andoid Keyboard has stopped' message. I have looked around and tried the force stop and clear cache, but sadly no fix.
what do I do now? can I just install a more recent ROM over the top?
can i install a rom thats not AOKP now I have AOKP on there?
I basically want Jellybean on my tab rather than ICS.
Can you provide me a link to the Rom and relevant Gapps Jellybean, and is it the just the same process as the initial ones I put on?
OR, can I just put an older version of Gapps on and it will resolve my issue. (I want jellybean but can live with ICS if working properly)?
Sorry for the volume of questions... I am just at a loss of what to do as I dont know what I can and cant do.
For the record I dont have Nandroid or bootstrap on here. they were not mentioned in the tutorial and I had already cleared everything off my tab so wasnt worried about losing anything on it.
Thanks in advance for any enlightenment...
As I sit here now I managed to resolve both issues. I just managed to locate and flash the correct Gapps. reset/wipe, del cache, delete dalvik cache, run akop and run replaced Gapps and hey presto.. ICS running smoothly on my GT7 P1000. Runs snapseed, chrome browser just fine. All my social apps are far better in pics than gingerbread. Loving it. Many hours lost on the steep learning curve.
One question remains.. can I flash a from on here by a different mod? Cost I have seen jellybean for the P1000. Don't know whether to quit while I'm ahead, or now I'm getting the gist, mod to paranoid androids jellybean.

[Q] Installing 10.2 nighly updates?

NOOB HERE!!!
My quick and hopefully simple question regards installing the CM updates that are available directly on my phone. I am running 10.2 with no issues. Nearly everyday I get the icon stating there is an up to CM10. I simply click on it and install. Again, so far so good but I would like to know if simply installing these updates this way is "endangering" my phone. Is there a better way I should be installing these? I am assuming not otherwise the updates would not be present and as simple to install. Thanks for your input!

It is perfectly safe to use the built in cmupdater every day. For piece of mind it may be a good idea to occasionally make a backup manually using your recovery of choice (either TWRP or CWM).
If you ever encounter a problem after upgrading to the latest nightly, and nightlies do sometimes break features, just boot into recovery and manually flash the previous day's file (located in the /cmupdater folder)...no need to wipe anything.
I've been dirty flashing cm nightlies since June. You're fine. A clean flash doesn't hurt once in awhile though!
Thanks! I appreciate it!
I dirty flashed for a year with no problem at all untill a few days ago. I went from the 8/16 to the 8/17 to the 8/14 and lost my imei and eri once the 8/14 booted. Ive been trying everything with no luck to get the eri back. make sure you do a full (not just imei) NV back up and do a normal rom/data backup like once ever week or two. Im regretting not doing a NV backup as the only tool to fix my problem has been removed from the site due to infringing the ToS.

[Q] Upgrading within CM

First off, like many others here, I would like to thank all the CM devs, the xda devs, and everyone else who has made it possible to run CM on the Skyrocket. I came from stock GB and the upgrade made it a new phone. You guys rock!
My question may be simple and I apologize in advance, but I am somewhat of a newb and I have made it this far without having to post a question. I have been able to search and find all my answers about installing a custom recovery, radio install, CM upgrade, and everything else associated with flashing a new ROM so I don't feel too big a newb.
Now that I have a clean install of 10.1 up and running along with the associated Gapps package, CM is telling me that 10.1.3 is available for download. My question is this...Is it safe to upgrade within CM? I am assuming it verifies the md5 hash to prevent a corrupt file from being installed? And when CM reports that 10.2 is available, how would I go about updating Gapps, since that requires a different Gapps package? Would you have to flash the new Gapps from recovery? Would it install over the older Gapps package? What about 10.2-would it have to be flashed in recovery, or would it be safe to upgrade within CM (once it becomes available)?
Thanks in advance for your replies, and thanks again to everyone who has made it possible to extend the life of the Skyrocket.
I would change CM Updater to show "Stable Only" updates for now until you become more familiar with everything. In a nutshell, yes you can use CM Updater to upgrade to CM 10.1.3.
For CM 10.2, it's currently in Nightly status and the upgrade process is more involved than just allowing CMUpdater to do the work. Go read the thread for more info. Short answer: CMupdater is perfect for nightly/stable updates of the same version (ie CM10.1.x to CM10.1.x). Don't use it for upgrading to release versions (ie CM10.1.x to CM10.2).

[Q] Updating OmniROM 4.4 daily on a device

Hi Everyone -
First off, let me apologize in advance for asking this question as I imagine it has been asked dozens of times previously.
I recently installed a custom ROM (OmniROM 4.4 'KitKat') on my Galaxy Note 2. I backed everything up, rooted it, installed recovery, etc. and then installed the nightly build of the ROM at that time.
The ROM is currently undergoing heavy development/nightly builds and I'd like to update from time to time.
Here's my question: do I need to wipe the device completely every time to UPGRADE the same ROM to a newer build? installing the ROM is straightforward enough, it's reinstalling all the apps, reconnecting email, etc. that's a PITA if I were to do this several times per week.
Can someone let me know what the process is for upgrading? Or point me to a link!
Thanks a ton in advance!
B
Hi, I've updated ist daily in the last 5 days. I just checked for updates in the phone settings and the phone (GT.I9100G) does everything automatically. All my apps and data are still there after an update. Nothing was deleted.

[Q] Rom Backup Advice

I am needing advice with backing up my Cyanogenmod 11 stuff. How do you guys do your backups, enabling you to flash a newer version etc and not lose your data and setup preferences?
I flashed CM11-0303 (and appropriate kernel), then did un update to 0307 and re-flashed the kernel again. This causes major issues and I had to reflash 0303 again from scratch. I was going to only start updating with official CM updates but apparently you can't install an official release update over a nightly install. Is this true?
Thanks, my phone is an S4 i9500. Hope you guys can help because I now want to reflash a new official release without losing my data and setup preferences.
:good:
Sorry, I just realised I posted this in the wrong section!
