Partial Fix Maybe? (Fastboot & Windows 8.1 on AMD PC) - Android General

Hey there XDA. As you all know there is a problem with fastboot on Windows 8.1. There is a fix for people with Intel machines with USB 3.0 but your out of luck if you have AMD (like me). Luckily, I started searching the AMD website and found NON-Microsoft AMD USB 3.0 drivers that work with Windows 8.1 x64 (At least with my PC). So hopefully with a bit of editing from developers (I'm not one), that fastboot will be working on AMD USB 3.0 machines.
To install
1. Disable Driver Signature Enforcement. Tutorial here
2. Download amdxhc.inf
3. Press Windows key + R and type in devmgmt.msc
4. Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers and right-click on where it says USB 3.0
5. Click Update Driver Software and click Browse My Computer for Driver Software
6. Click Let Me Pick from a List of Device Drivers on My Computer and select Have Disk
7. On the pop up window click Browse and find the file you downloaded (amdxhc.inf) and double-click on it
8. Press OK, click on AMD USB 3.0 Host Controller and click Next
9. Let it install and you are done
Hope this helps in any way

[GUIDE][NEW] Gettig fastboot to work on any windows and any USB Port

This is a guide on how to get fastboot to work on any windows and any USB Port such as USB 3.0.
I have an ASUS N550JV that is running windows 8 64bit and only has USB 3.0 ports and I have successfully used fastboot on it.
I don't take any responsiblities for bricking your Phone/PC/Notebook although it has no risks at all. SO do as the instructions below and get yours to work too.
Here are the steps to do it:
1. Installing HTC Drivers on your windows:
* 1. a) If you are on windows 8 follow the instructions here. You can also download the drivers for windows 8 from the Attachments or Dev-Host.
* 1. b) If you are on windows 7 or XP just download this .exe file from the Attachments or Dev-Host and run it.
* 1. c) Restart your PC/Notebook
2. Relating to your USB port choose one below
* 2. a) If you have USB 2.0 ports on your PC/Notebook go to fastboot in your phone and plug it to your PC/Notebook. If "Fastboot USB" is shown on your phone's display without pressing any key, then you don't need to follow the steps below.
* 2. b) If you only have USB 3.0 port on your PC/Notebook follow the steps below.
* 2. c) If you want to use USB 3.0 on windows 7 follow the steps below.
3. Restart your PC and go to boot options.(Mine is by pressing the F2 key repeatedly before showing windows boot animation)
4. Go to Advanced> USB Configuration> XHCI and disable it. If you can't find it ask from your manufacturer about how to do it.
5. Restart your PC and enjoy

This guide is for those their laptop or pc doesn't have USB 2.0 ports.Just like my ASUS N550JV
Got it to work, but in a different way, but using the available drivers from this post..
Just pointing to the folder didn't work because I had to make it work with fastboot..
To fix that I just hit the right mouse button on "androidusb.INF", selected install, booted the phone as fastboot via "adb reboot bootloader", windows recognized the new device and now I have fastboot working fine..
Anyway, thanks for your Win8 driver.. it did the trick..
Edit:
FYI, the HTC One didn't work on my Series 8 Intel mobo with Win8/8.1 because of the "extensible usb driver" but it's now working without having to do that impossible plugable tutorial.. So, yes, this tutorial fixes several issues with several HTC phones on Windows 8... It's not restricted to "doesn't have USB 2.0 ports"...

[Q] USB Problem (searched everywhere)

Since the last windows update from this week windows cant detect my nexus 5. I tried everything. It keeps showing up like "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" And i doesn't show up immediately when i plug in the phone. It takes like 10 seconds, then it shows that with a yellow triangle.
Hope that someone can help me. There is also a thread on Reddit (/r/Nexus5) about this.

uninstall every driver related to android. Uninstall every usb driver. Reinstall everything. Try every sort of install. Install via toolkit. Nothing worked.
I tried other cables, doesnt work. Other computer. On other computers it does work (which arent updated to the latest windows). But the problem isnt something in the hardware because it really started after the update.
none ??
In Device Manager, click on the yellow triangle and then uninstall the driver. Once done unplug the phone and then plug it back in again... Windows should then install the correct driver.
Here's something else to try...
http://androidcowboy.com/2013/11/install-nexus-5-drivers/
If either of those doesn't work you could try a System Restore to a date before the update. Then when Windows update pops up again have a look at what it wants to install to see if you can figure out what caused the problem, then right click and select Hide Update.

Thanks for your quick answer. Didnt help. It still shows up at device manager as "Unknown USB Device (Device Descripter Request Failed)"
If i try to update driver software via device manager it tells me it failed to update with Code 10.
Tried phone on my old laptop with windows 7 and it immediately connected as Nexus 5.

Make sure android sdk with platform tools and usb_driver is installed on your PC and then,
Follow these steps:
1. Connect your phone to your pc and head over to control panel---device manager and select your phone from there.
2. Right click on it and select update driver software.
3. Now select "Browse my computer for driver software"
4. Put this path "C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\extras\google\usb_driver" (C:\Program Files (x86) may differ on your pc depending on where you have installed the SDK)
5. Put a tick on "Include subfolders" and click next.
6. The drivers will be installed again and everything should work now.
Make sure you accept the authorization request popup on your device when you connect to your PC.

That, and the fact it works on your old laptop tells me it's most likely a problem with the USB ports or controller on your PC. Do you have your motherboard disk? If so try reinstalling the drivers. Check USB settings in BIOS too.

Can't properly install the android fastboot drivers on Windows 10

I keep trying to install the fastboot android drivers on windows 10 but every time I connect my shield tablet original to windows 10 laptop. It's already recognized and is put under the Category "Universal Serial Bus Devices" as the name "Shield Tablet". Then after I try to install the adb drivers, I try the command fastboot reboot, but it stays at "waiting for device". What should I do now? Im just trying to flash the official build version of TWRP on my Shield tablet original WIFI. Thanks for the help!!!!

Did you try installing them? I am running Windows 10 and have those drivers installed.
Here is a guide to installing drivers on Windows 10: http://en.code-bude.net/2015/08/19/how-to-install-unsigned-drivers-in-windows-10/
I had to do the manual install on Win10. Hit browse, show list, pick folder, etc. I think it comes up as Android Device Interface or something to that effect.

Android drivers for windows

I have tried mediatek, rca and all other drivers I can find and nothing seems to work on windows 10 64.

I have a Windows 7 64 bit system and I am trying to find drivers to access an rca rct6703w13
I have tried every driver I can find and nothing seems to work does anyone know something that will work?
I would be very grateful if anyone could help?
Thank You
Oh boy, I still remember this pain trying to find and use such drivers on Windoze:
- try another port
- try another cable
- try this driver or that one
- try doing a rain dance with 3 days old undies on your head, and turn only clock wise, unless it's full moon, then turn counter clockwise but stop briefly after ever two and a half turns
Maybe, as workaround, you could boot from a linux CD and try your approach from there.
Whenever I flash from my debian, it works: If "fastboot devices" still doesn't show anything then usually I have forgotten to plugin the cable
By using my "Yet Another Universal ADB Driver" Package (see the link in my signature) one can remove all the old adb drivers if that is the issue, but this case seems to be more interesting...
On win10 it seems that the adb is embedded to the winusb driver the same or similar way (registry wise) that my package is using. Now that I have tested, the behavior is similar with my devices. When using file transfer connection the adb is not recognized. With others, charging, photo, midi the abd works fine. To make adb work with file transfer one have to install the correct driver. In this case google's general driver could be okay, one match for vendor and product ids in it ...
https://dl.google.com/android/repository/usb_driver_r13-windows.zip
What I tested using virtual win7 64bit, it seems to behave the same way... which is a bit weird as I've tested it with my driver package. Worked okay then I think. The Android device used has changed since though.. It worked on win10 back then too.. the change has to have happened later.. or I didn't use file transfer..
@steadfasterX 's maid or salt or whatever it's called nowadays might be usable in this case. It's a Linux having SP flash tool etc. available..
edit: tested and it turned out that the updated phone is the problem... using another phone my driver package worked as expected..
@resxwni01
1. Don't confuse USB-driver and ADB-driver: the USB-driver since ever is by default part of any OS, so also of Windows OS. The ADB-driver is an extra protocol what allows you to communicate with a phone's Android ecosystem via an USB-connection.
2. Latest generic ADB-driver ( correct: ADB client ) got released August 2022 and is officially versioned 33.0.3.
3. AFAIK a 64-bit version of ADB-driver doesn't exist.
With regards to install this ADB-driver on a Windows 7,8.1,10,11 PC:
It's NO USB-driver installer - as introduced above by @CXZa - needed what unnecessarily bloats the Windows registry with crap.
You
1. simply create on any mounted drive of Windows PC a folder named "ADB",
2. extract there to the 3 files what are in the attached ZIP file,
3. add path of created folder "ADB" to Windows environment variable PATH, thus ADB-driver is systemwide accessible -
how to is described here
How to Set the Path and Environment Variables in Windows
Information on how to set the path and environment variables in Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.
