[Q] constant reboot after installing roms - Asus Transformer TF700

Hello everyone and happy new year
I unlocked my asus tf700 using asus unlocker...
Rooted fine, with super user
Installed clockwork mod recovery 6.0.4.4
Tablet stock is 4.1.1
The problem is that no matter which rom I install... when it finally boots up it goes to the setup screen no problems.
I enter timezone etc etc then rom loads then after a minute or so the system freezes for a few seconds then restarts..
I cleared cache , have done a factory reset, and tried different roms listed in the tf700t section of xda.
I rooted countless phones and tablets and never had this problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you inadvanced!!!!

Check your bootloader. You have to be on 10.6.1.14.4 or higher for any of the current roms.

Hmmm i didnt know that, i never had to mess around with that with any of the phones or tablets that ive done in the past.
When i load up android it boots up and says bootloader 10.4.4.5 i guess thats not the correct version. For some reason I'm drawing a blank on how to update the boot loader...
Lol

You tried different roms from XDA and missed the section in the OP about warnings, requirements and instructions in each one of them???
It's usually the part in red with the huge letters, the part that says: READ ME
To get your bootloader to a current version you can flash the latest firmware from Asus. You would have to reinstall the custom recovery via fastboot afterwards of course.
Or you can download the bootloader/TWRP package in the OP for CROMi-X and flash that. Again: depending on which rom you want to flash, you may have to change to a different recovery afterwards.

The funny part of it all is that I'm color blind lol.
Ok I updated to the correct bootloader and so far so good.
I was honestly surprised that I missed that part as well, but as I read it I thought to myself hmm but you knew that!! Lol
One quick question though, now when I boot into boot loader holding down the power and up there's only 3 icons instead of 4. The USB icon isn't there anymore.. Is that normal
Btw I'm on a cm 11 update.. Fingers crossed
Thank you again for your time

Good! Glad you worked it out. Maybe wearing green colored glasses while reading forums would help
ICS: 4 icons in bootloader, push Volume Up on flashing USB to get into fastboot
JB: 3 icons and you're in fastboot by default.
Or was that from JB 4.1 to 4.2? Can't remember... My problem is a serious case of CRS...
The glasses would come in handy here again: Read the script: "Starting fastboot protocol" Admittedly the script is tiny, but still: Read man! Read! The stuff is there for a reason!
LMAO

Very Good, everything worked out perfect and thank you!
You made me laugh with the green glasses comment lol.
I'm on kitkat nightly .. Seems OK. I notice some lag but nothing crazy.. I was thinking about going to paranoid or another ROM but who knows lol.
I installed cm on two kindle fires last night with the adb... Thank god for development ,damn that kindle skin blows.. No app store just the amazon app store, what a bunch of crapppp...
But thank you again for taking the time out to help.

[Q] Rebooting into recovery -- dead Andy ;)

I tried rebooting into recovery to perform a factory reset because the update from .21 to .22 doesn't get through, but after POWER+VOL_DOWN and subsequently VOL_UP, I am confronted with a dead Andy -- with a hatch open and a red warning triangle. The unit reboots itself after while and gets into Android itself OK.
This is a damaged recovery, right? How do I go about fixing this? Fastboot (seen some threads in the G1 forum).... Amon's recovery (not available for the T700 yet, I think). I've never had this before, so I am at a loss on how to progress.
Is there CWM available yet, or is that not an option if your recovery is unbootable in the first place?
Andy is dying! Help me help him!
.....
Uhhh....... thanks!

Not sure about recovering the stock recovery, but installing a non-stock one requires an unlocked bootloader which we dont have yet.

Thanks for the reply -- indeed, all the guides I've read to get to CWM or Amon Ra's recovery all revolve around getting that bootloader unlocked. I sure hope development in the TF700 picks up soon, and fast, and we can get some luvin' on this baby. This obviously is not that critical an issue, but I would like to flash a custom recovery and at least have a nandroid backup when the proverbial excrement hits the ditto ventilator.

Thanks for the suggestion, but when I have the SD card removed, recovery boots as it should with the report that the "signature has matched" -- in that sense removing the SD card doesn't make a difference, as far as I can tell -- but then cuts off and Andy dies again with the open-heart surgery image.
And then, while I typed this response, I tried to turn off the TF700 by pressing the power button, and voilá, the recovery is there. So I just had to push the power button to not harass you people with n00bie posts... Lesson learned, thank you!

How did you do that? Just power down? I still have the dead Andy image after installing TWRP with GooManager...

If you are completely stock, then that IS your recovery. It is telling you there is nothing to flash/install. It does not mean its broke or damaged.

Are you positive you are unlocked? You must be unlocked, not only rooted, to install TWRP using GooManager. Also, if you still have no success you can always use the fastboot method.

Good job! Any custom ROM you flash from here will probably provide root access in the package, so you won't have to think of that again (on this particular device, of course ).

[Q] Unauthorized software message ONLY when booting into recovery

This is my first post ever here so I'm sorry if I'm breaking some rule (read the forum rules so I don't think I am) or if it's in the wrong subforum (although this does seem like a help & troubleshooting topic to me).
A little backstory is probably necessary.
I rooted my s3 (latest OTA update) via CASUAL (thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2332825) and it seemed like it worked for the most part, although it didn't boot into twrp like it should have and instead booted into normal recovery. I just assumed that it was because something went wrong with the recovery installation so I just thought "ok whatever."
Root access was there, and I assumed the bootloader was unlocked since I read several places that when it's unlocked, the initial samsung boot logo appears for about a second as opposed to several seconds when it's locked. So I just assumed all i needed was to reinstall a custom recovery and I was golden.
Installed ROM Manager, flashed CWM through the app, and rebooted the phone, and as it was booting into recovery I was greeted with the infamous "NO CUSTOM SOFTWARE ALLOWED PLEASE ALERT PAPA VERIZON IMMEDIATELY" warning.
I was about to flash back to stock through odin (which i regretted since I've had bad experiences in the past using it) when I figured out I could get the device to boot normally by clicking cancel in the download mode confirmation window. I guess it kept trying to reboot to recovery after every unsuccessful boot, which made it seem like it was softbricked to me.
Phone is operating normally now, and it should after another reboot as long as it doesn't try to go into recovery again (though I'm kind of afraid to even do that).
Is there any way without Odin I can fix my recovery and/or bootloader? I'm not sure what the problem is here and I don't think this sort of thing is a common searchable issue. Google/XDA search didn't bring up anything that sounded like someone had 100% the same problem I do.
Also on a semi-related note, does EZ-Unlock still work with this latest OTA? And if my bootloader is potentially unlocked already, would unlocking it again through EZ-Unlock break something?

That is really weird...
I was reading it and was going to suggest easy unlock v1.2,you will not break anything using that app.
If that still doesn't work, try to flash TWRP through goo manager and see if it somehow fixes your recovery issue.
It sounds to me that your Bootloader is unlocked though... But give it a shot.

It's just strange that you only get that message with recovery mode, it normally will not do that.
At the very worst, an odin back to stock is pretty easy. Just follow the same process, but use ez recovery instead of rom manager. It was made specifically for our phone, and never gives me any issues when installing recoveries.
I still think if you use ez unlock it'll probably fix the issue completely. Let me know if you figure it out. Good luck.

No, but it wouldn't hurt.
Use 1.2 of ez unlock, versions 1.3 and 1.4 will give an unknown message. There have also been lots of reports saying that version 1.4 did not unlock their bootloader.
These are the most recent recoveries, download and flash in the ez recovery app if you need to.

Reflashed CMW (I used the version provided by ez recovery, please let me know if that's a problem) just in case and it worked like a charm. Thanks!
Also I did use version 1.2. I actually had it sitting on my phone's home screen before I made this thread.
It still showed up as "Unknown". Maybe that indicated the problem?
Regardless, this problem seems to have been fixed. Now it's time to do some research on verizon s3 roms.
Also another semi-unrelated note, it seems I tripped a flash counter somewhere along the line.
Is Triangle Away one of those apps that is just "open and press a button"? I've been kind of wary of using it since it has that huge warning in app's description.

Glad to hear it's working! Strange issue but looks like you ironed it out.
Triangle away is the app you would use. You tripped it using the rooting method injecting your recovery through odin, it's a big warning because it messes with your boot partition. If it fails and borks your boot partition, then you'd have to jtag your phone to fix it.
I personally wouldn't use it unless I was turning in my phone for service or replacement. But the app has great reviews and not many reports of bricks.
Before flashing anything, use a newer recovery image. The one provided by ez recovery is from last year, the newer versions are better written to prevent possible errors that come up with jellybean.

Read through the op's and decide based on what you're looking for.
Mostly stock, very stable:
Clean rom, bonestock, darthstalker x1.
More modified stocks, more buggy but can run very well:
Hyperdrive, axis, goodness, moar
AOSP isn't my cup of tea, but they are fast and lag free.
Make sure you update your recovery image first, I edited my last post but think you missed it.

[Q] First time rooting/S-Off/new ROM

Is there such thing as a guide like this one but that is up to date and with working links? I want to flash a new ROM onto my phone, but the guides I've found here and elsewhere have broken links, or use language that I don't understand, or skip vital steps. I've been working on this for four hours straight and I haven't gotten a single guide to work, or get stuck, or something else that's really dumb. For someone who has worked on computers for the last 17 years this is extremely frustrating. I'm very new to the android modding scene and apparently it's not just a community, but an entirely different culture and I'm feeling a bit shocked and confused. I have like 30 tabs open with guides, info, different ROMs, different ways to do it, etc and the more I learn the less I understand how to do this :/ I just want to get my phone working with a ROM that's very similar to stock Sense but without the crappy bloatware and memory issues. Miktouch is the one I thought I wanted, but apparently hasn't been updated in almost a year, and bulletproof/doubleshot is confusing. I can't even figure out how to root and get S-Of... Gah!
Please help.
This guide is confusing and skips steps or lacks real explanations.
Thank you.
First thing you want to do is root your phone, this is done by unlocking you bootloader through the HTC dev website. There is a tutorial that is stickyed in the developer section called something like root from any bootloader. I suggest to read that a bit.
Once you followed those steps and unlocked your bootloader you can decide if you want to remove all security flags (highly recommend this, but some find it difficult) in the same guide it explains what radio s-off is and links you to the jbear site to do the wire trick (needs Linux) (or find weekendstoshort for a way to do it in windows)
Feel free to ask more questions but all answers should be found in these xda threads and jbear site, no need to Google anything for this

I hope so...I'll give it another go tomorrow. I'm still quite frustrated at it. I wish I knew someone who had done it and could show me in person.

MikTouch is optimized stock... So updating it farther would take it a direction we wasn't going with it.
Bulletproof is even older. We don't have much here... But what's here is solid

First timer here as well (although long time computer user/programming familiar so I might have a better understanding of some things than you) and I was able to fully unlock, S-OFF, and load up a JB rom to my phone using the guide right on this site (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801106) and some help from some online friends that have done this kind of thing before. I found all links to be working, and pretty much all steps to be covered. The I guess hardest part was the permanent S-OFF using the wire trick. I had to burn an Ubuntu live cd and boot a laptop with it, but I was even able to get that step done. A little frustrating with the timing, I think it took me about 8 tries until it finally unlocked. The only thing I think I initially missed was wiping all 3 caches, so I did a dirty flash that got stuck on the boot screen. After I wiped and loaded again, no problems. If you'd like any additional help, I get pretty bored at work, so find me on aim or gchat, or just shoot me a PM here, I think I should get notified
Good luck, it's not as bad as I thought it would be
Also I haven't personally tried it, but feel free to peruse this thread as well: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1696373
Note you'll need to have already achieved HTCDev unlocked and be rooted to use this (covered in that first link)
Hope that helps!

I'm following the first guide you linked. So far it's working I just flashed CWmod on and I loaded it according to the instructions in the guide "After fastboot finishes, disconnect your MT4GS, go into bootloader, and go to “RECOVERY.” You should now be in ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.7. The first thing I would do in CWM Recovery is make a backup of your stock ROM for safe keeping. "
But I forgot to d/c my phone. It still loaded CWmod and I navigated to backup/restore and clicked it. Right now my phone has the clockwork logo in the middle but it didn't give me any prompts after selecting backup/restore. What's it doing? It's been doing this for like 5 minutes. Should I be worried that I forgot to d/c the cable and whatnot?
Thanks

The first thing I would do in CWM Recovery is make a backup of your stock ROM for safe keeping. "
But I forgot to d/c my phone. It still loaded CWmod and I navigated to backup/restore and clicked it. Right now my phone has the clockwork logo in the middle but it didn't give me any prompts after selecting backup/restore. What's it doing? It's been doing this for like 5 minutes. Should I be worried that I forgot to d/c the cable and whatnot?
Thanks

I wouldn't worry, and I'm not entirely sure what it's trying to do, perhaps the possibility of USB storage is throwing it off. At this point I'd say just try to disconnect it, pull the battery, and start back up into recovery, but without the USB attached this time. I imagine then you'll be fine and able to backup the stock image like they say for safe keeping.
One more dummy question (tech support for many years, always check the simple stuff first...) you do have SOME SD card in there right?

Yeah, 32gb =)
booted into recovery, clicked on bacup/restore...still just showing the logo in the middle.
(PS any mods out there listening, I'd love to have that 5 minute restriction removed =D )
Okay, so the select button changes from power to the scroll pad once in recovery...good to know.

Using CWM to flash Miktouch now. Hopefully it works... =D
Just remember, if you are "S-On" you're going to need to fastboot flash boot boot.img after your ROM is thru flashing or you will hang up at the boot animation.

K. First impressions:
When I restart the phone, the first thing it does is force stop Gmail and Youtube several times. Is this supposed to happen?
Also, I'm extremely impressed with the speed of the restart. It's at LEAST twice as fast as stock.
And, Genius button doesn't work even after installing the patch linked to on your website (universal.zip).

Thanks Weekends. I did that and it's installed, though I fastboot flash boot boot.img before I used CWM to flash the rom. Does that make a difference? Do you think doing it that way will fix the force close mentioned above?
If there's not a fix for the gmail/youtube force closes, is it possible to do bulletproof with s-on? Thoughts? I really want to stick as close to stock MT4GS but with as solid a system as possible.

Another noob question. How do I wipe all?
Also, when I use CWM to install Mikrom it atuo restarts and loads up. Then do I restart again and go fastboot the new kernal?
Thank you all for how much help you have given me.
At the end of the updater-script there must be a reboot command, but being this ROM is based of stock you may not need to flash the kernel anyway.
Best methods for wiping is one of bluex's superwipe scripts or with fastboot
fastboot erase system -w
But being you are s-on that command may fail.
But always do a wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik in recovery.
It also good practice to make a nandroid of current ROM before you flash anything

[Q] Stuck in ''entering recovery...'' htc one s

What's up everybody! This is my first post here and I am what you would call a noob!
First of all I got tired of the 4.2.2 jb upgrade never coming to my htc one s and decided to give cyanogenmod 10.1 a shot (my first attempt ever tampering with mobile software)!
So I have unlocked the bootloader on my phone following a guide. It now says ''unlocked''
After that, I have tried to flash the paul recovery.img from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583427 .
I have done it through adb with the command promt as it says on the article above!
The command promt apparently managed to do the job and it said ''finished'' as it should!
Then i rebooted the phone into recovery mode through the bootloader menu but it then stucks there doing nothing...I have left it for 5 minutes and it was still like that and i thought that the recovery wasn't succesful (i ve seen it going very fast at the clockworkmod menu at videos on youtube while mine was stuck). I then rebooted it by holding down the power button and it went to the sence screen normally.
Then i have tried the other recovery img described at the article...Same thing happened...Then the other one! Same thing again!
Every time i am trying to flash the recovery image the phone stucks in ''entering recovery...'' screen, doing nothing.
Am I doing something wrong?
Please help, it will be much appreciated! I really want to dig custom roms...I' m a total geek
Thanks in advance!!

To boot into recovery, Hold VolumeDown + Power.
Edit: maybe you've done that, but make sure that you choose the correct recovery version. that is, match the version of your phone S3/S4 with the recovery.
Specific recovery for specific phone.

plus spent all night trying to download the recovery.img from clockworkmod.com as well as other links and all I get is this LONG encrypted script page displayed, and not an actual FILE that prompts you to download. going crazy here!

The link works, i ve managed to do it but twrp is useless if you want to flash any roms...I have tried every known version of cm for htc one s and I can't flash any of them in my phone through the twrp recovery...Always fails for no apparent reason! If you want my advise, do not waste your time, cause it's almost certain that ig you flash any custom rom, you will loose the advantages of htc sense, including the camera performance and special effects and also the beautiful widgets...If anyone though knows how to flash a REALLY nice rom with twrp we will be glad to hear his/her suggestions!

sad part is I'm not going for anything fancy.. When I bought the phone (last week) it had version 4.1 on there and all I want to do is upgrade it to 4.2... and no it's NOT available through AT&T in anyways what's so ever.. hence the flash recovery chaos.
If no one response with a solid solution, then I'm just gonna let it be like you said.

By the way, TWRP recovery has been the most successful one with The One S.

Unified CM11 won't boot

So I've been waiting on a unified firmware before trying CM. Don't judge me. However, I can't get it to boot. CWM recovery works fine, wiping /data and /cache works fine, as does installing the zip.
I tried both nightlies, and both won't boot beyond the Moto 'BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED" warning. This is the Verizon RAZR HD.
Any thoughts?
same for me
I got the exact same behavior. I think todays nightly should be sorted out.

I finally got it worked out. I have a feeling my recovery image may have been corrupted. It installed fine, but you never know.
Either way, these are the files I used (for others to reference)

I have the same problem on unified from Feb21st. I'm afraid that when my battery goes, I'll have a soft-bricked phone because it won't charge.
When installing CM, one thing I did not do was formatting /system, because I couldn't find that option anywhere on CWM.
Does anyone know a way to fix this?

I thought I was the only one, I can confirm the problem still persists on 2/24 nightly, on today's one I haven't tried yet. Also, the format/system is under mounts & storage in the main menu of CWM. I did a clean install of the unified nightlies, that hasn't solved my problem, I'm really concerned of what could happen if my phone powers off and there is no way to past the "bootloader unlocked" screen.

While I certainly hope you guys can get back on your feet I would advise you to get the team black hat active USB connector. It allows your phone to boot and flash without battery.
eta: http://shop.teamblackhat.info/Factory-style-programming-cable-for-Motorola-FactCable.htm
I have no ties to these folks or this product, except for owning one. It has saved twice in 2 years. Don't need it much, but you'll be glad to have it when you need it.
It took me over 8 hours of on and off flashing before I got it right. I blamed it on my recovery, since the md5's of all the zips I downloaded were correct, even after copying them to the sd card via my laptop.
I would try this:
Find your original Motorola usb cable. I've seen a lot of posts over the years because of bad cables.
Make sure you have the right one, and re-flash CWM recovery. Check its md5 before flashing using the one from my earlier post.
Boot into CWM and format /data and /cache, and then find the option to format /system.
Flash the nighly from http://get.cm/?device=moto_msm8960
Flash the gapps package for CM11: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Google_Apps
Reboot
Even if you've done this already, just try it again. Like I said I spent all day getting frustrated, and almost gave up on it. I am not entirely sure it was my recovery, but I have nothing else to blame it on.
Good luck.

I just installed the last non-unified version and it's working as expected. I'll use this version for now, until the problem is fixed.
Are you using the official CWM? And which fastboot utility do you recommend? I know that the one that comes from SDK can cause issues with moto.

Congrats! Try doing the OTA updates to the unified builds. I've read that is successful. I used snapdragon specific fastboots I found online a while ago. However, I've never really seen it specified, so I assume the normal one that come with the SDK will work just fine.

The unified versions do not show up on the updater.
I tried to search another way to do the OTA, but had no luck. I tried installing the unified from the 24th over the non-unified (without wipes), but the charging problem came back.
Next step is to try flashing CWM over again and will go from that -- although I find hard to believe that the same CWM that works for one version is causing the other to bug out.
I've pushed and merged the fix for charge only mode: http://review.cyanogenmod.org/60302

I take it that stock rsd restore was successful for a boot to stock & the 1st boot to google login & getting to homesreen & etc? You are referring to failures after this 1st stock boot right?

Flashing back to stock results in a fully functional phone. When I boot into the custom recovery and format everything followed by the zips I just don't get it to boot at all.it just hangs at the unlocked boot loader warning.
