[Q] otg activation ? - General Questions and Answers

So I have an acer iconia a110 would I have to root for my device to support USB otg ? For things like USB flash drive or controller or keyboards via USB need help big time

I also tried nexus media apk with no success I tried it due to the similarities between the nexus 7 and Acer a110

Hi. If in hardware specification not write about otg support, that you can't activate this function used any software. This hardware chip function and without replacing it impossible.

[Q] Huawei Vitria Y301A2 otg host support?

Hi all,
I searched all over and could not find anything similar...hence a new thread. Being a novice, I have recently got a nice Metropcs locked Huawei Vitria. It seems a popular device with positive reviews among the prepaid community.
Has any owners out there happened to try its USB OTG host capabilities? Mine does not work and when I tested with apps (OTG status, OTG host diagnostics, otg troubleshooter) all say it does not have the usb host driver support.
When I checked the device I noticed under system/etc/permissions a xml, android.hardware.usb.host.xml is misisng. I tried to copy and paste one into the Permissions folder but failed, saying it is read only.
Despite it takes microsd, it is just disappointing to see such updated device is crippled with otg. :crying:
Anybody knows if it is just os disabled? Is hardware OTG supportable? Anyway or workaround to make it work? Would a root help?
Anyone?

[Completed] Help Required! Galaxy tab 2 10.1

Hello, I got a samsung galaxy tab 2. I am very new to rotting and all that, i rooted the tablet using this guide and it has worked
droidviews.com/root-samsung-galaxy-tab-2-10-1-wifi-gt-p5110-on-android-4-1-1-jelly-bean-firmware/
I am trying to accomplish two things with it:
One- Getting the OTG to work with it. It didnt work straight away with the adapter and I have had little luck finding a soloution. THe app USB OTG checker says I have the usb otg api, but when i plug in a usb drive it dosent recognise it. I think i may have to install a "Kernal" to fix this but i don'y know how to find one that is compatible and will work. (I am doing this for my mum so she can use a usb drive and i dont want to brick it)
Two- this is the main goal, to get ethernet connectivity on the tablet, i think the otg will have to be fixed first but i am not sure. I cant get it to work and apps that enable the ethernet connectivity like:
google.com/store/apps/details?id=xda.usbhost.test&hl=en
Require some kernal. I have su and busybox installed already.
I have a samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1 GT-P5110 with android version 4.1.1 and kernal version 3.0.31 - 523998
Thank you very much if you can help me
Hi
As far as I can see, OTG support is already present with your tablet.

The best way to check possibility of USB ethernet is to ask in Q/A section

Good day !

Why won't my generic USB gamepad work on my MK808B Plus?

I recently bought a MK808B Plus HDMI-stick. My version is the EC-MK808B with Realtek WIFI and Bluetooth. I have installed a custom 4.4.2 ROM (mediafire.com/download/jr1v2whtyamqicb/EC-MK808B_PLUS_SupeCeleron_1.4_ROM_RTL8723-EN.zip) but I can't for the life of me get a generic USB gamepad to work.
USB host is working, I can e.g connect keyboard, mouse and USB-storage stick.
The keylayout (Vendor_0079_Product_0011.kl) file for the specific controller I got from another HDMI-stick I have where the gamepad is working. I followed this guide to get it onto my device: fomori.org/blog/?p=1178
Am I missing something?

Is it possible? (OTG and device problem)

Is it possible to connect a mouse/keyboard/anything else using OTG cable to a device that isn't supported OTG cable... But, the device was rooted... Can i do something to make my device supported OTG cable to use mouse or keyboard? Please respond!!! I need answers!!!!

It depends, some devices have the hardware to support OTG but they don't have the software to support OTG. These devices can add the software to support OTG then they can use OTG.
But some device don't have the hardware to support OTG, these devices can't use OTG at all, no matter what is modified. They just don't have the necessary hardware so they can't use it.
Your device might have the hardware but doesn't have the software.
You can try the Stick Mount app by Chainfire in PlayStore, if your device has the hardware to support OTG then this app should allow OTG to work.
