[Q] OTA to 4.3 with OTA Rootkeeper worked but not really? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I have searched the forums and can't find anyone with this problem. (Although I am also having similar problems to others who took Verizon OTA to 4.3.)
I was rooted, using CWM/TWRP. I backed up my ROM, temporarily unrooted with OTA Rootkeeper, which actually worked. I got the OTA update to 4.3. Sadly, this was before word was out about all the problems. (The rootkeeper is what apparently worked because VZ pushed this update out several days ago and my prior rooted ROM would not accept the update.)
I initially got stuck on the yellow triangle "go to Verizon now" screen but managed to get past that. What is troubling me is this: When I open Super SU, I get the "binary needs to be updated. Continue?" I click "continue" but then it asks to update "normal" or "TWRP/CWM." If I click TWRP/CWM, my tries to boot into recovery but then just goes to the yellow triangle of death page again and I get stuck until I can trick past that screen again. If I click to update "normal" it tries to update but then I get "Installation failed!"
Anyone know the problem with updating the SU binary?
What is super weird, though, is that my Supermanager app is working just fine, even the root only functions such as superlauncher.
My App Quarantine application also works just fine and it is root only. But when I try to open Titanium Backup, it won't grant superuser permission. So, it seems my phone is still rooted but not really?
I also cannot boot into recovery either using hardware buttons or using ROM manager.
This is very frustrating for me.
Does anyone know how to figure out my rooted or not rooted issue?
Thanks for any help!

When you accepted the update, you're not supposed to do anything that has to do with CWM or TWRP. This is because the Knox bootloader has taken over.
Try rooting through the saferoot method and then use titanium backup again.
As for the binary, can't really answer that since I'm not on the Android 4.3 update (can't accept official updates because of my micro SIM card). Go to the official 4.3 discussion thread and then ask about this.
Here's a link to the thread.

Captivate no longer rooted after JH7 update

has anyone else found that there phone is no longer rooted after the AT&T JH7 update??? I noticed that the USB tether is no longer on the phone and went to use Barnacle Wifi Legacy and it told me that it only worked on a rooted phone. I checked BusyBox and indeed, the phone is no longer rooted. It looks like I have to start over. Has anyone seen any problems with re-rooting, lag fix or anything else after the update??

Samsung kies did the update for me when i plugged the phone into the computer. After it updated, it also broke my root and added all the att crapware again. I re rooted with no problems, and removed the bloatware. Phone is working great. I havnt really noticed any difference.

How did you do the update? I did it fine and root wasn't removed.

Has anyone updated with the Voodoo lagfix in place? I can always reflash the stock JF6 and then look for the update, but i am lazy.....
I updated through kies as well. Lost my root. used one click to root again and have had no issues.
I can't re-root! I want to re-root and install Unleash the Beast... I've downloaded it, renamed to update.zip... Put it in the internal SD, went into recovery and hit re-install packages and it no longer recognizes the update. I'm going nuts here trying to re-root... comes up... E:can't open /sdcard/update.zip (no such file or directory) Installation aborted ............... Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... Help here..
That's odd. I did the OTA update by going into the system menu and selecting check for updates (I never installed the Kies software). I got the failed update message but the version showed it was JH7 after the restart, I'm still rooted and the bloatware did not reappear.
Also I never changed from the stock rom, I just rooted to get rid of the bloat and be able to sideload. I suspect those that did flash a new rom may have replaced the bloatware when they re-flashed to stock?
Hope this is helpful info for someone.

Same exact thing happened to me; Still rooted; Also have the JH7 suffix. Very weird, but all in all there are no changes to my phone.
How do you tell if your phone is still rooted?
(Yeah, still new to Android.)
My phone would not update...50% only whether I do it or ATT sends me the Update...Wife updated fine but was not rooted because I could not get into recovery mode until the update....then rooted hes...I Odin mine back to stock was on the phone with ATT for 2 hours.....Getting new phone
Never mind I used mini k I e s and the install went fine on both phones
No issues anymore.

[Q] update 2.1.0-2.2.3 LOST ROOT??

I did the update just now and thought everything went well. This is my first time. Someone else put infused 2.1.0 on phone and everything that goes along with that. I followed the directions in beginning of post to manually do the update. Now all my root apps are telling me i'm not rooted. I rebooted, took battery out and back in. I have read entire Infused post and no one has had this issue? Before i started i went into ROM manager and made a back up first.
Not sure what to do now??
i APPOLOGIZE if i posted this originally in wrong place.
First all, are you sure you're running the Infused.v2.2.3?? Beacuse if you are, then you're rooted.
If not, then you can simply root your phone again.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using XDA App
Yes, under setting>about phone i was running 2.1.0 and now says the update worked and i am running 2.2.3 infused. I was rooted before update now all my root apps are being denied by SU. SU was in app drarer before update and all was well. SU still in app drawrer but now not working. I installed Root Checker from mkt and it does see SU 3.0 on phone but says i never got rooted or it was done wrong. I can get a log from that app if you will be able to make heads or tails of it. I tried to install busybox and it just fails causes it says i'm not rooted. so i'm confused...i uninstalled updates to SU, that didn't work...i have looked at all the SU settings and as far as i can tell i have it set right...
as far as rooting again?? I didn't do it the first time...someone did it for me..can someone give me a link for the best way to do that...and if i have to do that..can i just do it on top of what i have now and not lose anything? I read that rooting an infuse running GB is not or close to not possible? am i wrong? I hope so.

SuperSu binary update

I've tried everything. When I open up the app it says I have to update binary. Then it gives me two choices "normal" and "cmw". I have clicked both of those any neither work. I have reinstalled and everything. Do I even need apps like supersu?
I used the new towel root on my note 3

Updating ruined mine
I was in the same situation as you until today. I got kitkat on my SM-N900V, then used towelroot (which is amazing!). Then when I would open supersu it would ask 8 out of 10 times to update the binary. I tried normal and CRM/whatever and neither worked. Then, today, when I opened supersu, it said "Update successful, please restart" so I did. After the restart, when I went to open supersu, it would not open, and just freeze until I hit the home button, then everything would be slow and laggy. I restarted my phone, and then supersu would open, but would sit with the spinning loading wheel loading the root apps, and never load. I opened Titanium Backup and it froze on "checking root rights".
To make matters worse, I had just enabled pry-fi, which needs root to spoof the MAC. I was just trying it out, but after supersu updated the binary, pry-fi would freeze on asking for root. So this broke my wifi. Now I am on data only, and supersu doesn't work. Any root app freezes.
I would not recommend doing the binary update, it might have ruined my phone.
PS: I ran towelroot over and over, restarted, ran supersu (sits loading apps), ran towelroot, tried pry-fi, etc, ad-nauseum, nothing helps
I am considering another factory restore... Don't do the binary update, just keep trying supersu and one of these times it will let you in without asking for update.
try framaroot maybe?? if that is compatble with your device... and use superuser instead of SuperSU

[Q] Lollipop OTA downloaded, install failed, now it says I'm up to date?

Hello,
So I finally got the notification to download OTA Lollipop today, which I did. Problem is, when I went to install it, the phone restarted, an ERROR screen popped up. I restarted the phone, the update wasn't installed and now when I "Check for Updates" it says I'm up to date.
How can I install the update without side-loading it?

I had the exact same issue but it sounds like a good thing it didn't update from all the issues everyone keeps posting all over the net. Is your device rooted? OTA only works on completely stock devices I read somwhere.
I too ran into this problem. But before i returned my phone to stock i converted it to kali linux. At first i thought it was an encryption issue, so i restored my phone. I still received the error message.
To install kali linux i had to unlock the boot loader, then flash the software. I returned to stock by wiping, flashing stock, then locking the boot loader.
With Xposed not supporting 5.0 I am thinking of stating 4.4.4
I want to stay at 4.4.4. Can't get rid of the Update nag -- and I've tried everything.

I found my problem. My gps.conf file was edited by Faster GPS. I forgot to revert before the OTA and thus my error occurred. I hope this helps.
I'm still getting the same issue after supposed install:
I've had the OTA notification for a while but it won't install. It downloads and then when it does the reboot I see it trying to update then I get the 'Red Triangle'. It reboots again back to 4.4.4
Phone was rooted but still using the stock ROM so I did a factory restore, I'm still getting the same issue.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

D801-20G OTA Update from t-mobile..

I got this update a few days ago on my rooted Tmobile G2. Applying the update bricked my phone, as it was stuck in a recovery boot loop. Had to use this:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ge...ricked-lg-g2-stuck-twrp-no-download-mode.html
to get it unstuck. Also, I tried the LG Support Tool to pull the update, but it was trying to download a 1.7gig update. I cancelled it before the install process in the fear that it would bork my phone.
Has anyone gotten the update to install successfully on their phone? (rooted)
I got the update but didn't run it. I learned my lesson last time. I'd love to know what it brings and how to install it though.

I'm there but can't figure out how to type in terminal command, can you help me out with this? I'm stuck in the recovery boot loop.
*EDIT* nevermind I figured it out after a factory reset though UGH!
I also got the update notification. I deleted 213MB upgrade file in cashe. It was in the root of cashe folder not in /cashe/foa/. I still get the stupid upgrade notification. How can we kill it? I have Titanium backup but software MUC is not an option on our phones.
OK found how to turn it off. Long press the update, App Info pops up, uncheck show notifications. Clear cashe and then reboot.
You can use stomproot (brute force method) to root this OTA. towelroot won't work. Before applying OTA, make sure custom recovery is replaced with stock recovery. Otherwise you will end up in boot loop.

Can confirm this works...thanks...autorec still works as well
If I have not installed a custom recovery, but just rooted the phone with AutoRec, will it soft brick my phone? Since I don't have TWRP or CWM, I would have no way to enter adb shell. So, it sounds like if I soft brick it, I'd have to restore factory settings to get it to boot, right? Are there any significant improvements to the 20g versus the 20e? Thanks.
I got this this morning and installed it...no issues whatsoever. Not sure what its for, but I got it.
Im stock unrooted.
I ended up going with the LG support tool method and installed the update (1.7gigs)...not really sure what the changed though. Root was lost, but I used Stump Root to get it back and everything is normal again. If anyone has the list of changes, plz post

As long as you deleted the update you can safely press the install button...it may or may not actually power off...but if it doesn't just reboot after pressing and the notification will be gone...also to prevent it from downloading in the future you can dial 3845#*80X# and click wlan test then ota setting and click disable...you can re-enable by going through the same process and pressing enable...works for most variants
Mine tried to update: it rebooted, said it was installing while showing a progress bar and then it stopped and restarted. Nothing changed.
Does anyone know what this update is? Preliminary to the lollipop update?
Any idea why my nearly stock system didn't take the update. I am rooted with towel root and several apps disabled and frozen with Titanium.
Thanks
Gilon
you press and hold on the update in the notification bar and app info will popup.

Same here, just rooted, no custom recovery and went through the update process. Completed update, still on e not upgraded to g
Plugged into LG Mobile Support Tool and updated that way, ran STUMPROOT and bruteforced. Rebooted and had root ^_^ Updated SuperSU binaries and rebooted once more and ran AutoRec. Now time to update everything again and remove the bloat they put back on.
Also to find the dialer code to update touch software, knock on isn't working. :silly:

From what I saw on androidpolice it includes in-flight wifi stuff and some patches. Probably blocking some of the older rooting methods
Took the update last night, i was rooted with stock recovery but it went through just fine. Now when i try to root via StumpRoot it says my device is rooted before i even do anything. I don't have root access though.
Anyone else experience this problem? I've already tried a factory reset but still no-go.
this "update" seems absolutely useless. however, it could be nice to get a flashable radio from it.
