Please help stuck om bootloop - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok, so this is exactly what I did... I came home and seen I have a update for the camera. so I unroot with an adb toolkit and lock the bootloader. I then proceed to updated the system. all seems fine... then I unlocked bootloader again, and was going to re root. but the device never got past the boot screen. I waited a good 10 minutes. I can still get into fastboot and CWM. but I cant do a restore cause it says cant mount sd card. wtf do I do?! please help. and thanks in advance. edit... I also went back into fastboot and relocked the bootloader... I know its dumb but I was in a panic and had to try... still trying to boot up.

Ur only option now is to fastboot flash the factory image because of the locking of the boot.. if u unlock ur bootloder again its going to erase everything anyways.
How are u extracting the factory image??

Not sure... what are my options? After I updated I used the toolkit to unlock bootloader and then it tried starting up or maybe I hit start I dont remember now... am I screwed??

No ur not screwed... U downloaded the factory image already right...also if u have adb and fastboot on ur computer u don't need a toolkit...just backup ur stock setup and drag a copy of it onto ur computer

Yes. For 4.4

How did u extract it?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Xparent Red Tapatalk 2

1. Search on google for how to setup adb and fastboot correctly
2. Download stock rom from google.
3. Make sure you have unlocked bootloader. If your bl is locked type this in cmd: fastboot oem unlock
4. Extract the stock rom from google.
5. Duble click on flash-all.bat

Well im newish to this so excuse how ridiculous this is about to sound. I extracted it to the desktop, and then tried extracting it to the toolkit in an images folder. I know... you probably just face palmed

Delete the files u extracted...not the factory image you downloaded tho...after that make a folder on ur desktop named nexus 5...then extract the image into the nexus 5 folder only. Then pm me when that's done

When I do step 5 it says 'fastboot' is not recognized as an external or internal command.

Type fastboot devices
It should output ur serial number and say bootloader
Ur phone has to be at boot loader to run the flash all.bat

Yep, sort of. You install cwm via fastboot but then you root via cwm by flashing a zip that has the root files in it.
The best bet is to get fastboot set up now before doing anything. I know it may seem daunting but once it'a set up, it's done and once you've used it, you'll realise you were worrying about nothing

OK thanks. Just one tiny question that I need explaining. How do I install CWM through fastboot. Do I download the zip of cwm and boot into fastboot once I'm on 4.4.3 using the button sequence power - then install?
Do I need to install cwm if I don't want root? And in cwm do I just flash on top without clearing data and cache

So a couple of things to clarify.
Ultimately, cwm is an .img file (a bit like a cd image). If you have a flashable zip of a recovery, it will contain a recovery.img.
Other flashable zips that contain .img files are kernels (boot.img) and radio (radio.img) but most other flashable zips such as ROMs and mods do not use image files.
Fastboot is a command line tool that is used to flash image files outside of flashable zips. So if you have a flashable zip of cement you want to use, you must extract the recovery.img
Fastboot works in 2 halves. Half of it is built into the bootloader of your nexus so to use fastboot you must boot into the bootloader and connect via USB.
The other half is the command line tool which is a fastboot.exe that you put on you computer and access via cmd (command prompt).
To use fastboot once it's configured, it's quite easy, you just type "fastboot flash" followed by the partition you want to flash too and the name of the file you want to flash. Usually you will only flash system.img, boot.img, radio.img or recovery.img and each flash to the same named partition.
Example
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
One thing to remember though, is you either put these images in the same folder as fastboot.exe OR you type the full location when flashing for example
fastboot flash recovery c:\users\dec115e\desktop\recovery.img
Have a look in the 2 threads mentioned in my signature as they both should cover setting up fastboot.

It depends how you do it but if you're using an OTA file or flashing the system.img and boot.img you won't lose data.
Only flashing a userdata.img which overwrites the data partition will loose your data

Difference between XNPH22R and XNPH22Q?

so cyanogen website has the XNPH22Q zip file, however its not flashable with TWRP when I tired, but xda forum has XNPH22R which is flashable version. What's makes the difference? And how would I go about to flashing the original XNOH22Q ROM from official cyanogen website? Thanks in advance.

It's already for a couple of weeks 25R.

And it's specifically says cm-11.0-XNPH25R-bacon-signed-fastboot.zip, so should be pushed with fastboot.

You don't adb sideload a factory image file, its not a flashable zip to begin with. Doing so might brick your device

of course you do not sideload if you have factory image as xxx.img file, than you just flash.
But in case of OPO, we have xxx_fastboot.zip file (and it's not a flash-able in recovery from SD card file).
Please give your version, how to instal OPO's "factory_image.zip" into OPO
Yes, please can someone explain how to flash a factory image on the OPO.

Well if he currently doesn't have twrp installed he's going to have to flash twrp first, and the only way to do that if he isn't rooted already is by using fastboot or a Toolkit of some kind, its a very simple process just:

I do it all the time on many devices, so was curious why you mentioned it would boot stock recovery. Always boots twrp when I use it, but I have never tried it on M so was wondering if something changed.

Mate, let's clear this up:
EVEN if you don't have TWRP installed, and you do 'fastboot boot <twrp-2.x.x.x.img', the device WILL boot into TWRP, WITHOUT flashing.

Twrp still needs to be on the device in order to boot it, u don't necessarily need to flash it, but if twrp is not on the device, how can it boot twrp? I've never booted it without flashing it, so I may be wrong, but I don't see how u could boot an image that's not there lol

Twrp still needs to be on the device in order to boot it, u don't necessarily need to flash it, but if twrp is not on the device, how can it boot twrp? I've never booted it without flashing it, so I may be wrong, but I don't see how u could boot an image that's not there lol

What I'm saying is if twrp has never been on the device to begin with, fastboot can not boot an image that was never there, it can't be cached to memory if it was never in memory, the only way I could see to do this would be to do
fastboot flash recovery "twrp.img"
fastboot boot recovery "twrp.img"

It is booted via fastboot from you computer. I have done this a bunch of times on devices that have never and still don't have twrp. Download a recovery you have never used onto your pc and try.

Help with ROM Nexus 5 stock.....

Hey all.
Just switched phones and got a nexus 5 of a guy i know on the net here were im from.
The phones came rooted and the bootloader is unlocked already i taught yes nice one... But im kinda been weary about flashing a ROM. I Am on Android version 4.4.2 and anytime i try get a notification to dl 4.4.3 it downloads and then it says reboot and install but everytime when i reboot up come TWRP and 4.4.3 does not flash/install. Why is that? Its annoying because I want to get to a Android Marshmallow ROM thinking CM13 but i wanna be sure how i go about flashing ANYTHING safely... Iv made a backup in TWRP n now i realky need help on getting my nexus 5 to a marshmallow rom.
Can anyone help me out?
Cheers all... Nexus <3

Ota updates require a stock recovery, not twrp.
You can flash directly to the latest mm rom using fastboot.
So can i go directly from were i am at 4.4.2 str8 to 6.0 or is there 6.1 now not sure....? Do i need to update radios r anything like that , wish it was as easy as d old days ha when i was younger n could c better

If you want to get your N5 to the latest 6.01 Marshmallow, download one of the custom roms from the development section. The one I have been using is the xTraFactory rom ... it is excellent. You can also update your bootloader and radio to the latest ... there is a flashable zip available. Simply download both zips, boot into TWRP, clear cache, etc ... and then flash. Here's a link to the bootloader/radio update ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66337346&postcount=123
And a link to the rom ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...om-xtraslim-1-0-stock-odex-optimized-t2924150

Yes, if you download the latest factory image and do the flashall.bat it will update everything.
There are guides in the general section.
Flashall.bat?

You're already rooted with TWRP, so make it easy on yourself and just do what I said in the post above. It will give you the latest version of Android, which is 6.01 along with the latest bootloader and modem/radio.
K il try that thx mate.. But i still would like to learn new things u know? Whats CAF? How do I know what TWRP I have? Flashall.bat, What is that?? I know I can do as you said I just wanna get to cover all the bases.

You're welcome, let us know how it goes ...
To flash the latest stock ROM, put the phone into fastboot mode, load ADB drivers, run flash-all.bat from a command prompt.
If the phone will not boot and stays at the android boot animation, power off the phone, boot into fastboot mode, unzip the userdata.img from the factory ROM into the directory with fastboot.exe, type "fastboot flash userdata userdata.img", press enter. When writing the img is complete, use the volume and button to boot directly into recovery, wipe data/ factory reset, and reboot.
I use nothing but these Nexus drivers to flash N4 and N5 phones in fastboot mode: http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...nt/adb-fb-apx-driver-universal-naked-t2513339

I don't ever use stuff like that. Do have to say though, my current setup, with xTraFactory rom and updated bootloader/modem, had really enhanced my battery.
